The Suit Makes The Girl
Date of Scene: 19 April 2020
Location: R and D Labs: Triskelion
Synopsis: With the latest FitzSimmons suit in hand, Jennifer and Carol depart to start testing some limits...
Cast of Characters: Carol Danvers, Jennifer Takeda, Jemma Simmons, Leopold Fitz

Carol Danvers has posed:
Carol is carrying a very unusual sleeve under one arm as she heads into the residential area. It is tucked under her arm so she ca read her tablet. "Lets see... hmm... well that is a lot of radiation. Okay this makes sense." she muses to herself.

The tablet is tucked into her jacket and then the suit modulates into full hero uniform including her helmet smoothly. She taps hte airlock codes and enters making sure to ping the occupant. "Jennifer Takeda.. got a patch for your suit and I've been asked to escort you down to the R&D labs so it can be fixed."

As long as Jennifer is good with putting on the patch, which will auto-seal-cinch on her arm, then Carol will walk her down to R&D.

Jennifer Takeda has posed:
Jen is yanked out of a netflix induced reverie by the telltale thunk of the outer door unsealing, accompanied by the red light above her door illuminating. Hopping off the bed, she turns on her side of the intercom to reveal... Is that Captain Marvel? ...And she's apparently still in the airlock. "Uh... You /do/ realize that if I cycled it with you in there, you'd be all sorts of contaminated, right? And whatever it is that gets sprayed when anything comes out isn't good for clothes."

Carol Danvers has posed:
Carol notes with her usual dry wit. "I've read your file Ms. Takeda. I will be fine .. figured this was the fastest way to get you suited up and down to R&D. Though I do appreciate your concern." she glances and then shrugs. "I'll just leave it in the airlock though stress you out less I imagine." she cycles the thing again and steps back outside before letting it close behidn her.

Cosmic energy flickers over her suit and herself, ending back in her SHIELD version of her uniform which she removes the tablet from once more. She taps it and sends a note to FitzSimmons "Heading down shortly with the package." amusing herself if nothing else.

Jennifer Takeda has posed:
"Just saying, I heard some of the people who installed it griping. Give me a bit to get dressed." Cue the usual slight awkwardness of suiting up, the patch is applied, and the usual standing in the airlock with her arms raised while being misted with some unidentifiable fluid and then blow dried. Finally, the besuited teen exits and eyes Carol somewhat apprehensively. "...So they really sent you, just to pick me up? ...Are they pissed about the ceiling?"

Jemma Simmons has posed:
Sitting in said lab, Jemma puts the finishing touches on biohazard containment facility, running through the diagnostics before their guest arrives. "Fitz, you put the electromagnetic shielding in place, right? We wouldn't want Jennifer knocking out all of the electronics in the lab with a sneeze now." Fingertips flutter over the touchscreen, ensuring all systems are operational. "There. This should be a bit more cozy than a nasty old lead lined room."

Nevermind that it is exactly that. A lead lined portable room. But, with air exchangers, shielding, communications and some entertainment built in. It's cozy, but at least it's comfortable. Jemma slides out a tablet, acknowledging Carol with a tab and a text of her own, before she calls out to her partner-in-science.

"They're almost here, Fitz. Let's have that new suit ready..."

Leopold Fitz has posed:
Life is rarely boring, here at the Triskelion. Initially that was something that Fitz had a little bit of difficulty adapting to. The idea of a nice, quiet lab where he could work away of scientific and technological advancement without truly being iintruded upon by the real world was pretty compelling. He's come a long way in the last few years in that regards.

Of course, he still doesn't particularly like change, still does not love when there are disruptions to 'his' space, which in this case he has come to define as the whole of the R & D labs. Others might take issue with that, with some good reason. That doesn't seem to phase Fitz much though. "Of course the shielding is in place," he says in absent fashion, not even bothering to glance over towards the display that is monitoring just that. "Readouts are all green and the field is sitting at maximum stability," he assures his partner even while he attends to his next -- and much less fun -- task. Getting that heavy duty radiation suit on. "I really hate these things," he mutters under his breath. So really, think about how their 'patient' feels.

Carol Danvers has posed:
"If they got pissed everytime someone damaged the building... wellt hey would be pissed all the time. Then again Fury does seem pissed all the time." she muses about that then shrugs and starts to wander down the hallway expecting Jennifer to follow.

