Vampire Interview with the JLD
Date of Scene: 03 October 2022
Location: Candle, Booke and Belle
Synopsis: Ariah and Gabby meet over a cup of tea. The JLD is discussed and information exchanged.
Cast of Characters: Gabby Kinney, Ariah Olivie

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney had been spending more and more time in the tea shop. At first the scent of all the teas and incense and candles mingled together was a bit overpowering for her. It still wasn't pleasant, but she was more familiar with it all now. The fact that she had herself a lovely cup of purple tea in a peacock decorated cup. It's held in hand raised up near her chin to continually inhale the pleasant scent while she takes a sip on occasion while she sits at the counter near the back. On the customer side, not the business side.

A book is next to her which she idly flips through. It's nothing serious, if anything it's just a herbology book showing various diagrams and drawings of herbs and their supposed uses.

Ariah Olivie has posed:
Though she can easily withstand the sunlight, the small French woman is much more active after dark. With autumn rolling in, it makes life all the easier. Night life, that is. Still, instead of looking for treats and tricks, Ariah follows the instructions her new acquaintance had left her to find a certain shop. And a certain shop she now steps into, opening the door and then pausing no more than two steps in.

Those mismatched eyes of hers open a little bit wide and she can easily be seen standing there breathing -deep- the scents of herbs and teas. Maybe a little overwhelming, given her enhanced senses, but she doesn't seem to be completely halted in her tracks. After a moment, she takes in the rest of the shop and manages to spot a familiar form: Gabby. Slowly but purposefully, Ariah approaches, not making any effort to mask the sound her boots make on the floor.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
"If you're looking for Nettie, she's caught up in some kerfluffle in the back. Something about a shipment not matching," Gabby speaks up without looking up just yet. Possibly because she takes a sniff of her tea once more, followed by a sip, and then rests her finger over the spot she'd been reading so she doesn't lose her spot.

Only then does she glance up and over to spot the pale haired French woman. With a broad grin she blurts out, "Oh, it's you! Bon soir!" The book is nudged back with her fingertips forgoing it for now. She could find her spot later as she regards the other. "Sorry about... uh, the smell. It is a bit much at first. Nettie's better at tea than I am but if you'd like a cup I'm sure I can get one for you."

Ariah Olivie has posed:
"Bonsoir, ma chere," Ariah greets in return, nodding politely. Her demeanor remains detached, chilly even. Her voice close to deadpan monotone. She glances at the bar, then Gabby's cup, and then back up at the woman's face before nodding slowly. "Oui, I would not mind a cup. Merci. What kind is there?" she inquires, idly folding an arm across her waist, the other hand's fingers curling around the wrist. "The other one said I should come here," she states, "Madame Lydia?"

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney slips off her stool to place her peacock teacup down. It was very, very colorful to say the least. She slips behind the counter to stare at the arrangement of teas. "There's that purple one I was drinking. Nettie gave it to me to help with the smell of everything here," she explains with a hand lifting to gesture around at the room in general.

"There's London Fog, Earl Grey, Lady Grey, some kind of gold tea that costs a fortune and Nettie is very angry at having here." The jar in question is held up, tilted into the light, and squinted at. "I think it's actually coated in gold flake. That seems a bit wasteful." Shrugging she sets it badk down.

"A lot of tea. There's also one just labeled 'guest mix' which doesn't smell bad at all." With as many teas as can be listed off, and likely numerous more available, she reaches out to place a teacup and saucer on the countertop for Ariah. This one was NOT a colorful peacock, but an creamy white with elegant gold filligree designed along the rim.

"If there's something you prefer I can look for it. I mean, it's a tea shop," she adds with a grin. "There's so many. And yeah, Lydia's a friend and teammate of mine." A deep breath is drawn as she considers the other woman. "If you have any questions at all... Even about the JLD, let me know."

Ariah Olivie has posed:
Ariah listens intently, maintaining her neutral expression. "Earl Grey, please. Vanilla cream?" she then asks. For as cold as she is, she's ever so polite, too. The smaller woman looks around again, taking in the sight of the place. Its antiquity. Its collection of -things-. Then she returns her focus to Gabby without skipping a beat when she's asked. "Lydia said you help people. Tell me about what it is you do?"

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney rummages around under the cupboard a moment to find what was necessary. A pot was already steaming hot so it was an easy enough matter to measure out some of the tea leaves into a strainer, and pour the liquid over it. Soon enough there's a steaming cup being filled with a little cream as requested dashed in before the pour. She'd learned from coffee that cream first meant it wouldn't scald the cream.

"Yes. It's hard to just say we do one thing. We're a group of people, familiar with the occult or supernatural ourselves in some way. Everyone has their own specialty. My sister was a sorceress," she begins, glancing up to flash a smile. "And French like yourself so I apologize for my horrible accent. I'm just from the US."

"Anyway. Curses. Demons. Ghosts. Whatever might be causing problems, we help."

Ariah Olivie has posed:
The smaller woman watches with interest, eyes following Gabby's hands, seeing how she does this, or that, with the cream, the leaves, everything. She's very observant. And when she speaks, Ariah looks her in the face, attentive. "Was?" she inquires about the sister, "Is she around? Or still in France?" she finds curiosity taking her off on a tangent before returning to the matter at hand.

