Night at the Night Market
Date of Scene: 04 April 2022
Location: Brighton Night Market
Synopsis: Robbie and Sarah run into one another at the night market and talk life goals.
Cast of Characters: Robbie Reyes, Sarah Rainmaker

Robbie Reyes has posed:
The Market's a veritable hive of activity tonight. In addition to the usual noise and bustle of people haggling over junk under covered stalls, the smell of meat sizzling on spits, and chatter in a variety of languages, there's a wild-haired street artist creating an elaborate chalk drawing in the middle of the thoroughfare.

Robbie's seated on one of the less crowded benches lining said thoroughfare, ubiquitous as ever in a dark hoodie with a leather jacket thrown over top, and ratty pair of jeans shoved into work boots. He's got a plate of vareniki balanced on his lap, and is alternating mouthfuls of food with drags off his cigarette, while he watches the image of a phoenix come to life in chalk.

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah Rainmaker doesn't come here that often. Or if one were to be honest, ever. She's still kind of trying to get out more. So it looks more like a woman that's a bit shy trying to get her way through things, a large hoagie in one hand as she would maneuver back and forth through the crowd, managing to somehow not bump into anyone nor lose control of the large sandwich she had over with her.

Robbie Reyes has posed:
Robbie's pretty absorbed in watching the street artist do her thing, so it's a minute before he happens to spot the dark-haired young woman weaving the 'wrong' way through the crowd with her sandwich. He shoves another vareniki into his mouth, dabs at it with his knuckles, and chews as he watches her absently.

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah Rainmaker would move to the side and be a bit too pinned over in the flow of the crowd to move on without shoving herself through it. Sos he turns her attention over to the art, "Nice work." She would muse over.. PRobably only audible to Robbie in the hustle and bustle

Robbie Reyes has posed:
The girl grins up at Sarah, then resumes her work, pulling colours from a large box of chalk. "You don't come here much," comments a voice from nearby, dark eyes pinned to the young woman with her hoagie. His cigarette sits loosely between two fingers, smoke twisting into the dark.

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah Rainmaker would turn over to face the man, "First time. I'm somewhat new in the city and still learning places." She lies veyr well. So it might not even show unless one is very good at reading body language. "Only a couple of months. Was supposed to have been settled in here last winter, but life kind of got in the way."

Robbie Reyes has posed:
Robbie, however, is really no better at reading people than the next person. So if Sarah's lying.. well, he's pretty much none the wiser. "Couple of months," he repeats, fidgeting with his cigarette as he turns his gaze to the street artist's work. Then plucks another vareniki off his plate and stuffs it into his mouth. Hard to say where all that food goes; he's a lanky kid, could use some meat on his bones. "What kind of life?" he wonders, once he's done chewing and swallowing.

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah Rainmaker would smile, "Taking classes. Was supposed to stay with a friend but they've kind of had life explode on them with everything so I had to scramble and find some other places. The rent is way too damned high here. So finding somewhere I could afford wiht what I'm on, all that thing. Trying to audit some classes at ESU."

Robbie Reyes has posed:
"Uh huh," the young man replies, finishing off the last of his food. He hops to his feet, and goes to toss the paper plate out, before ambling back over with his cigarette. "What, uh. What classes?" Real smooth, there, Robbie. Conversational genius, this one.

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah Rainmaker would go to take a bite over of her food, "Was thinking of going for business. Maybe parks administration. Can't afford to go for a degree so just hoping I can take some of the lower end classes and make some contacts."

Robbie Reyes has posed:
There's a slight nod from Robbie as Sarah explains her plans. He shoves his free hand into a pocket of his leather jacket, and drags off the remnants of his cigarette while she continues. "Sounds like a solid plan. Beats a high school diploma, anyway." His smile is brief and wry; and more than a little self-deprecating.

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah Rainmaker would chuckle, "Well, yes. So much for having to pay for housing, then all the loans I'm going to get for just auditing.. Well, I have tos tart my lifetime of debt to pay back somehow."

Robbie Reyes has posed:
Robbie makes a little sound in his throat that might be amusement, too. It's hard to tell; the kid seems pretty serious. "Not unless you make it big," he confides in a low murmur. The cigarette's finished off, flicked to the ground, and crushed with the heel of his boot. "Well, good luck, huh?"

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah Rainmaker would nod, "Same to you. So your turn. What you after in life? Other htan knowing all the nice places the locals use to shop, which I as an out of towner am not?"

Robbie Reyes has posed:
He shrugs a broad shoulder, mouth pursing in a small moue of equivocation. "Mm. Quiero.. corregir algunos errores." He switches seamlessly to Spanish, and back to English again with another chuckle, "Look, I'm an out of towner too. Brooklyn ain't my digs, you know?" Judging by his accent and appearance, he's probably one of a large contingent of Hispanics from LA.

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah Rainmaker would laugh, "What borough you from? Or you from the west coast?" She would inquire, her ability to converse in Spanish seemingly limite dto that of someone who had been to California a few times by the way she would squint her eyes to try and translate it in her head.

Robbie Reyes has posed:
To be fair, he could've stuck with English. But Robbie's kind of a dick like that. "Borough?" His brows pinch together while he tries to figure out whether she means-- "Nah." He thinks for a moment, gaze flicking away and then back again. One eye's dark, and one is bright green. Which Sarah might notice from this close proximity. "East LA." Not exactly the nice side of the tracks, there.

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah Rainmaker would laugh, "Spent some time in La Jolla here. Loved the beaches. They were gorgeous. Lot of lovely places in LA. Never had the hcance to spend a lot of time there. That's probably not going to change for the next few years."

Robbie Reyes has posed:
"La Jolla's real nice," Robbie allows, his features softening ever so slightly when the place is mentioned. He seems distracted for a moment, like he's hearing Sarah talk, but not really listening. "I should get going," he murmurs abruptly, then thinks for a moment before sticking out his gloved hand. "I, uh. I'm Robbie, by the way."

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah Rainmaker would give a wave, "Take care, have a nice time around the city." The crowd seems to have conveniently split up, and Sarah has room to get on wherever it was that she was heading. Starting to jog along and in the opposite direction
