Coffee and Koriand'r's
Date of Scene: 05 February 2023
Location: Hot Joe Coffee
Synopsis: A Rich woman is a b*tch with a man from the streets and an orange alien at a coffee club.
Cast of Characters: Emma Frost, Koriand'r, Luke Cage

Emma Frost has posed:
Normally she doesn't deign to drop into places like this, but she needs a quick coffee break while on her way back from the Mansion to her place in the city. By 'place' we mean 'penthouse', but the point stood.

So Emma Frost is sitting over in a chair in the back, a book over on her lap while she was sipping at a caffeinated concoction that cost more than some high fashion outfits.

Koriand'r has posed:
Korri herself was...quite happy to enter a place like this. Tasty drinks and sweets to go with? She was there. Touching down outside, the orange-skinned alien wasn't exactly subtle in her arrival, practically skipping her way through the doorway towards the counter with a beaming smile on her lips. "I would like the hot chocolate with the cream and syrup, and one of those tarts!"

Alien with a sweat tooth, go figure!

Luke Cage has posed:
His trips outside of Harlem are not frequent, but when Luke ends up outside of the city he does like to patronize smaller establishments. Repay the kindness he sees in his bar, and extend it out where he can go. So Hot Joe Coffee earns his business today as he is en route to a small job just north of the City.

He walks in after Koriand'r, and there is an expression of amusement on his face as she flounces her way over to the cashier. She seems entirely more excited about the hot chocolate than she did about beer, but that makes sense, totally. He falls into line behind her, quietly waiting his turn to place his order.

Emma Frost has posed:
It would take her a moment to notice Luke Cage etnering. Emma would give a nod over to the HEro for Hire. "Mister Cage." Then she would glance over at Koriand'r. "Princess. What brings you out to here?" She would gesture at the orange alien. Whether or not they had met it was rather hard to mistake Koriand'r for anyone else.

Koriand'r has posed:
Both faces were certainly known to Kori, one from the party she'd attended for charity...and the other from his bar she'd ventured into. With her treat secured and her beverage under construction, the question from Emma brings a bright smile and a lift of the bag that contained her tart. "The smell!" she offered as if it were self-explanatory. "I was hungry, and this place smelled quite good."

Spotting Luke behind her that's a beaming grin and a nod of greeting.

Luke Cage has posed:
"I can't say I argue with you at all," rumbles Luke's baritone voice as Kori moves over to let him place his order. "I think I could smell this place down the street." He orders a coffee and a sandwich, and then moves to the side to patiently await its arrival.

He gives Emma a nod in response to her greeting, and Kori as well.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma Frost would glance at Koriand'r, "Well enough. I suppose Salem Center.. But one goes where the mood takes them. Might you two care to join me?" She would gesture over at the two and the open seats. "My treat for your indulgences." By which she meant pick up their tab

Koriand'r has posed:
Well...it seems that Koriand'r was easy enough to win over...or quite social at least. Nodding her head to Emma's invitation she seems to just expect Luke to follow as she nods. "I could smell it from above, and I was looking forward to a little break."

Luke Cage has posed:
Maybe Luke might not ordinarily join Emma Frost at a table, but a free lunch is a free lunch. And he certainly seems more than happy to spend a bit more time in the company of Kori. "Thanks," he calls to her, nodding to the cashier before heading towards the table, now that both the payment and table delivery are settled.

"So how did you two come across each other?" he asks with a bit of a smile.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma Frost would glance at Luke, "Oh, it's rahter hard to avoid encountering.." She would gesture at the Tamaranean. "A fundraiser at the Hellfire Club, I believe." She would move to the side to let Luke and Starfire sit down next to her

Koriand'r has posed:
A nod of Kori's head she opens her mouth to say more, but instead it's an excited noise as her drink is delivered to her and a deep sip before she 'calms' and smiles. "Mmmn, a charity fundraiser my agency asked me to attend. It was a nice night!"

Luke Cage has posed:
"Of course," says Luke quietly. He had heard of the Hellfire Club, of course. But he had never been within its walls. It was not his kind of place, for any number of reasons. "What were you raising funds for?" he asks, looking to Emma as he settles into his seat. His sandwich is a bit longer in the coming, it seems.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma Frost would glance over at Koriand'r, "Oh, I can't even recall what it is. All thsoe events do sort of blend together in the end. There was nothing particular to it that made it stand out." Rich b*tch

Koriand'r has posed:
"I -think- it was an education thing," Koriand'r offers before turning her gaze back to Luke, two-hand nursing her drink before tilting her head to the side. "So, what has you out and about wandering Luke?" she questions, never having gotten Luke's surname...and apparently finds herself quite happy to speak informally.

Luke Cage has posed:
"Oh, got a job upstate a little bit. Guy needs some help sorting out some ..." Luke trails off, glancing at Emma, before he looks back to Kori. "I go where I'm needed kind of thing, y'know?" He looks up as his sandwich and drink arrives, and he thanks the server before turning his attention back to the two ladies. "So you were just flying overhead?" he asks of Kori.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma Frost would shrug her shoulders, "Oh, yes, there's so many of them. Most of them which exist purely for tax writeoffs. Vedry little of the money goes to anything actaully useful after all." Blunt directness made for such wonderful things.

