Falling Guardian
Date of Scene: 25 February 2022
Location: Near Earth space, and a Pennsylvania rutabaga field
Synopsis: The Milano is introduced to the gunship-owning father of Peter Quill's former date. Captain Marvel brings the ship in for a gentler landing than would have resulted otherwise, and Pietro, Daisy and Jemma check on the ship and her captain.
Cast of Characters: Peter Quill, Carol Danvers, Daisy Johnson, Pietro Maximoff, Jemma Simmons

Peter Quill has posed:
"THIS IS WHY WE DON'T SPLIT UP!"

Peter Quill, AKA Star-Lord, cursed while he maneuvered the Milano at faster-than-light speeds. Of course, he gets hailed by the pursuing vessel. "Peter Quill, you have tarnished my daughter's purity and I claim the right of a father to wipe clean her honor!"

"Your daughter didn't seem to mind her purity when she was with me, Vorkax, but tell her I said hi...and uh, tell Velena I said hi."

"You imbec-"

Peter cuts the holovid as he continues to fly. "Pete, you are a charming devil, but you should really stop sleeping with daughters and wives of mean mofos." A blast hits his right wing, and warning signs start flashing across the Milano's hud. "Flarking scut!" Star-Lord swears as he's forced to drop out of hyperspace and enters a direct, off-center flight deep into the Sol system.

He shuts off the damaged engine, causing him to 'drift' in space and sharply turn through space dust. He pulls the trigger on the Milano's heavy cannons, blasting five holes into the Sakaaran's ship and causing it to start descending towards Mars. Meantime, Peter is headed for Earth.

He raises the coms and starts sending out an S.O.S

"This is Star-Lord of the Milano, could use some serious help! I look like I'm gonna land in Pennsylvania. Damn shame it isn't Philadelphia, always wanted to visit there-shit, doesn't matter. Could use a hand!"

Carol Danvers has posed:
Carol Danvers is sitting in the Avenger's Assembly Room with her feet up on a console and a cup of coffee in hand. "Yeah, Sara brings this stuff in. I like what the staff keep stocked, but this has a nice bit of extra kick to it," she's saying to Pietro about the brew that she takes a sip of and sighs.

The blond Avenger drew monitoring duty today. Everyone on the team takes the turn at the task so there's always a human in the decision-making loop. Though JARVIS handles most of the actual monitoring.

Which is why he - it? - is the first to receive the distress call when it is relayed by SWORD. "Major Danvers. We are receiving a distress signal, relayed through The Peak for you specifically."

Carol sits up, and sets her cup of coffee down. "Let's hear it," she says. The audio comes on, while a holographic display on the large table comes up, showing the Earth, a dot that represents The Peak, almost on the other side of the planet right now, and a dot showing the origins of the distress signal. A graphic comes up, showing the vessel's path, ending just inside the Pennsylvania border.

The audio comes over the speaker: "This is Sta-" a voice says before being cut off by static. "...serious help! I look- *static* ... shame it *static* ... "use a hand!"

JARVIS' pleasingly deep tones cut back in, "The originating vessel will impact in approximately seven minutes."

Carol hits a button that opens up a shaft up to the surface from the sublevel they are in. "Pietro, I'm going to go try to catch them before they hit. Want to come back me up in case they aren't friendly?" she asks. Her body begins to glow with cosmic energy, which is often the case when she's going to kick in the afterburners. She then flies into the tunnel, jetting up into the sky above New York, turning to head towards Pennsylvania.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Pennsylvania? Who the heck even goes there? Daisy and Company that's who when they are on a SHIELD mission. It's a mission that's pretty much done with by ways of establishing surveillance on a Hydra cell. Oh right, apparently some Hydra also choose that place to live in. But more importantly than anything else is that Daisy FINALLY got to pilot the quinjet.

