When The Levee Breaks I'll Have No Place To Stay
Date of Scene: 21 September 2022
Location: Dunhaven, Massachusetts, and the failing Hivers Dam.
Synopsis: Heroes respond to a dam collapsing in the valley above a Massachusetts town.
Cast of Characters: Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, Bart Allen, Sunny Harlow, Phoebe Beacon, Grant Ward, Janet van Dyne, Clark Kent, Kitora Alua

Steve Rogers has posed:
The small town of Dunhaven, Massachusetts is a picturesque little town at the bottom of a long canyon that descends from a more mountainous region. Settled along both sides of a river that is controlled at the top by a dam, the town is a tourist destination known for fantastic fudge, an artist colony that has gained a popular following, and an old factory that produces parts for vintage vehicles and machines. The town museum has a number of old cars ranging all the way back to Model-T Fords.

A long period of rain that had settled into the area resulted in the ground being saturated. Hivers Dam lies at the top of the canyon, controlling the runoff from a large lake at higher altitudes, one that has been discussed as being tapped as a water reservoir for some larger nearby cities.

Unfortunately, Hivers Dam is a little aging. And a bit of corruption in the department responsible for inspections and maintenance has led to what has quickly become a dangerous situation with all the rainfall.

Word starts to spread on the networks about visible cracks forming in the dam. The Governor announces he's calling up the National Guard to conduct evacuations, but it will take time for them to get there. There are also a limited number of roads that make the steep climb out of the canyon, mostly by switchbacks that wind up the steep hillsides.

Word goes out among various hero networks for anyone who can respond. SHIELD and the Avengers put out word they can airlift anyone that can help, and within a short period of time, Quinjets are streaking through the skies, taking any responding heroes north to the area at risk.

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
It's time for an evacuation. And at least whatever damage control that can be done to delay it. A few SHIELD agents coming back from a mission were hastily redirected to give what assistance they could. So a slightly battered Quinjet, an exhausted squad, and one seemingly endlessly psychotic special agent with them.
"Drop off anyone in the area for recon. We'll sweep the area for anyone in the area of the collapse and see if there's anything we can do to slow the deluge." Natasha is getting ready to as soon as they're over teh drop zone deploy herself, after taking the time to get comms synced among the disparate groups that will no doubt show up.

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen has heard of the fudge and a neat eatery in the area. So he had asked Phoebe if she wanted to join him for lunch. So Bart and Phoebe happen to have came to Dunhaven. After a nice lunch they are checking out to fudge shop. He look over and says "I stopped by the area, after a shopping trip for taco night and heard people raving about the place. I thought about stopping in then but figured it would be better with a friend. He pauses and points towards the skyline "Hey is that a quinjet?

Sunny Harlow has posed:
Alright! Shift over, no more waiting tables or making coffees! Pulling her apron off Sunny had switched on her phone to start the journey back home. Super-endurance didn't make dealing with crappy customers any easier. in fact, fighting the temptation to try throwing some into orbit was a challenge in itself.

Of course, relaxing would have to wait with the new hitting social media and public broadcast.

She was a heroine now, time for Indestructibelle to respond!

A sonic boom announcing her arrival and the blonde girl arrived in the skyline, wrapped in the white and red suit with a cape that clearly marked her as some sort of superhero. Y'know, that and the whole flying thing.

Of course, now that she was here, there was still the problem of where to start. She had no idea how to fix a dam...Oh! People! Right!

One zoom later and the rookie heroine was headed to lift free people whose vehicles had gotten stuck below.

A comm? Sunny wasn't quite so lucky.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe had been feeling down, and hey, fudge is as good a reason to get out of Gotham as any other, and had permitted Bart to take her out to lunch and fudge, to which she has added a large bag of good New England Saltwater Taffy.

That she was holding in her arms before she raises her eyes up, jaw tightening and eyes narrowing as she looked up to the sky and spotted the Quinjet.

She was about to respond in the affirmitive when a sonic boom rocked the area, and she raises one arm (shielding the taffy), looking to Bart, and then motioning with her head, just as the local alerts hit her phone.

In a brief, she's pulled her hood up and with a cross of her hand she's donned her 'magiciain' outfit, even if she can't get her 'Superhero' armor out.

    They've got to help.

