This one day at Band...er... at the Embassy
Date of Scene: 23 July 2022
Location: Themysciran Embassy - First Floor
Synopsis: Colborn visits the Embassy and meets Diana. Social interactions ensue.
Cast of Characters: Kora Ikassis, Colborn, Diana Prince

Kora Ikassis has posed:
Everything is new - the streets, the shop windows that she can see her reflection in, the noise, the vehicles, the architecture, the accents. The Embassy foyer with its marble floors has a soothing quality because it recalls the halls of Themyscira. Not that the young Amazon is not eager for new experience. She would be gaining weight were they caloric. For the second time in her life, she needs moments of downtime to digest the sights and sounds.

In the midst of this whirlwind of adaption, Kora had made a friend who, like everything else around her, is outside of her frame of reference. They have one point in common. Weapons! Beautifully crafted weapons.

She had smelled the tang of hot metal over the traffic fumes while lost the other day. Following her nose, she had discovered his shop and true to her promise she had invited him to the Embassy to meet her mentor and Princess, Diana.

Colborn has posed:
The Embassy. When contacted, Colborn accepted the invitation with few words. Just a, "I will be there." before packing up samples of his work, and a few special items. They were placed in a foam-lined carry case. Four items placed into their indents to protect and secure them.

That done, he locked up the shop and stepped out onto the sidewalk of the city. From Queens, he boarded the subway and two transfers later, he found himself climbing the stairs from the underground railway a block down from the Embassy. Sure, he can fly. But.. he doesn't advertise that. Also, he only uses his powers when absolutely necessary... unlike some other powered individuals in the city. He is happy to take the time to walk or ride places. And so at the front door to the embassy, he approaches in clothes a bit more neat and clean than his usual teeshirt and blue jeans. Gray slacks and a polo shirt are the closest he gets to formalwear these days. But he tells the door guard, "I was invited. My name is Colborn Gustafson."

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana is in her office at her desk. She's been tending to some work wrap-ups from the past week, and getting ready for the next... Dressed casually in a sleevleess white top, and a pair of black denim pants, the Princess looks pretty at-ease this afternoon. Her dark hair is tied back in to a loose ponytail and she's only wearing a light amount of makeup upon her sculpted facial features.

Visitors to the Embassy are generally attended to by the lobby staff, specifically that of Greta Candy, a young British woman, who has family heritage with the Princess dating back quite a long time now.

However, Kora is more than capable of showing the arriving guest how to get to the Princess' office.

The Embassy itself is mostly quiet at the moment, with some workers here and there tending to the usual affairs of upkeep, with the most people in one location being the kitchen staff preparing dinner for the residents.

Kora Ikassis has posed:
Kora waits behind the guard after tGreta Candy had left her to eagerly await Colborn's arrival. Modeling herself on Diana's manner of dress, she wears a green tank top over dark blue jeans and soft moccasins. She is too self-aware to dress herself exactly like Diana, though at the moment she is in the midst of a serious case of hero worship. Her long curly hair is caught up in a pony tail, too. But she wears no make up, being completely unfamiliar with the concept. Her fresh flawless skin and green eyes need no embellishment.

"Hello, Mr. Gustafson. Welcome to the Embassy. The Princess is in her office, if you will follow me." There may be a note of accomplishment in the greeting which Kora had practiced in her wish to adapt to her new life.

Colborn has posed:
Having hefted the carry case to let security scan it if they wished to... after all, he could have a bomb in there, or a gun, or well anything. It's a closed carry case. For all they know, he brought a pink teddy bear as a gift. What? They exist.

Anyhow, all that was inside was well made steel. Very well made as a matter of fact. But he hefts the case as he nods to Kora, "You look well." he states as he gestures with his free hand. "It is good to see you in such comfortable surroundings. Please, lead on." he states with just the hint of a smile crossing his features.

And as he is led, so does he follow.

Diana Prince has posed:
With the afternoon sunlight filtering in through the windows behind where Diana is seated, the office itself is very well illuminated when the two will arrive. There is quite a lot to see within the office, beyond just the Princess herself. From pictures dating back a hundred years, showing Diana's life around the world in various places, and pieces captured on film, to the armor of Wonder Woman itself housed within its own niche amongst the bookshelves, and illuminated by small lights above it, the armor, and its weapons, gleam brightly as they rest there on display.

