Slices with the Snikt
Date of Scene: 14 May 2022
Location: The Ultimate Slice
Synopsis: Gabby and Damian have pizza! And a riot. Literally. Damian has the feels and runs away.
Cast of Characters: Gabby Kinney, Damian Wayne

Gabby Kinney has posed:
A quick text sent off to Damian invites him out for pizza. Who doesn't like pizza? Especially people their age. There's only one 'good' pizza place in Gotham so it's the Ultimate Slice that she suggests. Given it's daytime it's casual, non-vigilante meeting, and Gabby has dressed accordingly. Though she wasn't exactly a fashion diva (read: Not in the least), she was wearing something kind of nice. A skirt decorated with cartoon cats was worn over leggings, and a t-shirt with a diagram of 'how to pet a cat'. It wasn't much but she was TRYING. The only nicer thing she had were some high end dresses from years ago when she would go to the Hellfire Club with her ex. Not exactly 'pizza hangout' attire.

She's already waiting for Damian having snagged a booth away from the windows as much as possible. After the recent paparazzi blowup over Tim and Phoebe she was doing her solid best to avoid anything similar. Which might explain the only really fancy thing she was wearing: A pair of Gavinchy sunglasses which were probably knock offs. She DID spend time in New York after all.

Damian Wayne has posed:
Unfortunately for Gabby, if she is looking to spend a low-key afternoon hanging out at a pizza joint she is about to be disappointed. Three jet black Ford Expeditions with completely blacked out windows pull up to the curb outside of The Ultimate Slice. A driver remains in each vehicle. Several black-suited, sunglass-wearing, serious-looking security agents get out of the vehicles and immediately begin reconnoitering the area. Two of the agents enter The Ultimate Slice. One heads to check the restrooms and the second moves over to where Gabby sits.

"Miss Kinney, good afternoon, ma'am," the man says to Gabby in a polite, clipped tone. "I'm Alex from Mr. Wayne's security detail. Ma'am, could I please relocate you to this booth over here in the far corner?" He gestures with his arm to indicate the isolated booth, and without waiting for her to agree he starts to pick up anything on Gabby's table to move it into the corner.

While this is going on, one of the agents opens the back door of the middle vehicle and Damian exits. He is wearing slacks, a white button-up shirt, and black leather shoes. He is recognized by some of the kids hanging out nearby. One tween girl shouts "I LOVE YOU, DAMIAN WAYNE!" Damian glances in her direction cooly, but he lacks the social graces to acknowledge her. He enters The Ultimate Slice and moves over to where Gabby is. "Hey, Gabby," he says. He isn't smiling or appearing to be very pleased. Gabby might already know him well enough to know that this sort of social facade is very draining to him, which is largely why he rarely leaves the Wayne Estate. It's actually a significant indicator of how much he likes Gabby that he even agreed to show up here.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney had braced herself for the potential of bodyguards this time. She thought she had braced herself. The sort of security she was used to was more subtle than this though so she just sits awkwardly while the bodyguards and security detail do their check, and when she's asked to move she just nods. "Sure thing!" She gets up from the booth and moves to the one indicated slipping into the seat and waiting with her hands on the tabletop doing her utmost not to put her elbows on the table. Was that still a thing?

When Damian arrives she smiles at him warmly in spite of his apparent tension. A single deep breath is drawn, and let out slowly. "Hey, good to see you, Damian. Sorry for..." There's a pause as her eyes skim over the room, and she realizes it's a little darker in this corner. Reaching up she pulls her shades off with a chuckle. Keeping her voice low she remarks, "I guess if we keep meeting in public I'm going to have to come up with a suitable backstory for how we met. Sorry to put you through so much trouble on my account."

Damian Wayne has posed:
The teen heir slides into the booth. All but one of the agents go outside. Alex remains, positioning himself standing with his back to a wall somewhat close to the booth where Gabby and Damian are seated, hands clasped in front of him professionally, with watchful eyes scanning the room.

A shrug from Damian. "It's okay. Alfred hates this place, which means the pizza is probably amazing," he quips. "I'm..." Damian starts, but he's no good at this sort of thing so he just lets the thought trail off unspoken.