Grant Ward has posed:
He did not even have time to set his bag down from the previous mission. The moment Agent Grant Ward landed, he was informed he was being sent of on another mission, and it would be Natasha that would find him in the hallway of the Triskelion and in a few short words tell him to follow her. When Natasha spoke and requested you accompany her, you simply follow and ask questions later. Did it matter that he had not slept or that he had a good size cut on his cheek? Nothing Simmons could not fix later, right?

As they approach the sight, Ward prepares himself with the neccesary equipment, making sure his com worked and turned to address Natasha. "This thing looks like a ticking time bomb. We might be looking at a search and rescue mission. Let's hope they have started an evacuation."

Janet van Dyne has posed:
As the jets get close, Janet opens the aft gate of her Quinjet and fearlessly peers over the edge. "<I'm no nerd, but it looks bad,>" she says over the comms net. The Wasp looks around the area and pushes her hair back from her face.

"<Priority is clear the civilians. I'm going to try and shore the dam up a little,>" she announces to the rest of the crew. "<I think I see some other metas on site. Someone should probably go up to them and give them a patriotic speech and get them on the job or out of the way,>" she adds, in a Completely Neutral tone of voice.

Unrelated to any reason whatsoever, Janet is not in the same Quinjet as Cap.

"<All right, this is my stop,>" she tells the pilot, and flashes a thumbs up. Janet crosses her arms over her chest and skips backwards off the tail of the Quinjet, freefalling far enough to get clear of the rotor wash before she shrinks and buzzes at her best speed towards the dam itself.

Clark Kent has posed:
Meanwhile, in the vacuum of space, Superman is on an intercept course with an asteroid. Course projections give it a ninety nine percent chance of impacting with the Earth, and given it's about the size of Rhode Island that would be a very Bad Thing(tm). So the Man of Steel is out of the picture at the moment, not yet even aware of the impending dam issue.

He's not really pushing his speed, just kind of enjoying the freedom to move without worrying about breaking a building or something. Earth is his home and worth every moment he spends restraining himself, but sometimes it's nice to just get away from it all.

Looking ahead, he spots his target in the distance and corrects his course a little to intercept it directly. No extinction level events this week, at least.

Steve Rogers has posed:
The Quinjet that Steve Rogers is riding in comes in quickly, redirecting thrust in what looks like a sliding turn that ends in a hover.

Steve's voice comes over the comms. SHIELD and Avengers are patched in together. <That's a lot of people at risk. Those at the top and nearest to the river are our priorities, but we also need the entire valley evacuating. It's going to be tight getting people up those small roads,> he says as he surveys the area from behind the Quinjet's pilot.

Anyone very near to the dam itself hears an ominous sound as the concrete groans and more cracks spiderweb across its surface. Then little spouts of water start to break through. First one, then another and another. Soon a dozen spots are spraying water. Finally a large V section of the dam completely gives way, releasing a torrent of water!

A few sightseers who heard the warning and went up to the dam instead of evacuating, begin racing down the roads trying to stay ahead of the flood waters that are quickly gaining. The wall of water hits a visitor's center and washes the entire building off its foundation. It is staying mostly together, a half dozen people grabbing to a railing on the observation balcony they were on.

The water roars down the valley, encountering the first houses. A man that sees it coming hit his home's outside wall running, managing to grab the edge of the roof and pull himself. He leans down, grabbing his wife and pulling her up just as the water crashes into the house, shaking it, but it holds. For the moment.

<We've got vehicles that need help, and there's people in that visitor's center. Call out who you're helping. Quinjets ferry people as we pull them out!> Captain America says into the comms. <Jan let us know if you can slow it down, we'll work this end.> He motions the pilot to fly up the valley from where it was hoving nearer to the bottom, taking him into the action.

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanoff would go to speak to Ward, "We save as many as we can. Then we go in and pull anyone out after. Arrange to have satellite uplink established and grid zones for sweeping. Keep me abreadst of anything eventful." The position in the Quinjet was necessary - and dangerous. Being on Overwatch, paying attention to a dozen different things while trying to keep the jet stable in the midst of the storms and chaos.
Natasha's going to then deploy along the area, grappling along as she would go towards the streets. Catching sight of the dam as she would swear under her breath in Russian. As pepole are going along down towards the visitor's center. Moving to fire off another grapple gun to try and make a beeline for the pinned civilians. <<Be ready to help extract!>>

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen will do the quick change like only a flash can, and he is then there in costume cycling through his com frequencies till he finds the right one, that the other heroes are on. He will then tell Phoebe the channel so she can get on it as well. He looks about to find the highest building and carries Phoebe with him so they can see where they are most needed and says "Where ya want to be?"

