Bat Cave A Palooza
Date of Scene: 06 March 2022
Location: Batcave
Synopsis: Charlie meets Julia in the batcave. Discussions of equipment and training ensue with a drop in visit from Cass. Cass in a round about way leaves some wisdom with Charlie that will help her with her current melting bat-a-rang problems.
Cast of Characters: Julia Pennyworth, Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe, Cassandra Cain

Julia Pennyworth has posed:
It wasn't the first time Julia had been in the batcave, but it was the first time since her stint back overseas. There were many new faces in the manor she'd yet to meet. That didn't stop her from wanting to keep in shape herself though and she knew the best gym in the mansion wasn't in the gym: It was in the cave.

Wearing a tank top and jogging pants as well as sneakers, she's currently at the pull up bar doing sets. A bead of sweat rolls down the side of her cheek as she continues with the smooth motions counting under her breath. While she might not be as muscular as some here she was very well toned, and doing the pullups in perfect form.

Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe has posed:
There is a slash of pinkish purple smoke, that is surprisingly bright considering the color scheme of the Cave, over by the platform holding the Batmobile and Batcycles. When the smoke clears there is a smol young woman, probably in her late teens, though she is former Damian short. o/~We don't talk about Bruno... no no... p/~ sings the teen clad in torn jeans and a wonderoman hoodie.

She drops a couple slagged bat-a-rangs on a workbench near the way to the amory. They honestly look like they were under intense heat and pressure and just crumpled. o/~ A seven foot frame... rats along his back.... o/~ starting to head to the secure armory before pausing and finally registering someone on the workout platform. the redheads head cocks to the side and she peers over at the woman doing pullups. Well. No alarms. Not in a supervillain costume. "Hi!" is said chipperly.

Julia Pennyworth has posed:
That was a little surprising. The entrance of smoke and a teen singing causes Julia to pause to stare mid-hang as she watches her make her way around. It's perhaps the inclusion of the damaged batarangs that puts her mind momentarily at ease to the unexpected entrance. She lowers from her hang to do two more pull-ups before offering out a simple greating of, "Oi."

With the reps done she drops to her feet giving her thighs a quick dust-off clap to get rid of some of the chalk she'd put on her hands to keep her callouses from tearing during her workout. Stepping toward a bench she snags a bottle of water off it to take a quick chug. "I'm Julia," she offers in explanation. "Need help repairing some gear?"

Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe has posed:
Also helps that no alarms went off as well probably when Charlie appeared out of the smoke. Hard to see it being a smoke bomb, but then there are so many ninjas and ninja adjacents in this clan of bats.

The teen leans against the work table and watches Julia dismount and take a water break. "Oh I'm pretty sure these two are beyond repair. I mean... some people might love to teach me how to resmelt and forge a batarang the old fashioned way but I am not even sure what the alloy is in these suckers now a days right.... I mean.. I assume it isn't just steel or somethin..."

Honestly she has no idea. There is a thoughtful look after taht ramble.

"Oh.. sorry.. Charlie." she pauses thinking "I know I saw a file with a Julia..." not popping right to her mind though, yup not the world's best detective or prodigy. "I kinda messed those two up myself anyhow experimenting. Was stopping by to snag some more... looks like I am in luck of missing disapproving looks too." an eye flick around. Her luck and Bruce would be in a shadow stepping out about now after a comment like that.

Julia Pennyworth has posed:
"Probably not. More likely they're ceramic, it gives a sharper edge," Julia reasons while walking over to examine he two completely damaged batarangs. They're regarded with a thoughtful gaze only to shake her head at that. "Scrap. Though I'm sure they get recycled around here somehow." It would make sense. One way or another there was no need to keep broken weaponry around. "And as far as the family skills go I believe 'smelting' is a bit beyond us."

Grinning wryly she dips her head at the younger teen a moment when she mentions a file. "Julia Pennyworth. Alfred's daughter. Just back from across the pond so I'm having to re-orient myself around here. Good to meet you, Charlie."

Cassandra Cain has posed:
There are others in the cave as well; the bats watch the ongoing interaction with private hatred. They never consented to allow the humans to build in this, their home. Though many generations of bats have lived and died here since that time, they've never forgotten. A sort of peace between them and the loud ones has been established, eventually. But they watch.

One human has been sitting there, hanging from the side of the wall, and long enough for them to have gotten over her arrival. She has her eyes open as they do, listening. To the bats, she is nearly one of them. So when the human starts to climb down the wall, they don't freak out too much. A squeak as one is touched, another a moment later. The bats are restless tonight.

Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe has posed:
"I am pretty darn certain someone here knows how to smelt." points out with amusement.

Upon close examination the bat-a-rangs are slagged yes, but they definitely look like it was a sudden burst of temperature and heat almost from within them.

