Widows in the Sky
Date of Scene: 18 December 2022
Location: Flight deck: Helicarrier
Synopsis: Yelena, Natasha, and Toni talk about flying, and Yelena plots skydiving. Off the Hellicarrier.
Cast of Characters: Natasha Romanoff, Yelena Belova, Toni Ho

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
The deck of the SHIELD Hellicarrier, two kilometers up in the air. There's heavy wind, it's freezing even for those used to the temperatures as they're ubndled up. Quinjets and fighters are being launched on assignments as teams deploy and return from various missions. Fighters are being refueled and undergoing maintenance and rearming. It's a relatively normal day. And today, the two Widows are merely hanging out there, looking out for things. And Yelena is getting to see the people like ants below.

Yelena Belova has posed:
Yelena is actually bundled up; she's got a white parka on, complete with a fur-lined hood that is pulled up and over her head. She is wearing long pants and comfortable but wool-lined boots on her feet. Hands are dropped deep into coat pockets, and is making the grand attempt to keep her back to the bulk of the wind. Not an easy task, certainly.

"It is colder than Siberia up here," her tones actually do hold that hint of enthusiasm, that level that is near 'this is very cool' tenor.

Twisting around as yet another Quin comes in for a landing, performing that Vertical Landing act for which they are so famous. It's hard to know what it looks like when within the aircraft, but up close and personal? Yelena leans to the side to comment with that so very familiar Russian lilt to her words, "Why cannot we get plane like that when we needed one? Rickety garbage instead; I was sure it would fall from sky." As she leans to talk, there is another aircraft that catches her attention...

An attack helicopter secured to the deck in chain and cable. "Whoooah. That, I want for Christmas."

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
It is cold. Even by Natasha's standards. And she's likewise bundled up. Over ins omething synthetic that does the same amount of insulation at far less weight. She doesn't have a set of goggles on but a scarf instead as she gazes down. "I thought you would like the view. However unfortunately due to being near the repulsors we can't take a paraglide off the side. And we'd need a target in mind anyways." She at least has some idea of what the impulses of her 'little sister' might be like.

"And yes, I've considered doing it myself. But unfortunately one has to do it over from a plane." She would fold her arms together while glancing down over the side. "And it's a lovely view. When ti's over the ocean particularly. You can see for hundreds of kilometers."

There's actually a hint of wistfulness and appreciation from her. Since when are Widows interested over in things of beauty in thier own way?" She would continue to watch appreciatively

Toni Ho has posed:
There's more than just Quinjets and helicopters flying around the Helicarrier today. Something small and incredibly fast is coming in hot. Real hot. Approaching the sound barrier hot. It's human sized and shaded dark blue. Honestly, it almost looks like Stark is out on a joyride. The difference is, the brass doesn't seem irritated that it's buzzing the deck.

Buzzing is exactly what they do. The figure arcs down and screams over the Widows, clearing them by about six feet or so. External speakers fire on right before the armor blasts by, projecting music.

Yelena Belova has posed:
"View is amazing," Yelena nods her agreement, the enthusiasm not diminished by the chill. "Though," and she looks thoughtful as she looks to the side, "There has to be way to clear engines..". It's sounding like a challenge?

Maaaybe.

She scoffs softly, the sound a barked laugh as she shakes her head, "Finding target is easy. Perhaps not this high, but--

<<"Kak yebat'?">>

Yelena can hear the music screaming in, but due to the sonics, the music trails the flying figure, and the younger Widow ducks instinctively, her hand flickering out as if she's ready to throw something into the mix in terms of defense. It's a little cleaner in terms of language when she basically repeats, "Hell is that?" Stark?

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanoff would glance at Yelena, "You have to jump beyond their friction to get away. Sure you can use a jetpack or some rockets, but that's cheating. The repulsors make an updraft like anything else so it's not fair if you have to use something to cheat around it." She apparently has some sort of standards after all.

But, likely to Yelena that's a challenge when it comes to doing things. So there's a smile over on Natasha's face until Yelena goes to note someone else..

Ahh, the girl from the United Nations. "A field agent.. Or at least a consultant that's taken a few things after Stark. She's your type." Natasha would quip over. "Good at annoying Stark>"

Toni Ho has posed:
The Doppler Effect makes the music warp and shift as the power armor blasts by. As it hits the far end of the flight deck, it starts to arc high, rolling hard as it disappears over the end, flying under the Helicarrier. Its path brings it back, corkscrewing around the great flying ship until it hits the other end of the flight deck.