"I am experienced in... things. Do you... require a test or a resume?"

Gabby Kinney has posed:
"Oh! Sorry, I've lost a lot of sisters so it's habit to..." Gabby quickly shakes her head. "She's still alive. She was one of the prior leaders of our group, and ended up going off with another of the leaders to explore their feelings for one another. So she's fine but out of reach and retired as it were." There's a little sadness there to her explanation. It's not dwelled on though. "I've got a lot of siblings. I'm the youngest that I'm aware of. My family is very long-lived," she explains with a faint shrug.

A reassuring smile is offered as she comes back around the counter to retreive her own cup again. "Not really. Usually we just talk. Get an idea of you, your history or abilities. Then you can come in as a prospective member and see how you work with the team. And," she assures quickly, "I don't expect everyone to work together instantly. I know magic users are a rather solo lot usually. Just to see how personalities mesh, that sort of thing."

Ariah Olivie has posed:
"My family is gone, I understand," Ariah says simply, slowly nodding her head. "You say long lived. I wonder if I have ever met any of them. Share similar blood?" she muses aloud, letting her mind drift along a flight of fancy for a moment before returning back to reality. "Only family now is Madame," she then states. Her eyes follow Gabby but her head doesn't turn and she takes up her own cup before actually rotating herself to face the other woman.

"Happy to talk. Answer questions," she says quietly, cradling the saucer in both hands now, letting the warmth bleeding through from the cup warm her. "Have worked with people before. Also good at working alone. Few friends..." she adds, trailing off. "Perhaps more?"

Gabby Kinney has posed:
"Possibly. My father's been all over the world in his time. I know he's spent a good deal of time in Japan, but he also fought in the world wars." Plural. Gabby can only shrug faintly. "There's a lot I've not met, and only know through name. It's always based on a relation of some sort to dad though."

When Ariah begins to speak more easily she allows herself a grin. "I hope so! Friends are always a great thing to have. So, let me explain a bit more fully. I'm Gabby, and I'm currently one of the leads of the Justice League Dark. I stepped up after my sister and the others left because at the time everyone was rather worn out from a battle against some unpleasant old ones that we managed to send back to their own dimension."

A small shrug is offered. "I'm not a magic user myself, but I have a few enchanted items to work with. I'm willing to help, I know how to fight, and how to work with a team. So I'm using my more mundane experience to help run the JLD to take pressure off of those who are more skilled in those areas."

Ariah Olivie has posed:
Ariah tilts her head at the mention of the world wars. "...maybe I met him... where did he fight?" she asks, wondering if Gabby has more details. "...second world war," she then clarifies. The likelyhood she's related to Gabby, albeit distantly, might not be entirely out of the realm of possibility. Then she dipsher head, sniffing at her tea, then flicks her tongue out to test the heat with it. Just a little 'mlem' that stabs at the surface of the liquid as she listens to Gabby speak.

"Ariah," she states, by way of introduction. "Am capable of magic. Good at fighting. Strong. Fast. Always try to do good things. Too much, too many bad things and people out there." She still keeps things light on the details, however.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney shakes her head a little at the question of where he served. All she can do is offer a small shrug of uncertainty to respond. "He doesn't speak much of it, so I don't know details or locations. I've met some people he's fought with and the older sister I met was born around then. I think her mom was part of the French Resistance somewhere. And a witch," she adds with a chuckle. "But again, don't know many details."

When Ariah begins to explain what she is and isn't good at she nods, listening intently. "Can I ask how you knew Lydia didn't have a heartbeat?" If it weren't for the wording it would seem an innocent question how it's asked, but being able to hear a heartbeat wasn't something everyone could do.

Ariah Olivie has posed:
Another slow nod, this time Ariah picks up her tea properly and takes a small sip of it as she listens. "Would like to see him sometime, am curious if we met..." she muses after a few moments. "If I knew your sister's mother." More thoughts wander, but she doesn't linger on them. No point in asking if Gabby doesn't know the details, after all. Would be rude of her to do so. Then comes the question of her senses. She takes another long sip of the tea before answering.

"Lydia and I are similar," she answers. "...similar cloth, not same. I would not have made mention of it except that you both were inquiring of magic and... things. It is often best to keep such knowledge secret, non?" the small woman suggests. She does, however, make a point of letting her fangs extend, allowing Gabby to see them, before closing her lips over the rim of the teacup again.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney flashes a grin in spite of the fangs that are shown. She's not afraid at all nor does she seem hugely surprised. Maybe she already guessed, or perhaps she's just expecting something other than the 'usual' when dealing with people in regards to this business.

"Ah, okay. Vampire then?" Her voice is kept low though there really was no one else in the shop to overhear it would seem. Even so it's only polite not to blurt things out loud. "I know a few, as well as Lydia," she explains with a simple nod. "Just as I know some demons that aren't the sort we need to fight. Well, if you're interested in helping out with us in the future, we'd be glad to have you, Ariah."

