Cast of Characters: Phoebe Beacon, Gabby Kinney, Laura Kinney

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
There was always plenty of opportunity to get out into the city early in the morning. Phoebe had come from patrolling, and had stopped in at The Roost to pick up Idu. She's been rare around the dorms, but she hasn't said where she's been staying.

Somewwhat because she's still healing, her throat re-wrapped and the gauze covered with that collar with the lace to the top and bottom, making her look fancy, but hiding the injury well.

So she was walking along one of the sidewalks, her breath hanging in the cold, slightly foggy Gotham morning.

Idu trotted next to her, looking very smart in a canine jacket, blue eyes wide open as he snuffs around the pathway. Her earbuds were hanging out, her phone playing music as she walked, taking in the morning.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney had been spending more time in New York lately which left her feeling as if she had abandoned poor Gotham somewhat. All the more reason for her to now come back and visit when she had a free moment or two.

One thing she kept to no matter where she was, were her morning runs. It was one of the habits from the lab she'd always kept up with--Once they were outside, and not on a treadmill, they became a much more freeing event than just regular training.

Wearing leggings and sneakers, and a sporty hoodie that covers down over the back of her hands, she sprints along the familiar paths. It's not long before she sees the back of Phoebe and the more easily recognized from behind Idu. "Good morning!" She calls out cheerily to the pair while starting to slow her pace so she can greet them properly.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe purses her lips a moment, drawing herself up a little as she hears a voice call out to her.

Idu, on the other hand, hops all around, excited to see one of the folks he knows. He gives a warble of a yodel at Gabby, and continues to hop around until Phoebe lets the leash go, so that the red-and-white hound can bolt towards Gabby for affection.

Laura Kinney has posed:
X-23 is also a big fan of early morning exercise routines. But for her it's generally a little something more dramatic than just going for a run. Parkour, extreme climbing or hunting one of her friends or family members.

Just typical X-23 things. The sort which, if Tim were to find out, would cause extremely frustrated sighing. And possibly an ulcer. Okay probably /another/ ulcer.

She doesn't quite reveal herself for now. Part of the point is to train other people on their observation skills. But she does observe from a nearby tree.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney crouches down to meet the boisterous Idu as he ambles over to get all the loves and hugs and doggy kisses. "Oh it's good to see you too, you good boy!" She greets while giving some good side scritches. Her head lifts up to grin at Phoebe as well.

"Thought that was you two. I was just out for my morning run..." she begins to explain before raising her voice, "And Laura is glad to see you too I'm sure," she adds for someone who may be nearby to hear. Her eyes roll over toward the general direction Laura was in only to grin again.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe gives a gentle whistle, and Idu (after his fill of love and hugs and making sure Gabby had no breakfast left on her face, bounds back over to Phoebe. She pauses a moment, lifting her gaze to the tree that Gabby had rolled a gaze to, and she gives a sidelong smile and a nod to the tree.

She retrieves the loop of Idu's leash, and tucks her hands back into her pockets, motioning around with her eyebrows drawn up.

Laura Kinney has posed:
There's a slight rustle in one of the trees. And then Laura drops down from a different tree. Almost as if she'd rigged a branch up with fishing line as a decoy. She does however seem pleased that Gabby has seen through the ruse.

There's a nod of greeting for Balm & Idu. And then she heads over. Not so much walking as an almost feline prowl.

She's wearing her typical out and about street clothes. Yoga pants and a hoodie. Both in charcoal grey. Plus some worn running shoes. Cheap enough she won't mind the inevitable claw damage they'll receive.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
"Laura," Gabby greets once she comes down as well. Reaching up she taps the side of her nose. "I'm still getting used to being able to use this and recognize people by smell, but... we smell the same," She points out with a lopsided grin. "You know you can always come join us and be social, too. It's not always about testing."

None the less she falls into step beside Phoebe and Idu with a grin toward the still-injured woman. She wasn't going to ask any pressing questions that might need a lot of talking. "Good to see you out though Phoebe. Feeling better?"

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe gives a sad smile, and a shake of her head, and motions to her neck again before giving a shrug to Gabby. She rubs the back of her neck a moment, then withdraws from her pocket her phone, and types in:

<Same as it was last time.> she types in, and turns the texting screen to Gabby.

Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney shakes her head. "We don't actually," she corrects. "Smell the same that is. Over time you'll be able to tell us apart. Things like the people we've been around, the food we've eaten and if we've recently fired weapons or been around explosions."

If Gabby really strains there'll be a faint capsaicin hint from Laura which she doesn't have in her own scent.

She tilts her head slightly at Phoebe. Then nods. "If you need someone to listen to your issues.." A shrug. "I don't really care if the world turns against us. I'll always be there for the team."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney glances down to the phone that is offered over to read it rather quickly. A single nod is given, and she reaches out to pat Phoebe on the shoulder consolingly. Normally she would give a hug but she was working on recognizing boundaries better, and Pheobe wasn't the sort you went in for a full on hug with. Usually.

