T'Challa meets his Sister!
Date of Scene: 07 February 2023
Location: NYC Airport
Synopsis: Shuri and her brother have a good conversation where he catches her up, and she teases him!
Cast of Characters: T'Challa, Shuri

T'Challa has posed:
The New York airport is usually busy, or well it is currently busy just not where T'Challa was. The main airport is busy today as people running around trying to make times when they should of already been there a while ago, and staff that half didn't care, and the other half was so busy they couldn't do their job right, but at the private landing stip, and hangers it was cleared out as T'Challa made every effort to reschedule anyone else coming in at this time.

His only sister was coming, but he was here with the Dora Milaje behind him, and beside him Okoye though holding the other half of a 'Welcome Shur' banner though not happy about it. T'Challa decided to welcome her to this new land, well she had been here before of course but it wasn't home, in the customs they used here. So in that regard he had a long banner where he held one end, and Okoye the other as he had seen many people greeted just this way. The Limo was behind them ready to bring them back to the embasy as well of having her papers, license, Credit Cards, and all the things she would need to operate here though maybe a bit more then she needed.

Shuri could take care of herself of course, but T'Challa the slightly over-doting brother had prepaired so she would need of nothing. Anything she could need he would get her, though he had tried to prepair for the ones she would run into first. This all was in the car as well as some of his new favorate foods he had here as there were some Black Cherry drinks, and blue rasberry that he could not find in Wakanda as he would never suggest his people to consume so much sugar.

Okoye says as they spot the plane coming, "Remember to ask her about the reports." she reminded as T'Challa smiled at the plain and just sighed.. "Yes Of Course" replying with a nod.

Shuri has posed:
The flight over was quick, comfortable. Wakandan technology, you know. Great planes. Autopilot. Controlled climate. All the bells and whistles. T'Challa was even prominent in the design of the Quinjet the Avengers use.

Shuri's made some modifications to tweak a few things the Wakandans themselves use, but that was then. Now, she's watching a movie or two, sipping on a drink, feet up. Upon landing and taxiing over to the private hangar, the hatch opens up to reveal..well, T'Challa over there with Okoye, whatever retinue they've got with them as well. The limo, the red carpet. The..banner.

As she exits, she stares mainly at him through a pair of hip sunglasses, her hair done up in a bun. She's dressed in baggy clothing of a hip-hop style. Gesturing to everything before her, she asks, "What is all this silliness, brother?" She lowers the glasses down the bridge of her nose slightly, in order to peer toward Okoye. "I certainly hope you did not put him up to this!" She knows the leader of the Dora Milaje would never. It is a shared joke between them.

T'Challa has posed:
From the displeasure of the idea it would be clear this was not Okoye's idea. Though with a deep chuckle T'Challa looks at the sign, "Many families would be excited over such a sign." then looks at her with the smile and isn't quite sure what to do with now that she had seen it. He is wearing a dark black well kept, and fitted suit with a dark purple dress shirt, and a armless cerimonial jacket over it as he looks less Americanized then she did even though he was supposed to be greeting her.

He looks at the sign a bit more and still smiles at her, "Come now my sister.. Are you just going to leave your favorate brother standing here?" his accent still very thick, and nods to her as it has been so long since he had seen her. "Can you believe she almost did not tell me you were coming?" noding to Okoye, as while she wouldn't lie to him when it came to Shuri she would give the not telling him some wiggle room. "I hear you have reports." he cotinues, "So I must be involved, and here I am." he waves his free hand to the car, "I have drinks, and food though the black cherry is mine!" and grins a bit as he was only half joking with her as he would share if she asked.

The food, drinks would be visable, and the plane is already being taxied to the proper place after Shuri departed, and any baggage is removed. Though it is now when Okoye finally speaks up again, "How long must we hold this sign?" with a sigh as T'Challa had forgot to deal with it just holding it in place for now.

Shuri has posed:
"Yes, T'Challa, it is very thoughtful of you to welcome me this way, even though I have been to America many times before, even though I have many friends here, even though I have my own room at the embassy," Shuri says, pulling off a level of practiced politeness that still manages to carry some of the frequent sarcasm she has for her big brother. It's a sibling thing.

