Date of Scene: 16 July 2022
Location: Empire State University
Synopsis: Ray gets readouts and Singularity gets dinner.
Cast of Characters: Ray Palmer, Singularity

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer is giving his last lecture of the week, before ESU shuts down for the weekend. Physocs 1.1, for those who didn't make their science requirements. Most of the department had to teach such classes, to largely apathetic students. Ray was luckier than most. Still he was relieved when he finished explaining vectors and conservation of momentum, the bell rang and his students, after a minimal pause to see if there was anything more bolted. Ray was smart enough to have already given them their assignments at the start of the lectures. Bor... wait.

Ray realizes there is a familiar blue light in the back of the lecture hall, where a figure sits.

Singularity has posed:
Singularity, for her part, decided after a few days that she'd never actually seen a college before, so she decided today was a good ay to explore! After roaming around the campus square and such and drawing some attention from that (including a security officer who is following her around), she eventually followed a more familiar power signature over to a lecture hall, then sat down in the back to watch curiously. She's not quite following everything going on (as her vocabulary is still growing enough to do so) and the whole math symbology isn't something she can compare to. She'd probably know what you meant if you just asked her about it, but it's more on a inherent understanding sort of thing for her.

That said, she's watching with an interested if slightly confused expression on her face.

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer hits his belt control. In a flurry of electrons he becomes the Atom. He motions her to come sit closer to the board and says, "Did I confuse you? Where did I lose you? This is pretty simple stuff. My presentation probably wasn't suited for you. I never lectured a Universe before. I have my own questions of course. Just uhhhh respect the secret identity? Please. It figures you could track my suit." He pats his chest.

Singularity has posed:
Ah! Now he is all hero! Singularity finds that trust endearing, it's a big thing when someone officially lets you know their secret identity right? Yay! She hops up and floats over the seats to land at the front. "I did not want. To spoil your disguise." the little blue universe notes, clasping her hands behind her back as she bounces on her toes. She wrinkles her nose. "I don't know. The right words. To follow. Yet." she admits.

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer nods. "Well I can teach you some words. You seem to know foods pretty well. Let's try the principles of motion, or movement. Force is what causes material objects -like me, to be set in motion. The more massive the object, the more force you need to move it at a given speed. Are we still on the same page? Anyway that's the way it is in our Universe."

"You seem pretty intelligent by the way. Language is no indication of intelligence. Some very brilliant people had problems speaking."

Singularity has posed:
Singuliarity cocks her head slightly, then nods. "Yes. Force. Gravity. Interactions between...mass?" she says after a moment, frowning to herself as she wrinkles her nose in thought. "Can follow when I understand. The right words." She hmms. "You are a teacher too? When not being. A hero?"

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer nods. "I mostly do research. I researched the strange matter I found that allows me to change my size and density. I never thought I'd be teaching such a unique student. See here's a planet. Every object interacts with other objects through a force called gravity. Other objects affect it as well. So Earth has a moon in an orbit, but the Earth shifts a little. So there's a balance in nature." He begins drawing the Earth Moon system and adding notes to it. "Can you read my language?" He stops and looks a bit concerned.

Singularity has posed:
"Yes. I do not know. The math language though." Singularity says, watching thoughtfully. "I understand the solar system. I do not know. The words. For more complex. Descriptions?" She ponders. "Or how to represent. What I can see." She frowns. "Words are hard. To match to knowledge."

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer hmmms and taps his chin. "Maybe I can teach you more language. I'd like to do that, and make sure we can communicate easily before I start experiments with you.I don't know if you can be hurt but I know I can. Would you like to learn more language? Oh, I can do this too." He goes over to his desk and rummages through a drawer. After a moment he gives a little cry of triumph and holds up a laminated card on a lanyard.

"This is a pass... a visitor's pass. It's a card, you wear around your neck. It shows you have things to do here at the University. In this case you are a guest of the physics department."

Singularity has posed:
Singularity takes it, peering at it, then slides it over her neck, beaming. "Thank you!" she says cheerfully. "More words are good. I like learning." She ponders. "With math it is more....translating.' she decides. "I know. But do not understand it. How you are saying it."

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer hands Singularity the dry erase marker and indicates the board. "Show me what you can translate in math, so I know where to start teaching you. Math s fine. Scientists wanted to use math to communicate with alien life. Only it kept coming here and seemed to be able to speak perfect english. You're actually pretty refreshing." He gins at her reaction to the badge and lanyard.

