Special Delivery
Date of Scene: 17 April 2020
Location: Brooklyn, NYC
Synopsis: Novice speedster Kyani makes some mundane deliveries. But is there more to this than meets the eye?
Cast of Characters: Barbara-Ann Minerva, Kyani Kohanna

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
It's a gorgeous day in Brooklyn. The sidewalks are cluttered with energetic pedestrians -- skater gurls, beard aficionados, neo-Marxists -- all headed to their respective niche cultural haunts. Just off the sidewalk, nestled between a mom-and-pop café, and an artisanal bakery, in a well-cared for storefront sits 'BioMax', the neighborhood's newest arrival. This is the place.

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
Mack's Deliveries have been slow, a lot of the buisness has been handled, though nothing major has come in nor requests. For a change Kyani is pretty happy about this. Granted he's had other deliveries to do, but today was a nice relaxing day in the lounge area that he and many otehrs are chillin' in. Some of the guys are playing video games and others are tuning their bikes and cars. So for now it's a relaxing day.

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
The phone rings. Mack who, today at least, has nothing better to do than answer it himself, does so. His muffled voice can be heard even in the lounge, "...Yeah. Oh, uhhh...yeah, I got a guy. Right. No, he's the fastest I've ever seen, trust me. Alright, we're on it." There is the briefest pause as Mack hangs up. Moments later his head appears in the lounge's doorway. "Kyani? Anybody seen Kyani?" Mack peers around.

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
Kyani gets up when he's called, "Sup Mack." he says as he walks over to the counter. He yawns a little bit, Kyani rubs his eyes a bit, he was about to fall asleep, luckily he was called before that happened. "Got a delivery for me?" he asks as he looks to the older man.

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
Mack isn't *that* much older than Kyani. Though he's ancient enough to still write phone messages down on those little pads of pink paper. Like the one he's holding now. The younger cohort has been asking Mack to go digital FOREVER.

Mack's middle finger slips off his thumb and flicks the slip of paper with a loud >THWACK!< "We got a delivery. Last minute stuff. They asked for my fastest guy." Mack holds out the paper to Kyani, "That's you." By turning the paper to face him, Kyani can (mostly) make out the address for BioMax in Brooklyn.

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
Kyani takes the slip, he knows Mack isn't going to go digital, which he's gotten used to this. Kyani does have one of the few iPads that Mack allows for signature. Rubbing the back of his neck, "BioMax?" he asks. "That's not far, so I should be able to get there and back. Hey I'm going to stop off to get pizza, you want me to bring back a few pies?" he asks Mack as he grabs his messenger bag and the things he needs to deliver.

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
Mack frowns. "You know I've gone vegan." He casts a furtive look over his shoulder to ensure his girlfriend, who (like today) sometimes helps out at the shop, is not within earshot. Thus assured, Mack leans forward conspiratorially, "Don't bother coming back here unless you've got a 'Meatier Shower' from Cosmic Pizza under your arm." He arches a brow and his eyes direct Kyani's attention to the back room where the Missus is likely to be found. The word 'discreetly' is heavily implied.

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
A chuckle escapes Kyani and the dark skinned speedster nods his head, and mouths, 'I got ya.' he says and once everything is ready, Kyani walks out front then steps and is gone. Kyani is moving, a streak of white lightining trailing him as he moves. (Similar to the Flash from the t.v. show, that's what it looks like when he runs.) It doesn't take him long to make it to BioMax. He walks in through the front door, he walks up to the receptionist, "I'm Kyani, I'm here to pick up a delivery."

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
The interior of BioMax is modest but professional. Through the big window at the front one can watch the busy sidewalk or bask in the warm sunshine that provides the bulk of the light inside. There are the usual potted ferns, an open waiting area offering faux-leather furniture to weary travelers, and a selection of reading materials your parents would find fascinating.

There is a young woman standing behind the front desk as Kyani approaches. She's dressed somewhat casually with blue jeans, and a black tee over a pink, long sleeve shirt. Her strawberry blonde hair is haphazardly drawn back into a pony tail and a pair of horn-rimmed glasses have worked themselves halfway down her nose. She's presently on the phone.

"Karl? Listen to me...Listen to me..." The pitch of her voice is low and her words are purposeful. Her dark eyes peered over her glasses as Kyani entered and she gestures him forward wordlessly -- something he was doing anyhow. "Karl...do NOT f---k this up. Understood? I'll call you back." As she spoke, the woman half-turned away from Kyani and muttered her chosen expletive below conversational level either to avoid being rude to Kyani or to keep from ripping Karl a new one in front of a stranger. Is she about to sing 'Born in the USA' here? Because everything about her screams: The Boss.

Having dealt with Karl, the woman turns back to Kyani and mouths the word "Sorry." She reaches below her desk and produces three packages the largest of which is no bigger than phone book. Kyn gets a grateful glance, "Thanks for doing this on such short notice. I need these delivered before the end of day. They're all over the city, though. Is that an issue?"