Ariah Olivie has posed:
"Oui, vampire," Ariah answers, confirming, voice staying low. "Everyone is to be based on their individual merits, non?" she inquires, hearing about the demons. "Vampire. Sorceress. Witch. Soldier." A simple list, a rundown of what she is, in terms of combat utility, perhaps. "I do other things, too, but... less related?" she offers, lifting her shoulders in a small shrug. Another slow sip of tea is taken before she speaks again. "If you would have me, I would help."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney extends her hand to shake with a nod. "Well, welcome in then. This is our current place to meet, and we have a training room in the back. Nettie runs the place. She's a witch that came out of retirement to help me run the JLD, so her word is law here. Though she's pretty no-nonsense," she assures.

Ariah Olivie has posed:
The hand is taken and her grasp is firm, warm. And not just from the tea. "Merci. It is. Much appreciated. It is nice to work with a group. It has been some time since the last. And the last... incident..." she muses, lips pursed in a small frown for a moment. Then she shakes her head, "Let me know what I can do, how I can help, and where I should be? I have an.. abundance of time at my disposal."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney shakes her hand in turn before withdrawing again to pull out a pad of paper, and a pen. "For now let's exchange information. I assume you have a phone?" She glances over uncertainly as she did know some older types that were a bit technology challenged. "Nothing at the moment is going on other than helping to arrange things with the group, meeting people like yourself, and so on. I'd like it if you could meet one of the other leads as well to get their take on it, but so far my vote's in. Nettie and Sara are the others."

Ariah Olivie has posed:
The assumption is correct, and Ariah pulls a phone out from a pocket hidden in her dress. "Oui, I do," she states. At least this witch has kept up on the times. "...I still am not very good with it..." she admits. Well, at least she's trying. It takes her a moment to fiddle with the screen and pull her number up but then she holds it out for Gabby to look over. "I will endeavor to meet them at their earliest convenience, then. Merci, Gabby." Her head bows politely, even if her hands are still full. Phone in one, tea saucer in the other.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney takes down the number, and then writes her own and the phone of the other leads as well. "Here. We send out mass messages sometimes if we need to do an update to the whole group, but that's more on our side than yours. Here's our numbers if you need or want to set something up." A grin is comes again and she shrugs. "Other than that, that's it for now. Unless you have any other questions?"

Ariah Olivie has posed:
Ariah takes her time to add the other numbers to her phone before secreting it away in her pocket. "Questions...?" she considers, then looks around. "...are there... any books.. or materials.. for rune inscribing here..?" she asks, taking the shop in again.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney has to look herself. "Mm. Probably?" There's an uncertain tone to her voice though. "Nettie tends to keep the legitimate stuff out of the actual shop so people don't do things accidentally. She'd be the one to check with I'm afraid."

Ariah Olivie has posed:
"Being that I should be speaking to her when I can..." Ariah rturns her gaze back to Gabby. "I will ask then, non?" she offers, lifting her shoulders in a shrug and working to slowly finish her tea. "Other questions... other..." she muses slowly to herself, head lolling to one side then the other. "I cannot think of any at present. We are all adept at keeping secrets, and lighting the dark places. It is a matter of making friends and earning trust."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney grins in apparent understanding of the situation with a solemn nod. "True enough. It was pleasant meeting you again. I should probably be heading off for the night myself, though." She glances outside with a sigh. "Got some work to do in my other job."

Ariah Olivie has posed:
Ariah blinks slowly and looks around at the shop that's empty aside from them. "...is it okay to leave the front unattended?" she asks, even though she recalls hearing that someone was indeed in the back. "I can stay here for a little while. Look around. I will not keep you, however." She looks down at her now-empty mug. "Merci, for the tea. How much do I owe for it?" she inquires, looking back up at Gabby's face.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney holds up her hand with a shake of her head. "Nothing, you're fine," she assures with a chuckle. "Nettie set this out for such talks. She says she doesn't sell enough and wants to make sure it's used before it loses it's good flavor. Though if you do want to buy something from her later, I'm sure she'd love it." Her head tips toward the back where people could be heard moving around. "It'll be fine. There's a guard bird on dity," she explains gesturing toward the sleeping raven in the corner that was wearing a... a tiny tricorne styled pirate hat.

Ariah Olivie has posed:
How did Ariah miss that. Or maybe she didn't and only just now is learning the bird is a guardian bird. She nods slowly at the raven and then looks back to Gabby. "I will buy some tea in the future. Among other things, if what I need is in stock... It is best to support you local business, non?" she suggests, then carefully puts the cup and saucer down. "If I am not needed at present, then I shall be on my way, too. More books to seek. Perhaps..." she pauses, a small glint in her eye. "Dinner. A pleasure meeting again, and I hope to be of help to the group."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney doesn't remark on dinner. That could have MULTIPLE meanings for someone of Ariah's nature, and frankly... So long as she was above board with everything, it wasn't really any of Gabby's concern. A grin is offered, along with a nod. "Ah, well good evening then! I should go grab something myself. Too much fast food lately," she admits with a sigh, and shake of her head. "Doesn't hurt me but I should probably eat healthier on occasion." The cup and saucer is picked up and set to be cleaned along with her own. "All right then. Have a good night, Ariah!"
