Cast of Characters: Divine, Arthur Curry

Divine has posed:
There had been a lot of soul searching happening in Divine's life. Though perhaps that wasn't the correct term. She wasn't sure she had one of those. Being a clone brought up a lot of questions normal people didn't have to deal with. Yet, she was doing her best. Even had a friend now who was trying to teach her more about the outside world and how to better fit into it.

Morality was still an issue. She did things she understood were the right thing to do, at times. She also did wrong things. But she didn't really get why it mattered either way. That level of depth hadn't been achieved yet in the quest for who is Divine.

Today she found herself out by the East River. Sitting on a picnic table, feet on the bench area of it. She was dressed in her usual black pants and boots though she actually had added a black t-shirt over the bikini top she tended to wear.

Her eyes were focused on the water and the setting sun reflected there. It was pretty. Despite being in the middle of a busy city and having seen better days before human beings decided the river was a perfect place for waste. Though there had been laws put in place to limit it, that was too little too late honestly.

Arthur Curry has posed:
    "Hey you!"
A voice breaks the reverie as Divine sits upon that bench considering the river and the water. The soul and free will. Life, the Universe, and Everything. But it's a sharp voice that intrudes and insists upon itself being present there in the moment of her reflection.
For it is Arthur Curry, some ways down the sidewalk that leads to the bench where she's seated and contemplating. His hands are on his hips, though one extends out to point at her. "You thought I wouldn't remember or catch up to you. Well hah!"
For she has earned the ire of the Prince of Atlantis! Or one of them at least.

Divine has posed:
The voice is familiar. Though she's not sure why. Divine turns her head to the side, tracking the location of the man speaking. She'd seen him previously. When she was fresh outside the lab. There had been some sort of drone attack.

"It's about time," she said in a tone as though he were perhaps a little slow to have taken so long to find her. Not that she'd actually been spending time near the docks or Justice League headquarters.

"Though you don't really have to thank me for saving your ass. It was mutually beneficial."

Arthur Curry has posed:
"No offense, kid. But you aren't exactly my top priority. Or anyone's it seems." Ouch-ville, population you! But he stands there hands on his hips, expression stern and oh so severe. "Things were a little hectic back then, I didn't have time to keep an eye on a... what are you... yet another Kryptonian? Didn't have time to keep an eye on yet another Kyptonian who suddenly decided to engage in sneak-thievery."
    That'll show her.
Then he straightens up, "You know, for an extinct people you guys seem to be doing a good job at repopulation." Grr. Take that Kal-El wherever you are, he knows you're probably listening in.
Then back to Divine, "You got three minutes to explain yourself."

Divine has posed:
There is a moment of confusion. Sneak thievery. She didn't think she'd been that sneaky about it. She had certainly snuck up on the scene of the conflict, trying to evaluate before getting involved. But Arthur had it well in hand. So she'd opted to pick up a few items she knew she could hock on the black market to give her some money for the week.

She considered him as he gave her three minutes to explain, after insulting her. Repeatedly. "I don't owe you any explanations."

And she could almost imagine that LOOK she'd be getting from her friend. If he saw how she was dealing with this. She sighed as she stood up on the bench then stepped off to drop to the ground. Then she turned to face him. "Kryptonians are extinct. The best they can do is make copies, like me. There is no chance for them to ever repopulate, so you don't need to have your panties in a wad. What would you have done with the drones? Destroyed them? Turned them over to the police? I was able to sell some of those parts. Cause that's what happens when you're a clone and not a real person. You don't have all that shit needed to get a real job. So you get jobs under the table or you steal so you can keep a roof over your head and food in your stomach."

She stood to her full height and gave him a look. "So fuck off, fish boy."