"What should we eat?" he asks. "What's good here." The young billionaire looks like he has so much more to say than that, but he doesn't know how.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney fidgets a little when Alex lingers nearby though she does her utmost best to ignore him after al the reassurance that Bart and Emiko had given her about their professionalism. "It's the best in Gotham," she agrees with a solemn nod. "Not the same as in New York, but still good. I usually get cheese or pepperoni, pretty classic. Though they do this buffalo chicken slice that's pretty great, too, if you're feeling a bit more adventurous."

A deeper breath is drawn as she contemplates, and then blurts out, "I guess I just feel a bit overwhelmed with everything. I mean I know we met due to the animal charity work but compared to you and the others I'm pretty much a nobody. I feel like I might ruin your reputation or something."

This is all said for Alex's benefit though, and her fidgeting fingers pause with one hand cupped around her fist which was pointing in his direction to indicate that. It was a plausible excuse that she had decided to run with for now. And now that she had at least set up the basis for... something... She feels a bit more at-ease and offers him a smile.

Beneath the table she lightly bumps his ankle with the toe of her shoe. Not to hurt, but just a little nudge. Likely if she'd been seated next to him she might have just given a gentle elbow. "Next time you get to choose what we do, okay? Probably easier to work out with your schedule that way."

Damian Wayne has posed:
Damian's gaze catches Gabby's gesture then shifts over to where Alex is standing. "Gabby," he says aloud, "After we eat, let's get out of here. I have some baseball bats and shotguns and I'm going to go murder some homeless people over in the Narrows. It's pretty much the only thing that relieves stress for me anymore."

Alex doesn't so much as twitch or fidget. He is part of an extremely highly paid team of ultra-elite security personnel who protect wealthy, high-profile clients. The team's *only* concern is the safety of the client, and literally nothing else.

The teen shrugs. "He doesn't care what we say or who you are, Gabby. I know it's probably a big culture shock to you, but believe me after a while your brain just tunes them out like they're not even there. Give it some time. Father won't allow me to travel without them."

He sits there quietly for several moments more watching Gabby, saying with his expression and body language what he can't with his words. He even manages something smile-like on his face. "I put my life in your hands. Order whatever you want us to eat."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
It's a good thing that Gabby had only reached for her glass of water on the table when he states that. If she'd already had a drink she would have likely choked on it. For a moment her green eyes fixate on him like a deer caught in headlights as a myriad of confusion and shock runs over her--Then she rolls her eyes upwards with a snort of laughter. "Oh my god that's awful!" She blurts out clapping her free hand over her mouth as she slumps forward trying to regain her composure.

"Fine, fine, I get it. Yeah it is a bit but I'll manage. So, right then." Lightly she clears her throat and reaches for the paper menu that you could just write on to select your slices. "Buffalo chicken it is! And it won't kill you. Unless you're vegetarian or don't like spicy food. I mean. Much as buffalo sauce can be spicy. I have a high tolerance."

Grinning again she starts to wriggle out of the booth to go place the order. This was one of those 'walk up to the counter' sorts after all. "Whatcha want to drink? I'll go snag it."

Damian Wayne has posed:
"Water, please," Damian responds, watching Gabby go. "I was just joking about the homeless thing," he says to Alex. "Of course, sir," the agent replied, giving Damian a *look* that might (correctly) lead one to believe that he has been protecting the young man for a long time.

Damian looks over at the window and is surprised to see a small crowd of about a dozen people gathering outside. They seem a little riled up over something. "What's going on out there, Alex?" Damian asks his bodyguard.

"Protestors, Mr. Wayne," the agent replies, glancing outside. "It's part of the group that is demanding that Wayne Enterprises pay to clean up the Narrows. If it gets to be too much, we're going to have to clear you and Miss Kinney out of here."

Impulsively, Damian stands up. "I want to go talk to them."

Alex immediately moves to physically block Damian. "Mr. Wayne, absolutely not."

A frown forms on the teen's face. He is not accustomed to being manhandled. "But I want to know what their position is so that mayb..."

