Animals Amok in Time

Synopsis:	Mary Bromfield and Kyani are present when Sauron mutates break loose from a prison transport! Caitlin and Naomi rush over from Titan's Tower to intervene as well.

Caitlin Fairchild has posed:
The door to the Titan lounge room burst open, and Caitlin hopped in one one foot while tugging purple combat boot on the other.

"Emergency in Battery Park, and we're on deck. Anyone who's got your pants on, let's go!"

The Titans make good time getting there; it's been a little while since Caitlin flew a T-jet, but she's a competent enough pilot that it was only a little shakey after takeoff. The vehicle zips across town in record time with lights flashing and arrives near the Hudson River shoreline. A wrecked semi-truck has tilted over; it looks like a fair pileup has formed around it. Traffic's gridlocked in every direction.

And a dozen-odd gorillas and dinosaurs, mostly wearing shredded prison orange jumpsuits, are scattering quickly away from the wreck. A few are simply making a beeline for the inner city to get clear of any authority response. Cops are trying to wrangle them up, but it's a laughably inadquate attempt as they quickly expend their stun guns and foam launchers.

"Remember, the gorilla mutates are incredibly strong," Caitlin warns her allies. "And the dinosaurs can bite and claw. There's still some human in them both, so they're going to have some strength inhibitions. But try to keep your distance and use your less-lethal munitions."

The Titans aren't much for guns, but there's enough utility for M32 grenade launchers that they keep some handy. The T-jet runs parallel to the street near the waterside, then Caitlin brings the aft around and drops the deck open so people can jump out. She sets the vehicle on hover mode and moves to disembark herself, picking up one of six M32 grenade launchers and a bandolier of rapid-dry foam grenades to sling over her shoulder. "Okay, let's go!" She's the first one out, landing on the ground with a flexion of her knees, and beckons the other Titan to follow.

Mary was just trying to get a slice of pizza, honest!

Well, that was the original plan, as she was just coming out of Gino's, enjoying a day off where there wasn't any responsibilities for once. So of course, that's when the gorillas and dinosaurs starting appearing, most of them wearing torn prison garb.

Hearing about these things happening in the abstract was a lot different than seeing them first hand. Particularly when one of the raptor-cons hisses and leaps at Mary! Blinking in shock, she did the first thing she'd think of, namely shouting, "SHAZAM!"

Out of the sky, a bolt of lightning cracks down, blinding the raptor and knocking them back senseless to the ground. And where Mary was, Thunderbolt stands, as she launches into the air, trying to get a feel for how many gorillas and dinosaurs there are, and where they're running to so she can do her best to intercept them.

Naomi McDuffie has posed:
Rushing off with Caitlin, Naomi actually kinda enjoyed the ride in the jet. First time for her. She blinks at the sight,already powered up and she nods to Caitlin.

"I'll do what I can. I am still not quite perfect with these shots yet." She then takes off and flies over the scene, aiming a fist right for a big gorilla and firing off a quick blast.

    Well today has been pretty damn good for Kyani, he's finished his deliveries for the day, but he's actually been taking a few days off. His money was already right and he's earned quite a bit, but after watching the news and seeing what's been going on with New York and how the heroes been handling things. He's been thinking a lot as to what he wanted to do, and now he knows.

    Today though he was also at Ginos, though he was in the bathroom washing his hands after eating three large meatlovers pizzas. As he walks out he sees a crack of lightning and honestly he knows that sound well. "Shazam, my dude you're back." he says more to himself. He runs outside and as he does he sees......wait a minute, "Are those dinosaurs?" he asks as he looks at them and he blinks a few times and there are gorillas all in jumpsuits. He sees a large air vehicle flying, "Ok looks like there is something going on, those look like inmate uniforms." he says as he focuses on one of the dinosaurs and runs towards them, moving faster then the eye can see, Kyani allows the lightning he harneses from the Speed Force to gather in his arms and he punches in towards the chest of the dinosaur, allowing the lightning to shock and possibly stun them.

Caitlin shoulders the launcher and squints down the sight. The recoil barely shakes her as it *thumps* and sends a foam grenade towards a raptor atop a police car. The dinosaur squeals in outrage and tries to leap clear, but it just keeps expanding and hardening until it's enmeshed entirely in the sticky goo. "Sweep the perimeter and herd them back here!" Caitlin calls up at Naomi. "You've got this!" she adds, encouragingly, and focuses her attention on the matter at hand. Cops are trying to form little defensive pockets here and there, and are switching to their firearms as the mutated inmates continue to either attack indiscriminately or try to take advantage of the chaos and flee.