As an aside, more to Okoye, she says, "You can do whatever you want with that sign, as long as I never have to see it again." No matter how T'Challa takes it - and she knows more than enough about his enhanced hearing - it does not include her saying 'no signs ever again.'

She gives him a quick crossing of her arms in the Wakandan style, then embraces him briefly before a kiss to both cheeks, then she steps back with her hands at her hips before one digs up a tablet. "Oh, yes. You want to know what is going on back home while you spend most of your time here? Hold on. Let me..ah, here we are." In a most dry tone, she dictates:

"Chimps are going ape, giraffes remain above it all
Elephants remember, though just what I can't recall
Crocodiles are snapping up fresh offers from the banks
Showed interest in my nest egg but I quickly said 'No thanks!'
We haven't paid the hornbills and the vultures have a hunch
Not everyone invited will be coming back from lunch

This is the morning report
Gives you the long and the short
Every grunt, roar, and snort
Not a tale I distort
On the morning report"

One guess at what she may have watched on the flight out. Question is, will T'Challa even get it?

Shuri wonders, with a smile, "Shall I continue?"

T'Challa has posed:
T'Challa nods, and as Okoye drops the sign to stand back in her proper spot with a nod to Shuri, and there is a little laugh from someone in the guard behind him though that stops as Okoye rejoins them. Pulling it up to for a ball as he chuckles again, "I though you would enjoy an American greetings." he gives her a hug, and then crosses his arm giving her a nod as well. "When I asked such friends this is what they told me American do.." he calmsly makes the ball smaller, and smaller with force on the outside pushing the paper in.

He seems to ignore her sarcasim, or perhaps think she is joking with him as they put it just her form of humor used to it by now.

As he considers it, as he takes the tablet listening as he scrolls through any information though he chuckles. "I spent most my time here because you and my aids could run Wakanda without my presence. You and the people are never far from my mind." he answers honestly as he listens to her rhyme. "It seems you have been expanding your knowledge to poetry." he asks a moment after she is done raising an eyebrow, "Very humorous indeed." he states with a grin as he holds up a finger quoting "Paperwork is just as important as the shield that surrounds us.. It protects us, and informs us of our land." and chuckles a bit as those were not his words but he had learned them as he heard it whenever he used to try to get out of it himself. He was never lazy, but sometimes there were just better things to do and it was a bit boring.

Looking up he nods to her, "I do care for you sister, but you know I do not have a great sense of humor about the wellbeing of our people. Please tell me are things well?" he looks at her his voice calm of course, and he did still have a smile as he wasn't mad at her or anything just has not heard much about home other then indirectly when looking into something else.

Shuri has posed:
With a swipe of a hand across the tablet, before he takes hold of it, Shuri says, "There. It is sent to you. You can read it at your own leisure. There is nothing serious, otherwise you would have already heard about it. And next time, you should not be so quick to believe everything your American friends tell you. I could have taken an Uber, or one of our vehicles."

Yet, she moves in the direction of the limo, certainly not going to forego the luxury as long as it's being offered. "Paperwork is not for either of us, brother. But it is the usual. Some are ready for us to be known by more of the world. Some are not. There is anticipation of change, and fear of it. But it is important they see you too, so you are not forgotten. Some already say you spend too much time around the rest of the world, not enough around our people. I tell you this because I know where whispers can lead."

T'Challa has posed:
As T'Challa looks at the tablet and the pictures background on it he realises it is actually Shuri's as he was used to just taking and scanning them a lot now as he had ment to do here before that realisation. "Thank you sister. I will look at that soon" meaning the information as while he was excited to look at it, if his sister is telling him later it must not be anything too important in there, and could wait till his time with her was finished. "And no, while it may of been wrong for you. My American friend is quite accute in his perception as he is a robot after all." giving a smile as he did run with some wierd company American or otherwise.