"Sir, this isn't something that we discuss," Alex says, putting his hands on Damian's shoulders and guiding him back to the booth. Curiously, Damian complies without further complaint.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
It was hard not to notice a rather large collective of people outside such as that. By the time Gabby has grabbed the tray with slices and the drinks, her attention has shifted that way as well. Stepping past Alex she frowns with concern asking, "Everything all right?" Surely it was just... well. Something. She'd seen her share of mutant protests after all, enough to recognize when a crowd might be getting rowdy.

"I didn't realize there was a protest going on when I suggested this place." She looks back out, frowning a little. "I mean. I've been in a few in the past, mutant rights issues, and..." She pauses setting the tray down on the table. The bottle of water she'd got for Damian is taken off to place on front of him, and she gestures to the plates with slices as she grabs her can of soda.

"Fancy cars never do well around protestors."

Damian Wayne has posed:
With Alex back in place at his post against the wall, Damian seems to have successfully tuned out the protestors outside. There's one constant to being a member of the Wayne Family: half the people love you and half the people hate you.

Damian opens the water. "Thank you," he says to Gabby. "This smells really good." He takes a long, long drink of water, draining more than half the bottle. Then he picks up a slice of pizza and takes a bite. The noises he makes as he crews seem to indicate his approval. "Oh man, this *is* amazing, Gabby."

After eating a bit more of the pizza slice, he wipes his mouth and looks at Gabby. "How have you been this past week? I haven't seen you...you know...at work."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney picks up her slice which she instinctively starts to fold. It doesn't work so well with the loaded crusty slice, and she corrects herself before she makes a mess of it. Jersey Pizza was slightly different than New York and she was still a newbie to Jersey. Gotham in particular.

"I know, right?" She grins toward Damian's approval of the slice and takes a bite herself, quickly grabbing a napkin to keep from getting too much sauce around her lips. Before she responds she finishes gulping the bite down, and takes a quick sip of her root beer to wash it down.

"Yeah, I was catching up with some family. Had an early birthday gift from my older sister. I can show you later I think you'll get a kick out of it." She pauses, regarding him a moment. "How about you? Doing good?"

Damian Wayne has posed:
Damian draws in a deep breath through his nose as he looks upward in contemplation. "There was...a complication at work. Everything is fine now. We can talk later about it when we have some privacy."

Outside, two police patrol cars pull up. A few moments after that, two officers of the GCPD mounted patrol arrive on horseback. They are there *just* in case the legal, peaceful protest takes an ill turn. It wouldn't do for one of the children of Gotham's favorite son to get hurt.

A small frown appears on Damian's face. "I'm really sorry about all of this, Gabby," he says genuinely. "It's challenging for me to go places. It's just...the price of admission for being a Wayne. I'd understand if you didn't want to go anywhere with me again."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
"It's okay. We can leave if we need to." Gabby looks out the window again with a small frown of thought at it. "I don't know how protests go here in Gotham, but they tend to get rowdy in New York. And usually the police don't bother to show up at first," she adds with a gesture to one of the horse riding GCPD outside.

"We could, uh, get this to go?" She suggests glancing down at her plate with a frown. So much for doing something normal! It had been an attempt at least.

Damian Wayne has posed:
Normal is an unrealistic expectation with it comes to being out in public with Damian. Seemingly having lost his appetite, he idly pushes the half-finished slice of pizza around with one finger. "I should go," he says, getting up from the booth. "I made a mess of all this for you. Like I make a mess of pretty much everything. We should probably take some time and figure out whether hanging out together is a good idea." He looks down, unable to make eye contact. "I'm really sorry, Gabby."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney blinks up at Damian when he rises looking so forlorn. She lets her eyes widen, and states in a theatrical amount of shock, "You mean you *can't* control everyone else in the world to make things perfect? Gasp. Shock. I'm moritified." She actually says 'gasp' as a word, and cracks a smile toward him.

Before he can run off completely she reaches out to snag hold of his hand giving it a quick squeeze. "Hey. I'll be around, okay? You've got my number."

Damian Wayne has posed:
Damian quickly withdraws his hand from the touch, still looking down. His ears and cheeks are red and he looks, well, like a teenage boy who has never learned to build bridges, but only how to burn them. He's suddenly so full of anger. "I'm ready to go, Alex," he says as he starts to walk quickly for the door. The security agent gives a brief, sympathetic look toward Gabby, then follows the son of his wealthy, influential employer out to the cars.
