Trees in the Park
Date of Scene: 12 May 2022
Location: Central Park
Synopsis: Kara and Groot have a lovely (if limited) conversation. Kara gets a flower!
Cast of Characters: Groot, Kara Danvers

Groot has posed:
In a rare moment without his buddy Rocket around, Groot has found a nice little grove of trees in central park. Anyone with super senses will be able to tell he hasn't moved in a long time, and there are birds landing on him and flying about. He's just another tree to the wildlife of Earth. He might have to take a shower later, but he grins broadly as he quietly watches the local fauna of Central Park.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Supergirl, for her part, had to jaunt to NYC for some business. Central Park always makes a nice sight from above, with the rectangle of green on the island of city, but today it's something different that she notices. Most people might not, but with her senses, noticing Groot is a little easier, and she's definitely curious. So the blonde in blue soars down, before inverting near the ground to land boots first. She looks at the tree interestedly, sweeping over it with various sensory abilities, to look for things out of the ordinary.

Groot has posed:
Birds quickly fly away, fleeing the blonde kryptonian. The Flora Colossus, meanwhile, turns his head. Well, that's something out of the ordinary, anyway! Raising a hand, because he has hands, not just branches, the ten foot tall tree man holds his palm up toward the stranger. A flower quickly grows from his palm, and he plucks it, offering it. "I am Groot," he says, his deep voice surprisingly gentle as he introduces himself.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Well, that's a pleasant introduction. The blonde walks closer, and accepts the proffered flower. "Hello, Groot. I'm Supergirl. It's nice to meet you." It's a shame the birds fled. But meeting a tree man certainly isn't something you do every day. "I'm sorry I chased your birds off."

Groot has posed:
Groot gently shrugs. He doesn't seem bothered about it. He turns on the boulder he sits on to face Supergirl. Vines grow from his body and across the ground, balling up into something like a comfortably sized stool for Kara to sit on just behind her, just far enough away to not lift her cape. Gesturing with his arm, Groot invites her to sit with a pleasant, "I am Groot."

Kara Danvers has posed:
The blonde sits on the proffered chair, crossing her legs, and nods. "I know, you said that." She smiles. "I'm assuming you're not from around here...but maybe you are?" Groot might be magic, some kind of mutant, an alien...almost anything! It's why this is interesting. After all, he doesn't seem threatening, so there's no reason to do anything other than have a nice chat.

Groot has posed:
The vines follow the curve of Supergirl's spine to give her a backrest. Groot shakes his head as she speculates his origins. Pointing at the sky, he tries to explain, "I am Groot." Whether good or ill, Supergirl isn't going to get too much more in the way of verbal explanation, at least not without someone to translate.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Actually, that gets a bright smile from her. "Oh, me too! Earth languages are such a pain. They don't make any sense!" But clearly he can understand her, and shake his head, and move, so they have some communication going. She seems happy to have run into another alien. "So are you just visiting?" She's already shifting her questions a little more towards yes/no.

Groot has posed:
Groot smiles as she plays along. There have been much worse reactions to his unique language from others who didn't understand. Of course, she was just assuming what he said, and was replying playfully instead of getting frustrated at their inability to fully communicate, but it was a welcome change from Rocket twisting his words around. "I am Groot," he...explains?...when she asks if he's just visiting. However, given that he does so with a shrug, maybe he's not that sure, either.

Kara Danvers has posed:
"Fair answer." She likes to feel like she's at least getting a rough idea. Of course, with her abilities to see body heat and hear internal pressures, she usually can read people really well. Admittedly, she's most used to doing that with humans. "Do you have a ship here?" She looks around, seeing if anything else looks strange here.

Groot has posed:
That's a little harder for Groot to answer. Creaking his neck, he looks around, getting his bearings. He then points a certain direction through the city. "I am Groot," he says. Maybe that was a yes, but it wasn't in the direction of the new spaceport.

Kara Danvers has posed:
She looks curious. "Interesting." She doesn't know any spaceships in that way. She looks back to Groot after that. "Do you have anyone who translates for you?" Since without that, there's a limited amount she can ask him.

Groot has posed:
Well, at least yes/no questions seemed to be working fairly well. Groot slowly nods, half-bowing with his affirmative answer of, "I am Groot." He could be offering a speech on the meaning of life, and while it was clear he wasn't just repeating himself exactly, the particulars of the language were unfortunately lost. At least he seemed friendly, at least to Kara.

Kara Danvers has posed:
He does, at that. "Hmm. I wonder if they might have something to help." Supergirl gets an idea. She moves to stand, and gives a smile back to Groot. "I'm going to see if I can find any sort of translation assistance, Groot. If I can, I'll be back. In any case, be safe, and enjoy Earth!" she offers to him, before shifting to hover slightly off the ground, preparing to fly off.

Groot has posed:
Groot also stands, retracting the chair's hard vines into his body. He raises a hand and smiles at his new friend, giving her a friendly, "I am Groot," as parting words. That's...yeah, that's just about par for the course, really, but he does seem to like Kara, and at least she's got a flower, now. Flowers are nice.