When the two arrive, Diana looks up from her laptop and smiles broadly to them. "Kora." She says softly, quite eager to watch the young woman settle in to life amongst the rest of the world... away from Themyscira. Many Amazons have been having that chance now, but Kora is the very latest to get to do so...

Diana rises up from her chair, standing on heeled shoes, she's a little over six feet tall, and steps around her desk to offer a hand to the new guest, and their mysterious case with them.

Kora Ikassis has posed:
With barely contained pride, Kora gravely introduces the Princess to her newfound friend and potential employer, "Princess Diana, may I introduce Mr. Guftafson to you. He is the forge master that I told you about." Standing a step back between the two, her gaze shifts to Colborn, "Mr. Guftafson, the Princess Diana of Themyscira, otherwise known as Diana Prince."

A smile warms her green eyes after the initial protocol of greetings are accomplished. "It was good of you to come when you are so busy with commissions."

Gesturing to the case he carries with an earnest desire to see the weapons in her words, she says, "Princess, I believe he has brought some of his work for you to see."

Colborn has posed:
Staying silent while Kora speaks, Colborn merely waits with patience he has learned with long practice. He waits to be introduced, and when that is done, he nods.

Placing the carry case on the floor, Colborn strides forward and accepts the hand of the taller woman. He himself stands just about an inch under six feet in height. Tall for the time when he was young. Still considered taller than the average for modern day man. Yet still shorter than Diana.

"It is an honor to be introduced to Your Highness." he says to Diana. And he steps back a half pace, giving deference to the Princess because DUH!.

"Ms. Ikassis is quite correct. I brought some samples of my work. But I wished to make them gifts to the Embassy and the nation in the spirit of cooperation and good will."

His eyes flicker to Kora, and then back to Diana, "And between your people and my own. My American passport names me Colborn Gustafson, but I am Colborn of Titanos." he adds, naming the city of the Eternals. Just to see if Diana is aware of that place and those people. If not, he'll explain further. But as he says that, he reaches for the case and lifts it to lay it flat upon a nearby table before opening it up. Within are two swords and two daggers. The swords are a Xiphos and a Kopis, made in the ancient style, but with modern metals and techniques. The daggers are examples of ancient Spartan and Athenian style blades. Again, modern steel alloys but decorated as if they jumped right off the battlefield.

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana is all smiles in the moment, with her left hand going to Kora's right shoulder to give it an affectionate squeeze before she regards Col with that happy air about her. "Pleased to meet you..." She says then, shaking his hand with her own. When she releses his, she nods softly once. "I have heard of your homeland, though my knowledge is sadly limited... and do, please just call me Diana."

Her eyes go back to Kora then. "You had quite an adventure the other day, I heard?" She inquires of the young Amazon, before watching the man display his offerings.

Diana approaches, her eyes wandering over the weapons that he does show off. "Mm, they are beautiful." She quietly comments before reaching for one. "May I?" She asks, and then reaches to raise one up out of the case to hold it in her right hand, with its blade pointed away from them all.

"I will proudly find a place to display these..." She notes for him before showing a light grin. "I did not know you had a shop in this area... how long have you been working here?" She then asks.

Kora Ikassis has posed:
Glowing under the touch of Diana's kind hand, Kora affirms the day of adventure with a nod and an open-handed gesture at Colborn. "The Subway, she capitalizes the words, is...an adventure. On the street, I realized I had not made the right exit. But, I smelled the forge and went to it, thinking I could find help there."

Standing behind the two, she admires the man's work as Diana tests the feel of the blade. "They have a good balance," she murmurs, adding an observation. "But the metal is not like ours, I think."

Colborn has posed:
"My people are from the city of Titanos. There is... well there have been many tales describing us as deific. This is simply not true. We are no creatures of mystical might able and willing to shape entire civilizations." A pause and Colborn inclines his head, "Well, some of us may have tried to do just that. But we are -not- beings of mystical power. Any power we wield is due to genetic tinkering done to us long ago. My people call themselves..." And he rolls his eyes, "The Eternals. I myself have focused my power into working metal. I tell you this because I do not wish for you and yours to think that I have attempted to deceive any of you."

That explained, Colborn steps back to let the Amazons examine the weapons. "No. There is nothing supernatural about those weapons. They are merely made with care and love. I do not... -manipulate- the metal of most weapons I make. I thought to show you what I -could- make, and then perhaps there may be a need for more of such items in the future. And... I have been forging weapons for quite a long time. This shop however... opened just over a week ago. It is in Queens, and named simply... The Forge."

