Millenial Ingenuity!
Date of Scene: 04 April 2022
Location: Various points in NYC and Gotham
Synopsis: Plans were Made!
Cast of Characters: Tim Drake, Emiko Queen

Tim Drake has posed:
It's not particularly easy to track Tim down. He's a private person, moreso than most of the rest of the Waynes and Wayne-adjacents. Very little internet presence, and decently skilled at avoiding the paparazzi except when he wants them to know where he is.

But it's not impossible. The @RightPlaceWrongTim account has an artsy photo of Gotham at night as its profile pic, but it doesn't take an extended investigation to figure out it's his.

Maybe the only reason that the rest of the internet hasn't is that it's... boring.

More artsy snaps of Gotham. Pictures of food, sometimes home-prepared (and ranging in quality from 'baby's first stir-fry' to 'three star Michelin chef worthy') and sometimes from various eateries across the city. A vegan food truck right off of Gotham U's campus called Onion Maiden features prominently. Way too many photos of a Jack Russell Terrier with one ear up and one ear down, slightly fewer of an Egyptian Sight Hound with a similar ear situation (though this second dog is obviously still a puppy to account for the floppy ear).

He definitely made a post about Pi Day with a slice of pizza to commemorate.

It's actually on two adjacent accounts that he occasionally tags, slash is tagged by, that confirms his identity for real. Rare selfies of Tim with a dark-skinned girl or a red-headed guy, both people Emiko would recognize from the party. The birthday girl herself, Phoebe, and Tim's plus-one, Lonnie. The Sight Hound is hers, while the Terrier is Lonnie's.

The most recent activity is an image of the Terrier (whose name is Yap) half-sprawled on the photographer's lap, looking out on a sunrise over Gotham City, somewhere downtown. And high up. Likely a penthouse.

Emiko Queen has posed:
Emiko herself makes it almost TOO easy to find herself on the internet. Ever since she was brought into the Queen family fold, she's been on an almost aggressive PR campaign. Social media accounts full of a smiling Emiko as she does various Queen family related tasks, or even just things a young woman of her age and standing should be doing! She has videos where she talks about why she chooses to go 'natural' and not use makeup despite the occasional blemish or 'flaw'. There's pictures on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, videos on TikTok, she has a bunch of boards on Pinterest.

She's known for her willingness to talk to people and share ideas, help others. The number of GoFundMe's and Kickstarter's she's listed on is nuts. Her presence is all over the internet and the profile is easy to build. 22 year old young woman with a strong moral compass, strong opinions but willing to listen to more than her own voice, lover of animals, she's trendy and fun, open and honest, even does walkthroughs of the various high society events she ends up at through the family.

She takes the time, stalking Bart's friends through various social media means. Tagging onto, following, or friend requesting where she can. Tim was hard to find, but after noticing trends from both Phoebe and Lonnie's accounts, she was able to trace back to Tim's Instagram, hitting a follow so she can get notified when he posts. It's bound to come in handy sooner or later.

And then it does! She's been wanting to set up a Game Night with Bart, Tim, and Conner (Bart's besties!), but without having more usual means of reaching out, she's been forced to get creative. When Tim's post pings on her phone, she sends him a message through Instagram Direct, which will ping his inbox!

'Hi, it's Emiko, met at Phoebe's party, Bart's girl. Trying to do a thing for Bart, please text at 934-555-0138.'

The number is easily traceable back to Emiko Queen, all the data is there for him to find, the number is legit. It's her, no doubt. He'll be able to find pictures taken of her and Bart at the various zoo's between the three cities, different eating places around NYC. And yeah, he probably recalls her from various functions, as well as the birthday party.

Tim Drake has posed:
The response that comes isn't immediate. Probably because he's doing the necessary checks to ensure that it is indeed Emiko Queen's number, even if it does come from her account.

Before she'd been Bart's plus-one to the party, Tim had been aware of her. He's got a good memory for faces (well, for most things) and someone in both his age and financial bracket who isn't completely awful tends to stick out.

No judgment, but he's met a lot of really stuck-up kids in the Gotham social circuit.

    Okay, maybe a little judgment.

Now she's on his radar pretty significantly. He wouldn't be doing his job as a best friend if he didn't dig obsessively deep into the background of Bart's new girlfriend, right? Look, maybe he has some weird beliefs about his duties as a best friend. Maybe he also has access to databases that are technically illegal for him to have access to. Either way, Emiko checks out! As far as Tim can tell, she's not secretly a supervillain trying to get close to Impulse for nefarious purposes.

So, eventually, he replies. It comes from a number with a Gotham area code, which is probably not a surprise.

'hey Emiko, this early planning for his bday or something?'

    '*eyes emoji* *party hat emoji*'

    'either way, happy to assist'

'let me know if i can put you in touch with any of his other gotham friends'

Apparently he's not a fan of condensing his texts into one message OR punctuation and capitalization.

Emiko Queen has posed:
Emi continues about her day while she waits for the response. Perhaps she's expecting it will take a few minutes. She would certainly go digging around if someone messaged HER out of the blue claiming to be their best friend's girlfriend.

She feeds her cats and does a few dishes and is in the process of wafting a feathered cat wand for Huginn's leaping when the text comes through. She flicks the wand a few more times before tossing a catnip-filled burlap mouse for him to stalk and pounce.

'Hey! Not yet! But soon! DEFINITELY soon!'

'*heart-eyes emoji* *martini glass emoji*'

'Pretty sure it will be the equivalent of big 2-1 for him! Will take some *serious* big mojo for that party!'

