The Wearing of the Groan
Date of Scene: 16 March 2022
Location: Greenwich Village
Synopsis: Corned beef is sought and acquired and superheroes drink for free.
Cast of Characters: Ted Kord, Joan Wright, Peter Parker, Carin Taylor

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord is walking through the village in uniform with a large green topper. The costume is not going to be changed. He has a trademark after all. As he moves through the streets people are wearing green and givng him the nod or a surprised laugh, or a friendly greeting.

The police, let us say, have a relaxed attitude towards alcohol. The fricking world nearly ended again. . People are a little surprised at a real superhero walking among them. A few people even greet him with 'Hello, boss!" or "Hey, Ted!" Some ask for a photo and he hides the to-go cup behind his back. Superman would probably give him hell for a photo like that. Ted surveys the crowd for Joan.

Joan Wright has posed:
Unlike earlier in this week, Joan was not wearing blue beetle merchandise or borrowed clothing. Fortunately for her she had returned back to normal size so she was able to pick from her own clothing for today's activities. (Although the really comfy clothes from earlier may have made it into her house for future use as sleepwear. It's not fair how comfy guys clothes are. It really isn't.)

In concession to the spirit of the holiday, or to avoid those who still insist on pinching others, Joan has worn a bit of green today. The woman apparently has green cargo pants in her repetoire and those have been paired with white tennis shoes and a white top. And thanks to a random passerby who was flinging them all over the place, she also has a set of green beads with shamrocks draped around her neck.

She does not have a to go cup of alcohol and instead is waiting outside Jonah's Place.

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord makes his way towards their assigned meeting outside Jonah's Place and sees his favorite architect. He heads over to her with a slight wobble. Drawing near he softly says "Joan..." and puts his arms around her waist. "Where you been? Everybody wanted to buy me a drink. I think they were hoping for Spidey but he don't drink. So... I didn't want to get hammered before we met and I said just give me an ice tea. I got this brand called Long Island Ice Tea. I like you this way. A lot."

Joan Wright has posed:
As Ted comes into view, Joan looks over to spot the masked man. She smiles at first but upon seeing the wobble, the expression falters. Stepping forward, she lifts her hand to allow for Ted to wrap his arms around the waist. At the very least she'll make for a fine steadying post. "I went ahead to make sure we had a table." Joan offers up, "Everywhere is busy so there's more of a wait."

Joan tilts her head, glance following the movement of Ted's head as she reaches up to tap the side of his mask. The hand lowers as he mentions the drink he acquired. "Long Is- Oh dear. Ted. That's not really tea. That's a- really strong cocktail." She frowns, "Are you going to make it through the meal, Ted?"

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord waves off the concerns. He also takes her hand and guides it to the hidden button on the side of his mask causing it to retract. He kisses her hand. "Yeah I found that out. I thought it was just tea with lime or something they do on the Island." His hands go up to her shoulders, which are quite girlish now, though. "Ah well I would have been a lot less trouble to tote around a few days ago. I think I'll be okay once I eat something. Lead on MacDuff."

Joan Wright has posed:
The architect smiles to the kissed hand before looking up, peering at Ted's uncovered eyes for a few moments. "I guess it would be a bit noticable halfway through if you're not drinking one too quickly. Either way, you're not driving or flying tonight so you should be fine."

The prompt to lead on gets met with a confused look from Joan. "I thought it was 'Lay on Ma-' She pauses, glancing down with a shake of the head. Probably not topic matter for the time being. She reaches down to take Ted's hand before leading him inside. She ends up steering him to a seating area to relax while waiting for the Wright table to open up for them. "Oh did you see the guy throwing beads on your way here?"

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord nods. "I thought me might be a villain for a minute. Then I thought, oh like Mardi Gras." He notes the beads around Joan's neck. "Hey... you don't get those beads the way you do in New Orleans do you? I mean you got upset when you were transformed and..." he mimes a button hitting him in the eye. "I mean I got a lecture and I wasn't even looking. Despite what you thought." He drapes an arm around her shoulders and settles in a little more.

Joan Wright has posed:
Joan gives Ted a quiet look for a few moments as he inquires to how she acquired the beads and glances down to her white shirt. Which is still nicely tucked in to her pants. "No. He was just throwing them to everyone."

"Which reminds me..." She pulls away from Ted's arm as she turns, reaching into one of her pockets. A slightly different green set of beads is tugged out and held out to Ted. "Got one for you too. Not from the drunk guy. One of the shops is selling them for a MDA fundraiser."

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord takes the beads and thanks Joan with a kiss. "MDA? -Jerry's Kids?" He slips them over his head, keeping them clear of wherehis mask extends. "Thank you. I didn't get you anything, though you made off with half my loafing around clothes. Thanks by the way. I kept meaning to clean that closet." He transfers his arm to around Joan's waist. "We should get out more, no villains are around or they're getting blitzed. So you feel all right after tat scarab episode?"