"I think they want me to work with you a bit really, since you can't hurt me. Probably a safety thing. So I figured picking you up to take you to the lab would be a good chance to get to know you a bit before any of that. I do have a bit of experience with blasting energy beams and all that and how to aim. It takes some practice."

Walking into R&D "We're here geeks." it is said honestly fondly though, Carol doesn't mean it at all as an insult she is honestly fond of the duo that run herd on R&D.

Jennifer Takeda has posed:
"In that case, glad I never met him." Jen rolls her eyes inside her helmet. What is it with leadership of law enforcement organizations always being semi-pissed off? "Wait, like... not at all? I know you fly in space, but... Not even the toxins and stuff?" That is... an actual surprise. They'd had a lab rat in the same room as her, albeit in a radiation shielded container and in the same air when she first showed up. It'd lasted about a day and a half. "Fitz. Simmons." Jenn gives them both a nod of greeting. After all... They are some of the nicer ones here.

Jemma Simmons has posed:
As the pair of women walk in, Jemma is seen just getting her own bulky radiation suit on. Her helmet isn't quite on *yet*...but it is definitely on the verge. As such, she gives Carol and Jennifer a bright smile...but does not get close. Go figure.

"Hello, ladies! Thank you so much for coming down here!" And to Carol specifically, Jemma adds "And thank you for helping us today, Agent Danvers." Because yes, Jemma is still going to be proper and use last names. "Fitz and I...well, mostly Fitz...have been working on an improved suit, given your recent, shall we say, mishap?" With that, a slightly strained smile is given. "But, in order for us to get it to you, we are going to need to ask you to just step into this chamber here. You should be able to take off your damaged suit and move around freely while we get things all situated here."

With a glance back to Fitz, Jemma takes inventory. It is a brief glance, but to Leo, it is a full fledged conversation. Translating to 'I hope you're ready, because here we go.'

Leopold Fitz has posed:
Fortunately by time their appointment arrives Fitz is already fully suited up, that bulky, uncomfortable suit secured. That line of lights in the helmet's looking glass illuminates his features. Certainly on the surface he is not quite so welcoming as his partner, his own expression a little more solemn, devoid of that welcoming smile, though he does give a nod to both Carol and Jennifer as they make their way into the lab. "Aye, as Simmons has said, thank you for taking the time," he offers quietly, turning towards the containment chamber they have spent the last day getting ready for this.

"As always, you're being too modest. You know that I couldn't have gotten the specs right without your input," he points out, tapping at the airlock of the custom built and designed secured chamber, the heavy doors sliding open with a hiss of air, the difference in the pressurization obvious from the sound alone. "Quickly now," he says briskly, motioning towards that entrance. "We'll get you all set back up right and proper in no time at all Miss Takeda," he says confidently.

Sometimes they finish one another's sentences, sometimes they have an entire conversation in just a look. There's a reason why they work so well together despite their different fields.

Carol Danvers has posed:
Carol notes as an aside to Jen as they walk to the lab there "Fury isn't that bad, he just is grumpy a lot. I think he has too much on his mind with the whole world security thing." sass.

Looking to Jemma and Leo she nods once more in greeting. "No problem Agents. I'll do my best to .." she gestures vaguely "Soak up any stray radiation I suppose in case there is a major mishap." she isn't kidding either, based on the testing done when she last got back to earth she is a regular sponge for dangerous particles and energy waves.

Glancing back to Jen she steps out of the way though does stay near the door to the temporary housing. "They are probably nervous the patch is going to slip I imagine."

Jennifer Takeda has posed:
"Yeah... Sorry about that." Jen goes to rub the back of her head, but only hits the filtration unit on the back of her helmet. "Turns out that I can fire beams of something? And they can /also/ go off when I get angry? I guess now I know what the tingling means." Sighing, she makes her way into the smaller 'tank', and desuits once she's inside. Since she'd have to be doing stuff out of the suit in public, leggings and a sports bra were in order. "I'd rather not nearly kill anyone else."

Jemma Simmons has posed:
Jemma glances to the fully suited Fitz before she shifts back to Carol and Jennifer. "Us? Nervous? No!" There's that strained smile, a sure sign that the good doctor is probably not all that truthful right now. "It is just a good idea to have backup plans incase something goes wrong." That is definitely a truthful statement as Jemma finishes sealing herself into her suit, giving the helmet a twist to establish the seal as the lights flicker on inside. "Besides, we do need to test the capability for the suit to release those energy blasts at some point and the weapons testing facility, while rather well sealed, isn't to the level of our containment unit here."

