Busting Up Bikers
Date of Scene: 30 August 2022
Location: Chinatown - Founder's Island
Synopsis: Osprey and Balm bust up a biker drug deal
Cast of Characters: Austin Reese, Phoebe Beacon

Austin Reese has posed:
"Hey we always do your weird magic things, you wanna do one of my seedy underworld things?"

An odd way to propose a night on the town, so to speak, but never the less that's how Austin presented his pitch to Phoebe only a few seconds after walking in on her in the library at the manor.

An hour later, and Austin is in full Osprey getup, perched on a fire escape above an alley in Chinatown. The weather is surprisingly not raining, but there is still a lingering humidity in the air, adding to the heat of the early evening. "Okay so, the guys bringing in the heroin is the Purple Dragons. These guys normally operate in New York but I found out from a contact they were bringing this stuff in to an old.." He pauses for a second, "Old associate of mine, the leader of The Scavengers. They operate in the same general area I did when I was still in that kinda thing, so we had a few run-ins."

"I'm expecting they'll be here within the next few minutes, so it gives us time to set up. Any game-plan you wanna try to run? Otherwise we can just do it the old fashioned way."

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
"Totally down for seedy underworld things. Sometimes I combine them! #IllegalBars #HaveSeenSomeStuff." is the text reply to the question, but she had a grin on her face when she showed it to Austin.

She's still overly quiet, but Balm was dressed in her Gotham Finest -- which means she was armored instead of wearing her junior mage set up.

Both have a hood. So fancy. She gives a wry smile over to Austin, the lenses of her domino faintly glowing blue as she gives a nod, pursing her lips beneath the cloth mask she's taken to wearing under the domino, and she shrugs her shoulders.

<Old Fashioned works. Really sometimes more of a traditional girl. Anyone we should focus on leaving awake for information?> she inquires, via text, looking to Austin with eyebrows rised.

Austin Reese has posed:
"I'll be honest, the leader of the bikers will probably give up some info. No idea about who might give stuff up on the Dragons side, but we'll see who puts up the least fight."

He's had no issue with responding to her texts since he switched over to wearing that tech mask. It was a literal lifesaver.

"I'll hop over to the other side, they should be down here any second. We'll let them show the merch first so we can be sure we're getting it off the street." And with that, he hops up to the roof, and then across the alley to the other building, hopping onto the fire escape without a sound and giving Balm a thumbs up.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe gives a wry smile, and she stretches her fingers out. She narrows her eyes a moment to Austin, bracing herself as he crosses the alleyway, and she gives a thumbs up over to Austin, and she breathes out, bracing herself as she waits on he gang members to make their appearances.

Austin Reese has posed:
Within a couple of minutes, the sound of motorcycles can be heard down the road. Austin motions to Phoebe as he crouches down. Three bikes pull into the alley proper, while two more wait outside by the street.

A minute after that a group of guys all wearing purple heavy outfits make their way down from the other side of the alley, a van parked out of that side, with a guy sitting in the driver's seat.

A couple of words are exchanged between the biker leader and the Purple Dragon heavy that is leading this group, <"Watch the guy with the bag behind the Dragon. That should be the heroin.">

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe easily drops into Balm mode as she breathes out, her eyes keeping a watch on the bag. Dragon with a birdie. She keeps her breathing measured, watching as the interactions go on. She watches over the happenings sharply, marking people with her HUD as she eyeballs each one of the Dragons and the bikers. She minds the heavies as she shifts her weight on the rooftop, waiting on Austin's lead.

Austin Reese has posed:
The two of them speak back and forth, the kind of banter you would expect, and then the bag of money held by one of the bikers is opened. A nod and then the other Dragon with the bag opens it and then holds it open. The biker leader nods, and both goons throw their bags across.

As the bags sail through the air, Austin gives the signal to Phoebe and goes. He hops off the fire escape, tossing a handful of flash pellets downward as he throws a batarang towards the only light source.

The flash pellets go off a fraction of a second after the light shatters, again filling the alley with light, but only for a moment. It creates a strobing effect that disorients anyone who doesn't have flash filters built into their mask.

Austin aims for the biker who had the bag, since he would have been the one catching the bag of drugs. That makes him the primary target to take down.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
The flash pellets go off, and as the lights go out, dumping the area in darkness. The bags are thrown, and as they hang in mid air, a throwing dagger takes the bag of heroin, pinning it to the wall hopefully out of reach of the group.