"Sorry. I wish I could help you heal up quicker, but..." She can only shrug helplessly at that. "I mean I could offer a blood transfusion but I don't know if that actually helps heal other people or just... is blood." She'd have to ask Logan about that.

Glancing back toward Laura she narrows her eyes skeptically, and sniffs again... only to narrow them further. "Eugh. I'll never get used to this," she bemoans rolling her head back to peer up at the sky. "I need more practice with it I guess."

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe's smile gives a falter at Laura, but she recognized Laura being right, in regards to all the differences in smells.

She considers a moment, though, and she motions with her head over to a couple of park benches, and makes her way over there to sit and type. Easier to go about things this way.

<One of you eat spicy curry and the other Mexican. V. Obvious.> she types in with an amused smile, but then she adds in:

<Nothing can be done. I'm in the 'finding out' phase. Part of why I didn't come back. RR, NW, ZZ, WB, MeggC tracked me down.>

And she gives a slight smile at the sniffing. And then signs:

    >Do either of you sign?<

Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney seems to be able to follow the typing just fine. Upside down and facing away from her? No issues. Her trained memory and spatial awareness letting her put the words together.

But when Phoebe starts to sign? She looks blank. They didn't train her in sign language. Not even military hand signs (although she knows a few commonly used by the Outsiders). It's not that she doesn't know what Balm is doing. Just that she might as well be speaking Martian.

On the plus side it's probably as good an answer as a positive response.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe gives her 'wet cat' expression. The straight, pressed-together lips, and giving Idu over to Gabby, asking her to take him around (as good as any excuse to get the doggo to stretch his legs), and she exhales.

<So. How have you been?> she types, turning the phone over to Laura even though she doesn't have to read right-side up.

Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney gives Gabby enough time to put some distance between them. "Worried about her," she admits with a nod. "She's getting involved in missions of her own. And I'd rather she didn't turn out like me."

There's a shake of her head. "I know they're not the same sort of missions. But that doesn't mean they all go well. I have.. sources who keep me updated on what's going on."

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe gives a nod, and weighs her thoughts a moment.

<Good head on her shoulders. Prefer it stays there. She's lucky a lot of people like her.> she gives a dry sort of smile. <Not all of our business goes well.>

And she motions to her neck

Laura Kinney has posed:
"True. And while I'm sure they're looking out for her.." Laura says with a narrow smile. "They're not me. But then I get the same way when any of the team go on missions without me."

It's hardly a surprise. She grew up eating bland food, now she eats everything with hot sauce, and she had no control so now she's a control freak.

"Whatever did that. It's been dealt with, right? If not.. Well just let me know." Given Balm's ability to heal that fact it's not already recovered would imply a supernatural threat. And hey if it's still alive maybe dealing with it will help her recover!

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe's head ducks down a little bit, and she raises her shoulders. Oooh, that struck a guilty nerve.

<It has not.> she confirms via text. <Need to track down>

Laura Kinney has posed:
"Give me a call for round two," Laura offers solemnly. "And don't even consider going it alone. If you do I'll be forced to track whatever it is down first and fight it without you." The narrow smile is back. Dry amusement. "Being the lone wolf doesn't suit you."

She frowns.

"I do not really understand that phrase. The lone wolf. Wolves are pack animals... Anyway what I am trying to say.." There's a long pause. "I do not have many friends. And if someone tries to hurt one of them. They will regret it. But not for very long.."

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe gives another Wet Cat expression to Laura, and she draws up one leg, setting her chin on her knee a moment as she closes her eyes a moment, and then she brings her hand up and waggles it back and forth a moment.

And when she opens her eyes, she reaches for her phone.

<Leksandra's demon. Same caused the stairway in the park.>

Laura Kinney has posed:
"Leave me a dossier and I'll start stockpiling suitable weapons," Laura says, nodding to herself. "Holy water, silver from churches and enough explosives that when we're done there won't even be dust left."

Of course. She already has the last of the three. But the mystical stuff? She usually leaves that to her demon hunting sister.

"I can probably put together an explosively formed projectile weapon that'll punch a hole through a tank. With enough preparation there's nothing which can't be dealt with. Not gods or demons." Assuming a priests blessing still counts when the object it's on gets blasted into a liquid metal spike.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
It counts. Phoebe knows. She can make holy water.

Phoebe gives a wry smile back to Laura, and she lets out a breath, and she just, quietly types a moment.

And then she turns the phone over to Laura.

<She doesn't work that way. I should make an announcement>

Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney tilts her head. "I've heard that about a lot of things before," she assures. "It's usually all talk. You tell everyone you can't be hurt. Put down a few contenders. Hope no-one else tries again. Alien warlords, demons and angels. Even N.O.W.H.E.R.E tried it. We come from the future and there's nothing you can do to stop us."

She rolls her shoulders.

"Bring the team in. Working together there's nothing which will stop us."
