Picnic for Two
Date of Scene: 21 March 2022
Location: A rooftop in Metropolis.
Synopsis: Jon and Molly have a very successful first date!
Cast of Characters: Jon Kent, Molly Hayes

Jon Kent has posed:
Ma Kent can cook. When Jon told her he had a date she was overjoyed for him, as he'd been having a rough time since his breakup with Simon, a boy in his grade, over Christmas break. So, she'd cooked in spades. It's way more food then is needed for the two, for sure. Still, it all looks and smells amazing.

The rooftop of the old brownstone overlooks the Gold Park of Metropolis, with its many acres of lush greenery. Flowers and various other pretty and useful plants grow in avenues on the rooftop, making a winding garden. Superboy sits at the center of the paths, his legs crossed as he adjusts the food. A blue blanket is spread out on the stone pathway, with a couple pillows to be comfy. Piping hot or cold food waits in little containers with serving spoons, along with two plates. Some sodas sit in some ice nearby. Or 'pop', as Superboy tends to call it. Lots of regional favorites from Kansas, so very meat and potatoes, with very sugary desserts. He's in his costume, and he keeps checking his collar and belt, making sure he looks okay. He's nervous.

Molly Hayes has posed:
Molly Hayes seems to have gotten the hang of her jetpack now, cruising through the air and managing to land with only a bit of a stumble, skidding just a little bit along on her feet until she almost stumbles. Way to look super cool there, Molly!

Molly's never gone fully in for a costume, although she thinks about it sometimes. She just doesn't really know any super tailors. So she's got on a Pikachu t-shirt, with a Pokeball hat stuffed down on her head. Jeans and sneakers, all nice and informal, proper for a teenage date. She'd thought about getting a dress or something, but a) she's not really that kind of girl and b) she would be flying and everyone would see her butt.

"Hi!" she says, just as nervous as he, "Wow, this looks amazing!!! I just thought we'd have bologna sandwiches or something!"

Jon Kent has posed:
He grins a bit and rises to his feet. "I was thinking that, originally. Or Big Belly Burger or something. But...my grandma heard I was having a date and..." The boy gestures to the layout. "You can take as much as you want for leftovers. Please. Less I have to fly back with. Or we can drop it off to some needy folks afterwards. I'm down for that, too."

Superboy steps around the food and reaches out to try and help her out of her jetpack, carefully setting it down on one of the benches flanking the pathway. "You look great, by the way. I mean...I like your style, is all. It's...it's cute."

Molly Hayes has posed:
Molly Hayes blushes deeply, her eyes going down as she lets him slide the jetpack off her shoulders. She moves to take a seat, criss-cross applesauce, "Thank you! I kind of have a hat collection going so I pick out a different one every day. I spend too much of my allowance on that," she sighs. "Your grandma must be pretty awesome. You have to thank her for me! And I don't know if we'll have any leftovers, I can pack it away pretty good!" she grins.

"Oh, and uh...you look really good, too," she adds.

Jon Kent has posed:
He laughs softly and sits beside her, before he reaches out to snag two pops. He opens them and holds one out for her as he glances aside to look into her eyes as they talk. How are his eyes so blue? "Thanks. I was gonna spend forever on my hair but then remembered I fly really fast and..." He shrugs with a rueful grin.

"She's a good woman. She's...dealt with a lot over the years. I help her as best I can and she looks out for me, too. It works out."

Molly Hayes has posed:
Molly Hayes grins, "Your hair still looks great! Maybe the wind is a good comb for you!"

"I wish I had a grandma like that. My family is, uh, kind of messed up. My parents are supervillains," she says. "That's why I ran away, a long time ago. They came after me and my friends. Turned out, like, all of our parents were being evil together. It was pretty crazy. We went through a lot, but we've beaten them mostly. I hope. Maybe they'll still try to get me someday," she says. Sheshakes her head.

"But I don't want to think about that. I want to think about you. I mean us. I mean the picnic!"

Jon Kent has posed:
He blushes a hint and brushes his fingers back through his hair. "Um, thanks..." The boy blinks when she admits her parents are supervillains, and a sympathetic look fills his eyes. Just like his dad, he can look SO damn compassionate. It's insane! "I'm sorry to hear that, Princess. Sucks you had to go through that. Really. I...can't even imagine."

Her admission at the end brings a small laugh and he glances away and then back to her. "Here, try this. It's one of my favorites." he holds up a plate with an interesting looking crispy bread on it, with dipping sauces. "So, most of Kansas' big famous meals are all brought over by Europeans back in the old days. This is Grebble. It's a fry bread with sweet or savory dipping sauces."

Molly Hayes has posed:
Molly Hayes feels a little shiver of delight when he calls her Princess. She'd never thought of it as a nickname before, but now that he used it that way, she finds out she -really- likes it.

She tries the food carefully, trying some of the sauce and being careful not to drip as best she can. "Oh wow!" she says after she has a bite, "This is so different! I've never had anything like this! Who knew Kansas was so exotic?" she laughs.

Jon Kent has posed:
He grins softly and shakes his head. "Don't know if I'd call it exotic but...we have our cool stuff, for sure. Ever wanted to see endless miles of corn? Ooooh, do we have you there," the boy says with a playful wink. He snags a piece of the bread, then, and dips it in the sweet sauce. "I always got yelled at growing up for my sweet tooth," he admits with a chuckle.

Superboy glances over once he's polished off his piece. "So, I'm not from here. I mean...this Earth. I'm...from an alternate future? I know, sounds weird and crazy, but..." He shrugs an athletic shoulder. "There you have it. Technically I'm not born for a few years, but...in this timeline I doubt I'll be born at all. So, here I am."