Joan Wright has posed:
"That's the one." Joan reples, "Although, I think it's just MDA now since Jerry- well. I thought you'd rather have your beads sourced through them than a random drunk guy. As for the clothes, Well can you blame me?" Joan asks, smiling as Ted puts on the beads. "They're very comfortable." She glances over towards the dining area, wondering when their table will be available. "They're extra busy today."

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter steps out of the nearest alley, looking a little flustered and unkempt. He tucks his shirt into his baggy jeans, but not too tightly. Helooks around, then checks his phone. Ted's here somewhere.

Normally, he wouldn't even bother Ted outside of work hours, but this is...kinda important, and he's willing to take the chance.
Okay, he's 73 feet away by the Spider-Comm reader...closing in.

Looking like another schmuck paying too close attention to his phone.

Carin Taylor has posed:
Carin...does not have a huuuuge amount of things on her schedule. That whole lack of ID and dearth of memory comes with the upside of not being actually in school or really having much she has to attend to. Other than trying to stay out of trouble. Which she's mostly done! I mean, there was that one time with the crazy cat lady who attacked her, but it didn't even need stitches. Also totally not her fault.

So she's often out just, well, running. Because she does enjoy it, even if she's not going at full speed, the feeling of moving and such. She's a little shy about wearing her costume after that attack anyway, so going a bit slower is easier on her clothing generally. Which since it's generally thrift, it's kinda worn to start with, so air friction really won't help it much.

But any growing girl (which she hopes she still is in certain aspects) needs food, and a big pastrami and swiss sandwich is sounding pretty good right now, and she vaguely remembers Booster or Ted mentioning this place, soooo....well! She's willing to try it. She has a little bit of allowance money at least to spend on such things. Or at least, money that was probably not acquired through nefarious means. Mostly.

And heading inside, she even sees Ted. "Hey! Mr. Kord!" Then she draws up a bit short as she sees he's 'with' someone, suddenly a bit shy in front of someone she doesn't know and simultaneously hoping she didn't just bust in on a date or something. "Um, hi.."

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord is about to say something whimsical and witty to Joan and then sees and hears Carin. He tilts his head at Carin and gets what he takes for a positive reaction from Joan and gets u- whoops, get. up. and goes over to the young girl. "Carin... I thought I told yu it's Ted. Come over and Joan me and join... err join me and Joan." He attempts to take her by the arm and lead her to the table. "The more the merrier I say. Carin Taylor, Joan Wright. Joan works for Damage Control. You... should talk to her sometime. they can use people like you. Now come sit. Dinner is on me. I'm rich." He returns to hs spot next to Joan.

This is obviously a happy man.

Peter Parker has posed:
Forty feet...thirty...twe-OH. Yikes.

Joan, Ted, and Carin can now see a young man who looks nowhere NEAR old enough to drink, wearing baggy clothes and holding a phone like it's a PKE Meter.

Ted...has two girls with him. Wait...body language. He's on a date with one, the other is...well, either she's a superheroine or someone got a little wild with the facepaint.

*You wear a glorified ski mask. Judge not, lest ye be flippin' JUDGED.*

He's staring. It's gotta be for more than a few seconds now. Say something smart!

"Uhm...hey, boss?"

*SWING AND A MISS, PETE.*

Joan Wright has posed:
It appears the looking around the dining area was sufficient enough to draw attention to WHO was waiting for a table. Space just cleared up around one table and judging from the glimpse of those seated nearest to the opening and where they were looking-.

Ok so maybe that suit of Ted's is useful for things other than crime fighting. Either way they're getting seated.

Hearing Ted get greeted, Joan turns her head to look over towards the one who spoke. Finding a girl of similar height but of a younger stature, she looks to Ted for a moment. The lowered tone of the followup does register to her ears and she looks back over to the red head. "Hi." She greets, giving a smile.

Fortunately Ted's response provides a bit more context as he heads over to collect the newcomer and bring her back to the table and also eliminating the awkward 'who is the other person'stage. "Hello Carin." Joan greets, now having a name to do more than just 'Hi.'

Hearing a sort of familiar voice, Joan turns her head to see one of the Kord employees that she's met before, a few times. The smile remains as she lifts up a hand to wave to Peter. "Hi Peter." She glances to another empty seat, "Come join us!"

She looks over to Ted, "That's alright, right?"

Carin Taylor has posed:
The pale red-haired girl blinks as Ted snags her. "Um, Mr. Ted..." she stammers, correcting herself, tensing for a moment then letting herself be pulled along. Well. She's not going to say no to a paid for meal, but.... "Are ya sure I'm not interruptin'?" she says with the not quite dulcet tones of a native Chicagoan. "Um, hi." she says, more shyly to Joan as she takes a seat, then glances over to Peter, before waving at him tentatively. has she met him? She thinks she's met him...he looks sort of familiar....maybe he's just got one of those faces though.