"Really, of all places why do they choose Pennsylvania?" she is asking her partner in 'crime' Jemma Simmons, glancing over to the co-pilot seat. "I mean it's so out of--" she stops when comms pick up on an incoming communication. "Hold up, catching something on the emergency frequencies..." she frowns and flips on a switch to get it on speaker. Crackles and then the same distorted audio. A name, needing help. She looks at Jemma. "Guess we aren't Pennsylvania free yet, Poppins." she winks at the other woman and then grins in anticipation.

"I *have* been wanting to see how fast this thing goes..." She places her hand on the speeding lever and then ....

"Ludicrous speed..., engaged." What a nerd.

Pietro Maximoff has posed:
Backup? She needs backup!? Pietro scoffs internally - she's fully capable of handling just about anything! Still, it means getting out of the compound and running, to boot. A nod and a response over comms. "I'll meet you there. Send coordinates." Quicksilver responds, giving a little un-needed stretch.

Then he's off like a shot, tearing through the compound in mere seconds - bursting out onto the open road. There's very little that pleases him more than speeding through the land, scenery blurring by as he races towards a destination. The only issue is, there always has to be a stopping point...

Jemma Simmons has posed:
"Well, given the remote nature of the site, it does provide a modicum of security." Leave it to Jemma to actually explain the reasoning...ad nauseum. "Honestly, would you suspect an international terrorist organization so close to Amish country?" Yes...Jemma has a point there.

But then, the emergency frequencies. A frown clouds Jemma's features as she listens to the broadcast. "If I am not mistaken, it sounds like a vessel entering Earth's atmosphere." She listens some more...not to the words...but to the static. "Yes...ionosphere interference. It is some sort of spaceship." How can Jemma tell that? Well, genius intellect for one. And quick deduction. After all, it is crashing to Pennsylvania...and the two SHIELD agents didn't detect anything leaving there.

Besides them, at least.

As Daisy gooses the throttle, Jemma adds, as an aside. "Try not to have us go to plaid."

Yes, Jemma caught the reference. Takes a nerd to recognize a nerd.

Peter Quill has posed:
The Milano bursts into flame as it breaches Earth's atmosphere. The shielding quickly adapts to protect the cockpit and it's contents, though it clearly starts to spat out as systems power becomes irregular. "FINE! I admit it, I could really use Rocket Rac-Flarkin'-coon right now. Come on, Quill, Yondu would -kill- you right now."

Pause.

"Actually, I can do without thinking about Yondu right now. You know what I need? I need jams." So he puts on Footloose.

"Cut loose, footloose. Kick off your sunday shoes, YEAH!" Peter jams out as he tries to angle the ship to a bit more of an even horizontal angle where he applies the afterburners. "Come on baby...come on...come on, don't fail me now." He flips a few switches.

"I swear, Guardians, I'm going to rip you a new one when I see you guys again. I'll just take all the pay as payback, yeah..that sounds about right." About three minutes till impact. "Don'thitabuildingdon'thitabuildingdon'thitabuilding!"

Carol Danvers has posed:
The spacecraft plummets out of the sky, the friction with the atmosphere on its entry sending those wicked flames all around the vessel. Another shining object zooms through the air on an intercept course. Thankfully not a missile. As it draws close, Peter can start to see it's a human-shaped form. At some point he might even recognize the red and blue uniform and the blond hair.

Carol gasps as she recognizes the Milano. She alters her course into a swerving arc, going around it and then coming in from below and behind the stricken craft. She gets beneath it, arms spread as she begins to support its weight. The descent slows gradually enough that if the inertial dampeners are offline she isn't breaking the spine of anyone on board.

Woman and spaceship descend at a more modest rate, though anyone looking that way will have no problem spotting them thanks to the glow around her, and the heat of reentry until she's slowed them enough. Carol aiming for a large rural area, mostly farmer's fields with a few stands of trees here and there. She reaches the ground settles the craft on its landing struts in the rutabaga field.