Not to mention the fact that the containment unit is, well, untested. It isn't like the pair had a whole lot of time to get things ready. One of the hallmarks of FitzSimmons. They work fast.

Properly sealed in, Jemma makes her way over towards Fitz, keeping an eye on one of the monitors in the lab, recording the radiation levels inside the unit and out. "Looks like containment is holding steady. Systems working normally. No leakage detected." Well...that's good news.

Leopold Fitz has posed:
Nervous isn't exactly the right word. Respectful perhaps. With knowledge comes understanding. They have a very good understanding of what the radiation and toxins perpetually leaking from Jennifer are capable of. And they are respectful of the danger that poses, both to themselves, to anyone else in the lab and potentially to anyone in the entire base. Properly so -- at least in Fitz's mind.

"Not to worry," Fitz offers briskly at Jennifer's apology. "Sometimes we can't be sure how our tech will hold up in the field until it is tested under adverse conditions," he continues, surveying some of the readout displays himself as their 'patient' enters the secured chamber along with Carol. He can see just how much radiation is pouring out into the room... and can also see how much of it seems to be immediately snapped up by Agent Danvers. While it doesn't make the test of their new electromagnetic shielding anywhere near as challenging as it would otherwise be, Fitz isn't all that disappointed about that right at the moment. As much as he usually likes to see just how well their latest creation is operating.

"Alright, looks like everything is a go on our end then. Containment should hold just fine," he notes over the comm, his voice sounding a little more hollow then normal coming from within that helmet. Once more he shoots a glance over towards Jemma, a sort of 'I told you so' look.

Carol Danvers has posed:
"I mean the whole thing about unexpected energy blasts .. UEBs... is the fact they are unexpected.... I mean if we expected them then they would be expected energy blasts or EEBs... totally different thing... just basic meta-sciences." okay Carol is having a smidge to much fun here.

She leans gently against the containment area and looks to the scientists. "Well that is promising. So you think she can probably fire blasts in the suit safely then?"

Jennifer Takeda has posed:
"I'm just gonna... sit in here. And try to stay calm and stuff." It's true, the readings from yesterday would have showed the rising spike of radiation that ended in the glove's destruction were accompanied by increasing levels in general. yay for vitals hookups and internal data monitoring! "...Not like I have any reason to fire things. SHIELD seems intent on just keeping me here until I'm eighteen."

Jemma Simmons has posed:
The look that Jemma gives next, even through the helmet visors and to the untrained eyes of Carol and Jennifer, relay exactly what Jemma is thinking. The classic eye-roll to Leo's 'I told you so' expression. Meanwhile, Jemma walks over to a nearby table, picking up a sort of suitcase with one hand...and a similar helmet with the other. Much like what Jemma herself is wearing, but sleeker and definitely newer. Like, possibly only days old. That is carried over towards the containment unit, to a little mini airlock purposely designed to transport things in and out. And...the answer to Carol comes.

"Oh, we think so. The issue was that we hadn't anticipated for the venting of excess energy via the hands. The suit was designed to keep contaminants in...not necessarily to let them out." Jemma places the items into the transfer chamber and shuts the door, keying in a sequence of commands to prepare the airlock to seal and shift the chamber to the inside. "So, we needed to add a internal release mechanism to allow for the sudden release of super-excited particles." Aka, they made blaster gauntlets. "Fitz can go into more detail if you wish...but essentially, in layman's terms, when enough energy is built up, then it triggers a release to happen. Mainly through the palms of the gloves. Allows the particles to vent outward and immediately seals when completed to prevent any more harmful toxins from releasing."

Leopold Fitz has posed:
Yeah. It's hard to say whether Fitz is immune to that particular look -- possibly because he has been on the receiving end of it so many times -- or if he is entirely ignorant of it. Which is entirely possible. For someone so bright there are still a lot of things that he doesn't seem to understand. Or at least not be terribly good at recognizing or expressing. Particularly when it involves other people. Then he is hardly the only science geek who could ever say that, right?