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord patpats Carin's arm. "I didn't get that accent before. I'm from Chicago, originally. Sit down and let me treat you to some dinner. Oh, Carin Taylor, this is Peter Parker. He works for me. Sometimes it's more like he works with me. Come over and have some dinner Peter. Apparently I have a couple fans in the Village. Enough to get me slightly hammered." Despite the joke, Ted speaks more clearly and soberly when he speaks again. He has to be a little serious around Peter. Pete is definitely NOT out in the open about his identity. He trusted Ted with it. All manner of goofy things happen to Ted but, he knows when to be careful. He had a secret identity once. then he had n personal life and gave it up. It worked for him.

"What's on your mind Pete. Is your aunt all right?"

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter smiles earnestly. "Thank you, Ted." He smiled to Joan. "Evenin', ma'am." He looks to Carin. "Hello, Miss Taylor. I'd call him Mr. Kord as befitting his position, but he prefers Ted."

He looks back to Ted. "She's back in town. Glad to be home, but she was sure grateful to you for all you did. She says you're getting an apple pie every week for the next decade. Delivered by her ownself." He smiled wryly. "I think she met a Travis-McGee type down there. She also loved the houseboat life."
Peter looked to the others. "Definitely my vote for Boss of the year, no other nominees."

Joan Wright has posed:
As Ted reinforces the invite, Joan looks over to Carin. "Ted mentioned you should talk to me about Damage Control?" She half summarizes, half inquires to the reason for the suggestion. "Are you into buildings?"

Ted's question about the state of Peter's aunt does get Joan's attention for a moment and then the greetings are given. "Well, you can call me Joan. I'd definitely would prefer that over ma'am."

Getting a bit more context that explains Peter's aunt being away from home, she nods. Oh right. The angel thing. Not everyone remained in the city during that. Which is the sensible thing of course.

Carin Taylor has posed:
Carin beams sunnily at Peter. She DID meet him! And he remembered her! That's cool. "Um, Carin then, Pete." she says, deciding to just go all in on the first name thing. "Carin's fine." She listens a bit curiously to the bit about Pete's aunt, then is distracted by Joan's question. "Oh, um, yeah, yer the people who put alla the building back together after a big cape fight, right?" she says, a but uncertainly. "I mean, I'm not super into building, but I'm pretty fast with stuff. Jobs, like carryin' an' running documents an' that sorta thing I guess?" she offers.

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord smiles and puts his hand on Joan's. "I can truthfully say, Carin has sped up my delivery system since she came along." He looks a little, disheveled, flustered? With the sort of people who have it in for Spidey, He gets up and says, "Could you excuse Peter and me for a minute? I have some work related things I have to check on and probably this is to public." He gestures to the door.

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter nods quickly, smiling apologetically to Carin and Joan. "I won't be long, I promise."

Peter looks a little antsy when he can get Ted alone.
"Tes, I'm really sorry to bother you while you're on a date. But I wanted to ask a favor."
He takes a quick breath. "There's another Spider. Young, but really earnest and principled. Thing is, he's wearing a costume like I did at first. Materials provided by Goodwill. I was going to ask if I could use the fabrication equipment to make another suit. Not with the KordWeave, I know better than to puch my luck, but...in my downtime, maybe?"

Joan Wright has posed:
Joan looks back over to Carin for her question about Damage Control, "Along with other things. There's also the cleanup process. And coordination." Joan considers Carin's comment, "Well, being fast is considered a plus in an emergency situation." Joan admits, "And sometimes the infrastructure makes it to where relaying information on foot is necessary."

Joan glances up as Ted steps away before looking back to Carin. "How sped up are we talking?"

Carin Taylor has posed:
"Well, um. Like, super speed fast. Mach 1? I try not to go that fast in th' city though so I don't accidentally break anything." the pale girl says, wiggling in her seat. "I haven't really clocked a max speed, cuz, um, I don't wanna go really, really fast and like...really mess something up, y'know?" She tilts her head, reaching up to run her fingers through her tousled hair absently. "An' I gotta wear my suit then, cuz it messes up my clothes with th' air friction."

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord shakes his head. "Damn lucky... I can't even get a protege. You can have the rest of the ResistWeave... though KordWeave sounds like a good name too. I'm already working on the next generation application: a self weaving costume. You store it in a ring or jewelry, push a button and zam! Works right over or under your clothes. Just... there's a uniform I'm working on already, a size 8. Leave that be. That's for Joan in case we work together." He also has Hella's costuming needs. But this is another story. Anyway let's get some dinner." He holds the door open for Peter and heads back to the table.

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter smiled gratefully. He can show him the designs later. Right now is a little time to be Irish, even though he can't drink.

As he followed behind Ted, his only wish was that Susan could've made it here.

Then...it would be perfect.