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe switches her com frequency as Impulse quick-changes, settling into hero mode as she pulls her domino mask from its pocket in her hood and applies it to her face, taking in all the information from the HUD as she looks about, getting everything tracked.

She brings up one hand, pointing to the crowd trying to out-run the waters and signs 'THERE'

The mage draws her hands up and readies her shielding --

She can deter some of the water and give Impulse extra time to get those afflicted out of the way of danger -- also lights up nice and bright to let others know where the teenage magician is as she spins up the lazily-turning eight-pointed stars of her shields!

Sunny Harlow has posed:
Well, as aliens who'd come to call home go, the big blue Man of Steel was going to be a hell of a lot more recognizable when he arrived than the blonde teen in the white and red cuit with the cape currently diving down towards the visitor's center. Then there were the jets, the streak of movement that -had- to be the Flash. This was...Amazing!

Any moment for Sunny to be starstruck was over after she put down the car she was carrying when the dam gave way and ramped things up. Oh crap!

Still 'Indestructibelle' might not have a hope in hell of stopping the water, but she could practically juggle cars if she wanted so...improvise time! Flying down and snatching people one by one at full speed would be a good way to end up with broken bones or worse so she zips down towards the balcony, coming to level with the victims for a moment. "Hold on to the rail!" she calls over the din before she zips beneath the balcony and gives a grunt of effort.

Six people at once was too big for her arms, but it seemed 'Belle was trying to lift the balcony itself off the building and the people to safety aboard it.

Grant Ward has posed:
"And to think a few hours ago I was in a barfight in Killarney. Welcome back to the states Ward." The agent quickly moved to follow Nat out of the quin jet, sliding down the rope and to the paths and roads below. A word spoken in his coms to his fellow Agent <I'll see to the vistor's center.>

People are scrambling in panic to make their way to the building in an attempt to find some shelter or potential safety from the oncoming deluge. It is fairly good stampeded of people, trying their best to force there way in through the few doors at the entrance The screams of panic still heard over the approaching water.

In his path to the Visitor Center he catches a different high pitched cry, that of a small child screaming alone and frozen where she stands. A re-direction in his path and in a running motion the SHIELD agent scoops up the young girl and continues his dash to the doors of the visitor center <This is going to be close Nat>.

As he manages to make his way into the entrance of the building, Ward calls out to the crowd standing there, a crowd wide-eyed and in a state of panic. "Second floor. Stairs only. Stay out of the elevators." He then turns to the girl he is carrying., noticing the water seeping under the doors to make a small puddle on the lower floor. "Just don't let go. Got it?"

Clark Kent has posed:
Coming up to the asteroid, he lets it glide past him, which takes a few seconds. It really is a big one, but in a few moments it will stop being Earth's problem. Turning around, he accelerates toward the rear of the thing and looks it over. There are a few likely handholds, so he moves in and gets enough of a grip to redirect it's path.

Knowing quite well that there are a lot of inhabited planets in the universe that it might someday endanger if he just sends it off in a random direction, he aims it at the safest place possible - the sun. Even a rock this size will do nothing to the source of Earth's light and heat. It takes just a small exertion to redirect the asteroid, then he sights along it's path to make sure he has it moving in the right direction.

Time to head back and see what today has to throw at him once he's home. He's not making any effort to speed back when he gets back into comm range of the Watchtower. Checking in with the base, he's informed of the emergency in Massachusetts and accelerates to top speed, hoping he gets there before anyone is hurt.l

Janet van Dyne has posed:
Janet reappears about fifteen feet above the ground next to the river and lands in a crouch. When she stands she's already surging to twenty-five feet tall; a few long counts and she hits something near 50', easily tall as the dam itself and slogging through the running water with a ponderous, determined step.

"<This concrete is breaking apart,>" Janet announces over the com 'net in a grim tone. "<I'm going to try to shore things up but I don't think I can do much here except stall for time.>"

She casts around and picks up a few larger chunks of concrete that must weigh a ton each. They're jammed awkwardly into the top of the dam and she scoops up several palmfuls of mud-- each hand the size of a bulldozer scoop-- and jams it into place along with branches, tree trunks, and whatever else she can collect.

