A Farmstead Fit For a God
Date of Scene: 29 April 2022
Location: Upstate New York
Synopsis: Sif shows Jimmy around her red barn.
Cast of Characters: Sif, Jimmy Hudson

Sif has posed:
The property was expansive. Spreading out in all directions, board fences separating it into many different paddocks of varying sizes. There were no horses present yet but it wasn't heard to guess that's what would be kept in those grassy fields in the future. There were a few trees here and there, but mostly the property was clear.

A large rustic barn was one of the prominent features when coming up the driveway between the wooden fences. It had seen better days. Much like the fences themselves. Some work would need to be done before it was secure and safe.

A bit away from the barn, further up that roadway, was a small ranch style house with a large porch. Nothing extravagent, probably three to four bedrooms perhaps. Enough for someone to live and again in need of some loving attention.

Sif had known she must have the property as soon as she saw it. She could picture the diamond in the rough. It would be glorious when completed. For now, she was working on one of the fence lines. A pair of jeans, a jerkin type shirt, boots on her feet. Her dark hair was pulled up in a high ponytail to keep it out of the way.

She had a small toolbox with her along with a stack of wooden slats. A few older slats that had been removed lay along the path she had taken, abandoned until she completed her work.

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
The SUV had pulled up on the roadway and she likely had heard its approach. The sightlines were such on the property that any vehicle turning onto the driveway to that wide patch of farm would be seen from most anywhere else on the estate unless one were behind one of the copses of trees. So she likely had a heads up.
Then there were the few moments where she'd see the figure get out of the truck, hands on his hips as he took in the lay of the land. She was too far away to see that smile, and to see that slight look of incredulity there. But when she straightened up near the fence his eyes were drawn to her and that was when he started to make his meandering way in her direction.
Was perhaps a minute before he got close enough to raise his voice and call out, "This was not what I was expecting."

Sif has posed:
The SUV caught her attention. Sif paused in her work, glancing at the SUV out by the roadway. She smiled to herself, unable to see his expression at that range. Suspecting he didn't see hers either. But when he got within voice distance, she pushed off from the fence and moved toward him. Slow steps until she met him and leaned in, resting a hand on his shoulder. Leaning her head in to claim a quick kiss before stepping back and waving a hand at the property.

"I do not believe in half measures. I believe this property will suffice for my needs. Though as you can see, it will need some work before it is ready for the horses to be brought in but I am not one to fear work. Not that there is much to see but would you like a tour?"

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
    "Oh no it's not that."
He had leaned in and perhaps the quick kiss gave him a second of reflection, a brief hesitation felt in his body language only for it to be given an acceptance when he turned his head to meet that kiss. His own hand resting on her arm.
He meant not that it was a half-measure as he smiled and hooked his hands in the belt loops of his jeans. Those blue eyes drifting across the countryside and then back toward her.
"I just..." His lips curve as he lowers his head, standing eye to eye with the tall woman, "Never imagined an Asgardian gal livin' in a ranch house. I always picture you guys in like. Castles." A pause, then he adds. "In the sky."

Sif has posed:
"Sadly, all the castles were taken," Sif teased as she smiled. "Though that is not entirely true. There were a few houses that might be called such. They did not have the necessary acreage. Thus, I will be living in a 'ranch-home with a quaint feel that could use a little TLC'." He could almost hear the quotes around that sentence. "I believe those were the exact words of the realtor."

She began to stroll toward the barn, since that was something she liked more than the house. A glance to be sure he was following along. "In time, I will possibly have the house razed and build something else. Though nothing in the clouds. Air is too thin." She grins a bit, showing she is teasing. A lot of people had that sort of misconception about the Asgardians. It was a god thing. Hard to think of then being people from another planet/realm instead.

"For now, my focus will be on the paddocks and the barn." She tilted her head to him. "Would you be interested in helping? I can offer employment for a wage though I do not wish to make things awkward."

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
Walking along with her, James falls into an easy step with her as he settles in at her side. A look is given to the house and then the surrounding lands. "It looks nice, some forested acres it looks like back there..." He gestures with one hand, then continues his stroll. "How many did you end up getting?" Which is his way, occupying his thoughts with the details and logistics of the matter. Already likely parceling it up into paddocks and how many would make the best run for the horses.
"And how many horses are you considering?"
But then when she turns and tilts her head toward him he does so as well, stopping in his stroll to meet her gaze evenly. "Sure..." He starts to say, then his lip curls up. "Oh nah, s'ok. Amount of time I could help might not be a ton considering I gotta stick with the school."
Then he takes a step ahead, smiling a little crookedly and sidelong at her as he gently slips his hands into hers, fingers giving a small squeeze as he starts walking again. "I can maybe be convinced to spend my weekends out here though. For some reason."

Sif has posed:
Sif squeezes his hand gently, falling easy into that casual show of affection. It's not something she's used to. Though she's seen it before, her few romances were not the type to casually hold hands and walk together. It was strange but she liked the feel of his hand with hers. Not a soft hand. This was the hand of someone not averse to some manual labor.

"I am certain I can create something suitably appealing," she says with a smile. Then she leads the way to that barn. There are double doors on both ends which are already sitting open. The interior is filled with stalls, about twenty of them, ten per side. It definitely needed work, like all the other structures.

"I intend to fill all these stalls. Currently I have purchased four. I have some Asgardian stock I will be bringing. In the hopes to see if the species can interbreed."