'He's been talking about missing playing video games with you and Conner'

'If you have Conner's digits and can throw him into the text, awesome!'

'Trying to set up a Game Night at my new place in Union Square, video games, snacky foods, and friends! Wanted to set up with you and Conner to surprise him!'

Tim Drake has posed:
In a penthouse above downtown Gotham, how Tim is going about his day isn't all that far off from what Emiko is doing. Though replace the feathered cat wand with a tennis ball, and Huginn with Yap.

Well, he's also balancing his laptop on one knee as he works, but Yap has been doing a great job at distracting him from that.

When Emiko's texts come in, he catches the tennis ball from its last rebound off the wall -- it's a good thing he's in a penthouse, because otherwise his neighbors would probably hate him right now -- as he taps at his phone.

'awesome, he deserves it. lemme know if i can help with the planning'

'i sent your number to Conner, he should text you back soon!'

There's a brief delay in his rapid-fire replies because Yap, having sat patiently waiting for some time, has finally decided that one questioning bark is necessary to determine why the ball has not been thrown for him yet again. Tim is momentarily busy with some apology pets.

'i'm down, just let me know when, i'll make time in my schedule'

Then, because he is a type-A personality almost to a fault, he sends Emiko a link to a private calendar of social events. Many of which she'll probably recognize and-or be attending herself; charity galas, museum exhibit unveilings, and the like. A few unmarked time slots greyed out without any indication of why, but otherwise a surprisingly open calendar for someone in their social strata.

Emiko Queen has posed:
Emi got lucky, she bought out a building in Union Square that was zoned commercial on the bottom and residential on top. She goes to fix herself some lunch while she waits, grabbing up some lovely tuna and shrimp, a small tub of pre-cooked sushi rice, and the makings of a seaweed salad.

She's just sliced up the tuna when her phone buzzes again. Pausing to wash her hands, she dries them off quickly and moves ot pick up her phone, smiling at the responses.

"Will do! He DEF deserves the best birthday!'

Munnin divebombs her from overhead, making her laugh and reach up to scritch a fluffy ear, "There you are, troublemaker. Your brother already got his treats, time for yours."

'Cool, thanks!'

'Bart is going through a bunch of end of semster studying, so I was thinking maybe end of month?'

"Celebrate the approaching end of classes with a night of video games?'

She receives the calendar and grins, flicking through her phone quickly before linking hers to him as well. Hers mirrors his fairly well with the society requirements, she keeps some slots blocked off listed as 'family time' though given who her brother is, that might be suspect. Overlaying her calendar with his, then adding in what she knows of Bart's, she sends him that one and has a few potential dates highlighted where all three have open space.

'Looks like... maybe the 22nd or 23rd of this month looks pretty good. Any conflict you can think of?'

Tim Drake has posed:
'for sure. i volunteer both myself and Conner as tribute for any party-related shenanigans, if you need to keep Bart busy somewhere else'

'hard ask but between the two of us we can probably pull it off'

Shockingly -- mostly because wow, Tim is up and active at noon -- he's also making lunch!

And by making lunch, we mean taking the elevator down to the first floor, where his food delivery is waiting for him at the reception desk. Not that such a task impacts his ability to text!

Emiko's text about celebrating the upcoming end of the semester gets far too many thumbs up emojis. Just, way too many.

    Then:

'both days are clear for me afaik. shouldn't be an issue keeping them open'

He takes Yap for a walk while he's down on the ground, because the food will keep, and it's Emiko's phone rather than his Insta that gets the video clip of the Jack Russell Terrier rolling around on a patch of grass. It's kind of weird that the dog's tag is an anarchy symbol, but also probably not surprising if she looked at any of Lonnie's post history.

'need us to bring any games/controllers/etc?'

Emiko Queen has posed:
'Perfect! Trust, I know just how hard it is to keep Bart busy.'

Emiko sends a few thumbsup emojis before constructing up her sushi while Tim is riding the elevator. She gets started on her salad only to pause and wash her hands once more when her phone buzzes.

'Let me know if you run into trouble, I can always text Bart and ask him to pick up a few things, he's such a sweetie!'

She shaves some carrot into the salad and lets out a laugh at the thumbsup that fill her screen, shaking her head. "Okay, he's got good friends."

'Sweet! I'll check with Conner to make sure that works for him too and then we can start the planning!'

She looks at the video with a grin, "Awwwwww! Adorable." Reciprocating, she captures a small video of Huginn and Muninn gamboling about the catwalks she's put in the high-ceilinged apartment, even getting a good shot of the pair of fluffy kittens looking right at the camera. Huginn is missing his left eye and Muninn is missing his right, they otherwise look identical.

'I've got the hardware covered unless you're a hardcore gamer guy and need your own controller. Bring any games you guys particularly like, otherwise, I have a pretty extensive library!'

Tim Drake has posed:
Tim isn't sure Bart has ever truly been busy in his entire life. Outside of various superheroic situations, probably.

Which. Honestly, can't relate. If there's any superpower he'd like to have, it's super speed. And only to significantly upgrade his productivity rate.

    Type-A, all the way.

'practically impossible but we'll figure it out somehow. teamwork makes the dream work!'

And while Yap is doing his business, AKA peeing on a parked police car (...don't ask) when he gets the video of the cats, which gets a similar barrage of emojis though this time around it's the smiley face with the heart eyes.

'look at the setup they have! they're adorable'

'pleading the fifth on the controller thing btw'

Then he and the dog exit stage left before GCPD Officer Harvey Bullock comes out from Batburger to realize his car's been vandalized. Nothing to see here!