After she walks around to the front of the Milano where she can be seen outside of the cockpit. She leans against the hull and looks inside. "I need to see some license and registration, please," she announces loudly.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
A brow arches as Jemma goes all smart and intelligent and deducts what's happening just from the static. "See, this is why I love having you on my team." this said while they engage 'ludicrous' speed. Which mostly is she just dunking down on that accel lever and the jet starting to zip through as they begin their approach. Or well....

"Mmm, think you can triangulate where it will fall?" Daisy asks the smartest person in the quinnjet right now. Looking at the monitors she taps on it, bringing up SHIELD satellites as they identify the falling space ship, "Nothing like some thinking on the fly eh..?" which is when the comms start picking up on Footloose. Along with static. Daisy quirks a brow, "You even get a little soundtrack to help you calculate it, Jemms."

"You got your seatbelt on, right?" See? More references to a certain movie.

"Wait, is it just me or did the spacecraft got into a real weird trajectory now?" She peeking at the monitor and opening shield comms. "This is Special Agent Daisy Johnson, we are approaching fallen space ship."

Pietro Maximoff has posed:
She did have to adjust and stop the spacecraft, then lower it to the ground. By the time the Milano is safely on terra firma, Pietro is skidding to a stop in the fields. "Is this another Shi'ar attack?" The man asks, zipping around to do a full circuit of the nicely cooked spaceship. Seeing no obviously aimed weapons, he relaxes - just a touch. He comes to rest right next to Carol, looking at the woman.

"You seem less than concerned. I take it this is something that shouldn't be a problem?" He wonders, giving a quick staccato series of raps on the hull. Hopefully nothing falls off!

Jemma Simmons has posed:
As Daisy asks if Jemma can triangulate, there is no response. However, there is the familiar tap-tap-tapping of fingertips to a small screen. And yes, Jemma is doing the calculations. Because of course she would be. Using that wrist-mounted computer that Jemma acquired for her unique needs, the fingertips flutter on the screen.

That is, until the dulcet tones of Kenny Loggins cuts in through the comms. Confusion sets in, then is quickly chased away as Jemma shakes her head clear to finish. "Well, that would confirm that at least someone is familiar with the filmography of one Kevin Bacon. Meaning that someone there is originally from Earth." Because Jemma doubts, as good Kevin Bacon is, that his movies are intergalactically famous. At least the open comms helps to track the ship...which definitely takes a more controlled descent.

Barely.

The movie quip is not returned. At least, not yet. The fact that there is a crashed spaceship playing 'Footloose' on the comms might be the reason Jemma is distracted.

Peter Quill has posed:
"Almost there, almost there...okay, relax body."

Peter tries to psych himself up for what will no doubt be a horrible landing. He taps at the side of his head, where a light construct starts to form around his head until it solidifies into his helmet. He braces for the impact, patting the metal of the Milano as if he's saying goodbye to the old girl....that is, until he feels a sudden shift in the ship's pressure. He landed on something, or rather, something caught him.

He feels that sense of weightlessness for a moment as the fall slows to a steady descent. He helps Carol out by activating the landing gears. The Milano is safe!

Minus a missing engine.

When Pete sees what's out there, Star-Lord takes a deep exasperated sigh. "Scut, I hope she's not being serious. I was dealing with Xandar a week ago..." He groans, opening the airlock, where it seems multiple gears on the ship extend outwards almost circularly until it forms the flat of the ramp and it settles onto the ground with a hiss. Some smoke exits the Milano.

Following the smoke is the man himself: Star-Lord. He wore a long leather red trenchcoat with a Ravager badge on the shoulder, a gray shirt that says 'Knight Rider' on the front, and a pair of brown pants with accompanying boots. He has his quad-blasters on his hips, though he makes no movement to pull them out.

"Well arn't you a sight for sore eyes. I promise, there's no class-three biohazards on-board the Milano. Just uh...had a debate with a dad over a date, nothing really." The wing with the damaged engine fully falls off. "That was already broke."