Molly Hayes has posed:
Molly Hayes blinks, "Oh, wow! That's kind of amazing. I mean, it sucks that you won't be born here. Maybe some other girl might get a chance at a picnic with the other you," she grins.

"I think seeing lots of corn would be kind of awesome. I've always been mostly a city kid. I mean, when we were on the run, I saw some small towns and stuff, but we never could stay very long. We'd just see the farms and stuff while we went by, but we'd never really get to stop and take it in. Does a farm count as nature? I feel like it's still nature, even if you planted it."

Jon Kent has posed:
Her chill reaction makes him smile, and he nods. "I'd call farms nature. Unless it's one of those factory farms." Superboy clears his throat and glances up at the sky. "But yeah. Back home I'm the son of Superman but...not here. So, it's kind of weird. A little awkward, you know? But my grandma here took me in when I got here and is just as great as if I was her real grandson." The boy pauses. "Well, you know what I mean."

Molly Hayes has posed:
Molly Hayes stares, "Wait, Superman is your DAD?!? Like, I knew you were probably related, but I thought maybe you were like his cousin or his nephew or something! Holy moley! That's awesome!" she says, then catches herself, "Sorry, I don't mean to fangirl, it's just...your dad's one of the superheroes I always kinda wanted to be. Even before I knew I could lift a bus over my head,' she smiles.

"I'm so glad that you were welcomed. The world is a pretty crazy place. Aliens, alternate dimensions, time travellers. Crocodile people," she says. "Having your grandma must've given you something kinda normal to hang on to."

Jon Kent has posed:
He grins softly and nods, offering a bit of a laugh. It's a nice laugh. "Yeah, he's my dad. Well, the other one is. This one is...well, he tries. It's awkward, though, like I said." Superboy shrugs again and then lightly bumps her shoulder with his.

"So, Happy Harbor? How's that? I go to public school in a small town in the middle of Kansas," he offers with a lopsided grin.

Molly Hayes has posed:
Molly Hayes nods, "I bet he tries really hard, even if it's weird. That's okay. Lots of things are weird. I think I've said weird a lot!"

She grins, "It's pretty good. A lot of the other kids are super, which is neat. Some of them on the down-low, though, so you don't always know. My roommate Vivian is pretty cool. I told you about her. The principal's pretty and sweet and does a good job looking out for everybody. Of course, since a lot of us are super, some crazy stuff happens sometime."

Jon Kent has posed:
"Sounds a lot more exciting then my school," he admits with a chuckle. "I can't even play sports because, y'know, it wouldn't be fair and would draw attention." The boy shrugs at that and glances over at her again. Here and there he picks at food, offering it to her, as well. Still, the vast majority of his attention is on the cute girl at his side.

"Don't be self-concious. I...like how excited you get about things. It's okay."

Molly Hayes has posed:
Molly Hayes has scooted a bit closer to Jon, her knee brushing against his just barely. As first moves go, it's pretty tame, but it's at least something!

"I'm definitely really excited," she admits, her cheeks rosy as she turns her eyes down a little bit, "I haven't really even been on a...a date before. Oh god, this is date, right?!?" she says, suddenly panicking a little bit that she misconstrued something.

Jon Kent has posed:
He grins and nods quickly. "It's a date, it's a date. Don't worry. I mean, I haven't been on a lot of them, but..." Superboy shrugs and lets his leg bump back against hers.

"It's been a bit. Last date was around Christmas, when my boyfriend broke up with me. Was kinda a mess after, so..." The boy chuckles and shrugs again. "But I'm glad you said yes. So here we are."

Molly Hayes has posed:
Molly Hayes laughs, "I would've yelled yes. I would've written yes on a big sign and held it up over my head," she says.

"So, do you consider yourself bisexual or pansexual? I am, too, but I'm never sure which word is the right word. Like, I find all kinds of people attractive, but bisexual sounds nicer, I think, but I think pansexual is more accurate. I'm sorry about your boyfriend. He's missing out."

Jon Kent has posed:
The boy smiles softly. "Thanks. I..." Her pauses. "Thanks." He clears his throat and glances down at his hands idly, trying to focus.

"I mean, I'm like you in that regard. I don't care about gender, really. I just...like some people? But yeah, I've said bisexual since coming out. Not that I have...much experience with -any- gender." He laughs and glances back over at her.

Molly Hayes has posed:
Molly Hayes bites her bottom lip and blushes, "I mean, me either. I didn't really get much chance to, like, go out with anybody while I was on the run. And all the people I was with were older than me and kind of thought of me as a little kid. Even when I grew up some," she sighs.

"I've never even, like...kissed anybody. I mean, not anybody, but like real kissing, on the mouth, with tongue. I mean, not that it has to be tongue. Not that I'm saying you have to kiss me! Although you...you could if you want?"

Jon Kent has posed:
He blinks at that and takes all of that information in for a couple of quiet minutes. "I've only really gone up to..uh...second base? I think? I dunno." Superboy clears his throat, before his eyes widen a good bit at the mention of kissing her. He looks over at her again, his impossibly blue eyes dipping from her eyes to her lips and back up again. "If...if you're sure..."

Waiting for a response, he swallows. Assuming she assents, Superboy leans in slowly, until his lips brush hers gently. It's a warm kiss, but a soft one. No tongue. Not too intense. Exploratory and shy. Still, when he pulls back he is blushing crimson.

Molly Hayes has posed:
Molly Hayes accepts that kiss with a soft little squeak in the back of her throat, melting almost immediately as she feels his lips on hers. She lifts a hand up and cups his cheek, as if encouraging him to stay, lingering for a long moment before she pulls back, too, swallowing hard.

"I...oh wow. I didn't know it would make me feel like that. I'm kinda dizzy," she says with a laugh. "I...think I'm going to want to do m ore of that. If that's okay with you," she giggles.