"<Nats, you need me back there? Or do you and Agent Cheekbones have it handled?>" she inquires, and chances a glance over her shoulder at the water coursing through the town.

Steve Rogers has posed:
As Black Widow heads for civilians, SHIELD respond, and Balm buys Impulse time to make rescues, Steve Rogers in the Quinjet motions towards the couple that just made it onto their roof as the wall of water slammed into their home. "Take me over them," he tells the pilot and then hustles to the back of the jet to open the ramp. He grabs a line attached to a winch, fastening it about his waist while the Jet reaches the house and begins descending, a good fifty feet above the roof still.

Captain America jumps out of the back of the plane, then brings his starred shield beneath him. Steve's body curls into the hollow, the shield slamnming into the roof and taking the worst of the impact. Though that's going to smart in the morning. "Sorry about the shingles," Steve says politely to the couple as he rises to his feet. "Come on let's get you both out of here."

As he steps over to the man and woman, he sees a caped heroine lifting the entire balcony of the visitor's center to carry the half dozen people to safety. Cap gives Sunny a thumbs up and then puts an arm around the waists of the man and woman. <Reel us in!> he calls over comms. The copilot has moved back to the winch and quickly pulls them into the air and up towards the hovering plane.

Their feet clear the home's roof by no more than ten feet before the entire building shudders under the constant rush of water, and is swept away to become debris in the churning torrent.

Further down the valley, the artist colony is in the path of the flood. A beautiful ring of cabins and two small buildings used as galleries, with a nicely maintained greenery in the middle for artists to show off their skills outdoors. There are artists and some tourist, by now aware of the flood and running, some for higher ground, others heading for vehicles as if hoping to outrace the fast-moving waters. A pregnant woman with a stroller falls, gets up and snatches the young'un from the stroller as she runs for a minivan.

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Now the tricky part comes. Not just lifting the place up, but getting the civilians up and out. There's not the time now to take them up by winch. "Everyone, stay as still as you can." She warns, even as she goes to fire off her own grapple to head up to the Quinjet. She's leaving the getting the civilians up to it to the others. She's going to reel hereslf up, moving to head into the cockpit while heading in..
Then going to help the pilot in keeping the thing stable as the dam broke. They needed to keep it a good enough platform to not have anyone being thrown around. She's going to try and keep the Quinjet as stable as she can while trusting the others to get the civilians up and over to it.

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen looks about and spots a construction yard. He might not be the Flash at least not yet, but he will do in a pinch. He is off, and a speed blur is saw between the construction yard and the cabins. As Bart brings his own artistic flair to the front Soon a large boat's bow is built. It is not the whole boat, but the size and shape of it should send the waters off to the sides, and protect the cabins and those in the. If someone was to look closely Impulse's Boat bow, has a name on the side Queen's Ark.

Sunny Harlow has posed:
Captain America just gave her a thumbs up? It was like those High-school PSA's all over again...except more awesome. She could gush about it later to her parents when she wasn't in the midst of carrying people clear to safety. Up, up and away from danger the Balcony was lifted out of the way, well and clear up above the scene to be set down at level with the sides of the dam, lest the jet get overloaded...then there was a crack of the sound barrier and a gust of disturbed air as she turned around, headed to try and grab the next person, cluster of people (or perhaps minivan!) that were out of immediate rescue range of the others.

Janet's super-sized plugging? That. Was. Awesome...but it might not hold very long.

Grant Ward has posed:
Two stories. Twenty feet. It was a start and would buy time. With the child still in his arms, Agent Ward sloshes through the now ankle deep water to one of the visitor center workers trying to assisy in organizing the acent of the stairs by the paniced patrons. "Roof hatch. You have one right?"

The elderly man nods quickly and stammers. "Yes. Off the back storage behind the offices."

"Excellent..Burt." A quick reading of the name tag. His voice called out through the visitor center. "We are all going to follow Burt. Let him through." The crowd began to part slowly on the stairs as the older man ascended. "Now Burt...everyone on the roof. Got it?"

The water was starting to fill mor equickly, up to his knees now as many still remained, pushing and shoving for for their chance to ascend the stairs. "Children first and those unable to swim." The crowd began to nod, finally some sense kicking in with some direction. Children were being thrust towards the front with at least one parent and the elderly as well.