Carol Danvers has posed:
Carol Danvers grins over to Pietro as he arrives as the craft is touched down. Before she answers him though, she hears Agent Johnson over the comms and replies. <<Hello Daisy. Carol here. I'm familiar with this particular group. Got them on the ground safely, come on in.>>

She turns back to Pietro then. "Yeah, I know these guys," she tells Pietro. "SWORD helped them out dealing with... ah, a guy with a grimace chin and... it's a really long story. They are a mostly ok bunch. There's a tree, and a raccoon. And green lady who will stab you if you get too fresh. And a green guy who... will just stab you. And then there is-"

At which point Peter Quill emerges. "Quill. Good to see you again," she says. "Though looks like you've gone a bit hard on the ship. You know they have dating apps on Earth, you can just swipe left and right instead of shooting," she suggests to him.

Daisy Johnson has posed:

With the triangulation done, along with the constant 'beep' now telling the duo aboard the quinnjet that the spaceship has indeed landed, it doesn't really take them long to get there, the loud sound of the jet approaching being heard. It circles the area for a bit as if assessing danger before there's that incoming comms from Carol. <<Well, at least they have some taste in music>> is the comment sent back.

"Alright, going to get us down there?" A grin then to Jemms and she snaps her fingers as if to get her partner out of whatever distraction is eating at her. "So, on a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate your driver?" a smirk on her expression.

The jet lands next to the spaceship and soon enough the hangar doors open. "Come on, Jemms. Let's greet them." she makes her way out of those hangar doors, dressed in the black and blue that's her traditional shield outfit, the ICER on a holster. She waves at the gathered group and approaches, "Hello there."

Pietro Maximoff has posed:
Quicksilver scowls a bit at the mention of description of the gang of misfits. Yep. Misfits! Snotty Mutant that he is, clearly he's not the problem! As the wing falls away, Pietro has zipped to the other side of Carol, long before it hits the ground. "Clearly. Already broken." He arches a brow at the appearance of the alien. He's so... human-like! The man is scrutinized, measured mentally by the speedster. He has time, after all.

A glance to Carol then, canting his head to the side. "Mostly ok, hrm? No need for alarms at the moment, then?" He assumes, before his eyes go to the arriving quinjet. More backup, apparently. There's a nod to Daisy as she makes her way out of the jet, as well as Jemma, should she follow suit.

Jemma Simmons has posed:
The snap has the desired effect. It gets Jemma back out from her head to the present. "Oh, sorry." The rating commentary is greeted with a smirk. "10, of course. Because I don't want to walk back to the Trisk from here." A flutter of a wink and a chuckle. Jemma is coming with the jokes.

Of course Jemma is going to come out with Daisy. She is clad in a similar SHIELD outfit as Daisy, only mostly black. Standard SHIELD issue uniform. Nothing fancy here. Well, except the wrist-mounted computer. Her own ICER sits in a holster for easy access. No labcoat or warm cardigans. This is certainly Senior Agent Simmons attire, rather than her typical scientific role.

"Someone here certainly knows how to make an entrance." The British tones are warm and inviting.

Peter Quill has posed:
It's really, really, REALLY hard not to notice Pietro Maximoff. "Woah there, Speedy Gonzales, watch the evil eyes." Pete feels like he's being skinned under the scrutinizing gaze, but Carol makes him wince a little bit. "Star-Lord, man." Just ONCE let someone greet him as Star-Lord. Please? Pretty please? "Ah, the Milano? She's been through worse. YOu should've seen her go on Trima-XIII, went through SO much worse than that little scratch."

THe wing is currently not attatched to the ship, Peter.

"Tubular, but uh, I'm kinda in-between jobs at the moment and in case you haven't noticed, I don't really have a cell phone. Milano's apps don't do Terran apps too well." It can do most of them, but some of them are just weird. "In my defense, her dad flipped out. But I guess I shouldn't have danced too close."