Singularity has posed:
Singularity takes the offered dry erase marker, peering at the board, then back to Ray. "I cannot speak Math. Yet." she admits after a moment. Sure, she might understand, but the complex equations that humans use to translate that into a language they can understand? That requires more specialized knowledge.

She does draw some arrows for movement though, a rough approximation of the orbit of the moon and arrows that could be the gravitic attraction between the two!

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer looks at the diagram. "Those are vector arrows. The gravity pulling the Moon Earthward, the velocity keeping it in orbit." He draws a couple arrows himself consolidating a few.

"When one teaches, two learn."

Ray Palmer has posed:
Sometime later, in Ray's lab, the young doctor begins a two part research project. The first part is simply having Singularity hold relatively still for a bevy of sensors, read outs and leads. As for the second part...

Ray got her a tablet and a stylus after loading some english language programs on it for her to peruse. Some videos on science as well. He also just accepted delivery of some cheeseburgers, disco fries, and shakes. Kids' Meals came with a toy and Ray figured why not? In this case a tiny bobblehead Superman.

Ray checks several readings, good, good, strange, what the hell? Good, good. He should see how she reacts to the white dwarf matter. When she's done with the tablet and finishes dinner.

Singularity has posed:
Singularity is trying not to fidget, clasping her hands in front of herself as she holds still, though she perks as she sees the food, looking up from the tablet she's been fascinated with so far, smiling. "Food!" She pauses as she's about to step out of the test area. "Can I haz cheeseburger?" she asks politely.

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer notes the fidgets. Apparently food succeeds where the tablet fails. he grins and nods. He also keeps the sensors rolling. He unpacks the delivery (He told the deliveryman he was feeding a Universe), and hands her her dinner. As he brushes her fingers, his Atom suit materializes around him in a burst of light and giant electrons. "D'oh. Not your fault but I want to write down an idea for another experiment." He does so.

Singularity has posed:
Singularity promptly floats out of the testing area for a moment, finding a seat at one of the workbenches nearby as she perches, then starts carefully taking everything out of the bag, looking delighted at each new thing! "A new experiment?" she wonders.

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer nods. "I'm curious what exactly you do with the food you consume? Actually I'm pretty curious about everything you do. I mean you look human and female. Is this a shape you adopted to talk with humanoids? If I'm getting too personal please let me know. I mean you are female? I'm guessing based on the voice, mannerisms and hair. What pronouns do you prefer? I'm male by the way." He starts blushing under the mask.

"Sorry, I'm kind of clueless around other genders."

Singularity has posed:
"I like females. They are pretty!" Singularity points out, unwrapping the burger in question and sniffing at it curiously. "I watched for a long time. This place. People here. Heroes. Villains." She wrinkles her nose, taking a bite of the burger and chewing curiously, before swallowing, then smiles. "I am female? I like female. And yes. You are male." she says amusedly, smiling playfully at him. "I know gender. Sexes." She tries some of the fries next. "Mmmm. Food is energy. Mass to energy inside." she says, tapping her chest.

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer ponders. "It makes sense, mass conversion. Why not eat a cheeseburger instead of a rock or dirt?" He walks around looking at the blue female.

He picks up the tablet, "Yeah, what do you make of this?" He tuns the tablet around to display the Voyager Plaque (https://launiusr.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/pioneer-plaque1.jpg) "It was designed to make contact with alien intelligences. It doesn't have anything about food. Sorry."

Singularity has posed:
"Because it tastes better." Singularity says, raising a brow at him. "Food is nice. People put effort into making food. So it tastes good." She tilts her head, taking a sip from her drink as she examines the plaque. "Mmm. Hydrogen." She squints at it, turning it back and forth. "Solar system. This is...location?" she says, pointing at the map in the center.

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer nods. "Do you know what we used to give our location? Turns out it wasn't necessary. Everyone knew where we were." His finger taps on the pulsars noted on the image. She was extremely intelligent. But she might lack the words for neutronium and radio frequency. Pity Carl Sagan was dead. Carl'd love to know he got it right. Maybe he should call deGrasse Then again he already got a lot of press. He'd hate to see Singularity fall into the hands of the press... or media.

Singularity has posed:
She doesn't seem to be the sort who would know about PR or such, indeed. Or generally dealing with paparazzi. "Location." she says, frowning as she looks at it, then up, squinting at the ceiling for a moment, then holding up the picture over her head as if comparing it to something, then perks. "Star signals!" she says excitedly. "These are star signals?"

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer silently rewards Singularity by drawing a large chocolate chip cookie out of another bag. "Here, this was a surprise. But you certainly earned it. You're really smart." He hands her the cookie and makes solid contact with the palm of her hand.