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
"That'll be..." Jimmy pauses at the entrance of the barn, smiling and still holding her hand but then letting go as they start to wander around the old building. "That'll be amazing probably." The young mutant turns to look at her as he rests a hand on the door of one of the stalls, then considers the surroundings.
"And possibly... a big deal." He bites his lower lip thoughtfully as he turns and taps a fingertip lightly on the wooden panel of the door, then focuses fully on her. "Like, if they're able to interbreed, and you have some of the few stock, then any foals you produce could be worth a lot of money. Especially in high society."
Shaking his head he murmurs, "I know yer not hurtin' for money, but... there's some to be made here. You'll need to be wary of folks comin' by lookin' to invest or get some angle on ya. Or even steal some of your stock."

Sif has posed:
"Stealing from an Asgardian is ill advised. Especially from the goddess of war."

In that moment, it fit to mention the title some used for her. Though Sif truly never really thought of herself in those terms. Certainly she was a warrior. One of the best.

"Though they would not realize who I am. You are correct. I would like your advice on security measures. I am not familiar enough with Midgard." She moves to the next stall, opening the door and wandering in. There was a broken board and she ripped it off, not bothering with removing nails to do so. It was easy enough with her strength. It was tossed out into the center of the barn casually. "I do not wish to breed them for money. I have a love for equines thanks to my father. Though your words of caution are valid. Others may attempt to take advantage. Attempt to ...what is the Midgardian term? Get a foot in the door?"

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
As she starts to tear at rotten pieces of wood, James does similarly but not as theatrically. Just pieces that he recognizes are going to have to be replaced and from the interior work instead of the structural needed for... keeping the building standing. But another reddish board is pulled from one of the stalls and tossed into the middle of the barn as well.
"Well," He starts, dusting his hands off on his jeans as he continues to walk the aisle. "Only security I knew and helped with was back at Big Roy's ranch. They had some light motion sensors that'd trigger some floods for when predators might try to sneak in with the livestock."
Another crunch and rip is heard as he grabs an old board and twists it off of a pair of rusted nails, his arms tensing as he has to put in a good bit more effort than her. But the way he focuses with that slight scowl and the swell of those biceps... at least he looks good doing it.
"They had some cameras set up in the barn. An automatic gate on the roads in and out of the ranch."
Another board thumps into the pile then he's slapping his hands together as dust and rust fall. "Oh and a good number of shotguns and the willingness ta use 'em."

Sif has posed:
It was going to take many days of work. The good news was the structural integrity was good. The building wasn't going to be coming down. But so much work inside and outside still to do. Maybe weeks of work. But she had the time. It wasn't like she was going to get any older in that short of a span on Midgard.

"I will need these things in place before bringing in the stock. Though it sounds technical. Which is not my strong point." The smartphone playing multiple songs at once when they met was probably an indicator of that.

"I will need to learn. Do you have a suggestion of a place to study such? Outside your school which I believe I am too old to attend," she added with a little laugh.

Though she did tilt her head. "Shotgun." She knew of guns on this world. But she didn't know much about them. "I am not familiar with that weapon."

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
Stepping back toward her he half-smiles a little, "You can hire a consultant, I'd recommend it. Just mention you want to protect your stock and they'll set you up. I'll ask around and see who I can finagle for you. I can probably get some business cards at the least."
That said he stops to stand beside her, hands on his hips and giving the place a once over. Chewing on his lower lip he considers, "Though depends on how fast you want things done. A place like this..." He smiles sidelong at her, "Half the fun is doin' it yerself and takin' the time needed." A nod as he looks around, "Then once you have your animals settled in and safe, yah. Get the security measures in before you start your breeding program."
He takes a deep breath and looks thoughtful, only then recognizing that last question. "Oh a shotgun? It's like a rifle. But usually you load it with shells which fire a lot of smaller pellets instead of one large bullet. Usually meant or dealing with wild animals but if someone is trying to steal your horses then... yeah."

Sif has posed:
Rifles. She knew that those were long guns. Handguns were the smaller ones, that fit the term. Shotguns were apparently like the long guns. Smaller pellets. It was a curiosity. "I must see one. Learn more. About all the firearms from this world. The best way to fight is to learn." She considered a moment. "I suppose here people find these more intimidating than a spear, bow, or crossbow?" For the Asgardians had their own ranged weapons. They just didn't have that ch-CHANK sound when someone racked a round into a chamber on a shotgun that was a universal language for humans. One that meant get the hell out of the way.

"I would appreciate the consultants. Thank you once more for your assistance." Formal words but they were softened by the smile from Sif as she touched his arm briefly.

She glanced around at the barn then back to him. "I intend to do the work myself. Perhaps some friends will assist from time to time. Hard work is a reward unto itself. That is an old Asgardian phrase my father taught me."

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
"Well, if yer askin'..." Jimmy says as he covers her hand with his and gives a gentle squeeze. Then his eyes wander the room and he nods to himself in reflection on what they'll all have to do. "I suppose I can clear my calendar."
As he says that he turns his head to meet her eyes. And for a moment he seems to pause and just look between each iris, as if trying to see which one she's hiding behind or which one has the more vibrant color of blue. Ye it's a short search relatively, eased as his own features soften a little.
Drawing his lower lip between his teeth briefly he murmurs a quiet. "So hey." As if just letting her know he's there, and that their hands feel nice and warm, and there's something that brings him closer as he leans in.
And very gently their lips touch.