What soon remained on the base floor awaiting their chance to climb the stairs were mostly those who seemed capable of riding out the rising water <Nat. I got a whole bunch headed to the visitor center roof down here. I think they want their tour to be over.>

It was then that he handed the yong girl off to a woman starting to ascend the stairs. "You are going to alright. I promise. Go with this nice lady. You are going to take a little plane ride. I'll see you soon." Agent Ward then went back to seeing to the steady flow of those eascaping the rising waters.

Kitora Alua has posed:
A red gleam is coming from the southwest as a tiny figure is traveling horizontally at high speed - when it resolves closer, it's a young woman who has an eerie red glow throughout her body, and even has a few glowy bits INSIDE HER arms and legs and chest and head. She is eating a protien bar as she travels and stops above the dam, hovering there, STARING at the scenario. "Holy crap..." she whispers as she descends towards the dam.

She starts looking around in almost an overwhelmed panic for objects she can use - preferably chunks of the collapsing dam - that she can utilize to try to put back as she is a hundred feet over it - seeing other activity like the blur of someone VERY FAST. And... someone moving chunks of concrete who's HUGE!

Well, she can work with that as she moes over Janet's head, and focuses downward, as the effors of Janet start to glow red - the concrete chunks already placed getting heavier. This new girl is sweating a bit - it's a lot to do with so little time as she thinks of another strategy.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
The waters are parted and diverted as the hooded magician buys time for the speedy Impulse to make way with the rescue of the hikers, and she finds herself picked up and placed on the bow of the swiftly moving Queen's Ark.

Alas, she can't see the name of this worthy vessel to give a laugh about it. The dam's walls are being replaced, and she can hear the quinjets over head, her fingers curling slightly as she holds to the bow of the boat before she spies another group.

WIth the red and white blur from above sweeping in to grab the minivan, with its trio of occupants, she gives a slight nod before she takes to the air herself, and she begins to sweep the waters, translucent rose-gold wings spread as she begins to speed back and forth, plucking from the flotsam and jetsam of the flood.

Clark Kent has posed:
Accelerating until he's just a blue and red blur Superman hurtles through space, aware that every extra second he takes to get there is time that someone in the path of the flood might not have. He's come to terms with the fact that he can't stop every crime or disaster that happens on the planet, but that doesn't mean he won't try. Blasting past the moon, he angles for the eastern United States, hitting the atmosphere above Virginia. People between Virginia and Massachusetts are treated to a streak of fire as he burns through the atmosphere at high speed, unbothered by the heat of reentry.

Slowing down before losing altitude so the sonic boom doesn't do any damage on the ground, he scans the ground below for the disaster. It's not hard to spot with Quinjets and flying heroes, and the Man of Steel dives down through the atmosphere, red cape flapping behind him. He comes to a stop, hovering over the valley and takes a moment to look at what's going on and where he can best help.

Janet van Dyne has posed:
"What the fu--" Janet steps back warily from the dam, hands splaying in front of her as if warding off some hidden danger. It takes her a second to realize Kitora's likely the one contributing to the situation.

"Is this you?" she demands of Kitora in that huge, resonant voice, and points at the red rocks. "Gimme some warning first, okay? Are you trying to bake the mud or like..." she gives Kitora an expectant look and snaps her fingers twice, with an echoing report like falling timber striking another tree.

Another leak springs and Janet slaps a giant double-palmful of mud against the break, and braces up the concrete with two more tree masts and a handful of rocks the size of basketballs.

"<We're slowing it down but I'm gonna run out of boulders at this rate,>" Janet says. She casts around for clever options. "<If anyone's got a brilliant idea about how to blockade the river, I'd love to hear it!>"

Kitora Alua has posed:
Kitora Alua blinks. "Yes... I can control gravity..." she states, descending closer to Janet's huge head. "I thought I could make the concrete more dense to hold it in place. It's holding for now. But I can't really control that much water - it's too much." She is now hovering twenty feet over the rocks she's affecting. "If you can bring me more material, I can make it more dense so it'll hold... but I don't know what our endgame is going to be - the whole thing is falling apart. We're just delaying the inevitable!" She has her eyes down, and doesn't notice the arrival of the Man of Steel. She glances at the trees, but doesn't try too hard on them for they probably couldn't handle the density but her area is holding for now - but the strain is showing on her face. Her glowing aura flickers for a moment before restabilizing. She fears that there's no saving it and they'll have to chase teh water and rescue people... she can hold it for a time - but not indefinitely. Everything Janet puts on the dam glows with increased density - but the young mutant isn't sure how long she can do so.