Yikes.

Jemma and Daisy arrive, and he gives them a two-finger salute. "Star-Lord, legendary Outlaw." Peter gives Carol a -look- that screams 'don't undermine me'. "Was -not- expecting a party."

Carol Danvers has posed:
Carol Danvers turns as the Quinjet lands and the familiar faces of Daisy Johnson and Jemma Simmons emerge. "Ladies," she greets them warmly. She turns back to Peter to say, in a just barely emphasized tone, "Star-Lord... these are Agent Simmons and Agent Johnson of SHIELD. And this is Pietro Maximoff, one of my fellow Avengers," she says, motioning to the Maximoff twin.

Captain Marvel crosses her arms then as she turns back to Peter Quill. "So was there something bringing you to Earth, or was this just the closest place you could crash land into. Before you got hauled back with a shotgun to get hitched?" she asks, whether or not Peter gets the reference. "I'm part of a group called SWORD, responsible for handling extraterrestrial visitors. Who are probably going to want to talk to you further about your visit here," she tells him.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
The presence of Pietro is something that Daisy wasn't expecting, it showing in how she cants her head to the side and blinks once. "Avengers business?" she asks before nodding her way to greet both Carol and Pietro and smiling faintly at them. It's when Peter introduces himself and that makes her quirk a brow. "Legendary Outlaw?" she hooks her thumbs on her belt in her best 'sheriff' impersonation and smirks. "Should we get you into a cell preemptively so there isn't too much outlawing going around here?" a beat, "I kid, I kid.."

And then she states the obvious, "You are missing a wing over there, Starlord." then a glance to Jemma, "Doesn't seem like that ship is going anywhere anytime soon.."

A look to Carol and then she adds, "Can probably help you get the ship out of ..." and she looks around, ".... Pennsylvania. Of all places." she rolls her eyes briefly.

Pietro Maximoff has posed:
"Apparently we are Triple A for this Quill, who is on the run from this StarLord outlaw." Pietro comments to Daisy, a very sly smirk on his face. Yeah, he heard the corrections and the banter - but he cannot help himself. He's trying humor, trying to soften the edge that comes from his personality.

As he's introduced, he does a nod of his head and a mock salute. "Hopefully there are materials on Earth that can repair this... ship?" He asks - even as he gives the Milano side-eye. Ship.

Jemma Simmons has posed:
Legendary Outlaw, hmm?

It is a shame that Jemma didn't seem all that impressed by the title. Then again, there is a ship just...sitting there in front of her. A ship that is missing a wing and seemingly an engine. That certainly has her attention. "Oh...Fitz would flip if he saw this..." Then a glance back to Daisy. "I am not an engineer. certainly not to Fitz's level. Buy, yes...without an engine and a wing, I concur that this is not going anywhere for a while."

Jemma is a doctor, not a mechanic. Though, she is also looking over the vessel with a rather intent gaze. Just imagine all the scientific things she could gleen from it! Oh, but she is not here for that.

A shift to agent mode. "Did you want SHIELD to deal with this minor detail, Agent Danvers?" Yes, because Jemma is gonna be proper about things.

Carol Danvers has posed:
Before Carol Danvers can answer, a soft chime sounds and she hits a button on the arm of her suit that puts her comms over a speaker. JARVIS tells her, <<Captain Marvel, there is a large piece of debris entering the atmosphere, on a collision course for a suburb of Las Vegas. I believe it is associated with the spacecraft you are already dealing with.>>

She looks over to Peter Quill. "Guessing that's the engine. I'd better go play 'fetch' before some blackjack dealer on the night shift gets woken up abruptly by it crashing through his roof," she says. "Jemma, thank you, if you two can take it from here. Nothing particularly Avenger about the matter, just Pietro was kind enough to come as back up," she says.