A gorilla rushes at her with a galloping knuckle run, and tries to shoulder-check her with a flying leap. Caitlin's an experienced infighter. She sidesteps smoothly and clotheslines the converted convict with an elbow strike to the jaw, knocking him senseless. She takes two steps away and spikes one of the foam capsules into the pavement near him.

The flash of lightning nearby makes Caitlin wince and throw a forearm up reflexively to guard her face from the burst of light. "Look out!" Caitlin shouts at Thunderbolt-- but the flier clearly can handle herself. In fact, Caitlin gapes a bit at the sight of the newcomer, and that inattiventiveness costs her in the form of a raptor tackling her. Claws rake and slash, but accomplish little more than scoring gouges in her green leotard. She's on her back for a beat and then when those savage jaws open as if to bite her neck, Caitlin jams her hand into the raptor's mouth and twists its tongue.

The dino's eyes bulge and it warbles in panic, trying to push away.

"Rude!" Caitlin scolds.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Well, she's not her little brother, but she'll do pretty well in a pinch as she soars in, taking advantage of her speed and strength to catch the inmates that have gotten the furthest away and dropping them back by the bus.

"You know, I'm pretty sure transmogrifications are /not/ a legal form of early release!" Her efforts are getting some notice, though, as a pack of gorillas in the orange jumpsuits, or what's left of them, come after her after she drops an convict-turned-stegosaur by the overturned bus.

This could be a problem...

Naomi McDuffie has posed:
"You got it!" Naomi calls out to Caitlina nd then flies out toward what she believes is the edge of this mass break out...stampede? She shrugs and flies toward the edge and immediately starts firing much more powerful blasts into the ground before the groups trying to head away. She starts circling, sending blasts of pure energy into the space near them to try to scare them back toward the way they came.

She is just about to move on to the other side when a motorcycle comes her way. Thrown at an arc at her and she acks and has to blast that real quick only for her to cause it to explode. She flails backwards after the explosion, flipping through the air and then shaking her head a little as she looks down, still unharmed and then looks for the culprit and frowns.

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
    The raptor that Kyani is fighting takes the hit, and it rears it's head back to bite, but Kyani shakes his head and unleashes lightning through it's body shocking and stunning it causing it to spasm and fall to the ground. "What the hell." he says as he steps back only to be hit in the side by another raptor using it's tail. Kyani rolls along the ground as he is hit and he coughs up a little blood. "Shit that fucking hurt." he says. He gets up and as the raptor that hit him, lightning crackles in Kyani's eyes and he runs and slams his fist into the chest of the raptor, he quickly drops and does a spinning sweep kick to take the raptor off it's feet. He quickly takes off looking to see who else needs help as he saw the raptor smack the back of it's head on the ground and wasn't getting up. His chest hurts badly and he's wheezing a bit as his body begins healing.

What looks like a bipedal triceratops rushes for Kyani and lowers his horns, roaring mangled words through a mouth never meant to speak English: "I'm gonna wreck you!"

Caitlin intercedes in a blurring sideways rush, dropping low at the last minute and tackling the triceraconvict around the waist. They sidestep, spin, and Caitlin abruptly bends backwards at the waist and suplexes the creature with enough force to dent the road and pin one horn in asphalt.

"Be careful!" she bids Kyani, and shifts her feet to guard his position while he catches his breath.

The grenade launcher swings back around and Catilin shoots a foam grenade at the gorillas rushing Thunderbolt. The machine *clack-CLACKS* as she pumps the action and fires another round, then once more again. It lays down a thick layer of the viscous stuff that disables four of the six rushers.

"Naomi! Watch out"! Caitlin calls up at the younger woman. "Stay mobile, don't let them pin you down!"

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Thunderbolt flashes a grin at Caitlin, "Thanks!" Then the heroine looks at the two that are still coming, and moves with remarkable speed, catching one by the arm and tossing them into the other, so they both go down in a heap. Then, seeing Kyani over there, she flies over towards him rapidly, knocking away a charging scaled-down-allosaurus with a Shoryuken style uppercut.

Then she lands down by Kyani, glancing at him as... well, she definitely has the Shazam /style/ and look, though she's obviously not. She flashes Kyani a quick smile, followed by a look of concern, "Hey, you alright?"

Naomi McDuffie has posed:
Recovering, she frowns and looks over the situation and gives Caitlin a thumbs up. She then races back in to the side and starts trying to make with the hearding again. She is trying her best to stay mobile and then blinks as she spots Kyani in the mess and tries to give him some cover, firing some blasts into nearby enemies to make them flee. She then looks over at spots Mary and smiles wider, "Hey, a new face!"

