A Meeting of minds
Date of Scene: 14 April 2020
Location: Alexis' and Sam's Studio Apartment.
Synopsis: And jean gives Alexis the thumbs up.
Cast of Characters: Samuel Guthrie, Alexis Carr, Jean Grey

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie has asked Jean to come out to the apartment. He told Jean that Alexis is important person to him and would like her to clear her for a possible visit to the school, specially since he has introduced her to alot of his friends so far. He would have told Alexis, he would have Jean come out to talk to her, about basiclly security screening for the School. He would have warned her, that Jean is a telepath, and made sure Jean knew he was going to tell her that.

Alexis Carr has posed:
Alexis had been more closed off and quiet after meeting with Emma Frost and Alex Summers, and had reluctantly agreed to meet Jean, knowing that she was a psychic.

So, appointed day, appointed time, there was a small, round coffee table set up with tea service. Teapot, teacups overturned, little cookies set up, proper sugar cubes, little pot of milk for the tea, and a very nervous looking Alexis, her hair pulled back, wearing a gray cardigan over a white shirt and well fitted blue-jeans, walking around in her socks.

Jean Grey has posed:
There's a knock on the studio door, and Jean's standing there, wearing a forest green mock turtleneck and canary yellow scarf. She has a pair of comfortable looking denim jeans on as well, in addition to white sneakers. Apparently opting out of heels right now as she smiles a bit, after she's (presumably) allowed in. "Hello Sam, and you must be Alexis? I'm Jean Grey." Her smile is warm, and she has the expected number of limbs. Really, she looks positively ordinary, in most ways.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie smiles and does let her in. Sam is a bit more casual dressed but he knows both ladies and comfortable with this. "Thanks Jean, this is my lovely talented girl friend. She is going by Alexis here and now. Thanks for coming "Alexis, hon this is Jean Grey, she is helping running the school now, and is someone I trust totally.'

Alexis Carr has posed:
"How do you do, Miss Grey? It's a pleasure to meet your acquaintence." Alexis gives a smile, but nervously does not extend a hand.

Mostly because her hands are uncomfortably warm, because the longer she's had to think about her last meeting with a psychic, the less she's been inclined to meet with one.

"Please, won't you have a seat? I apologize for the meager offering, I'm afraid I've been somewhat feeling the pinch as it were. I'm certain Sam's told you of the circumstances."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean nods slightly, "Of course, and it's no problem Alexis. But please, call me Jean." She smiles and takes a seat, giving Sam a warm smile, then looking over at Alexis, "It doesn't take a psychic to see that you're nervous."

She keeps her hands on her lap, looking very non-threatening there and intentionally taking that posture as she regards Alexis, "Did you want to know a little bit more about me? Just to make you feel at ease?" Her head tilts a bit, as she regards Alexis, then she chuckles, "I'm sure Sam has heard some of my story, but it might make you feel a little better."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods, and says "Jean is one of the people who taught me the manners a telepath should follow, as well, as her teacher was my teacher as well, about how to guard your thoughts so of the things I was telling you about. he will move to put an arm around Alexis, and rubs her back trying to help reassure her.

Alexis Carr has posed:
Alexis sits herself, and gives a breath out, looking to Sam a she rubs her back, and then back to Jean.

"... I grew up on stories that mutants with psychic powers would force people to act a certain way for their own benefit, mesmerizing entire theaters full of people to make them think they were something, or someone, they are not." she explains, "This is a little bit like meeting the boogeyman and finding out they're utterly normal. Tea?"

Alexis Carr has posed:
"And... whatever you feel comfortable sharing, Jean. I'm sorry." Alexis adds on quietly.

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean smiles, "Please. Honey if you have it. And yes, I'm well aware of the fears people have. And it's... understandable." She nods at Alexis, "A psychic that is powerful enough, and unethical enough, can be terrifying. However, as Sam said, I have a very strict standard of conduct."