She gives everyone a wave and then darts off into the sky. There's a loud crack of sound once she's high enough up the sonic boom won't damage anything on the ground as Captain Marvel zips off to the west.

Peter Quill has posed:
"Same thing, man." Peter tells Pietro with a slump of his shoulders. Though he jerks a thumb at the Milano. "That there's the Milano. Fastest ship in the galaxy, my baby can outrun anything." Daisy's relentless assault by teasing makes Peter look a little bit more on the nervous side as he gulps. "I'm still the fastest draw too, watch out lawlady." Peter points at her and looks like he might try and run, until jokes are established, and visible relaxation from internal screaming occurs.

"Ah, it's just a scratch. I can fix it up, but...well, the guy I would normally see is pretty busy right now. Best raccoon-engineer in the biz." he shrugs. "Kinda had to land here. Was the quickest way I could dodge the dad of the year."

Jemma gets a frown. The Milano really isn't going anywhere anytime soon. "Well...lets just find some materials." Though he points at all of them. "Hey, hey, don't rat me to secret society. The Kree have it bad enough breathing down my neck, don't need Terrans doin' it too."

Captain Marvel is off to do Captain Marvel things. "DON'T BREAK MY WING!" Peter calls out to her as he puts his hands on his hips. "Welp, looks like I'm crashing here for a minute - pun intended. So uh...yeah. I'll just uh, exist. You guys wouldn't happen to have a Quarnax Battery on this rock would ya?"

Pietro Maximoff has posed:
With the bolt of light departing, Pietro looks over to the others. "I suppose you might find some rather advanced engineers down here, on Earth." The man offers over. "Tony Stark, Reed Richards... they might be able to help out with the repair of your spacecraft." See? He's helping! "Perhaps, though, you might try calling your friend. Long-distance." He shrugs.

"I'll leave you to the capable hands of these SHIELD agents - they should be able to get you going in the right direction. Nice meeting you." He comments, before offering a wave. And then the speedster is in motion - bolting in the direction that Carol flew off to.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Fastest draw? That has Daisy adjust her holster again, a brow arching just so. But then she quirks the side of her lips in a smirk, "Don't worry, no one is going to prison. Besides, Captain Marvel does vouch for you so ..." she lifts her shoulders and just when she is turning to look at Carol there she goes flying off, "Well, there she goes.." she then takes a more assessing look at the ship.

Just a scratch?!

"Look, I am not sure where you are coming from but whatever you may want to call this thing .., tis no flesh wound.." a shake of her head given and then a sigh. "We can give you a lift back to SHIELD and you can talk with some of the engineers there about getting the ship back to snuff. Fitz and Jemma Simmons here might be some of the best to help." she explains before blinking once. "You have had contact with the Kree?" that makes Daisy looks rather interested. "We will be needing to talk soon then. Once we are back."

She then laughs softly when Pietro speaks of those names, "Tony Stark, of course. Sometimes I forget you have your share of geniuses in the Avengers." she tells the speedster, "Want a ride back too or....." there he goes...

"These Avengers are really running all over the place, eh?"

Peter Quill has posed:
"Good. I've broken out of several." Peter fingerguns at Daisy, even adding a 'pow' at the end as if to fire it. "Carol and I go way back. She's helped out on some of the galactic adventures I've been on. Honorary member of the Guardians." Pete gives a thumbs up then. Though he looks at his ship and he frowns. "That'd be good. Just uh, make sure no scavengers start trying to tear apart my ship. The Milano's my baby. I gotta get it pieced back together so I can find my friends."

But now he's stuck on Earth. Great. Back on the planet his mother died on and he had very little desire to ever see again. When Pietro zooms off as he does, Peter actually exclaims. "What the hell?! Geez, talk about 5 second warnings, right? He was there and then he -wasn't-. He'd be a great delivery guy."

He nods though. "Yeah, I'll take a ride back. Dibs on flying!" and he starts walking towards the Quinjet without another word.
