Synopsis: America comes across Keli Quintela and, after learning a thing or two about the young Latern, recruits her to the group she's thinking of forming.
Cast of Characters: Keli Quintela, America Chavez

Keli Quintela has posed:
Keli has decided that the easiest way to get pieces to tinker with and get back by curfew is to head to the local scrapyard. It's not as good as some of the ones closer to the city, and the ones in the Gotham are the /very/ best, but it's closer, so she has more time to pick over the piles.

So that's where she is on a Friday afternoon after finals are done, combing through a stack of junk, looking for pieces for a summer project she's hoping will keep her busy. Nothing's quite going the way she intended. Sure, she's at a really cool high school learning great things, and sure, she's joined GIRL, but none of that's really led to any... heroics. Aside from sort-of saving the GIRL Expo HQ from lava, she's barely done /anything/ with the gauntlet, and it's bothering her. She's supposed to be a Green Lantern! She's supposed to be /helping/ people!

Maybe she should just go to the Hall of Justice and apply for a summer internship? They do that, right?

America Chavez has posed:
Sometimes America shows up where she's needed. And sometimes she just goes for a stroll and lets her feet take her. The Starling Highway has it's own set of rules and she doesn't really mess with them, it's given her no reason to try so far and she appreciates that.

There is the sound of impact and start shaped portal opens up in reality a few feet from the pile Keli is working on. The dark haired, dark skinned, star-spangled young woman steps out onto the hard packed earth and blinks. "A scrap yard?" she says, looking back at the portal.

"What the hell am I doing at a scrap ya--?" She turns her attention to the younger girl digging through the junk and blinks. "Hi there" she says in greeting. She's friendly enough even if her expression is confused. Not every day you find a kid digging through electronics and metal. "Looking for something specific?" she asks. The incredulity in her tone is not masked at all.

Keli Quintela has posed:
Keli looks up at the portal and yelps, right hand raising almost instinctively, bringing up a bright green shield. Which is pretty obvious, as far as those things go. Green Lantern tech, even if it's... really kind of strange.

She blinks rapidly at America and then her whole countenance changes. She lowers the gauntlet, makes the shield disappear. "Dios mia, Miss America?! Oh, wow, what an honor!" Clearly she recognizes the outfit. Or maybe the portals? "I'm a /huge/ fan. What're you doing here in the scrapyard?" It's a reasonable question, both times.

America Chavez has posed:
"That's why I'd like to know, chica" America says. She shakes her head and waves her hand, the portal closing up as easily as it appeared. "I mean, I was just strolling along as I usually do when there's nothing immediately pressing to get to and felt a ripple here." She peers at the gauntlet and the Green Lantern tech effect. "You've got a ring?" she asks. "That would explain the ripple. That's pretty damn cool." She smiles, her apprehension and incredulity dropping.

She holds up a hand, realizing her comment might come off a bit insensitive. At least, to her when she was younger, it would have. "Sorry. It's impressive. Really. More... cyberpunk than I would expect outta the Corps, but nothing wrong with that. Are you working on an entire suit or...?" she peers around the scrap yard one dark eyebrow arching inquisitively.

Keli Quintela has posed:
"Nooooot a ring /exactly/," Keli hedges. "I mean, I'm not an /official/ member of the Corps or anything. Just, umm. Kind of. Honorary?" Not really honorary, Keli. "I found the gauntlet, I've been working on it, refining it... trying to find a good use for it. You know, heroic stuff." She shrugs.

"It's pretty well upgraded for the moment... I'm looking for pieces for a robotics project. Something to keep me busy over the summer, you know? Since the whole hero thing isn't... well. Not much heroing to be done right now."

America Chavez has posed:
America blinks. "What are you talking about there's plenty of heroing to be done... you just have to find it to do it" she says with a smile. "Though... you are a bit on the young side for night patrols. What are you, 15? 16?"