"I had .. no idea Alfred.. wait no.. I did have an idea.. I did see that somewhere but..." she just boggles. Honestly she is probably just boggling at someone like Alfred having sex at any point in their life. That is like thinking of parents having sex. Somehow even more weird though.

Charlie absolutely has not even noticed Cass's approach yet. So many ninjas and ninja adjacents. She is ... marginally better at her loom and spook as she calls it, but nothing like people like Cass.

Also doesn't help she sings to herself so often on the job.

"I was trying to enhance those two with an enchantment I'm trying to learn... would let them hit ghosts and demons and stuff better."

Julia Pennyworth has posed:
Julia Pennyworth tips her head to the side at the sound of the bats stirring. It's a slight gesture as she becomes more aware of her surroundings once more. She was no ninja, but she had been in warzones before or on undercover assignments. Being aware of everything going on was very much something that she was familiar with. Even if she HAD let her attention slip while in the cave.

Even so her attention seemingly shifts back to Charlie's remark about embuing the batarangs with magic. "I see. I don't know much about magic myself, but I know it was pretty common for ancient cultures to carve or paint sigils onto weapons before going into battle. Would something like that help, perhaps?" She suggests with a gesture at the melted pile of batarangs.

"Seems we're not alone as well," she adds with her gaze skimming to the side again suspiciously.

Cassandra Cain has posed:
The onlurker lets her eyes pass over the two below, gauging their reactions to the shifting of the chiroptera's sounds. That level of shift in the background would have had her looking around. When Julia spots it she smiles; a good test. Now if she can just get Charlie to take the fuzz out of her ears, this'll become a good team.

Cass reaches the area where her climbing line is attached, then slides down it. Taking her time, she has no wish to cause a huge bat swarm tonight. It's rude to the bats, and often to the humans as well. So she lets herself down, then stands and waits.

Where she's at, a light shines on her from time to time. They'll see her at some point. Change blindness is a thing though.

Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe has posed:
Does have a lot of cotton fuzz in her head most days, it is true, but her heart. Totes in the right place.

"Yeah I actually used a microdremal on those two and inscribed the glyphs I was suppose to into it and when I did the incantation to charge them... well it was very explosive as you can see." she shrugs a touch. "I'm still learning though from Zatanna... I'll probably get it right eventually. I mean I hope. Practice makes perfect right?"

Once Julia alerts her that they aren't alone Charlie pauses and looks around slowly, first to the side where Julia glances, and then going upwards so she can check the up direction. This at least seems like honed reflex. People just don't look up. They don't. Which the BatClan uses constantly to their advantage. Just because you can't easily get up top doesn't mean others can't. Stop making assumptions sheeple.

Her eyes fall on the revealed form of Cass eventually this way, and a light smile graces her lips. She may not have heard Cass but.. this may save her a thwap upside the head later.

Julia Pennyworth has posed:
Quiet as one might be there was always a certain sound made by a zipline. It was inevitable: It was friction after all. Julia's gaze swings around sharply toward where the sound ends up--To the best of her abilities. The bad thing about a usually quiet cave is that things echoed quite a bit. Her eyes dart in the wrong spot, then over the correct spot, before dipping back immediately to the correct spot again as she spies the figure there.

At least it was someone she'd met once before, however breifly.

A little laugh is let out as she finally relaxes marginally. "Oi, you scared the piss outta me. I was about t'think the bats got technology or something." A little joke, and one she's not entirely sure will be understood by Cass, but it was just her personality. Again she shrugs at Charlie.

"Seems to make sense far as I know. Weaponry is more my thing."

Cassandra Cain has posed:
The dark figure reassembles itself into Cass, who raises an eyebrow toward Charlie. She grins a little, waving her hand in the air in a 'swat' motion. Nowhere near Charlie, but the image is enough. Then she tips her head atta Julia, eyes drifting over the woman to the batarangs.

As if she's been paying attention, Cass walks to a machine. She leans in, them motions to folks to come watch, as she punches a few buttons in. She touches the touchscreen, selecting from a list of objects commonly used in the bat-fam, then hits a green bar at the bottom.

A moment later a system starts to move, as a 3-d printer prints out a batarang. It takes seconds, it's done in a deep black laminate that's the type that she trains with. She's showing how they 'smelt' around here. Cutting edge technology - 3-d printers that can do more than plastic.

Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe has posed:
"Yeah I got nothing but homework in that department." she just sighs a bit glancing at the slagged bat-a-rangs. "But I definitely want something effective against demons and spoopy stuff since I keep getting dragged into it with Justice League Dark biz..."

Charlie wanders pushing off the table to head over to the machine to watch what Cass is doing. "Okay... that makes sense... I mean... geeze..." she sighs ruefully. "I'm pretty sure I was being given each of these are precious and you must... yah .. honestly I deserved this moment completely." she seems amused not frustrated about it all.