Zap! Ray shinks, faster than ever. At dizzying speed as the cookie becomes a mountain and then a world to him and he falls into the palm and Singularity.

He needs to iron out this problem if he's going to be around Singularity. Shaking off the dizziness he opens his eyes and looks around.

Singularity has posed:
"Cookie!" Singularity snags it as it's offered, then blinks as Atom vanishes, blinking as she peers down. "Hello?" she says uncertainly., carefully not jostling Atom as she brings the hand up, carefully transferring the cookie to her other hand in the process, just leaving crumbs.

Meanwhile, Atom will find himself inside a fairly compact space inside her. Blue, like her. Dense with cosmic gasses and proto-stars, but also somehow, with air. Which probably makes it easier for him to get along. She's MUCH bigger on the inside.

Ray Palmer has posed:
A tiny blue and red crumb bounces from Singularity's free hand and enlarges into Ray, who lands flat on his back. He uses a hand control to shut down the size morphing technology, so there will be no more unplanned shrinks. He groans a little. "My God... She's full of stars." He sits up.

"Okay, I think I was in a sort of boundary zone between our Universe and yours. Like a skin or protective membrane. I was peeking inside before I mastered my size control. It was beautiful. You're beautiful on the inside... you take it to a different level... are you going to eat both cookies?"

Singularity has posed:
Ray may feel a sort of push as he pops back out to help him as he's restored to full size. "Yes?" Singularity agrees, then smiles. "Thank you! She ponders, then offers one of the cookies to Ray. "You may have this one?" She beams. "And yes. My skin is...barrier. Separation?" She furrows her brow as she thinks. "Separates me from here. Here from me."

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer takes the cookie and remains on the floor. "Good thing too. Hah... I was just thinking... this is more fun than I ever had on a date." Science is forgotten for the moment. The science center of his brain has enough to process right now.

He stammers, "I don't mean that the way it sounds. This isn't a date. I don't do dates." Munch. Munch!

Singularity has posed:
Singularity tilts her head and smiles. "Okay." she says agreeably, munching on her cookie. "I am glad. You are having fun. Even if it is not. A date?" She tilts her head, chewing and swallowing. "This is not. On a calendar?" she says after a moment of confusion.

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer oooohs. "No it's... " You try explaining courtship to an alien. "It's where people look for a suitable partner to share their life and raise a family."

Deep breath, Ray. "It's often between men and women in my experience. They share food and some activity they find enjoyable." Munch. Munch. Munch! Cookie's gone.

Singularity has posed:
The blue girl wrinkles her nose, thinking. "Oh! Yes. Girl and boy. Or boy and boy. Girl and girl. Girl and boy and girl?" She smiles a little. "Like friends? But more?" She pops the rest of the cookie in her mouth, finshing it off as she chews and swallows.

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer gets up. "Yeah that's about right." He dusts himself off, wondering if he picked up any stardust. "Yeah friends, then more. Never really got past friends myself. Females are complicated, like particle physics. No worse. At least when you figure something out about a particle -it sticks to it. All though bosons are pretty tricky. Let me shut up. Who taught you about food anyway?"

Singularity has posed:
Singularity nods encouragingly, though she's not quite following all of this. But it seems important to Ray! "TV!" she says cheerfully. "They show food. Drinks. All sorts of things!" Singularity, victim of capitalism.

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer says, "Oh... you watched television... what shows do you like watching?" TV. Poor baby. Universe not withstanding. Gosh she might be like the Thermians in Galaxy Quest. Oh thank goodness she doesn't seem to watch any Real Housewives... Then again, that's cable. She'd probably tap in EM broadcasts. "You know most of television is for entertainment, right?"

Singularity has posed:
"The colorful ones!" Singularity declares. Because of course cartoons would appeal. She smiles. "Not real. Yes." She nods a bit. "But good for seeing people do things. Watched mostly superheroes. Being heroes. Doing good. Helping people. Why I came here."

Ray Palmer has posed:
Ray Palmer makes a note to ask her about coming to Earth. "Yeah. All the fun people are becoming heroes. I think we did enough research for tonight and I hardly had any scans going on you. I still have a lot to go over. It's getting late and I ave early classes in the morning. So... th-th-th-th-that's all folks."

Singularity has posed:
Singularity hops up into the air, hovering a bit as she nods a little. "I hope you will learn. Things about me? Then you can. Explain them to me too." she says, nodding slightly. "If you want more scans. I will be happy. To let you take more?" She leans in, clasping her hands behind her back. "It was fun!"