He speaks with confidence and maintains good posture while doing so, hands clasped behind his back.

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana glides a finger over the flat side of the blade before she moves to gently set the sword back down in to its case. She smiles lightly to Kora. "The best sword, is the one that can remain sheathed." She says to her sister before looking back to the man who forged these.

"The Eternals. Yes. I have not had a lot of experience with them, but i have come across stories, and references to some of your people. I would be interested to learn more too... admittedly."

Diana then motions to the small kitchenette in the corner of the room. "Would either of you like something to drink? We have many options. From water, to tea, to well... a lot." She smiles playfully next.

"The Forge, you say?" She then asks of Col. "I would enjoy visiting this place myself some time. To be quite honest with you, we may very well require some assistance with such things. Have you heard of the Themysciran Arts Center? It is setup just across the park from here... and we put on quite a lot of classes involving our culture's combat styles. The public is quite eager to come and watch, as well. We would happily feature some of your designs there also, if such a thing interested you."

Kora Ikassis has posed:
"Princess, I would be glad to get you something if you like. I will have a glass of water and will serve myself." Scandalized is too strong a word for hearing the Princess offer to serve her and yet, not standing on ceremony is part of her charm for the young woman and speaks to her heart.

Kora absorbs the information about Titanos and the Eternals, offering, "My father told me once about his people. He told me they were a very old people from before the Gods." The young woman looks at Col for confirmation.

"I did not know about this Arts Center. I hope, too, I can help."

Colborn has posed:
Lifting a hand, Colborn wobbles it back and forth, "Before the gods... that's a very vague and not necessarily accurate statement. It is something of a Chicken and the Egg question between people and gods. But either way... "

He chuckles and gestures, "Water will do fine for me. And.." he turns to regard Diana when she speaks of the Arts center, "I would be happy and honored to be involved. I can only imagine the increase in business that I will get from such displays. And..." His eyes flicker back to Kora as he continues, "That brings me to my next point. I had an idea... a wise man once said... when you have a problem, you have a problem. But when you have two problems, sometimes you can use one to solve the other. You...." his eyes flicker to Diana then, "have a young Amazon who would benefit from some real world experience. I have a shop without a staff other than myself. I have been trying to find someone to help keep my papers organized, and to help show the wares to customers. I was thinking that since The Forge is on the way between here and the university, that Kora might be interested in earning a meager income and learning about how I forge weapons, but also interacting with the public in that manner. But... I wished your approval Your Highness."

Diana Prince has posed:
Diana gives Kora just a small smile at the insistence to serve rather than be served by the Princess. "Tea, would be wonderful." She tells the younger one before she looks toward Col, and motions toward one of the pieces of leather furniture. She steps to one herself, and sits down upon it. "That would be one hope for hosting you at the Arts Center... and yes, Kora, Galatea and Adrastea are eager for you to join them in training there as well." She speaks of the two Amazons who first left Themyscira to join Diana here at the Embassy, thus making them the most experienced beyond Donna, Cassie... or Diana herself.

When the Princess regards Col again, she nods her head two quick, and small times to what he says. She gives a glance toward Kora, then looks back to him.

"If she is up for such a experience, then I am all for it. I do worry about her jumping in too deep in to this very different world... But, I did it myself, a long... time ago." She responds, with a warm expression crossing her features then.

Kora Ikassis has posed:
Busying herself in the small kitchen alcove. Kora sets the electric kettle that she has just learned to use to boil and warms the teapot with hot water in preparation for making the tea. The British are not the only people to know how to brew tea correctly. While she sets up a tray to serve Diana, she listens to the ongoing conversation, saying gayly over the clatter, apropos to the training, "I should like that very much.

She leaves the question of who came first to wiser heads than her own, though the question of Colborn's origins are intriguing. Perhaps, it will be something that he can enlighten her on at another time.

It's an odd sensation, somewhat comforting, to be discussed by one's elders. An experience she has not had since leaving the island, she grew up on. Diana understands how little she knows of this wide world. She is old enough to know that she doesn't understand but the breadth of her small finger about it. All she has is the support of her sister Amazons and the desire to do her best for all concerned.

After setting the tray of tea within Diana's reach, she serves Colborn with a glass of water, even remembering to add the novelty of ice to it. She likes the pleasant tinkling of the cubes and gives her own a swirl before taking a seat.

After a questioning glance at Diana, she nods, smiling, "I would like to try. I will do my best, Mr. Gustafson. There is so much to learn."
