Cast of Characters: Phoebe Beacon, Patience Alperen

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Sunday in the Park, on a field of green, among the trees that survived the wreckage of No Man's Land.

Here was Phoebe Beacon sitting with her legs crossed, in a lotus position, her hands on her knees as she leans back against a sturdy oak tree, the breeze rattling through the greenery of the park, her head tilted back, the top of the gauze on her throat wound visible.

At her side, the white-and-red sight hound is laying, looking unhappy because he has to wear a *harness* since they got caught without a leash on.

Patience Alperen has posed:
Patience Alperen spent much of the mid-day at the main branch of the Gotham Library, pouring through dusty and forgotten volumes in their 'Antique' section. Really it's just a nicer term for 'bannned'. She was thankful they still kept the volumes rather than resorting to drastic measures. Like burning them.

She knew that even with their impressive collection, finding what she was looking for would be extremely unlikely. Yet it was worth the legwork just on the outside chance that she might find a lost gem of knowledge.

Not allowed to make copies of the books, she'd bent the rules. Thank God for smart phones. Once she finished, she stopped by one of the food carts for a sack of freshly made candied almonts tht smell strongly of cinnamon. Nibbling on a handful, she turned into to the park to unhurriedly walk the paths as she skimmed through the pictures she smuggled out on her phone.

She will worry about confessing her sin later.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
They would end up in the Wayne or Shadowcrest Estate libraries; that can be certain. Phoebe was as much a book nerd as she was a magician.

The smell of cinnamon clashes with that of roses and black pepper, and Phoebe opens one eye, tilting her head forward as she catches the scent.

Idu, however, does love the smell of food. His ears come up, and he hops to his feet before giving a lonely, yodeling cry that surely translates to 'help me help me i've not eaten for days and hi!'

Patience Alperen has posed:
Patience Alperen has access to the books in the library inside the Velvet Room. But what she has been seeking isn't even documented properly there. It has been a frustrating dearth of information, but she continues searching.

As the sound of the dog in, erm, distress, she pauses and looks up from her phone to find the sad puppy. A moment's scan of the park later, her gaze falls on the dog and its human. Oh. Patience thinks she recognizes the young woman. Deciding she may as well be polite, she offers a friendly smile.

"Hello.. it sounded like someone was in need of a snack. It may not be the safest snack but..."

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe lets out a breaht, and gives a rueful look to Idu, who whines, and then comes back to her side, sitting and yawning in that way all dogs do that shows all their teeth and curls their tongues.

Phoebe reaches over for a notebook, flips it open to a new page and writes in her very neat handwriting: 'He has had breakfast and split a pretzel with me earlier. He's in no danger of starving.' and holds it up to Patience with a smile, and then she looks down, and motions to a bit of grass nearby her, inviting Patience to join them.

Patience Alperen has posed:
Patience Alperen comes to stand a respectful distance from Phoebe and waits as she writes. Leaning over a little to read, she can't help but laugh. "That seems to always be the way it works, yeah." Shaking her head in amusement, she nods, "Thank you." Moving to sit, she keeps her knees bent, arms wrapped around her shins. She's wearing a gray hoodie, faded jeans nd cnvas sneakers.

"I.. well it's nice to see you again? At least without that book" she says with a light laugh.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe gives a wry grin, in much the same save her faded jeans have a skull patch on one thigh and she's just in a soft, gray short sleeve shirt with GOTHAM UNIVERSITY written on it in bold lettering. Her feet are bare, showing that there's pale patches where the melanin isn't being produced in her skin.

She's likewise happy to see Patience. She points to herself, gives a thumbs up, and then points to Patience herself, eyebrows rising up, asking how she's been. Only polite.

Patience Alperen has posed:
Patience Alperen smiles some. "You're well? That's good." Then she dips her head, "I'm well. I was just at the main branch of the library. As they say, leave no stone unturned. I didn't expect to find what I was lookng for. But it was worth taking the time."

She offers over the sack of candied almonds, "I'm not sure these are pet safe but you're welcome some if you'd like?"

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
-Thank you- Phoebe signs, and she accepts a couple of almonds. Mm. Cinnamon.

She purses her lips a moment, considering her words, and then she points to Patience, then looks aruond the little area of park they're in, and gives a shrug, one hand in the air -- what as she looking for that she didn't find?

As Patience knows, Phoebe has books.

Patience Alperen has posed:
Patience Alperen holds the sack out for Phoebe to get a good handful. Taking the sack back she smiles. "Well. I told you last time that I can.. sense certain things. Such as that book." Sighing, she looks over. "I'm.. trying to find information. The history of a, well, it's referred to an an Artifact. There are thirteen of them. I'm trying to learn more about one of them and it has been particularly unproductie.." She pops an almond in her mouth to munch.