Balm swings down as Austin takes out the biker who had the bag, and delivers a flying elbow as she swings to take out the biker's counterpart, a solid hit and the feeling of the breaking of a nose riding up the nerves of her arm before she takes out her other grapple, and tries to lasso the feet of another Dragon.

Austin Reese has posed:
The moments of disorientation are always the time when the Bats work best. Austin's feet had firmly planted on the goon's chest and driven him to the floor, a knee following as Osprey rolled through with the momentum, coming up to a knee as he throws a pair of batarangs at the two bikers that were down at the end of the alley, since they're just reacting to the light going out and the flash pellets going off.

He spins around to kick at the other goon that had been behind the leader, leaving the boss biker untouched.

The leader of the gang just hears noise behind him, the disorientation causing him to think that the attack is coming from the Dragons, as he turns to attack the dragon leader, adding to the chaos.

Balm's goon goes down, then the other one, grabbed around the legs and hauled off his feet, landing hard on his back with the wind knocked out of him, left gasping for air. The Dragon leader, hit in the face, just has no idea what is going on as he stumbles backwards towards Balm.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Dragon leader was coming for her, and Balm extends her own staff out, turning and using it to try to sweep the back of the Dragon leader's legs and follow through with another elbow to the face. Elbows are handy. Incidentally this is also why her left elbow never fits right coming off patrols.

She feels her adreniline running, and as she just assumes the Dragon leader is going to go down, she turns to regard her next enemy, eyes narrowed behind the mask as she steps forward, bringing the staff around and over her head!

Austin Reese has posed:
Balm's timing is impecable as she strikes the dragon with the staff, sending him tumbling end over end and slamming into a dumpster. At the same time Austin grabs the biker leader from behind in a choke hold, keeping it just loose enough that he can still barely breathe.

Balm's staff swing comes to within a fraction of an inch of his nose, "You like breathing, don't you Frank?" Osprey growls out from behind him, "I know your crew has been cooking and selling in New York again, that's where this deal came from. Now tell me where the lab is."

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Fine motor control, years and years of not smacking her friends upside the head with a stick.

Phoebe's optical lenses glow a menicing, icy blue beneath her hood as she holds Frank at threat, looking to Osprey as she holds her stance, registerring the heartbeats and injuries of those around her, making sure no one's *too* far gone that the police will have issues with them. While Osprey growls, she's standing still, silent, ominous. She's taking lessons from Batman very seriously.

Austin Reese has posed:
Frank is just a biker, he usually wouldn't expect to draw the attention of the capes, "This shit never happened before we got wrapped up with those damned Purple Dragons." Frank mutters, his stance drooping a bit as he very clearly has given up, "Never had capes get in the way. Yeah. It's at the Midguard Self Storage on 19th Ave."

Osprey looks to Balm and gives her a quick text <Let the GCPD know. Tell them to bring HAZMAT.>

"Jail time will do you good Frank." Osprey squeezes his hold, the blood choke putting Frank out in only about four seconds. He does grasp at the arm around his neck for a moment before he goes limp. Osprey sets him down and steps back, "We didn't kill any of them did we?" He asks, as he moves to start applying cuffs as needed until the GCPD gets there.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Cuffs and cuffs and ties and cuffs -- Phoebe had already alerted the GCPD via her mask - anonymous tip.

Her eyes dart against her screen, adding MIDGUARD SELF STORAGE - 19TH - with Frank's information listed and warns for HAZMAT.

She turns, and runs up the wall to retrieve her throwing dagger and the bag she'd pinned, dropping down to the alleyway and catching it very gently in her gloved hand.

<No accidents. Even if someone was close, it would be taken care of.> she responds via text. With a smiley face.

Austin Reese has posed:
<Good. I'm sure the big guy will give us both a gold star on the board for this.> Osprey replies, as he gets out his grapnel gun and takes aim upwards, hearing the sirens in the distance getting closer by the second, <Split up and meet back home?> He asks, before firing his grappel and shooting out from the battle scene. Should be only a few seconds before the first responding officers get there.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Balm takes one more look around the alley.

<Affirm.> she replies via text, and then she fires off her own grapple, heading North once she swings herself up to the rooftop as the alleyway lights up with reds and blues.

<Have such a hangering for fried rice though.>

Austin Reese has posed:
<Roger, detour to backup point bravo and then we'll go get those rations.>

In other words head back to where they met up initially and left their civilian clothes, and then they'll go get some of that fried rice.
