Space Port: Surveying the Progress
Date of Scene: 24 February 2022
Location: Atlantic Ocean
Synopsis: Diana and Arthur discuss the future of the space port, and then the princess reveals her true colors.
Cast of Characters: Diana Prince, Arthur Curry

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana had asked Arthur to come with her aboard the Invisible Jet to do a pass over on the site for the starport plans that were set in stone a little while back. The project was put on hold during the latest global crisis, but with that settled, the project is under way.

The invisible Jet has the luxury of being quite visible on the outside, or inside, or neither, or both! Currently its visible on both spectrums though, and hovering around the perimeter of the oceanic site.

Diana stands inside of it, wearing her armor, and a blue cloak around her shoulders. She looks down at the screen in front of her that shows the construction progress.

"They are doing very well." She says to the man whom she invited here today with her.

Arthur Curry has posed:
"Yeah," Arthur says as he stands there beside the Themysciran princess, looking upon the project below. Details of the infrastructure could be seen, curious frames surrounding seemingly different parts of the build as multiple sites seem to emerge from the water, likely to be linked in later parts of the construction. An individual who is familiar with construction might well be able to pick out the differences in technique between the parts that are handled by surfacers and others that are being constructed by the Atlantean Engineers
"It's interesting to see the things progress. Making decent time. All things considered." What with the forced hiatus. Yet the Atlantean prince chewed on his lower lip for a moment. Not as well-armored as Diana, he wore more civilian gear. Black biker boots covered his feet and were in turn covered partially by some ripped blue jeans. His chest is covered by a red t-shirt that's hidden under a black hoodie. The hood is down for now, and he does have his hair pulled back and the brim of a baseball cap peeks out of the pocket of the sweat shirt. Assuredly if he donned both that cap and the pair of sunglasses hanging from his jeans pocket he would be /entirely/ incognito. But for now, merely Arthur.
"My friends at court haven't said anything about Namor's awareness of it. He might have forgotten about it entirely since word on the street is he's gotten infatuated with a visiting noble from somewhere."

Diana Prince has posed:
This last part has Diana's downcast eyes lighting up a bit, along with a smile that crosses her lips. She looks over, and up at Arthur then. "Is that so?" She asks, before looking back to the tablet. "I remember the first time I saw him, only a couple years ago. We stopped a cruise liner from being ... well ... savaged by a rather rough storm. Once we had things under relative control, he seemed to be... mostly interested in me. Clearly he has good taste." She then shoots another smile over to Arthur.

"Thank you though, for your help in all of this. We should make good progress, and have this whole... place, ready in short order. It is exciting. Especially with all of the hands coming together to see it through..."

Arthur Curry has posed:
Rubbing two fingers along the line of his jaw, Arthur nods along with the words offered by Diana, his golden eyes sliding sidelong toward her as he ponders what she says. Though the comment about Namor gets a smirk from him, "Well, no offense Diana. But can you blame him?"
He holds up a hand to perhaps hold off any immediate counter as he murmurs, "Just sayin', you tend to make an impression wherever you go. And most every red-blooded guy remembers the first time they met Wonder Gal." Her official title.
"But." A line drawn in the conversational sand. "I was thinking, when this place gets more prominent, we might want to shift some of our satellite coverage to focus on it and the surrounding environs. Just think if it becomes the place that... is the first point of contact or interaction for visitors, then it'll in essence be the face of our planet in a way. So... might draw some ire."
Then he makes a face, "Though you and Bats have prolly already figured all that stuff out."

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana just smiles brightly at his ego-inflating compliment for her. "Well thank you..." She says quietly, as its not really something she likes to linger on in conversations, that being her effect on people. She looks up from the tablet computer then toward the see-through bulkhead of the Jet's interior, the waves of the ocean calm this afternoon.

"You are right, too, of course. But, I should hope that a number of the world's finest will be station here to help safeguard it. Possibly even with visits from my mother." She glances over at him then. "I would love to see her meet more of you. She needs to get herself ... out and about more." The Princess says, like any daughter might speak of their normal mothers...

"But, I want Earth to have a thriving starship base. I want us to ... get truly familiar with the planetary bodies in our own solar system. We need science outposts on every planet, moon, and otherwise. IT is time to make the Sol System a true growing space faring society...."

Why has she gotten this itch? Probably due to all the space issues in the past 5 or so years...

Arthur Curry has posed:
Shifting to the side to lean against an area he considers... likely safe and clear of hopefully control panels and surfaces, he settles back so he can look at Diana more directly while occasionally glancing down toward the construction. "It might need to become another rotating shift thing, though we might want to get more formal about designating it."
He looks down at the port below, quirking an eyebrow. "And I say this as one of the perhaps largest offenders when it comes to it, but right now we do take monitor duty semi-lightly at times. Though think we have a good honor system. But some of our folks are..."
A pause as he scrunches up one eye then murmurs, "Are more... informal? On things? Than even me." Booster Gold.
"So mebbe connect with other folks too and see if we can share the duties."
Then he considers her for a time and murmurs, "This really has gotten under your skin lately though, huh?"

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana remains where she is as he gets a little more comfortable in the moment. They are standing in the lounge area of the Jet's interior though, so there is a number of white hued pieces of comfortable furniture all around them, they-to partially transparent as the opacity level of the Jet is at about 35% currently.