"It's called the Ember Stone."

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe pauses a moment, monching on a couple of almonds, and her eyebrows draw up. She gives a rolling motion of one hand, encouraging Patience to go on with the explaination. It's not an artifact she's personally heard of.

She does lean back against the tree though. Idu has come around the back side of the tree, and is sniffing towards Patience. He is also magic in nature.

Patience Alperen has posed:
Patience Alperen looks to Idu, "Hi there.." She smiles and looks to Phoebe, "Is it okay to pet him?" Magic or not, it isn't proper to pet someone's dog without permission.

She adds, "I know who currently possesses the artifact now. I'm just trying to establish its history and the lore surrounding it. It's mostly academic. But there is a 'forewarned is forearmed' aspect to learning more about it as well."

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe gives a nod for permission to pet Idu. Idu then comes up next to Patience, and bumps his long head against her hand, giving grumbling noises, his ears relaxing backwards. He looks a good deal like a Pharoah Hound had a fling with a red-and-white terrier, all wiry-coated and big-eared, elbows and kneecaps not-quite-grown dog.

'He likes pets.' Phoebe writes down on the notebook, putting it on her knee so that PPatience can see it clearly.

'What is the Ember Stone's origin? I <3 folklore/mythology, always truth in the words.' she scribbles down.

Patience Alperen has posed:
Patience Alperen looks back and smiles at the dog. "WHat's his name?"

Gently holding her hand out for him to smell, she then moves to pet his shoulders and between the ears lightly. "He's handsome. And... clearly special." A knowing glance is given back to Phoebe.

"I'm not clear on its origin. As with many items of power, the legends imply it has been around for, well if not forever, for a very long time."

She studies Phoebe for a long moment before slowly reaching up to her throat. She pulls a silver chain from around her thoat. At the end is a unique gem in a silver setting. The gem seems to shift from dark blue to a pale blue like the very heart of a glacier.

"This is the Glacier Stone." She looks to Phoebe. "It has the abiliity to manipulate and create ice among other things. It can do a lot more but.. I try very hard not to let it take control."

"It is the opposing artifact to the Ember stone. As can be guessed, the Ember stone controls fire."

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
'Idu' is written, and then beneath it she writes 'eee-doo'

Phoebe watches as Idu makes a new friend, as he is wont to do, his curled-over tail giving a wag as he 'spluts' comfortably by Patience.

Phoebe does not confirm nor deny Idu's specialness, just gives a small smile in response, and turns her attention to the stone that Patience brings up. HEr dark eyes go a bit wide, and she gives a soft breath out, unable to speak her admiration and how the stone feels, now that it has her attention.

She does pick up her pencil, though, and writes 'it's very beautiful. I can feel it. It feels tingly.'

Patience Alperen has posed:
Patience Alperen smiles. "Idu." She keeps petting him.

She nods. "Yes. It is definitely magical. I.. haven't given in to its full power, but I am aware that it can transform its bearer into a sort of yeti.. ice giant...thing. Something I would prefer to avoid" she admits with a weary expression. It seems to have a constant tug at her. A contest of wills perhaps.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
That is something Phoebe can understand. She breathes out a moment, and then in typical Teenager, she gives a smile. She takes her notebook and writes 'Dunno. Turning into a Yeti/Wampa to fight things sounds kinda awesome' she scribbles, adn gives a bright grin to Patience. 'Highly dangerous tho.'

'Will the Ember give u balance and control against the Glacier?'

Patience Alperen has posed:
Patience Alperen shakes her head, "They are, well, more like enemies? Light and Dark in a way. They balance each other out. I have been able to keep it under contro so far. Even when meeting the current bearer of the Ember stone. We have been able to keep them reined in so we could talk. It can be done but it's like trying to herd cats? It isn't something you wake up wanting to do, having a battle of wills with an arcane senient gemstone."

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
'I don't generally wake up wanting to have any sort of battle of wills. I'll lose. To my bed. Z Z Z.' Phoebe doogles with a small grin, and she purses her lips.

'Come by the Curio again some time, I would be happy to work with you on research.'

Patience Alperen has posed:
Patience Alperen munches on more almonds and nods. "Thank you, Phoebe." She smiles. "I shouldn't take any more of your time. It was nice to see you again." Without the evil skin book.

She pats Idu and then stands up. "Have a good afternoon? I'll stop by the Curio soon."

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe gives an affirmative nod to Patience, and sets herself back up in the lotus position, giving a smile to the Magdalene, and tilts her head back against the tree. Once again trying to ground herself well.

Idu yyaaawns... and sniffs around for any forgotton almonds.