Steve Rogers has posed:
The efforts of Kitora and the gigantic Wasp have managed to slow the release of the flood waters, but not staunch them. Even as they do their best to narrow that giant fissure in the dam, more cracks continue to spider-web across the structure. Up until now only a small portion of the dam was physically broken up.

But the two heroines can feel and see the rest of the dam shuddering and then the collapse spreads across, concrete stressed as far as it can go and giving way, the wall of water pouring through magnifying twenty-fold!

Down the canyon a little further, the heroes have managed to save people here and there. Sunny flies the minivan and others to safety. Artists and tourists duck behind the barrier shaped like a ship's prow that Impulse has made to divert the waters, while his partner flies overhead rendering assistance. The two SHIELD agents are able to get people onto the Quinjet before the visitor's center will be demolished by the increased rush of water.

But further down, people are getting swept into the flood waters themselves. <Wasp, any other fliers. There's people in the water the rest of us can't get to! Can you assist?>

Cap waves the pilot to head down the canyon. "Sir, up ahead, I think that's Superman!" Steve leans forward to peer out of the cockpit and says, "Raise him on comms." The copilot is wrapping the couple in a blanket.

<Superman, can you seal that dam? We'll try to keep helping the people, over!> Cap transmits to him.

Up ahead a couple are up on their roof. The man has an axe and is swinging it to cut into the roof. "Drop me there," Cap says, pointing. The plane flies over, lowering this time and he leaps out.

"My mother is stuck below in her wheelchair!" he says. Cap looks at the rising waters and motions for the man to stand back. He pulls off his shield and begins smashing through the roof, quickly making a hole and climbing down into the quickly flooding interior.

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Excellent. Reinforcements are here. The longer the dam takes to fully break, the better off they are with evacuating. With the Quinjet Natasha is in stabilizing, she goes to adjust the positioning. Shifting the thrusters to maneuver it around like a jump-jet, she moves to twirl it to have it face backwards towards where civilians were being lead up and away.
She lowers the boarding ramp, working with the pilot to keep the platform stable.
Keeping a large assault jet stable for pepole on food in the midst of the raging elements is difficult. But the pilot manages it. Natasha is rapidly switching from secondary systems to secondary ones, monitoring breaks in the dam, position of civilians, and the other heroes that have shown up. She's not bothering to ask for status updates. The others will do their job.
At the comm from Janet, Natasha goes to rapidly calculate distance, individuals present..
"I think this is a job for Superman."

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen looks over and gives Balm a thumbs up and is back heading towards the on rush of water trying to beat it to a little shop. Pouring on the speed, Impulses rushes into the little shop and out back to the ark area with his arms full over and over the young man goes until the water is hitting the building and starting to sweep it away he comes running out of it, with plastic bags cradled in his arms. His feed hit the sign for the shop as it is swept off the building and he uses it to push off and towards safety area. Dunhaven's Pet shop has been cleaned out even the fishys as this raging water is no place for man, beast, fish or fowl. He pausing on the top of the ark, hands on his thighs panting a moment.

Sunny Harlow has posed:
One person in a wheelchair? Sunny could certainly sort that out, stopping the dam? Well and truely above her ability though. Then again, Cap was on it. Okay! Time to fish people out of the water!

Of course, fast and strong as she was there was only so much 'space' with her arms to lift people out of the flood and up to safety.

She was helping... but Indestructibelle needed help!

Grant Ward has posed:
The sound of rushing water grows louder and it does not take a genius to determine that the dam had given way even more. With the last of the civilians in the visitor center upon the roof and boarding the Quinjet, Ward makes his way across the roof to ascend the ramp as well. The footing beneath him becomes more unstable as the foundation of the Visitor Center starts to move and crumble from the rushing water; paerts of the visitor center tearing away including part of the roof.

A completely drenched Grant dashes up the ramp, calling into the coms <Go! Go!> The only words he manages to get out between breaths.

Exausted, the Agent finds a space between those rescued and settles down on the floor, leaning against the inside of the jet, for the moment burying his head to his knees.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Phoebe can't respond over the coms, but actions always speak louder than words do, her dark eyes, lit up by the blue of her HUD, look to a wave heading towards a facotry where people are trying to get to the roof in time.

... there might not be time to get them out. BUt there was something she could do.