Following her he listens quietly he does not speak until everyone is in the car patiently waiting as it is just not two of them in here. Okoye and another from Dora are in as well. When he answers his does it slowly, as usually when he does this he has put some thought into the topic at hand, "I trust my people almost as much as I care for them. If they have a problem with me then all they need to do is look." he looks at his suit, "I do not dress like this because I want to.. I look like king, and I act like king always. If they think I do not they are welcome to challenge me on that though they will lose." his tone serious as he explains this as he takes Wakanda seriously even with his sister who he relaxes around the most. "They just miss me as I miss them. I do not blame them though am happy to hear that despite the distance my name is still on their lips. When I return... Though I am not sure when that will be. I am sure they will welcome be back with open arms despite how much they may talk otherwise."

Shuri has posed:
Shuri doesn't spare Okoye a greeting they share, nor the other member of the royal guard. On occasion, when Okoye is not frustrated with Shuri for her impulsive, headstrong nature, they can find themselves discussing certain matters. It's a woman thing. "Keep in mind robots are only as smart as whoever is programming them. Even AI has its imperfections, you know," she remarks.

After settling into the limo for the ride, she leaves the sunglasses in place. Gotta look and stay cool, but they're also one of her own inventions that feature a HUD and the ability to watch various things through them. Only she knows what else. "Brother, I think you are misunderstanding me and taking it more personally than you should. Nobody is saying their King has left them, at least not around me. But there are some who think you should spend a little more time around /home/ instead of everywhere else. It is not about someone challenging you. Yes, you are missed. Just spend a weekend back there. Walk the streets. The people /want/ to be around you, and want you to be around them."

She scoffs, lightly. "When I must be away from my lab to focus on other things, we are not suffering. There are no uprisings. But I can tell it is you they would rather see."

T'Challa has posed:
T'Challa smiles as he looks out the window as they start moving back to the Embassy. "I am sure he will enjoy hearing that." nodding to himself as AI is a bit below what T'Challa would call Vision, but he guesses it fit. "Do not underestimate the mechine people." and nods to her as he thought if anyone would understand it would be her. "You might be working with one soon.", and grins at her adding quickly "No tinkering."

T'Challa actually sighs a bit looking down. "It is not what they say, but how they feel about me in their hearts." he sighs a bit "Since father.. I must always be the best I can for them it is my responsability." He frowns a bit more, "I am best helping my people here though they will never see my work if I do the job properly." with a shrug he admits "Though it would be nice to walk the streets amung my people." the frown turning into a small smile as he thinks about the last time.

He shrugs, and shakes his head to clear his mind. "Yes, other things though I am glad about the lack of uprisings. You can only throw so many people off cliffs." and grins at her looking back up with a chuckle.

Shuri has posed:
Shuri rolls her eyes from behind the sunglasses. He's seen it enough times from her to know it when it happens. "No tinkering? At least give me a moment to get my hopes up next time before you crush them!" she exclaims, feigning exasperation as her hands spread apart. Then, it's back to doing something on the tablet, whatever it is. Could be a 'match 3' style game. Could be her next great invention.

"If you know what's in their hearts, then you shouldn't be worrying over it. But it is still important the people see their King, not just their Princess standing in. Being King and Black Panther is your responsibility, brother. It is not mine. I make all of your cool toys," she reminds him, no matter the fact he's no slouch in the engineering and science departments either. "If you want to walk among the people again," she adds, then leaning forward to lightly jab a finger at his chest to emphasize the next few words, "make the time for it."

Shuri swats at his shoulder after this. "Don't even joke about cliffs and throwing people from them!" She sits back again and shares an exasperated glance with Okoye, one of those 'women' moments or just nothing at all, it's hard to be sure. "We should go see one of the professional basketball teams soon, you and I. I know you enjoy the sport, and I will pretend to know all the strategies and who the best players are. It will be fun."

T'Challa has posed:
"You will know them when you see them, but yes unless you get their permission no tinkering!" and shakes his head with a smile as she plays her game. He took out his own phone, and looks for the thing she sent him earlier as he talks so he can see how it went maybe some new photos of the people of Wakanda. He is flicking though as he listens to his sister talk. "Now who is being hard on themselves sister?" and chuckles, "You are more then just an inventor, and.. Spirits forbid something happens to me you must be ready to take that role no-matter if it was for you or not."