She looks over at Alexis, "My powers actually first manifested when I was ten... a bit early, really. But it was..." She pauses, then coughs, "Well, my best friend died in front of me, and my thoughts were linking with hers from the trauma of seeing it. It took a while before I learned to focus my powers... or even talk to people in a normal fashion again. I have the Professor to thank for that, and my training. I was his first student at the Institute, and I've pretty much been there ever since."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie will move to get the ladies Tea. He helps the ladies since they are talking and once both ladies have a cup of tea. He will go to the fridge and get some real tea for himself, not that hot stuff for him. He sits back down and says "Jean as she said was one of the first, and the professor's help not only allowed her to be responsible, but it also allowed her to live more in normal society, being responsible with her powers."

Alexis Carr has posed:
"Sam, while you're grabbing your sugar-syrup, would you please grab the honey?" Alexis inquires and Jean may find that it is a familiar accusation of who has the real tea around their home. Presuming he does, she allows Jean to sweeten her own tea (in spite of how gauche that is), and she keeps her tea very simple. Black tea with a twist of orange.

"That... must have made for a difficult transition. I can't even imagine, I'm so sorry."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean smiles a little, "Well, it was difficult, but I think I'm come through it alright on the other side." Then, she decides to show off, a little bit, as her spoon stirs the tea properly...

Without being held by anything. Just stirring it around, as Jean gives Alexis a wry expression, "I'm also a telekinetic, in addition to a telepath. I've had quite a bit of practice. But, did you have any other questions for me, Alexis?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie will have his seat back with Alexis after he brought what was asked, even the little cookies. He smiles and says "If either of you need anything let me know as well." He is mostly quiet for now, letting the ladies talk instead of talking himself.

Alexis Carr has posed:
There's a soft sound of amazement, as Alexis's dark eyes drop to the spoon. She watches it for a few turns, marveling at its novel simplicity before turning to Sam, giving a smile and a soft word of thanks before patting his knee -- then turning back to the redhead.

"So... I have surmised, meeting some of the other students at the school, that it sems mainly used for the training and maturation of those with abilities to be able to attain a balanced lifestyle and... hide in plain sight, as it were, is that correct?"

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean smiles, "Basically, yes. We're a private school, to all intents and appearances. But we help people develop their powers, and use them responsibly. Providing a measure of education and security they can't get in the outside world." She gestures a bit around herself, then gives Alexis a smile, sipping from her tea.

"There are a few that elect to have... advanced training, of course. Depending on the situation, and the specific desires and abilities of the student." A bit of a grin at that, "For instance, most of us from the initial class of students stayed on, to help teach those that came after us. I've been doing that, while also working on my psychiatry degree." Of course the telepath is going for that, of course she is.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods, and says "Ah am getting to the point, Ah need to make some of those type of decisions as well. Ah did want to suggest Alexis maybe able to help some as well. She could teach students instruments or even dance, somewhat like Stevie taught us.

Alexis Carr has posed:
"Your manner is well suited to the work, Jean. It's not often that one feels so comfortable around a stranger." Alexis replies quietly -- and then to Sam she purses her lips. "An Ulterior Motive this entire time, Mr. Guthrie?" she states, then turns back to Jean.

"... I /am/ a qualified instructor for multiple instruments and voice, maybe need a little brushing up on American style ballet, but it would be... something I could do. And was considering." she admits.

Quietly though, she pauses, her cup of tea nearly to her lips as she drops her gaze to the table.

"Though having someone who once was terrified of your -- ... of mutants... I'm still coming to terms myself."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean nods, "Of course. And please understand, I don't want to invade your privacy. But it isn't just Sam, or myself even. We have many students that could be... endangered, if certain things were made public." She smiles, "I can tell that you're being honest and sincere, again that's not something you need telepathy for. But, in this case, we have to know for certain."

She chuckles, "And we could use a music teacher, but that's not the reason Sam reached out to us about this. Whenever you're ready, we can begin. It doesn't take very long."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie smiles and leans over to kiss Alexis' cheek. He look over and says tp them "I have told Alexis about some of those who we know have had issues with people cause of being mutants and trying to help protect them.