It turns on a dime, pulling what have to be incredible G's only to skim back towards the Widows and dtop, hovering via repulsors for a moment before gently descending to the deck before them and landing with a light clank. She has a far more delicate touch than Stark, at least.

The armor, now that it's still, is largely navy blue, with silver plating on the upper arms and thighs plus some red stripes for extra speed. In the chestplate is what seems to be a glowing arc reactor, rectangular, that is surrounded by a silver star.

The faceplate pops up and, yes, it's Toni. "Great day for a flight, don't you think?"

Yelena Belova has posed:
There's a thoughtful scowl as Yelena turns away from the edge, her shoulders lifting in a quick shrug, "I could find jetpack to get me far enough away," is considered. "First time. Then, I can see what wind sheer would do." It's a firm commitment now that has settled in her head, thus giving her the ability to turn and pay attention to the newly arrived.

That arm that is out, below the jacket is one of her electronic countermeasures weapons. Could it take out Iron Man? Who knows, has never been tested, and it remains untested. (Hint: it can take out some highpowered electronics, given a good placement.) Lowering her arm once more, once the fight/flight has passed, Yelena straightens to watch the flying, her head canting as she studies the movements. The landing is given a quick nod, as well as it being an acknowledgment of Natasha's words. There's a pause before she looks to her sestra, her expression a touch insulted. "I have not bothered Tony Stark. I do not even know him." Yet. She'll meet him.

The quip from the newly arrived gains a slow nod from the blonde Widow. "I was saying same to Natasha, but she will not allow me to jump over side."

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanoff would glance overa t Yelena, "Very well. If anyone could help you over with it.." She would gesture over at the approaching woman flying in power armor. "She would likely have the data and she's clearly got the experience." Is that just a little nudge and suggestion to her? Apparently Natasha is trying to use one of those little things designed to make people 'socialize' and see how it goes. She would laugh quietly.

"Perhaps sometime I'll take you over to Avengers Mansion and you can see what Barton's living quarters are like if you'd get some amusement out of that. You could leave some booby traps?" Barton needs to be better on his toes, as far as Natasha is concerned.

"I'll defer to you. I'm adequate as a pilot ut I think the weather's reasonably clear."

Toni Ho has posed:
Luckily for Toni, the armor is climate controlled. In there, she's warm and cozy. Her face is getting cold right now, though. "I mean, what? You want to paraglide off the side of the Helicarrier? Doable, there's a couple spots that if you jump from, you'll miss the lion's share of the turbulence from the repulsors."

Of course Toni knows this, she is a giant nerd.

"I haven't done it in a while. Especially since it's cold now, and this thing is climate controlled." She pauses, leaning in conspiratorially to Yelena. Apparently the adrenaline is burning through her usual shy and awkward nature. "I mean, I could build you a suit like this, if you can get it cleared through the budget. Then you could fly whenever you want."

Is she flirting? Is that what this is?

Yelena Belova has posed:
"Clearly," the return is somewhat droll, the hint of a smirk tinging her face. "But in suit." Does Yelena need to point that out? "Is like flying brick."

Put enough power to anything and it'll fly, right? Even though Toni admittedly does have fine grace and a light touch in terms of flight. Not heavy handed at all.

Score one.

Yelena snorts at Natasha's description of herself, 'Adequate pilot'? Hardly.

"I know you," and the lightbulb goes on; from the shopping trip. "I did not know you had such suit." She nods her head in approval and consideration, but when offered? A barked laugh sounds, and she shakes her head quickly, "Is too flashy. I like quiet," and she puts a finger to her lips. "Besides, I am sure blood is hard to get out of plates." Reaching out to touch one of the bits of armor to make her point, she continues, "Too many flying people. Does not mean I will not jump, but that? Is not me. Too .. flashy." She glances back to Natasha with //that// grin. Poser!

"I will however," Yelena shoves her cold hand back into her pocket and she twists her whole body towards the aft section of the helicarrier, "I would be most appreciative if I could see data, and then work out when I could do it without Directory Nicholas Fury watching." Or, conversely, she may do it when he //can// see her.