She dips once towards the water, owl-like wings silent as she places another person to safety before the wings flap, and she arcs overhead, casting pink shadows on the waters.

First stop: Her backpack, full of fudge and saltwater taffy is dropped on top of Impulse. Gotta keep the Speedsters calories and carbload up!

She smiles in passing and signs 'save me a piece', and then decends to the factory.

The wave of the water is rising, dirty and full of debris and all of the dangers a flood can possess.

Time to make a second safe haven -- spraypaint from her bag comes out, and there is a neat circle drawn on the roof of the factory, and with a click of her fingers the circle is cast in flame, glowing gold around her before she lowers her magic-tattooed-wings, her eyes uplifting once, and then closing as she concentrates her magic.

The eight-pointed star of her magical sheild rises up, then grows and multiplies, amplified by the circle, rising up above the wave oncoming to the factory.

The young woman braces to hold her place against the impact of the water, but the factory is shielded now, all around, and up, creating an additional, mid-flow drop point for those still flying and doing the rescuing as the shield wraps itself around the factory and extends upwards -- a reverse fishbowl!

Bart's HUD might pop with 'let them know i have created a nu drop zne'

Clark Kent has posed:
Catching a movement in the water below, Superman swoops down and pulls the source of that movement from the flood. He moves to higher ground to the side of the valley and sends the pup on it's way with a little pat on the head, then launches himself up the valley towards the dam. Taking in Janet and Kitora's work and how despite their best efforts it is still leaking water and threatening to crumble in other places, he comes to a decision.

"Janet, would you and your friend there see if you can help anyone still caught in the water? I'll deal with this for the moment. I'll probably need your help for a more permanent solution, but let's worry about people first."

Once the Wasp moves out of the way, he inhales deeply, then blows out a jet of supercooled air. In seconds a layer of ice forms over the part of the dam he's cooling down. He starts to drift all along the dam, taking additional breaths so he can keep freezing the water. Soon enough the entire dam has a thick coating of ice over it, and the water escaping has slowed to a trickle.

Looking over his handiwork, he nods and then turns to the valley below the dam to make sure everyone who needs it is being rescued. The other heroes and agents seem to be doing a good job on that front, so he turns back to the dam and considers the situation. The ice is going to melt well before the dam can be rebuilt, so further action is needed.

Raising his voice to carry over all the noise, he calls out "Any of you who can fetch large boulders and other rocks, pile them in front of the dam. We're going to build a temporary dam that won't melt in the sun."

Janet van Dyne has posed:
Janet staggers back a step and rests her hands on her knees, gulping down air as fast as she can without hyperventilating. Even with her adaptive metabolism, there is only so far biology can go in the face of the peculiar physics of the Pym Particles.

Still, she manages a ragged grin at Superman, nodding once. "Can do, handsome," Janet says, and reaches out with an index finger the size of a log as if tapping him on the nose. "Good timing by the way, the humidity's killing my hair."

"<I'm making my way up the river, I'll sweep up any stragglers,>" Janet affirms into her headset. She wades through the comparatively calf-deep rush of water with carefully placed steps, plucking people up and setting them on firmer ground. When she gets to Sunny she braces herself and helps lift the rest of the stranded out of the water so Sunny can safely deliver them-- as well as make sure Sunny herself doesn't get swept along with the water.

Relieved of passengers, her last task is to put her shoulder against a broken stretch of asphalt bridge and wedge it into the torrent at an angle to divert a good deal of the water towards the pastures on the other side of the village.

With that task done, Janet staggers out of the river flow and drops onto the ground on her rear with enough force to be felt even against the torrential flood.

"<I'll help fix the damn in a minute, I just... *phew*,>" Janet announces, and props her weight behind her on one giant hand so she can wipe off a burst of rain worth of water clinging to her face.

Kitora Alua has posed:
Kitora Alua stares in awe at THE SUPERMAN temporarily sealing the dam. She looks between the dam and downstream. But she can feel her strength waning - she has never put herself to the test quite like this... and people are easier to move than boulders so she starts drifting downstream, snagging anyone she finds in a stasis field around her to get them to safety, with the people safely esconced in a null-gravity bubble.

She manages to grab ten people including one on a roof and a person trapped in their car, and safely deposits them in a safe area, telling themall the while that she's trying to rescue them. She lands in a safe area... and she sinks to her knees, her aura winking out as she almost collapses, now just a normal-looking girl with fire-truck-red hair as she just lies there by the peple she saved, panting.