Julia Pennyworth has posed:
Julia Pennyworth lifts her water to take another long swig off it while watching the approach and summoning of Cassie toward the machine. Curious in and of itself she heads over to watch the 3D printer do it's thing with a soft 'huh' of appreciation. It's Charlie's remark that earns a wry grin.

"They are. All weaponry is when you're in the field." She holds up a hand with two fingers raised as she explains at least what SHE had been taught. "One: Leaving evidence behind is bad. Two: In a fight, once you're out, you're OUT. You don't want that to happen before you finish a fight. Keeping what weaponry you have available can be the difference between life and death."

Cassandra Cain has posed:
Pulling the batarang out of the machine (didn't take long to make at all) Cass taps it against her own head, while Julia and Charlie make mouthnoises. She pauses, then she holds the 'rang to her chest, right where the bat symbol would be if she were in that outfit. Most of the time she doesn't wear it, but she does own a bat-shirt.

She points to the Bat on her chest, then mimes throwing it. Then she rolls her eyes a little, and reached into her pocket and pulls out a knife. That one she shows meaningfully. Then shrugs, as she weighs one in each hand, batarang vs throwing knife. They seem fairly equal.

After that little thing though, she puts the batarang onto the table, prongs down. The Bat symbol. She means something with all this, but what?

Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe has posed:
"The reason we don't just use knives and throwing stars and other very effective sharp ponty things is that this is a symbol." she spreads her hands ot the whole of the cave. "We are in the middle of symbols. Mythos really."

"Gotham is run in symbols and myths as far as I can tell.... really strange magical energies too in the leylines here... but yeah. We are a symbol. It means specific things... like this one." taps her wonder woman hoodie. "This means something different." she scoops the finished bat-a-rang off the table and studies it. "I may need some traditional forged ones to do the enchants... wonder if the metallic powder and alloy in this process is what is messing up the hold on it... or maybe I should just enchant my gloves and boots..."

Julia Pennyworth has posed:
Julia Pennyworth watches the moves Cassandra makes. It escapes her a moment, really, what is being said. She gets the gist of 'it's a symbol' but her training was military unlike everyone else here except perhaps her father, and Kate Kain. When Charlie explains further though she nods with apparent understanding. Third reason then for the Bats besides the two she had been taught.

"Eh, if it's anything like the myths I grew up with, cold iron is supposed to hinder magic. Though I doubt there's iron in these," she reasons as she regards the batarang. It's shrugged off to flash Cass a smile at the apparent lesson that had been taught with a dip of her head. She would keep that in mind.

"Good to know."

Cassandra Cain has posed:
Now it's Cass who is looking lost. Once things got into discussing leylines and enchants and cold iron, she lost track of what the two were saying. Reading body language about esoteric things is gobbledegook and Cass only gets things when they're discussing basic words, or actions. So she nods to Julia, then sighs and puts away her knife properly. Then she turns, looking at the list of printable toys a moment. For all the world, she actually looks mildly annoyed. Maybe. To be fair she only just started realizing that reading had merit. It's a process.

Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe has posed:
Charlie misses Cass looking annoyed for a moment peering at the bat-a-rang in her hands. "Hm" then she blinks and sighs. "Crap. I think maybe the mythos around the bat is what is messing up my enchant. The thing is supercharged with all the ... BATMAN and Gotham ... and I didn't compensate for that at all. I'm also not using a bat themed enchantment either.. crudsticks...."

The young woman rubs her face with her hands now managing to not poke her own eye out with a batarang in the process thankfully. "Well.. more homework I guess... and yeah cold iron works okay against demons.. also faeries hate that stuff.. I mena crackers does it make them burn like crazy bad..."

She leans to peer past Cass at the list of toys it can print curious now.

Julia Pennyworth has posed:
"Huh." That remark causes Julia to just stare off into space for a long moment contemplating all the myths and superstitions she grew up hearing. It's shaken off to take another gulp of her water. Though she was already feeling properly cooled down from her earlier exercise. "Guess I might need to revisit some old stories if there's a lot of magic going on around here."

Her attention shifts to the monitor as well, before tilting her head to Cass. "What are you looking for?" Though... would she understand that? A hand lifts to tap the of her temple near her eyes before gesturing to the screen with an up-and-down motion along the menu. Maybe that would get across what she meant.

Cassandra Cain has posed:
Cass shrugs, spinning the selector bar a moment. Then she turns the machine off, and looks at the pair. Unlikely, but they do well together it seems. Too bad she's no idea what they're talking about, as she grins and turns away. Then rummages in the fridge for sushi.

Not all messages are deep, and Cass is just...hungry. Maybe she'll finally try a cookie. Nah, not likely.