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
    Kyani hears Caitlin warning and he sees what she does to the Triceratop inmate. Kyani was a bit baffled at what he's doing, but he's not allowing himself to get to caught up, though as he begins to look for a new target, Mary appears, that's not Shazam. "Hi." he says to her and he looks to Caitlin, "A...a'ight." he looks around and finally his heads clear and his body is still healing, "Yeah, I'm good." he says as he looks to Mary. Kyani looks around him, "So any...." then explosions ring around him as Naomi gives him covering fire, "Hey!" he says to Naomi, he doesn't know that it's Naomi.

    He looks around and watches where they are coming from, "Give me a second, I have an idea." he says and with that he takes off. He explodes into action moving at around 500mph, faint traces of lightning is seen as he runs and he begins making a loop around the dinosaur inmates near him, and the others. With the speed he's running at, he kicks up a lot of dust but it looks like he's herding the dinosaurs together. Slowly bringing them in closer if he can, trying to make them a cluster all in on one another.

Caitlin's pretty cool in a pinch. She calmly ejects the spent grenade cartridges and starts loading new ones from the bandolier, glancing down only intermittently to keep an eye on the situation. "You're doing great," Caitlin reassures the younger Titan, and flashes an encouraging grin at her. She finishes reloading the launcher and with a *chunk* snaps it shut again.

"And I don't know who you two are, but I'm glad you're here," she tells Kyani and Thunderbolt with a sincere gratitude. But then Kyani's off like a shot, making even Caitlin blink in surprise at his speed.

"He's herding them in! You, uh..." Caitlin looks at Thunderbolt. "Sorry, I don't know your name. Here, take one of those," she says, and unclips one of the foam grenades from her belt. "It's a security foam grenade. Twist it to prime it, then just toss it at the ground near the target. Even a partial hit will slow them down. You and Naomi do one more sweep for runners, and either pin them down or bring them back to the truck."

She turns away to watch Kyani's rapid herding action, and waits patiently for her opening. Only a few remain on their feet and Kyani herds them back pretty easily, at least enough for Caitlin to fire that launcher with those heavy *THUMPF* sounds. Fast-expanding foam encases the last of them and holds them in place.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary flashes a grin at Caitlin, "Thunderbolt, actually." With that, she takes the grenade and soars into the air, waiting for Kyani to get them herded in enough as she times it just right. Then she tosses the grenade...

And she definitely seems to have the Perception of Artemis, as the grenade goes off right where it'll do the most good, snaring a majority of the dinosaurs and gorillas that Kyani has herded. With that, she zips off with superhuman speed in the air, looking for any possible stragglers that need to get rounded up.

Naomi McDuffie has posed:
Smiling as she nods to Kyani and then she turns and flies past Caitlin briefly as she hears the call out and then gives a salute, "You got it!" She then rushes out wide and looks for stragglers. She spots a gorilla tryin got climb up a building and she slams right into him, carrying him away from the building and she gets two fists to her back for her effort but she keeps it up and winces. She stops suddenly, letting him fly right into a nearby tree and nods her head, "I found one but didn't see others to the south!"

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
    Kyani herds the inmates in and once he sees the foam grenades being fired, he breaks away stopping a good distance away, seeing Caitlin and Thunderbolt lobbing the grenades, he smiles. "Cool, I will see about the others." he says as he takes off again, helping with getting the stragglers, he knows he doesn't have the power to take on a gorilla, so the dinosaurs are his priority and he begins routing the dinosaurs towards Mary and Caitlin as Naomi goes after the gorillas.

It doesn't take long for the team to handle the threat and in short order, there's a stack of converted inmates swearing, hissing, and squawling protest as they're tossed into a lumpy pile of foamy mess. Meta Response Team units start showing up as well, and Caitlin beckons everyone to join her as law enforcement shows up on the scene.

"Whew! Okay, good job everyone," Caitlin says. Naomi's given a grinning look of approval and a reassuring squeeze of the arm; then Caitlin looks to Kyani and Thunderbolt. "Let's catch our breath before we start doing triage," Caitlin suggests. "Introductions real fast though, yeah? I'm Caitlin Fairchild," she says, and gestures at Naomi. "She's still working on a code name. We're with the Titans. It's Thunderbolt, right, you said?" she asks Mary, and looks to Kyani. "And I didn't get your name." She slings the grenade launcher at the small of her back, out of the way. The close-fitting bodysuit sports a few thin slits in the fabric where sharp claws slashed into it, but the material looks like it's already starting to repair itself and keeps the bare skin below mostly covered. There's no blood, though; Caitlin's skin must be fairly tough stuff.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Thunderbolt descends when beckoned to, skirt and cape fluttering in the wind, though her modesty never seems to be in serious danger. Must be a super power or something.