"Mm?" She asks, looking up from the tablet. "Oh." She gets his meaning then, her eyes going back out to the water. "I... feel like space is the oceans, and Mankind needs to break free of its homeland, and truly begin to set sail upon the stars. Right now, we are capable, there is nothing holding us back but our own ambitions. There are a number of countries pursuing spaceflight programs, businesses, and so on... but we can do so much more if we unite."

She smiles over at him then. "And yes. I plan to have the Avengers hold a presence here, possibly even the X-Men too, if they are interested.... Which. I can be very persuasive...."

Arthur Curry has posed:
"Yeah, unity can be a good thing, people all pulling in the same direction." Arthur scritches his chin thoughtfully then his lip twists up, "Though I'm a big fan of having the freedom to say, 'You all are crazy, I'm gonna go sit in my lighthouse.'"
Which may or may not be an actual quote.
"But," He says perhaps to hold off a counter argument. "I think enough people are inclined and heading in that direction there shouldn't be too much of a problem to get people to advocate this..." His eyes drift down to the construction, one hand lifting to rub at the back of his neck as he considers, "If nothing else people have seen we need to unite our efforts in the need for proper defense. Considering..." He shakes his head as he looks up toward the sky beyond the semi-transparent surface of the jet, nose crinkling a little as he refuses to name the craziness that has been inflicted on them.
"This though," He motions with a nod, "Will be a good step forward."

Diana Prince has posed:
"We need a space faring defense force too." Diana says next as she glances over at him once more. The tablet computer is lowered down in front of her lap, as her hands hold on to its edge. She stares outside at the sea, and the signs of the starport coming together. "WE need scouts. Scout ships. Crews. Captains.... We need warnings about threats that are coming to this star system, before they arrive at our doorsteps."

She looks back at him, and smiles softly, warmly even. "This will make it so when we're all at our 'lighthouses' that we know we are that much more safe. I hope, at least." She then purses her lips and draws in a breath as she looks back outside.

"And how are things with you, on a personal level?" She asks him then. "Are things well? You have been distant of late."

Arthur Curry has posed:
"I have?" Arthur takes up that comment so advanced, though he nodded along a bit with what she was saying about the need for defense and scout ships. And captains. That could be a fun career, though his attention returned to her when she asked him directly.
A smile slipped onto his features, "I've been tilting at a personal windmill lately. Had this..." Arthur shakes his head and his eyes unfocus somewhere beyond Diana's shoulder before they return to her, one hand lifts to gesture aside, "Encounter a few years ago with an old creature from the depths. Gave me some nightmares, but it has this sort of, method of operation. And lately I feel like I've been seeing that method of operation in various places I wander through now and again. Feels like..."
Arthur folds his arms over his broad chest, taking a deep breath as he realizes he's not explaining himself well. "Feels like I'm chasing after ghosts, and I see its shadow in a lot of things that might or might not be related. So that's been my personal Waterloo of late. Or Moby Dick."
Then he tilts his head, "Had some friends from New Zealand visit, that was a good time." He adds that as if making a list of what has happened with him.
"Oh!" As if remembering, then he scrunches up an eye as he looks at her. "Also, Dinah and I been getting along pretty well." He even worked a bit at her florist shop.

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana turns to face him fully now as she leans over against the curved bulkhead to her right against her shoulder. She tilts her head at how he describes these things, but the last bit he says has her grinning more openly. "Oh really?" She asks, playful side of her showing through like he's assuredly seen before.

"Dinah is a good person, from what I have had the fortune of seeing from her." She responds, taking a light breath then as her eyes dart to the right to look back through the bulkhead, before going back to Arthur.

"But if you feel you need direction beyond what you have... Captain Arthur of Space Ship One might be your new calling, hmm?" She teases him.

Arthur Curry has posed:
"Captain Curry?" Arthur says wrinkling his nose, "Alliteration though, so cheesy." Though his smile is wry as he says that. Still with arms folded over his chest he shifts his weight to the other boot, making a face. "Lord Arthur, no wait King Arthur? Too cliche." Which has his smirk shift a little sour as well, King Arthur is a true possibility for him.
Despite his attempts to avoid it.
"But yeah," His nose crinkles again though more self-deprecatingly. "Our monitor duties sorta overlapped for a time, and we started talking in the time between shifts. Ended up hanging out and next thing I know I'm selling flowers out of her shop."
Shaking his head he smiles a little, "She's got a good heart, but she has her demons. We all do though I suppose."

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana's eyes go back to Arthur as he responds further, her lipse pursed together again in one of those expressions that she only does when in a casual setting like this. She then spreads them in a wide, happy, smile at what he says. Her head shakes side to side softly. "You will be King, when I am Queen. Do not fret on it, Captain Arthur." She teases him further, not really being serious, as she knows it weighs on him far more than the thought of becoming Queen weighs on her. She doesn't truly believe her mother will ever succumb to an untimely demise.

The bit further about Dinah, has Diana smiling more warmly again toward him. "Indeed we do." She says as she starts to walk past him on her way back toward the control cabin of the Jet. "Well. I do not. But I hear others generally do." Now she's just being silly.

"Come on. I will fly you back to your lighthouse. I may even take you to Burger King first." She says, motioning to the top of her head. "I will get you one of those cardboard crowns...." She says, now just grinning from ear to ear.

Arthur Curry has posed:
"See," Arthur says as he walks after Diana, arms unfolding as he raises a hand to point at her. "You have everyone else fooled, but I'm onto you. I see this casual meanness you got going on. Some day everyone will see the true Wicked Diana."
Though his smirk is wry as he advances after her, shaking his head as he mutters, "Cardboard crown. Whatever."