Koriand'r has posed:
A nod from Kori at Luke's words, she seems to understand...or she seems to accept anyway. Still, it's Emma's words that makes her pout a little, even she starts to retrieve herself that tart. "But education and the like is very important!"

Still Luke's question for her flying earns a little nod. "I was undertaking a 'patrol' and was headed home!"

Luke Cage has posed:
Frowning towards Emma, Luke shakes his head. "Just like someone rich enough to not have to work a day in their lives to downplay the value of education. For most of the kids I see around the 'hood, the only thing standing between them and a life ended by bullets or drugs is education." His frown deepens, and he nods in agreement with Kori. "And education ain't cheap."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma Frost would fold her hands together, "I never said that the cause wasn't worthy, Mister Cage." Nor that she didn't donate quite a large amount to the fund. But a rich b*tch had to keep her secrets after all. Imagine if people thought she actually cared.

Koriand'r has posed:
Kori for her part wasn't going to have a comment on education or circumstance as far as life from the 'hood' brings. Not only was she an alien from another world...but she was technically a princess after all. Instead she simply takes a bite of her meal, tilting her head to the side.

Luke Cage has posed:
That does not /quite/ dispel the scowl on Luke's face, but he has to stow it at least briefly to eat the sandwich, so they are both spared his judgemental face. "I thought you mostly stuck to Metropolis?" he asks of Kori.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma Frost would go to fold her fingers together. "Merely that just note that these galas aren't particularly useful when it comes to anything productive. Those who show up to it merely are there for the attention rather than the cause."

Koriand'r has posed:
A shake of her head at the question from Luke, Kori smiles and swallows her mouthful of food. "My...day job? I am a model as well. The Agency I work with is here in New York so I often lend a hand on those days that I am here. It is how I came to end up in your bar the other day."

Luke Cage has posed:
"Except sometimes the attention is what serves the cause," counters Luke. "Showing that rich people care about something somehow motivates normal people to care about them, too. If it's just a poor people thing, people who don't think of themselves as poor can't be bother." He pulls a pickle out from his sandwich and sets it on his plate. "Most folks don't realize that they are /way/ closer to the poor people than they are to the wealthy people, but it makes them happier to think otherwise."

He nods as Kori explains. "Makes sense. New York is where it's at for that."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma Frost would just smile, "Perhaps, Mister Cage. Perhaps. But don't give the Hellfire Club that much crecdit in the matter. There are few locales more dedicated to self serving than it." Yet hadn't she been the one that had been there, too?

Koriand'r has posed:
Kori herself wasn't actually a member of the club, but it did seem interesting, given what she'd seen, to hear Emma's assessment of it. Still nomming away at her tart and sipping the obnoxiously sweet hot chocolate.

Luke Cage has posed:
"Well, I meant the other galas have a use. None that I can see so far for the Hellfire Club other than self-aggrandizement." Luke finishes off the sandwich and dabs at his mouth with the napkin, before turning his attention back to his coffee.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma Frost would shrug, "You're quite right." S he would glance over at Koriand'r, "If you do journey there again, merely go with that in mind. It's motives are all self serving."

Koriand'r has posed:
Another sip of her drink, Kori seemed at a loss for a moment on what to say, though she does seem to suddenly find inspiration aftera moment and turn her gaze towards Luke. "Are there any fundraising things that you're aware of that will be happening soon?"

Luke Cage has posed:
At least Emma seems to accept that about the Hellfire Club. That earns a bit less of a scowl from Luke. Kori's question, though. He turns to look at her, thinking. "There are tons, honestly. We need all the help we can get in Harlem. If you've got a number, I can give you a call or send you a message. There are plenty of them that could benefit from someone with your charm." And beauty. But he does not mention that.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma Frost would shrug, "There are awlays plenty. The issue is narrowing down the ones that are worth the time and the effort. That's rather much a chore no matter how much you delegate and subcontract the work out. It's rather too much a bother."

Koriand'r has posed:
For her part, Kori turns down to start scribbling down at the napkin with a pen borrowed from one of the serving staff. It was a contact nummber for modeling rather than her 'emergency' phone, but it was a means to contact her. With that done and her tart demolished she makes to stand, sipping her drink lightly. "I'm headed home now, but it was a pleasure to see you both!"

Luke Cage has posed:
"Yes, it is such a bother having so many needy people to attend to," says Luke, rolling his eyes at Emma. He leans forward to take the napkin, glancing at the number first before carefully folding it up to put it in his pocket. "Thanks," he says, lifting the napkin and smiling at Kori. "I promise only to use it for a worthy cause."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma's being rather forward in this. "Well yes, there are eso many different things. Of varying priorities. And of course all of them that actually are legitimate rather than fraudulent in nature."

Luke Cage has posed:
Watching Kori leave, Luke turns to look back at Emma, frowning a bit at her words. "You come down to Harlem and tell me there's not a legitimate need there for the kind of money you throw away on a few drinks at your fancy club."

Apparently that was enough for Luke, as he steps up. "Thanks for lunch," he mutters, and with that, he turns and heads to the door.
