She's gonna run into somethin
Date of Scene: 03 October 2022
Location: Columbus Park
Synopsis: An afternoon of skating. It's exercise for the body and the soul.
Cast of Characters: Bunny Macleod, Rahne Sinclair

Bunny Macleod has posed:
"We get it on most every night when that moon gets big and bright -- it's a supernatural delight, everyone was dancing in the moonlight." Croons King Harvest from someone's big, bluetooth boom speaker. Christmas and small Edison-style light chains are hung from tree to tree, disrupting the Chinese vibe of the place. The majong tables have been commandeered ad are holding a bunch of fast food or easily shared items as the community of skaters descends. Everyone's wearing bright colors and light jackets, using the park as a gurella skating rink, but being friendly about it. Someone's pulled up a rickshaw of rental skates and is inviting people to try it out.

And among the chaos is Bunny's older brother Bastian, who was DJing up at the booth with a bunch of stolen vynils and his spotify playlist, and Bunny was trying to get people to parktake in her passtime.

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne licks the spoon of her yogurt as she watches Big Mac skate. She has hers on, but she's smiling and licking the vanilla yogurt with admiration. Not for the flavour, she doesn't ...licking yogurt isn't the point here. Shut up, she's trying to make sense in her head.

It's just that Bunny is so much better, and she doesn't mind watching someone who's just good enough to enjoy what they're doing. She still hasn't really gotten the hang of skating. But she has them over her shoulder, laced together.

She would be happy just watching, but no way she's gonna be allowed that. The people going left-right and enjoying themselves don't hide her near well enough for her to stay unnoticed. It's also kinda a catchy song.

The little wave is enough, she knows that Bunny will come over whenever.

Bunny Macleod has posed:
And Bunny does come over, skating backwards, smoothly drawing herself on one leg in order to bring her leg up and over the back of the bench in a Riker maneuver, and she gives a great big grin to Rahne.

"Hey there, Firehair. Come here often?" she jokes.

And that song is catchy, it's been stuck in Bunny's Player's head for an hour.

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne reaches up and pokes at Bunny's nose with a fingertip when she's close enough to do so. She has this innocence to her, it's hard to take offense. "No," she admits with a small tilt to her head. She leans and looks past Bunny toward her brother, then back to her.

Giving the small (smol) plastic container a lick, she sets it down along with the spoon. She stays standing though with her height it hardly makes a difference, and looks around at all the activity. She takes her time talking, that's for certain.

"Do ah need t' tag a shop t' play?" she asks, having totally done her research. Tagging is a thing, yes!

Bunny Macleod has posed:
"Nah, no tagging required. We just wanna have folks get out, have fun. Live's too short c'mon Rahne!" Bunny bounces from foot to foot, every inch of her overenergized teenage self looking around at everyone else, some trying skates for the first time, others trying to get muscle memory back from the 80's or 90's.

"This group likes to have fun and share the interest, 'cause without people picking it up, like any skill or art, eventually it fades away."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
With that, Rahne kneels. She gets her left foot into a skate the way she was shown by someone who looked a lot like Bunny because it was her, then starts lacing up. "I see y' boyfriend o'er thaur," she upnods at Bunny's brother and grins. "I be still in th' helmet an pads club m'sel."

She brought both, not wanting to have to regrow skin this evening. Suuuucks.

Then she switches feet, trying not to kick over her yogurt container.

Bunny Macleod has posed:
"Eeew, no, that's my brother Bastian, I'm single like Kraft American Cheez." the mis-spelling is audiable. "Don't need no one to tie me down. An' I still wear helmets and pads!" Bunny points out her Barbie Pink set. "because it's common sense and who wants to break an elbow?" she gives a bright smile to Rahne.

"So, we gonna work on backflips off the half-pipe tonight?"

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne raises an eyebrow quietly. She opens her mouth, then closes it. Looks left, then back. Then she says, "I can do a backflip if you wan'." She starts to unlace her skate that she JUST put on, the soul of patience. She can wait to get unbalanced and awkward, apparently.

Bunny Macleod has posed:
"What, no, I meant on skates, Rahne -- it was a joke." Bunny states gently, and she gives a soft smile. "I know you're still workin' on skating.. and I'm actually really happy you're giving it another try. We get a lot of people who try it once and then 'NEVAH AGAIN!'" Bunny states for dramatics, leaning back on her seat.

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
The dramatic move makes Rahne smile a little bit. She puts her other foot into skates, then tries to hunch down on them and tie them up. The slight downhill has her moving slowly backward, til her bottom bumps up against Bunny's seat.

She lifts her head, her pigtails bopping her on the forehead, then goes back to tying laces. Only then does she stand, using the brake right off. She learns pretty quick.

"Can do a backflip though," she says softly. "Someday on these too." Then she leans her head toward the asphalt?

Bunny Macleod has posed:
"That's right! Next step is to get you on four skates!" Bunny grins, hopping up and skating backwards from Rahne.

"So, what's been the craziest thing about coming to America? Portion sizes? Unlimited free refils on softdriniks? The amount of sugar we put in everything?" she asks, skating around Rahne a bit in order to make sure she's not about to fall over.

The DJ -- Bastian -- is now playing Philadelphia Freedom.

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
"Th' music," Rahne says, her voice barely audible now. She adjusts her helmet real quick, the strap cutting into her neck. "The music!" she says a bit louder, but then someone gets a little close and she has to do a turn and ...

You know how turning can be on skates if you aren't ready for it. Rahne is over on her butt in an instant. Whoof!

The guy turns and comes back, apologizing, but Rahne is smiling and waving it off. She taps her helmet, all good here.