Looking up he continues, "Wakanda is just one small part of a too small world that is running all around us." he sighs, "While we are technology wise superior it will not last forever, and if we wait till that time our isolation will only alienate them." leaning back a bit as he relaxes as he explains, "Not to mention mutants, or otherly powered individuals." he shakes his head at that. "speaking of which I have news... though you might get angry at me. And I don't want to get hit again" though he says it with a smile as he seemed to be joking about the hitting part.

It is an interesting thing that you mention sports... I have a new..." he thinks about it for a moment, "Friend, or well student.." he smiles as he realises he is stalling. He looks her in the eyes as it is his responsibility to let her know. "I have a new student I am teaching.... our fighting style to." he says and holds up a hand, "She is a mutant, about your age.. super nice, though French." he stops talking as he didn't want to rant too much. It was the first time he had trained someone outside of Wakanda anything about Wakanda. The skills, the tech to him was all super important to keep away from outsiders.

Shuri has posed:
"Yes, yes. I heard you the first time," Shuri answers, muttering something colorful in Xhosa under her breath, hardly trying to hide it from anyone else in the limo who would easily understand it. Finally, she removes the sunglasses and tucks them away in her hoodie, shaking her head as she appears to look to the heavens for patience. "Stop speaking foolishness, brother. You are not going anywhere. I won't allow it. You are Black Panther and that is the end of it."

No matter the fact she's worked on a design of her own that pays homage to the Panther Habit and various suits he's worn over the years. No matter she's tried to prepare for the possibility. Accounting for as many variables as possible is not the same as expecting it.

She follows with the topics he focuses on. "I am aware of this. It's why we agreed to provide some of our technology for that Starport project, but for all either of us know there may come a time for us to remove it. It's dependent on others making sure it isn't misused or worse, ending up in the wrong hands."

A brow arches upward as soon as T'Challa tries to prepare for her potential wrath, leaving her to do her best not to simply grab him and somehow force him to spit it out. "You are being evasive," she says, bluntly. Then it becomes more clear. French, mutant, age unclear. Expression sharpens along with her simple question as to him teaching Wakandan ways to someone else: "Why?"

T'Challa has posed:
T'challa smiles and nods. "You are right of course sister I am not going anywhere for a long time.. The world can not be rid of me easly" and smiles a bit sounding confident at that. He was a bit too stubern to give up on it, but while it had tried its best so far Black Panther had come out on top. His confidence is from experience so he can honestly picture himself old and gray and his sister picking up the mantle till she is also old and gray. Or maybe not her but her line though he would not even want to start that conversation.

T'Challa thinks about it before he speaks, "It would be a great folly to pull out of the Space-port, or Moon City that is coming as those are the expansions of human kind so we must be a part of it. Though if our people are put in danger or if our things are missused we will deal with it." he sighs a bit looking at her. "We were linked as soon as I decided to let them use it. Doubting without proof will only hurt us now." and smiles a bit, He pondered wether he should mention the space nazis but he had the skill to also reform the data into some working order so perhaps it is best to leave her out of the space things for now.

T'challa smiles a bit at her last question, and doesn't answer for a moment.. The car drives, and the silence hangs beyond whatever game she might be playing of course. Finally after several minutes he responds, "I know why, but I would like you to meet her, and see if you can tell." with a chuckle he nods to Shuri, "But it is my decision, and I stand by it. I know you might doubt me now, but this too is something important you must learn." he is quiet again for a moment before he continues, "Trust me sister I am not so folish to pick someone who does not deserve it."

Shuri has posed:
One of the things about T'Challa being King and Black Panther is that he has to make these decisions. They are his and nobody else's. Shuri plays the role of one of the people who lets him know what she thinks of them, and is often more bluntly honest than others would dare to be. So it says something that, for the time being, she offers nothing in the way of further opinion to the talk of succession or the Starport and how their tech is used.

Instead, her response is saved mainly for the last matter, his quiet demeanor over it speaking further volumes than if he gave his reasons in the form of a lengthy, long-winded speech. "Then we will see, won't we?" she offers, leaving her own position on it for another time even if her attitude is more disapproving than not. "I have had a long flight and I wish to visit one of the local restaurants after I've put my things away. We will speak more of these things later, won't we brother?"