She steps closer to get a closer look at the gauntlet. "So... wait, you don't have ring? You have an entire gauntlet? That -is- pretty damn cool!" She sounds genuinely excited now. "And in your spare time you build robots?" she shakes her head. "Schools must've really expanded their curriculum from the time I was in them." She folds her arms and ponders. "What sort of robot?"

Keli Quintela has posed:
Keli shakes her head. "No, I mean... I'm not really part of a group or anything? Well, GIRL, but that's not really a /hero/ group. And I don't know where to... I mean, there's lots of hereos already, y'know? Nobody seems to need... me." She shrugs. "Besides Nadia and GIRL, I mean."

She shrugs and grins. "Oh, I didn't learn robotics in school. I just kinda picked it up. Happy Harbor teaches some of that, but nowhere in La Paz. I made a robot to help my abuela, and... stuff like that. I dunno, maybe someday I could make something as great as Red Tornado or Vision, but..."

America Chavez has posed:
America's expression grows thoughtful for a moment. "Do you want a super group?" she asks. "A place to call home, that goes out there and... well.. fight's the good fight?" she asks. Her gaze travels over the young girl. "You've got a lot of potential and as a Latern, connected or not, you're possibly one the most powerful individuals in the galaxy and... I might have a place for someone like that."

She smiles. "Not that I'm going to twist your arm. If you're happy just being a school student and working on various robots in labs that's cool too..." he tone says she knows the girl's reaction but she wants to hear it all the same.

Keli Quintela has posed:
Keli blinks at America rapidly. "Me, one of the most powerful... umm... I did say /Teen/ Lantern, right? Like. I really ought to be a normal Green Lantern's sidekick or something. I'm not /that/ powerful."

A pause, and then, slowly, "...But you're saying you have a supergroup? Or are you /making/ a super group?" More rapidly, "Are you asking me to join your super group? Like, as the first member?"

Then she laughs. "Ayyyy, naah, that's silly. You wouldn't be doing that."

America Chavez has posed:
America's arched brow is filled with equal parts snark and confidence. "Oh? And if I was?" she asks, placing a hand on her hip. "Look chica, you got spunk, you got Power with a capital P, and you got skill. Teen Latern or Adult, your power is through the roof... especially if you unlocked that think on your hand from the Oan network." She scowls. "Bunch of Imperialist bastards if you ask me... but that's neither here nor there..."

"I want you on the team and I am offering you a position on the ground floor. As the first one I go to, yeah" she asks, with a brighter and more friendly smile. "Name is still in the air. Titans NYC seems a bit derivative, Young Avengers is also derivative but has more... clout to it given the area we'll be claiming as our stomping grounds. Still need to talk to them too... but it's a start."

Keli Quintela has posed:
"I'm not ever sure it was on a... network." Keli blinks at America. "I don't, umm... 'Oan?' What's that? Is that a Green Lantern thing? I... feel like I should probably know what that is."

Then she shakes herself. "Young Avengers sounds cooler, I gotta admit. Not that the Titans aren't cool! 'Titans NYC' doesn't have /quite/ the ring. But, I mean, that'd be cool too."

She grins. "Yes, by the way. I'm saying yes. Absolutely."

America Chavez has posed:
America claps her hands together. "-Fantastica!-" she says puching the air with a burst of blue sparks that don't entirely materialize into a star portal. "We're going to have a lot of fun, I promise. And I think we can learn you a thing or two about the Oans. Enough to keep you safe and uncorrupted..." She nods though. "It is a Lantern thing... for most -the- Latern thing. Which is why you're so far ahead of the curve that it makes you all the better."

She pauses and looks at the gauntlet. "What all -can- you do with it? Just so I have a baseline of your skills" she asks, cocking her head to one side curiously.

Keli Quintela has posed:
Keli grins. "Okay well... so far, I can, like... summon up constructs of green energy, and I can fly, although I'm getting used to it. It's easier when I make this robot thing..."