Steve Rogers has posed:
Superman is able to freeze the wall of water at the dam. The flow slacks off but there's so much water that made it out. The Gigantic Wasp manages to save a whole section of the town with her quick thinking using the damaged bridge to shunt the flow away from it.

Dozens of people are plucked from the water by Sunny, Wasp and Kitorra. Impulse makes sure there will be pets aplenty in the town's future, if perhaps with a lull while insurance pays to rebuild things. And the workers at the factory have Balm to thank for their lives. A month later she'll receive a classic stained glass window they make for her, depicting the moment, assuming they can get it to her.

Natasha and Grant get the people to safety, and can see vehicles and people winding up the roads up the sides of the valleys, having fled on their own.

The man on the roof reaches down into the hole, pulling up his mother carefully. Captain America climbs out after her, returning his shield to back. He's soaking wet and there is debris stuck to his costume. He takes the man's mother, lifting her carefully as the Quinjet is skillfully piloted down so they can climb into the back ramp.

<Well done everyone. Superman, appreciate your help. The Massachusetts National Guard has helicopters coming in to help with evac, and is setting up medical facilities on the ridges above the town.>

Grant Ward has posed:
With word received about the medical facilities being setup on the ridges above town, the Quinjet with the Vistor Center rescued makes it way there, landing in a safe spot as Natasha and Grant assist in their unloading and handoff to medical personal.

One particular little girl exits the Quinjet with her found parents. After a few thank-yous, Grant lowers himself to the young girl's level and removes something from his pants pocket. The objbect is placed in her tiny hand as he gently curls her fingers around it. "We could use brave little girls like you."

He then stands up and moves on to assit more off the Quinjet. The little girl then turns to her parents and opens her hand evealing what was in it: a small metal SHIELD badge. Afterall, the report was going to say he lost in in the flood anyhow.

Thus, Grant and Nat would see to it that all the citizens were in the proper hands of medical staff, then returning to the Quinjet for an eventual trip home.

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen will thank Balm for the food and about half of it is downed in less than half a second, before Bart calls over the coms "White glowy bubble is a save zone, get the people there and the will be safe, pretty sure Balm has it so people can pass through it but nothing else can." He makes an assumption hoping no one ill pull a Wile E Coyote on it. He ill start spinning his arms in a classic flash move to help press the water back with the force of the air, now that he has a sugar rush.

Sunny Harlow has posed:
Sunny was damn glad to see a professional with her power-set and then some. And she was getting given orders! Boulders, boulders she could move! Still, eventually the day was saved and the blonde woman comes to settle herself down atop by the safezones. Her white and red suit was completely covered in mud and grime...but at least she could say she helped!

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Listening to the coms, Balm gives A Face at the idea of someone trying to barge in through the wards and the shields. Bleh, Bad Times all around.

She does activate a Beacon though, reaching to her pack to throw a colored smoke bomb in the air to mark it!

You know. Just in case it's not obvious by GIANT GLOWING SHIIIIEEELDS.

But after this is done, she's going to be happy for a blanket, a thank you, and hopefully salt water taffy.

Kitora Alua has posed:
Kitora Alua rises to her feet and smiles as she gives a hug to a few people that she rescued, then tells them good luck. She looks for a quinjet, then nods, glowing once more as she floats upwards, and heads towards it. When she gets there she knocks on the hatch and if someone answers, asks for a ride back to New York's Westchester County - saying that she's too tired to fly back alone.

Clark Kent has posed:
Zooming around the valley, Superman collects boulders, parts of the dam, basically anything heavy enough to be part of a makeshift dam. As he and any of the others helping get rocks into place, he begins using his heat vision to melt them together, forming a rough temporary dam in front of the broken one. Trenches are dug giving water a place to channel around the new dam and down the river as it should. The river will have a little more water running down it since there's no adjusting the flow, but at least it won't be flooding the towns downstream.

Finally turning from the dam to face all the others who have worked to avert this disaster and save the people caught in it, he raises his voice again to address them.

"My friends, I'd like to thank you all for your courageous work today. We've managed to avert what could have been a major disaster and loss of life thanks to all your actions. I salute each and every one of you who hurried from your normal lives to risk yourselves for the people here today. Now, I think all of us are looking forward to a shower to get all the mud off." With a wave, he launches himself upwards, then turns towards Metropolis and vanishes into the distance.