Bunny Macleod has posed:
"Careful!" Bunny gives a grin, and she smiles, offering a hand up to Rahne, all smiles and freckles and blue eyes with her ridiculously colored hair.

"The music's pretty great! Bastian's going to drop one of my favorites after Sir Elton here!" she gives a smile, and offers to hold onto Rahne as she gets her balance again. "You got this, Red!"

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne clasps Bunny's hand at the wrist. She gets up, light as a metaphoric feather, and wobbles herself to a stance. Then she does a dramatic thumbs-up and attached grin, which looks all kinds of cute on her.

"Wait, do ah call y' Blue then?" she asks, as she starts to skate. Forward motion is easy, watch. I got this. It's like watching someone practice piano after four lessons. painful to watch, but at least she's earnest about trying.

Mind the dog, around the fountain, no wet. "Ah be used tae religious music mos'ly. This es nice."

Bunny Macleod has posed:
"Religious music's okay. I can Kirieye with the Rest of 'em, but I kinda like happy stuff. 70's and 80's and bubblegum pop. I play pianah sometimes and I like to bust out some Bonnie Tyler because people get drunk and throw money at you." the pink-haired girl replies, and she laughs, holding onto Rahne's hand lightly as they go.

"If there's something you wanna hear, lemmie know! I'll text Bas and he'll throw it on!" Bunny gives a bright smile.

    A high-power cover of 'I need a hero" comes on. https://youtu.be/LLgJ3JrtFTI

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne wasn't even aware of the hand in hers! She looks at it, then grins. And her head bops a bit left-right to the music. "Ah do some gospel," she says, a bit louder. "Is na really somethin y' get paid for."

Then she trips, using Bunny's hand to steady herself, and does NOT fall! She adjusts. "Woop!" Her legs are steady and strong, and in the shorts she's wearing it's obvious that she has gymnast's muscles in there.

"Hones'ly ah wouldna know wot t' ask for? Ah dinna know song titles." That could be an issue, if she's heard music but not learned what they're effing called!

Bunny Macleod has posed:
"That's okay! Sometime I'll dig out my laptop and we can go through songs until you know the name. Learning the name of your favorite song's kinda like knowing the name of your best friend!" Bunny smiles bright, raising a hhand to bring some pink flyaways back to her ear.

"You can get paid big bucks for gospel music! You just gotta keep your image squeaky clean and not have big breasts like Katy Perry! She used to sing gospel until her ladies were too notcible, now she's a pop star!"

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne glances down to her own rack a moment, her skin of her cheeks reddening slightly. "Y shouldna talk abou' tha in public," she says, not really sure she should correct anyone. This is America after all. "An...well, ah dinna really do much tha would give me a reputation." She's kind of staring ahead, now. She lacks experience? Or motivation.

Bunny Macleod has posed:
"What? Someone's chest? It's Twenty-Twenty-Two, Rahne, people have chests!" Bunny offhandedly comments, but she stops the line of conversation.

"What about American Food? What do you like most about it over Scottish?" she asks, still giving her gentle smile, trying to get Rahne to come out of her shell.

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne focuses on skating a little, not sure how exactly to respond. "People do," she says. She barely does. She...what, food? That makes her smile.

"Wot makes y' think ah like American food more'n Scottish?" she says, finally on good footing. "Y' got a bit o' pride there, hon." But then she skates a few steps, and thinks honestly. And says, "Milkshakes are best food, maybe."

Bunny Macleod has posed:
"Everyone knows American food is actually the worst thing for you, therefore MUST be the best tasting -- though I'll acknowledge that apparently you Scots like to deepfry everything. Deepfried candy bars are the *best* thing to come out of Scotland other than you."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
That makes her faceplant, that right there. Right, measuring her length on the concrete. Feet out from under her, and there's this redhead laying there.

Sigh, and she was doing so well too.

People start to slow down, to try and help out, and Rahne is apparently taking a moment to bang the front of her helmet on the ground. Stupid, stupid, stupid...

Bunny Macleod has posed:
"... uh... Rahne?" Bunny asks, slowly drifting to a stop, and then returning to the wolf's side.

"Rahne? You all right? Is it about the snickers bars?"

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
She rolls over, and is given hands to help her to her feet. She's hauled up, which doesn't take a ton of effort, but overall there's just a few scrapes. She's lost some skin on her nose, and a bit of a cheek, and some on an arm. But she looks more embarrased than hurt. That's good right?

"Ah be fine," she insists. Someone with a medical kit starts to come over, and she sighs. "Compliments. Es nobody's fault," she insists. But she does hold still while the med team takes a look.

Superficial, thankfully.

Bunny Macleod has posed:
"At least a lil' bactin or neosporin on it, so it doesn't scar up. Like mine. See?" Bunny lifts her arm and shows off a bit of scarring on her arm. "Road rash, got infected. Had to clean it with a steel brush!" she states, and then rubs the back of her head "You... ah... need a break?"

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
The redhead smiles, letting people dab and bandage as they see fit. She doesn't scar, and heals fast, but she doesn't need to make a big deal out of it so stays silent. She does look at the scar, and nods a lil bit.

"Maybe, for a bit? Want tae watch you all play, just for a while." She's okay, she likes to watch.

She's happy, at least. The compliment took her by surprise, that's all.

Bunny Macleod has posed:
"All right -- Hold tight, I'll go get us a couple of ice bars or somethin' once they finish up making sure you're not gonna scar up!" Bunny gives another bright grin, then turns and effortlessly skates across the park to some of the food trucks parked; she's gonna get some ice cream, and it'll be the best dang ice cream Rahne's had in skates!