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
Kyani takes a moment to look around the lobby area for a moment, when he is called, Kyani walks over to the counter where the young woman is. He takes a look at the packages, "Nah, this is good, you said the end of the day huh?" he asks. 'Damn, that's not going to happen.' he says to himself. Kyani looks over to Karl and smirks a little bit as he is getting chewed out.

Shaking his head a little bit, "Yeah, this will not be a problem, it will not take long to take care of these." he says to her. "Payment will be needed upon each delivery, unless this has already been handled already."

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
The woman, who was busily writing something, peers back up at Kyani. "Payment? Oh...umm, on delivery, I guess? I haven't set anything up." She holds up her hands in mock surrender, "Y'know what? Do whatever you need to do. I give you a blank check." The woman smiles warmly and winks to lighten the mood before taping the parcels, "Seriously, whatever you need to do to get these out." She pauses to push her glasses back up her nose, "I'm counting on you."

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
This is odd, no one has ever given a blank check before. He nods his head, "I know what the prices will be, it's all dependent on the location and such, so I will come back here once the deliveries are done." eh says to her. He than backs away looking to her then he turns around and once he opens the door, it looks like he's walking down the street, but then he's gone. Kyani doesn't push his speed hard, but he hits the first location, walking into the building, he looks around for a momement trying to find who he needs to speak to.

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
Location One is a non-descript, low-rise office building. It's not immediately obvious what sort of business these people might be in but it is most assuredly office-y. There's no obvious reception area; however, there is a woman in her early 20s sitting behind a desk playing on her phone. Upon Kyani's arrival she looks up, "Can I help you?"

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
Kyani takes a moment to look around at this building, he's not sure what he's getting into nor does Mack it may seem. "Yo, I have a package for you." he says as he walks over to where she is sitting and she is playing on her phone. He doesn't see anyone else here, Kyani doesn't ask any questions, he places the package down on the desk and hands her his iPad to sign, he gives her a stylus, "Here you go." he says to her. It's only been two minutes since he left the main BioMax.

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
The receptionist -- if that's what she is -- receives the stylus and signs the iPad. For the record, her name is Brandi. The 'i' at the end is capped with a little heart. See? It's all perfectly kosher. "Thanks." Brandi smiles and takes the package. From the looks of it this may have been Brandi's only chore for the day. She settles back into her chair and returns to her phone. Candy Crush, maybe?

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
Kyani checks the signature and he sees the heart, and he shakes his head. "Thanks." he says and as he walks out of the building. He then takes off again, the second location is a bit farther and due to this Kyani isn't wanting to make this take long, and it well Kyani knew when people paid for last minute fast deliveries they need the items. It takes about three minutes to reach the location, Kyani looks around the area before going into the building.

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
Location Two is a busy garage. There are three vehicle bays and each one has a car or truck of some description and at some stage of disassembly. It's loud and it's dirty but the people working there seem convivial enough.

A little bell above the door rings as Kyani enters. Just inside the door is a grease monkey standing behind a counter. The name on his grimy overalls reads 'Big Max', which is odd considering he isn't that big. Big Max looks up from his impossibly dirty looking computer screen -- seriously, how does that thing still function -- to eyeball Kyn, "Heya, pal. What can I do for ya?"

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
Kyani walks into the garage and he walks up to where Big Max was sitting, his computer looked old and dingy, but hey this isn't what Kyani is here for. Walking up to the counter he places the package up on the counter and he holds out his iPad and handed Max the stylus. "Please sign on the line." he says and looks around the office that he's standing in. Kyani is just looking around.

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
Big Max shakes the package, "Ah! Perfect. The wife's got diabetes, y'know?" Great. Good to know. Maybe don't shake her medicine then? Max takes the stylus in his grubby, blackened fingers and makes a schnozzle out his signature. He shrugs at his handiwork and passes the stylus back. "I'm never any good at that." Kyani is going to want to clean that stylus at some point. Humming to himself, Big Max takes the box and disappears with it into a small room just behind the desk.

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
Ok, this isn't bad then. "Glad I'm able to get this to you. I hope this got to her as she needs it." he smiles to Max. He looks at the iPad and will clean it later. This delivery does make Kyani smile as he leaves at the building. He glances back and sees Max as he walks back into the office, then in a blur Kyani takes off streaking like lightning as he makes his way to the last location.

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
Location Three is a Chinese take-away. Inside, there is very limited seating so, clearly, takeout is this place's bread and butter. The smell of fried rice and ginger beef is heavy in the air. It smells delicious. A harried looking middle-aged woman of Asian descent is behind the counter taking an order by phone. An older man -- her husband perhaps -- is working a second phone and yelling instructions in what sounds like Chinese to the kitchen out back. The dinner rush is just starting.