There's that afterthought at Natasha's words regarding the Avengers' archer, and she barks a laugh once more, "It sounds as if he lays traps for himself."

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanoff would smirk over at Yelena, "It sounds like you're figuring something out to enjoy yourself. It could stand you good. Consider such attempt. . If you prusue it.. AUthorized and thus it will not register on anyone's acquisition of eqiupment list if you want it." Natasha looks amused. If this is what Yelena wants to do for some sort of holiday present.. Then Natasha will make sure that things are freed up for her to do it.

"It would be a nice exercise for you. It sounds like you'd enjoy it. Just try ot not get sucked up into the repulsors when you try it. That would make May rather annoyed." Yes, Melinda May is somewhat scary even by the standards of Natasha.

She would smirk, "And I can't protect you from Fury's annoyance. So if you do that, just remember you do so at your own peril. He might find it amusing.. OR he might assign you to maintenance over on the cafeteria."

Toni Ho has posed:
"Of course I have data laying around regarding fun, if heavily irresponsible, shenanigans. I might be a lab monkey, but I'm a -fun- lab monkey," Toni replies. She clearly doesn't feel Yelena poke the armor, though there's a slight clinking noise at the site of impact.

"Blood's real easy to get out of this thing, not that I have lethal weapons on here, not a fan. Everything is waterproof and nothing a power washer can't get out." She pauses. "I mean, have you ever hit a bird at Mach point nine? ... I have."

She shudders at the memory, the armor rattling just a bit. "But, yeah. That's me. The shopping trip. ... Sorry if I was really awkward. I'm not great at dealing with people."

Yelena Belova has posed:
Yelena barks another laugh at Natasha, and nods. Very Russian response. "Perfect Christmas gift, <<sestra>>. I will make sure you are with me to take pictures of jump." She's actually more than a little excited about it, even in the face of perhaps the disappointment of one Nick Fury. When all is said and done, this Widow is something of an adrenaline junkie. Must be the youth.

Returning her attention to Toni, the grin from the laugh remains on the blonde Widow's face. "Perfect. I would love to see data." Then she'll be looking at atmospheric weather patterns, key into the classified locations of where the helicarrier will be at certain times.. and, of course, procuring the jet pack. She's already got the 'flight suit', such as it is.

The question regarding birds, however, gains a quick scowl and a somewhat theatric shudder. "No, but I have hit one with a helicopter. Was very messy. Feathers. Everywhere." Ew. "Was worse than killing someone in coat filled with feathers." Which she's probably done...

Another laugh sounds and Yelena nods, even now looking at the entry to below-decks. "Is fine. I hate people too. Too loud, smelly," her nose wrinkles at the word, "Stupid. It is why I live with bear." Who is also loud, smelly...

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanoff would laugh, "We'll see. I make no promises. But I'll tell you what. IF you can do it for the first time on your own.. Then I"ll make sure I'm about for the second." She would glance over at Yelena, "And it soundsl ike you have a project.>" And for Toni, it's a chance to have to work wiht someone else over in a circumstance that might help the girl get a little more out of her shell with another agent doing something hse would enjoy.

Always the small things when it came to helping establish some interactions for comfort. And it's good for Yelena to have to cooperate as well.

"And have you crashed a helicopter lately, Yelena? I thought you had a routine going with them. Should I be disappointed if you haven't kept up your reputation in the field when you're on assignments for the sake of tradition?"

Toni Ho has posed:
The helicopter is both better and worse to hit the bird with. Better because there's some distance there. Worse because it's way more dangerous, those rotors are easy to mess up. At least with the suit, it's designed to take missiles to the face and keep going, so it's not a danger, just gross.

She does pause for a second, blinking. "You live with a bear? Is that safe? Is it ... friendly?" She totally wants to pet the bear, because she is kinda dumb despite being a genius. "But, yeah. I think I have the stuff you want in a thumb drive in my lab at the Trisk. If you give me a few days, I can convert it from numbers to visuals. Merry Christmas, here's how to jetpack off a Helicarrier!"

Yelena Belova has posed:
"But I need witness. What good is story in bar if no one else was there?" It sounds almost a petulant note, a hint of a Russian whine underlying her tones. It's all in good fun, however, and more on the theatric side. Yelena really doesn't mind not having someone there with her on her death defying leap.