Alexis Carr has posed:
Alexis looks to sam, and then squeezes his hand. Her hand is unnaturally warm, but she's keeping her composure the best she can in spite of not quite nervousness... but veiled fear.

The fear of rejection was powerful, after all, and she turns back to Jean.

    "At your word, Jean."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean nods, "There might be a small sensation of discomfort, but it will pass quickly." She then concentrates, and Alexis feels Jean inside her head, a second echo of thoughts that seem to be Alexis' but are clearly not, even though it's talking with her voice.

<< Hello, Alexis. If you'll open your mind for me? >> She asks politely, but there's a definite impression of //power// there, that if she wanted to, she could break through the meager defenses without an issue.

However, she waits, the presence waiting most politely at the outskirts of Alexis' psyche, awaiting permission.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie squeezes Jean's hand softly. The young man will hold her hands to give her reassurance. "You should still be fully aware of me and the world here as you have an awareness of her there as well hon." He tells Alexis. Sam watches them, but lets them deal with most of this.

Alexis Carr has posed:
It was an odd sensation, made uncomfortable by the Fear that Alexis -- Allegra Caradenza -- kept buried inside of her. Fear of other mutants. Fear of her own powers. Fear of her father. A hound that nipped at all her thoughts, but after a moment, Allegra thinks of a door. It's a very old door, leading to an old, stone building rising up against the green and gray-heather spotted hills of the English countryside, and the creak of how its centuries-old oak would handle wind as it opens.

And Jean is welcomed into Allegra's mind, as Allegra squeezes Sam's hand.

<< What will you be looking for? >> Allegra thinks.

Jean Grey has posed:
<< Just doing a general check, Allegra. I'm not going to pry too much here. >> She smiles, looking a bit like Mary Poppins in this mindscape as she steps through the door. And just like that, she starts walking along the halls of Allegra's mind, glancing through as she seems to be mainly looking for particular warning signs. Mostly involving hidden knots or fissures, indicating a presence of brainwashing or conditioning...

Manchurian candidates don't get in the door, for obvious reasons. She doesn't dive too deep into memories here, but she is thorough in her check to make sure the school is safe.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie does not ask to join the. No,he and Alexis are close so very close, but he respects her, and her privacy. He will just sit letting the two of the do their thing.

Alexis Carr has posed:
Jean may find herself in a foyer of a school. Busts of classical artsts, paintings of peoplpe on stage or in finery. A grand piano in shining black, with a violin sitting on it, a guitar in the corner. The further she goes along the hall, the more clear the windows become, back to when Allegra had a better idea of who she was. Cracks in the walls. Every memory with Allegra had the domineering visage of her father. Always a hand on her shoulder. Holding her back. In control. Steering. Cracks in the floor as Allegra actively tries to hide memories. 'I don't know how my dress got burned, father! It must have been an accident, too close to the heater maybe?'

Fear sermons, where the faithful gathered to hear about how Mutants are demon-spawn. Being afraid of traveling without her father to protect her.

<<I never wanted to hurt anyone. I hid my power and buried it, hoping it would go away. Like a bad dream. I can hold boiling pots of water, but I'm afraid holding a hand might hurt someone. I spoke at the Geonoshan memorial knowing that Mutants who recognized me might hurt me. Knowing that Pro-HUMANA allies knowing I spoke there would hurt me.I want to use these powers to protect others, so that they don't grow up afraid, like I was. Or have to grow with the powers alone.>>

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean smiles in the mindscape, << I understand, Allegra. And I can't promise you'll ever be rid of the fear. But I can promise that we'll do all we can to teach you, and help you. >> She nods, and says simply in the link.

<< You'll never have to be alone again. >> And she means it, it's perfectly obvious in the link that Jean's connection to the school... it's more than just a school.

    It's family.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie sips his tea, and looks to them. He is curious but again stays silent.

Alexis Carr has posed:
Alexis opens her eyes, and squeezes Sam's hand, turning from Jean Grey, and comments softly:

"I like her, quite a lot."

And turning back to Jean, she states, softly:

"I'm willing to learn and help where I can."
