Super Bowl Sunday
Date of Scene: 13 February 2023
Location: Lake House - Wayne Estate
Synopsis: Homework and paperwork get somewhat done, mostly procrastinated, while watching the Super Bowl.
Cast of Characters: Stephanie Brown, Dick Grayson

Stephanie Brown has posed:
The lakehouse has the fireplace going and the windows are set to a frosted setting that make them so one can't clearly see through but they aren't completely smoked. There are a few trays of set out. Chips and dip. Cheese, sausage, and crackers. Buffalo wings. A tray of veggies with ranch for dipping.

The occasion is the Super Bowl, which is on the TV set. Though Stephane is currently seated on the floor, having claimed a bit of space on the coffee table for a text book and her laptop. She's studying the book with various thinking expressions on as she goes back and forth between the book, and filling in answers in her homework for one of her classes.

On the game it's the fourth quarter. The score is close and it's gone back and forth for much of the game, though still most of the quarter to go.

Dick Grayson has posed:
For some reason, most people don't associate Dick Grayson and football. Perhaps since he's so closely tied to the Wayne name, people assume he'd rather be at the opera than the stadium.

They would be wrong. Dick's got his laptop and written notes on the coffeetable, but he hasn't gotten a whole lot done. The game's been going back and forth, and honestly, he's not even pretending to work any longer. He's collected some crackers and dip and is staring intently at the screen. He groans as a penalty is called and takes a swig from his beer bottle. (Lite, of course.)

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Stephanie Brown just has a glass of soda, though it's in a frozen mug from the freezer. She reaches over to grab a carrot stick and dip it in some ranch. When she bites it off it makes an audible little snapping noise. It causes Hazelduck to lift her head. Stephanie reaches over with the other hand to gently pet her head before finishing off the carrot and then wiping her fingers before typing away on the laptop again.

"It's tougher for me to stay interested if Gotham isn't in it," she admits. "Or you know, someone I'd love to cheer against," she says to Dick as she taps away on her keyboard. She compares what she's done with the book, then makes a small edit on the laptop again before looking up.

Just in time to see the defensive line bear down on the passer and hit him hard. In her best Die Hard voice, Stephanie gloats, "The quarterback is toast!" She reaches over to where a bowl of plain uncooked peas are sitting, taking one on her open palm for Hazelduck to quickly gobble down.

Dick Grayson has posed:
Dick shrugs a little, "Pretty much the same here, but it's been a good game despite that. They're both killing it today, it's a really good game to watch. Not like some where one team just dominates from the start, those are pretty boring."

"Holy crap! Did you see that punt return?" he exclaims just before the commentator lets everyone know that it is a new Super Bowl record for a punt return.

"See what I mean? It can almost be better when you don't care who wins because you can just appreciate the game."

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Were Morgan Freeman narrating their life, right about now he would be saying: "But Stephanie did not see that punt return. She was in fact regretting her choice to take economics instead something easier for an out of major elective."

The blond looks up quick, leaning back against Dick's legs while a hand goes to brush through Hazel's soft feathers as she watches the replay with him. "He looked like a video game character jumping about like that," she says of the guy avoiding tackles before breaking the big run."

"Well, true. If it was Gotham I'd be a nervous wreck with the score so close," she says. She leans further back, resting the back of her head on Dick's upper thigh so she can look up at him though he looks upside down to her like that. "So did you settle in on someone to cheer for, or just wanting a good game?" she asks.

Dick Grayson has posed:
Dick grins and leans down for an upside down kiss, then answers "I'm going with good game, I'm not even close to caring which of these two win. Got a few teams I would cheer for, but none of them made it."

He reaches over and shuts down his laptop, ending any attempt to pretend he's adulting. He can finish the report in a couple days, there's no pressing need for it to be done immediately. He steals another kiss, then looks back over to the TV. "Maybe next year we should do a Super Bowl party, get a bunch of people together."

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Stephanie smiles at the kiss before lifting her head back up to watch the next play as the team who had the long punt return punches it into the end zone for a touchdown. "That'd be fun. Frankly all of your brothers could use a little more 'normal' events in their lives. I imagine Jason probably watches football. Damian, we might have to buy him a jersey so he doesn't come in a suit. And Tim, you guys can play Madden at half-time," she suggests.

Stephanie contemplates the buffalo wings, but seems to decide to go for a cracker with some cheese and sausage on it, maybe to avoid getting her fingers sticky while she still has more homework to do. "How's your partner doing? Geez, his daughter has got to be nearing high school soon isn't she? Or maybe another year or two? I feel old. I remember going to her softball game and she was so tiny!"

Dick Grayson has posed:
"Danica, yeah. Like most girls her age, she hit a growth spurt, so not too tiny anymore. Hasn't been that long though, just a year or so from when we were at the game."

Another play catches his attention for a moment, then he continues "And Matt's doing fine too. Heck, a little better than I am." He grins when he explains, "He's more available to put in extra time on the job than I am. You'd think I was putting on a costume and roaming the city at night or something."

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Stephanie Brown grins without turning her head, at Dick's comment. "So how do most of the GCPD feel about us anyway? Mixed bag? Grumbling about the vigilantes and how we should be locked up. Or glad for the help?" she asks. They did thaw out GCPD headquarters after Mr. Freeze froze it and other parts of the city on Christmas Eve. But then people find a way to blame the heroes for that, whatever justifies their opinion.

Stephanie grabs a slice of cheese to nibble, then looks up as they kick off to the other team who is trailing now. She watches a play and then goes back to flip through her book looking for something. She likes having actual paper books to study out of rather than electronic copies. "Hmm. Well, this class has taught me that I definitely was wise to not choose economics as a field. I figured it would be good to understand since money is such a motivation for crime. So seeing those bigger trends should be helpful. But many is it mind-numbing to actually do it as a career."

Dick Grayson has posed:
"Well, I suppose it might be useful if you're trying to track down corporate embezzlers or something, but other than that, it's a simple concept... bad guys usually want money, usually someone else's. Past that, I tend to throw money trail stuff at Oracle. Always take advantage of people who can help you, keep you able to do the things you need to."

He adds, "I mean, points for wanting to put the work in, but don't let it drive you nuts, we have people who can do that sort of thing."

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Stephanie taps out a few sentences on the laptop. "Yeah, I suppose I still kind of have never fully gotten out of the Spoiler mindset," she says. "Just, knowing what it was to have to go it alone. Not that I'd hope that would ever be the case again," she says, reaching back to rest her hand on her fiance's leg and give it a squeeze. "not that I'd imagine it would. Just, you know, it's kind of like with having been poor, it's hard to stop thinking like it." Which is something else he's definitely witnessed. Stephanie tries not to bug Dick about it, but she's probably still one of the more thrifty fiances of a billionaire's son there is.

Dick Grayson has posed:
Nodding, he covers her hand with his own. "It's not the kind of thing you just switch on and off when you had to deal with things alone like you did. But you'll get there. It's just going to take some time until it really settles in that you're part of a fairly sizable group these days."