It does sound as if she has a project. One that doesn't involve killing anyone.. more to her disappointment. It's been a little while since she's had to pit herself against a real mark. Pity. What good is an assassin when they're not assassinating?

Straightening into something of a mock defensive posture, her mouth opens, "What? Crashing helicopters is not my fault. I am good pilot. Better than 'adequate'." She's got the word from Natasha's comment from earlier.

Nodding her head as she twists around again to look at Toni, Yelena chuffs a laugh. "Yes. I call him 'dya-dya'. Uncle. He is harmless." Mostly. "He is drunk always, so if he is not complaining about proletariat, he snores in corner after drinking vodka." As if that was the most normal thing in the world? Possibly, if one is Russian?

Just the thought of getting the data sooner rather than later, Yelena nods quickly, "I will stop by Triskelion to pick up. They let me in front door." Hah!

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanoff would smile over at Yelena, "Well, then it sounds like you'll have work to do. I'm sure that you could team up with Zinda and arrange to get some more of them. And you can always borrow some from someone else. And never return them." She would smile over at Yelena. IT's good to see Yelena so.. Enjoying herself.

"Of course. You're no longer a parolee. You can go about and do things on your own. You have an actual security clearance." And she's very, very well expectant that what she's not authorized to see that Yelena can get on her own initiative. The girl is rather creative when it comes to that.

"And she can take you to meet the bear. You'll find it very interesting. From what I've heard his alcohol capacity is impressive.." Compared even to Hercules.

Toni Ho has posed:
"I mean, I'm a valid witness, right? I can watch from the deck in my armor just in case something goes wrong. I could catch you or whatever." She turns pink, her face edging towards matching her hair. It is cold out, maybe nobody noticed.

Textbook Toni, though. Crushing on every woman she meets. It's almost pathetic.

"I ... what? The bair drinks vodka -and- talks? ... That is so cool," she almost squees. "I'll bring him a bottle as a peace offering. I assume he only enjoys potato-based Russian varieties." He hesitates, and tries to flirt again. She's not good at it. "What kind do you like, Miss Yelena?"

Yelena Belova has posed:
It's true, Zinda is a good contact. And the track back to the pilot is several people deep, which makes it harder to trace as those people between are more.. dark than in the light of day as it were. "Psh.. when I am with her, she always pilots. No fun." Doesn't mean she won't call on her when needed!

Yelena's mouth drops as Natasha invites Toni to HER apartment to see her roommate. "He is very impressive. Not many talking bears. But," here, blue eyes roll, and a hand comes out and makes that 'roll' gesture, "He goes on and on and on and on.. uhn."

It's cold, and she puts her hand back into her pocket before rolling her shoulders forward in that attempt to get a little extra body heat. "I think he would like that," she nods quickly, and with a stamp of her foot, the cold is leeching in. "As long as the bottle is written in Russian." Standards! "As for my favorite?" Brows rise, and she barks a laugh. It's not mocking, not dismissive, "All of them. I will give you my address. Do not be afraid of neighbors. They are harmless as well. They know about Uncle."

Looking back to the door that leads below, Yelena gestures with her head in the direction soon after, "Is time to go in and get warm." And to get her nose into other things around the helicarrier...

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanoff would chuckle over at Yelena, "Very well." Her going to fold her arms in her pockets, "Thank you for the reflection. It's nice to have some company. Good flying." She would give a nod over at Toni, "I'm due for deployment shortly. Thank you for setting aside some time." SHe would smile over at Yelena, "And do enjoy whatever you get up to. I'll see you in a few days." The holidays always had things come up. Supervillains trying to kidnap Santa, megalomaniacs taking the time to try and rob stores.. And of course whatever Hydra was up to to make sure the entire planet got mind control from Christmas music.

THe same old things.

Toni Ho has posed:
"Sure, no problem. Bottle I can't read for the bear, and something actually drinkable for you. Got it," the pink haired woman says with a smile. It is awful cold out here. The Widows make ready to head inside, and Toni takes that as her cue to get back to work.

"I guess, Happy Holidays, and I'll see you around when the time is right, Miss Yelena," Toni says an instant before her facemask clamps back down. "Good luck on your deployment, Miss Romanoff, good hunting."

Repulsors fire and Toni ascends slowly for a moment before she rockets off again, her accelleration ridiculous.