Arthur Curry has posed:
"Ah..." Arthur listens and despite doing it with some bite to he words, she actually does explain it to him in the space of the alloted time. Which lets him nod along as he listens, gauging her response and curiously enough the truth of her words when under duress. Which... she's being pretty truthful.
    As far as he knows.
"You dumb bastard." He says as he shakes his head, hands still on his hips. No real venom in those words, but said as if to show that he doesn't care if she takes umbrage. Though he means none. "You need food and shelter so you decide to take everything you are and steal some shit."
Another shake of his head then he looks down, chewing on his lower lip in thought before he squints one eye as he looks back up. "So clone, huh? Any idea who did the cloning?" First thing's first.

Divine has posed:
She isn't sure if she's dumb. It's possible. She knows she's a bastard so that isn't really something to be offended by. Although maybe not a bastard since she was cloned. Certainly her parents weren't married. Though she only knew the Kryptonian side she was cloned from. Likely there was some human in there too. Divine wasn't a scientist. She didn't understand it all.

"I know where the lab was. No idea who did it. I'd know a face if I saw it again." She gave a shrug as she thought back. "There were two of us. The other was considered a failure for some reason. Don't know why. I know that there is some sort of hostility in me toward other Kryptonians. Built in. A need to beat them and prove myself." She frowned and crossed her arms. "So I try to avoid them. Until I figure out what's going on. Although a friend suggested that I reach out and let them know I exist."

Arthur Curry has posed:
Shaking his head, it takes a little bit of time to get his thoughts wrapped around what these various things he's learned have changed and what they might entail for the person who is apparently a clonoid. He tilts his head to the side, then lifts a hand to rub thumb and forefinger at his temples as if he could feel the headache setting in.
"Alright." A beat, "Alright. First thing's first." He gestures to the side and motions toward the city and away from the beach. "We'll go get something to eat. People think better on a full stomach." Then he nods, "After that you're gonna tell me all the stuff you know about what happened to you and who is responsible. Then we'll figure out from there?"
At a sign of opposition he says, "Look it's this way or I beat yer butt and we end up getting to eat after. One way or the other though..."

Divine has posed:
And at that challenge, Divine smiled. She uncrossed her arms. Then rolled her head around, a crack sound coming from her neck in the process. "Sounds like fun. Don't break buildings. The cops don't like that." Not because it was wrong. Just cause the police didn't like it. That sort of summed up her moral compass.

Sometime later...

The fast food place was one of those Mom & Pop type shops. Not very big. Mismatched furniture. But it was stupposed to have the best burgers in the neighborhood. Divine picked up her burger to take a bite. She looked a little worse for wear. Dirt on her clothes. A few tears in the shirt and jeans. Scratches. A few bruises. They'd heal up in a couple of hours but the Atlantean had proven to be one helluva fighter. She was impressed. And had decided she liked him. She washed down the bite of burger with a sip of beer. "They wanted to know what made Kryptonians tick. So they used me to experiment on after making me. Which I went along with, for a while. Then I got fed up. I wanted to leave. When I got the chance, I escaped. Came to New York. Found that I have no clue what is going on with people. I just try to stay under the radar cause I don't want to go back."

Arthur Curry has posed:
Arthur came out clothes-wise a little worse for wear. His favorite wallet-chain was busted and his leather vest was torn, leaving him with just his grey hemp shirt and blue jeans as well as those big brown work boots on his feet. There were some bruises and a smudge of blood in his beard that he'd probably notice later, but for now...
    The kid's alright.
"So where's the lab? I'll get it run down by some of the brain guys in the league." He rubs at his jaw a little even as he's shifting his grip on his burger then takes a big bite. A small drizzle of pickle juice sneaks down the other side of his beard as he chews and chews, swallows, then nods.
"And could get J'onn to get a look at your brain to see if you've been conditioned as you think. I mean, could just be you're a jerk and could be your own opinion." A beat as he grabs a fry and dabs it in the ketchup, then bites that too. Around it he murmurs, "Though, to be fair, Superman's a decent guy. The others I've met are..." He waggles a hand, likely including Zod in that group too.