"Exactly," Fitz says without glancing up from the display he studies intently, peering down at it as if it is the only thing in the entire world that matters. Which, for him, might be pretty close to the truth at the moment. He can be pretty focused when he is working on a problem. "We never had any cause to expect it would be necessary to release any of that energy. Just the opposite. A breach was exactly what we were trying to prevent. An entirely different sort of suit is necessary to funnel energy in a directed way like that," he notes, a hint of enthusiasm entering his voice. A problem to solve! Hurray!

"Mmmmm, even if you never plan on using this new found ability in the field it would probably be a good idea to learn as much about it as you can and find a way to control it," Fitz notes for Jennifer's benefit, glancing up from that screen for a moment to peer into the containment chamber as Jemma passes the newly designed and fabricated gear in through the secured access point. "Mind you we will probably have to tinker some more with the designs. I think we can refine them considerably but having something up and working as soon as possible was the priority," he notes, a faint hint of disapproval now coloring his words. Ahhh, the demands of the 'field'. Always getting in the way of proper engineering.

Jennifer Takeda has posed:
"...I'm guessing it still goes on the same way as the old one?" Cue awkward suiting up montage, including shimmying her way into the legs, ducking into the helmet while trying to get her arms in place, getting her fingers in the gloves straight, and then finally sealing it up and watching the blinky lights inside her helmet as the status displays come online. "Huh. New suit smell."

Jemma Simmons has posed:
"Oh yes. Same protocols for dressing, Miss Takeda." Proper names from Jemma again. As Jennifer finishes dressing, Jemma is at the display panels on the side of the containment unit, those gloved fingertips punching lightly, but certainly awkwardly at the various controls. "We tried to make it a bit more mobile as well, since we had the opportunity, but I do fear that further revisions will most likely be necessary." Because she knows all too well that Leo will keep tinkering until he is 100 percent satisfied with the suit. Which might take a while. With Jennifer in the suit fully, the contaminate levels show a marked decrease, with the air filtration and scrubbing mechanisms soon bringing the environment back down to suitable, non-lethal levels. "Suit containment secured. The inner chamber is on par with the lab. Miss Takeda, if you are ready, we can open up the unit and let you out. But first, if you would be so kind as to drop your damaged suit into the secured transfer portal, we would appreciate it. We would need to properly dispose of it once we are done here."

Leopold Fitz has posed:
Certainly Fitz is a bit of a perfectionist. Which perhaps stands to reason given how he tends to like things just so. A little bit of his obsessiveness carried through to his work. But it goes to the nature of his discipline too. Biology, chemistry, they might be a little bit messy. But engineering? Technology? It is clean. Precise. Everything in it's proper place. He's probably a little exasperating sometimes. But the end result is usually worth it. "I imagine you can appreciate any increase in mobile function though, even if it is just an incremental improvement," he notes absently. He certainly can appreciate the idea everytime he gets free of these heavy radiation suits. Hot, uncomfortable and it feels like he is walking -- moving -- through sludge, everything clumsy and imprecise. It definitely gives him a better perspective -- and incentive -- to make enhancements.

One last scan is given to the displays in front of him, making sure that all radiation levels within the containment room are optimal before he nods his ascent to Jemma's instructions. "Opening inner doors in five seconds. Remember, any feedback you can give us on how things are working and how they feel will be key, no matter how small," he adds as the airlock begins its cycle.

Carol Danvers has posed:
Carol notes "The whole practicing thing is where I come in so you have some level of control over it. Though I have been racking my brain as to where would be safest to do that sort of practice." she at some point got her tablet back out and is looking through it. "Would suggest space if you didn't need to breath.. but you seem to." she mmms. "Maybe a decomisioned Nuclear facility or one of the skunkworks out in the deserts. Those are pretty hardened." flip flip on the tablet as she muses half out loud as she peruses options.

She looks over her shoulder into the enclosure. "You do need to breath right?"

Jennifer Takeda has posed:
"...Does this mean I'm going to have to re-pair all my bluetooth stuff?" As requested, Jen slips the patched suit into the box where the new one came from. "I'll keep you all updated. "...Abandoned uranium mine? Not like I could make it any worse. And yeah, I'm a normal squishy human who just happens to make the EPA Have heart attacks." Sighing a little, she steps out of the box and stretches a bit. "...Feels about the same."