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
Why did it have to be a Chinese restaurant? Kyani is feeling a bit peekish now and he wants to eat, but hey work comes first, besides he's already called and ordered the pizzas. It was his turn to pay for everyone today anyways, so it was all good. He walks up to the old woman, "Hello." he says to her. "Delivery for you." he says as he hands her the last package. He cleans off the iPad and hands her the stylus so she can sign for her package.

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
The woman, still on the phone, doesn't even spare Kyani a look. Instead, and in a brilliant show of multi-tasking born of long experience, she seamlessly signs the iPad as it is slid under her nose, while simultaneously negotiating 'no substitutions' with the person on the other end of the line. Kyani gets his stylus back in record time and the box sits perched on the counter. The downside? Kyani's clothes will smell like delicious Chinese food for HOURS. Ugh! First World problems.

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
Kyani takes back his stylus, he is a bit surprised at how fast he gets things back. "Well have a nice day." he says to her. He hands her the package, he checks his Stark Watch and he sees that he is getting things done pretty damn fast today. He does place an order for Chicken Fried Rice though, he will have that later, now he has to get back to BioMax. With that, he has his food and is rushing back to BioMax.

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
Back at BioMax the 'Boss' -- let's call her 'Priscilla' -- is finishing up a call before Kyani arrives, "Wonderful. Thank you, Max." She twirls her glasses between her manicured fingers and leans back in her chair with her bare feet resting on the desk. "I'm sure he'll be returning shortly." Her right ear twitches as though responding to some distant sound. A twitchy ear is a little odd, no?

"Ah. Speak of the devil." Priscilla hangs up the phone, places her glasses back on her face, and puts her feet back on the carpet. No more twitchy ears, either. Just then Kyani walks past the front window and up to the front door. Right on schedule.

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
Walking into BioMax, he sees Priscilla with her glasses on. He walks up to her, he shows her the iPad with the price for the three deliveries, it's $800 due to these being last minute deliveries and for where they were located. Still it's only been ten minutes since he left originally from her office, but a total of thirteen minutes from Macks to BioMax, which was only three minutes. Good thing no one is timing him right?

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
"Wow. That was fast!" Priscilla chirps as Kyn strolls in. Having made this rather shallow observation she appears to move off the subject. She accepts the $800 price tag without so much as batting an eye. Maybe she's accustomed to high-end invoices? She *is* in the healthcare business. Somehow.

Priscilla pulls open a drawer to her right, "Cash? Credit? E-transfer? Name your poison." She starts to leisurely riffle around in the drawer.

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
He shrugs a little, "You said these needed to be done as quickly as possible." he says to her. "Cash if you have it, but I can do credit as well." Kyani lightly taps his feet a little bit, there is a little scent of burning, but it's gone just as quickly as it's smelled. He checks his watch, knowing the pizzas should be done soon. "If you have anything else for us to deliver, just let us know." he says to her.

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
Priscilla rubs her nose a little which has absolutely nothing to do with the smell of Kyani's sneakers smoking. Why? Did you think she was some weirdo with super-acute senses or something? Mind your own business!

Priscilla smiles, "I think credit might be safer. I wouldn't want you walking around with all that cash in your pocket. People out there are crazy these days." Using Kyn's iPad she 'swipes' the company card. Transaction approved! "I certainly will be using you again. There's no doubt about that." There's a bit of verbal emphasis placed on the word 'you' but it goes by so quickly one would be hard pressed to notice. She's probably just referring to Mack's. Right? "Thanks again for your help today."

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
Kyani makes sure he puts on the square plugin, and once he does he hands her the iPad so she can slide her card through. Once she does it, it is approved. "Alright, awesome." Though he's used to people asking for him normally. He stretches a little bit and he smiles. "Well have a nice day." he does hand her one of Mack's card, they did call, but Mack makes sure they all hand them out. He's been pretty happy when he was able to get the cards.

Barbara-Ann Minerva has posed:
Priscilla's mouth adopts a strangely cold smile as Kyani leaves. "The day has been very productive." she intones now that Kyn is safely away. The phone rings. Priscilla answers without the perfunctory greeting, "Yes, he just left. Thank-you, Mrs. Huang. You've done well. Please give my regards to your better half." As she ends the call with Mrs. Huang Priscilla receives a text: 'Package en route. Data looks impressive -- B.' Priscilla smiles. Brandi's technical acumen almost makes up for her incessant habit of including hearts, stars, and smiley faces in everything she writes. Almost.

"Well, Mr. Kohanna, let's see what secrets you're keeping." Priscilla tosses her glasses aside, locks the front door, draws the blind, and moves to the back of the building. She removes her wig as she goes allowing the long, red tresses beneath freedom at last. Let's see what uses we can put dear Kyani to, shall we?