Divine has posed:
"Can't say. I can show someone. But that would put me back in their range potentially. It's in the arctic but not like I was given coordinates." Divine set down her burger and grabbed an onion ring, slathering it in the pile of ketchup she'd deposited onto her plate. They were those good onion rings with a balance of the sweet onion inside breading. She popped it into her mouth, biting off half and chewing thoughtfully.

"I've seen some of them on tv." The Kryptonians that is. "They've seemed okay. I understand there were some bad ones but never saw them on the news recently." Which is apparently where she is getting her info on her relatives. "I get the urge to go find them and punch them in the face."

She did grin a bit as she picked up her soda to sip through the straw, before she spoke again. "You might be right though. I do like to fight. To prove how good I am. I'm competitive. But, I usually don't feel like punching other heroes in the face when I see them on tv."

Arthur Curry has posed:
"I do, sometimes." Arthur admits as he nods a little, leaning to the side and propping a boot up on the seat next to him. He gestures with one french fry in Divine's direction as he adds, "Like those Avengers guys, some of them are real pricks."
At that he gives a single sharp nod, then eats the fry. After a few moments he takes a sip of his soda then murmurs, "So alright, I can understand not wanting to meet up with any of the others in the cape crowd. But... I don't know, you have a phone? Text them. Just let them know. Superman's alright, he won't mess with you unless you need messing with."

Divine has posed:
"Yeah, a friend suggested that I reach out too. Just not sure how to do that. I mean, not like I've found Superman's cellphone number listed online," she adds with a little grin as she picks up her burger again. But she keeps talking before she takes the next bite, holding the burger in her hands as she speaks.

"I'd be willing to meet them. I just want them to know the situation. Even this J'onn. Though not sure what I think about people poking in my brain. Kind of a weird thing to think about." She considers a moment and shakes her head. "If Superman or Power Girl or whoever wanted to meet, I just don't know if I might haul off and try to smack the smile off their face. I'd like to think I wouldn't but..." She takes a bite of her burger again.

Arthur Curry has posed:
"That would be a recipe for a mess." Arthur looks reflective for a time as he considers the space behind Divine, eyes unfocused and distant. Then he shakes his head, "If it comes down to it you can pass something on to me and I can see he gets it. Though I wouldn't want that to become a habit." He point at her as if warning her.
"But glad to hear you're not stealing as much anymore. You should be able to get a job easy enough." A glance is given to the side then he crinkles his nose. "Though you'd need to get documents and whatnot. Maybe you could go talk to Reed Richards. Or Tony Stark?"
Arthur inclines an eyebrow, "Since the fact you exist might be interesting to you and they could go the extra mile to help you if only so you'd be more accessible to them."

Divine has posed:
"They're heroes too, right?" She's seen them on the feeds. Headlines here or there. Videos on youtube. Divine does give a nod. "I dont' want to end up in a cage to be poked and prodded though. They usually give people false papers? Cause when I've tried to get a job they want an ID of some sort and social security. I have none of that for obvious reasons. If they would help me with it, that'd be great. I could see about getting more regular work." Since that is what people were supposed to do. She'd been told.

"If you would be willing to give my number to him. Let him know he can text me or something if he wants to try to figure things out. Otherwise, I'll try to leave them alone. I don't know if they might be in danger from the place that made me, after all."

Arthur Curry has posed:
Another bite of the burger is taken then he murmurs, "Alright." He chews and swallows as he tilts his head back then sets the burger down. "I'll give them your number and then will see what we can see."
That said he takes a deep breath then starts to tie his hair back as he pulls an elastic from around his wrist. Once that's settled he gives a nod. "So how's the food, alright? If you hate it then we're gonna fight again." Since then she'd totally deserve it.

Divine has posed:
If there is one thing he probably should've figured out already from this single day how much she likes to fight. Which is why her response is what it is.

There's a brief snort from Divine as she grinned at him over her burger. "Aww, don't be a tease."