Jemma Simmons has posed:
The question about breathing prompts Jemma to turn to Fitz, with that far-away look in her eyes that Fitz can immediately identify as Jemma formulating ideas. "Well...we would have to compensate for the lack of pressurization outside of the suit proper, to make sure it can withstand the rigors of space travel. And we would need to add an air supply to allow for that sort of thing. But...maybe..." The digression is abruptly halted as Jemma returns to the present. "Oh! Yes. I am afraid that whatever bluetooth connections you had would need to be re-established. We did not have enough time to do a complete backup of the previous suits systems."

Carol's suggestions of possibles test places does get an empathic nod from Jemma. "Oh, those would be rather suitable test sites, indeed. I would certainly recommend a place that is either already radioactive, so it will not matter, or a facility specifically designed to handle old nuclear armament. After a proper inspection is made to ensure its safety, of course." A look is cast Fitz's way. One reading 'You have any suggestions?'.

Leopold Fitz has posed:
See? It is not just Fitz that lets himself get distracted by speculation and little stray notions that take him away from the matter at hand! Sometimes it's Simmons who's the guilty party! Of course now that she has started them down the garden path it would appear the dark haired lab geek can't help but follow merrily afterwards. "That would be a challenge, but we might be able to compensate with the appropriate alloys. Strengthen the suit's major points and disperse the pressure... hmmmm..." Is Agent Danvers going to be training Jennifer in space? That seems rather unlikely. And apparently completely irrelevant to the pair. It is another problem to solve now, even if it's an unnecessary one. At least for the moment. But things change, right? Who knew that they would ever have to improve her suit's design to allow for controlled release of radioactive energy?

"Oh, any of those should do for the time being. After the proper inspection is done to make sure that any danger of radioactive leakage is completed," he agrees absently, giving a little impatient flick of his hand. They are all solutions of course. But they're not *elegant* solutions. They're not engineering solutions. "Long term we will probably want to see if we can somehow enhance those gauntlets to better focus the release of radioactive energy. With the proper materials and focus it might be able to tightly confine the blast itself so that radioactive leakage is minimized. I started to draw up a few designs..." he says, falling to muttering to himself, fiddling with the display in front of him.

Carol Danvers has posed:
Well Agent Danvers did muse about it to herself. Then she went on to more practical ideas.

Not that it mattered.

Carol watches as Fitz and Simmons go back and forth on making the suit space worthy and she groans lightly "I wasn't being serious guys..." she notes with a fond mock exasparation there. "I think we can probably stick to a nuclear test site or something and be totally safe with our training for Ms. Takeda."

She glances at the enclosure and steps away from the door. "She good to go?"

Jennifer Takeda has posed:
Jen looks between the others. "Yeah... I don't really think me going to space is a good idea. That's more dangeorus than a bunch of stuff SHIELD won't let me do anyway." She interlaces her fingers, crakcing her knuckles, taking a few steps towards the door. "Seriously. Thanks. But... I should probably go clean up some stuff. Laundry day."

Jemma Simmons has posed:
It might have been a joke from Carol. But Fitz and Simmons are already running with the concept of a space-worthy suit. Not because it is practical or even a good idea for Jen to be floating in space in the first place....but because it is a question that needed an answer. And they are going to answer it.

Distracted, Jemma turns back and offers a smile, her containment suit remaining on for the moment. "Oh! Oh yes! Miss Takeda, you are quite free to go." And then it is back to plotting the next version, even while Jemma starts the decontamination process on the previous suit. It seems that there might be a Mark 3 version sooner than one might think.

Leopold Fitz has posed:
The R&D Lab can be a scary place to visit. Not just because of the cutting edge technology that is seemingly always on display or being tested. Not just because of the dangerous materials or potentially biohazard substances they work with. Sometimes it is just the sheer intensity and interest in discovery and experimentation that the 'normals' just will never get.

At least Jemma glances up as she offers her farewells. Fitz doesn't even manage that much as he continues to tap away at his display -- his impatience with being trapped in the bulky radiation suit having been entirely forgotten for the time being. "Remember to let us know anything you notice. No matter how small," he calls out absently, brow furrowing under that helmet. "When you're done with the decontamination process I could use your help with this Jemma. We're going to need to find a method to sop up all that excess radiation at the point of egress and I have a few notions I want to run past you..." he says, already fading right back into science mode.