She smiles over at Caitlin, "The Titans? Well, that's really good to hear you were able to respond. I'm... well, yes, Thunderbolt. I was going by Lady Shazam but... well, honestly, that sounded kinda... 1950s." She looks a little sheepish, then shrugs, "But I'm glad I was able to help."

Naomi McDuffie has posed:
A look over at Caitlin and she girns before giving a thumbs up and then looks to Mary, "Good to meet ya." She nods her haed before turning her smile to Kyani, "Hey, you were at that jewlry robbery I helped stop." She nods her head, "You were fast then, too."

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
    Kyani walks over to the others once the inmates are being taking into custody. "The Titans, ok." he says. "I'm Kyani Kohanna, nice to meet you all." he smiles. He looks to Naomi and nods his head, "Yeah, I was there, been working on increasing my speed and other abilities." he says to her. He looks to Mary, "You remind me of Shazam, I used to work with him. Do you know him?" he asks as he looks at Mary. He looks to Caitlin then he looks around, "Do we have to talk to the cops?" he asks.

Caitlin Fairchild has posed:
"Thunderbolt's /much/ better than Lady Shazam," Caitlin agrees, and makes a fist-shake of solidarity. "Fight the patriarchy, all that," she quips, and dimples appear when she grins at Mary encouragingly.

The redhead twists her head around to look at the cops, then looks back to Kyani. "Yeah, we gotta make a statement," she agrees. "Well, triage the injured first," she amends. "If you two have emergency aid training, we could use the help," she suggests, and starts backing away while speaking. "If you don't, then just go around and look for anyone who's bleeding heavily or stuck under debris," she calls. "Don't move them-- just mark them and signal someone to come help!" she calls. Her hands spread, and flop, and she grins apologetically. "Heroing, it's not *all* fun and games," she says-- but it doesn't sound apologetic, either. Caitlin looks to Naomi and beckons her to come along, and chucks her shoulder gently once she's in range.

"You did really great today," she tells her. "But we've *gotta* come up with a codename for you soon," she teases.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Thunderbolt looks over at Kyani, and smiles, "Really? Well, yes, he's my brother. He's... been a little busy, lately, with other things. So I kinda tagged in for him." She chuckles, returning Caitlin's fistbump and giving her a warm grin. Then she nods over at Naomi, "And I feel that lack of name... I mean, the suggestions I got from my brother..." She chuckles ruefully, then nods to Caitlin's suggestion.

"I know a little bit about first aid, Wisdom of Athena working for me." She then makes use of her powers to... well, basically superspeed triage people, prioritizing which ones need urgent care and which ones can't be moved right away.

Naomi McDuffie has posed:
A smile is given to Kyani and she nods to him, "Good, glad to see that but...you could really use a costume if you are gonna try to help." She laughs before looking to Mary and smiling, "Yeah, kinda rough but I don't know. Gonna figure it out." She then looks back over at Caitlin before smiling, "Thanks a bunch. I appreciate it but we're working on that."

Kyani Kohanna has posed:
    Kyani nods his head, "Alright, I will help out. I want to do hero things and be apart of something more so if I can help I will." he says as he looks at Caitlin and Naomi. He then looks at Mary as she speaks up and he ndos his head. "I was wondering what happened with your brother, he's been helping me a little bit, and I even raced him through New York and that was pretty fun."

    Looking at Caitlin as she states that they need to help those who are injured. "I can bring over those who are not to critically injured, I can bring them over here near the ambulance so that you all can work with the first aid." Looking to Naomi, he frowns, "I move to fast that most normal clothes burn." and case and point there is burnt rubber smell wafting from his shoes now as he stands there.

Caitlin Fairchild has posed:
"Hey, I've been at this for eight years, and I /still/ don't have a codename," Caitlin says with a deadpan shrug. "We tried Big Red for a while, but it made me self-conscious and then a bubblegum company sent lawyers after me. I'm good with Fairchild, though my friends call me Caitlin."

The quartet gets to work, then, and though their efforts in containing the mutates were welcomed, the after-action aid is even more helpful. Kyani clears the streets and locates many wounded quite quickly, and Mary's speed and skill allows her to count the critically wounded. Caitlin keeps Naomi close, letting the younger woman make the triage calls and only gently correcting her when needed. Any moment's a teaching moment, and Caitlin contributes mostly by picking up cars and debris and moving them out of the way so EMS can get through.

By the time everything's said and done, a couple hours have passed. The little group rallies once more, and Caitlin offers Kyani and Mary both a business card and an invitation to swing by Titan's Tower sometime for a hot meal.

And then, before everyone scatters for good, she makes sure the lost pizzas get replaced by hot and fresh ones for them to take home. A gesture of gratitude for their civic service.

No hungry hungry heroes tonight!
