Cast of Characters: Henry McCoy, Carrie Kelley

Henry McCoy has posed:
He'd texted Carrie, after the meeting with his new allies in the transformation crisis, asking if she'd like to try out one of the local eateries in New York. Plenty of good food, great atmosphere, and he hopes to be charming companionship. He advised that he'd meet her there, he'd gotten a table reserved - he was fine eating alone if she couldn't make it.

Now he was sitting at said table, dressed up in a nice black button-down shirt and slacks. Shiny leather shoes completed the outfit, with Hank looking respectable, if not a bit nervous. He had ordered an Italian soda, helping himself to the bread as he waited. The table selected was off in the corner, away from prying eyes and ears. Nice and secretive.

Carrie Kelley has posed:
There's perhaps a small wait for reply more than her usual timeframe to exchange texts, but it's quite possible she was merely busy. The text does come responding she'll meet him there of course, and that she looks forward to trying the place out. The usual niceties one would expect even if she was mentally berating herself for the fact that he *may know* and, to be quite honest, she wasn't sure what to do. Typically she'd never been outed before unless she were the one to give her identity. This was new territory.

At least Hank was someone she could trust. Right? Right. Of course. He was in the same 'biz' so to speak in his own way. Besides that she might just be over-reacting.

It's with no small bit of trepidation that she enters the eatery herself dressed in a business-casual affair of slacks, heels and a pink blouse. A small necklace was also worn. Just a little dash of jewelry to up the feminine quality of the attire so she didn't look as if she were intending to go to work right after this. A simple thin chain with one of those jeweled beads for decoration as a pendant.

It's quite easy to spot Hank even in the corner he was in, so after a greeting at the maitre de stand she heads that way flashing him a smile as she approaches. "Good to see you again," she greets while taking a seat. "Thanks for the invite. How are you doing?"

Henry McCoy has posed:
As she arrives, and heads to the table, he stands politely. Once she's settled in, Hank resumes his seat with a grin. "I'm doing well, thank you. Always lovely to see you, Carrie. You look great." He offers over with a smile. "I love this place - authentic southern Italian cooking. The chicken amalfitano is fantastic, and the tiramisu is perfection." He unfolds the napkin, placing it in his lap. "Bread?" He offers over.

"How've you been? Keeping busy?" He asks, voice lowering for more casual conversation with her at the table. "How is the running in Gotham?" A grin.

Carrie Kelley has posed:
"Southern Italian?" That earns a slightly curious tip of Carrie's head as she reaches for her own napkin to drape over her lap. "That ought to be interesting. Usually most places don't bother to focus on a particular area of speciality." When the bread is offered she reaches for a bit with a chuckle. "Refuse carbs? Me? Never."

She'd almost begun to relax again thinking her concern was for nothing. At least until that last bit is offered. Her face reddens with a heavy blush that she tries to hide behind her hand, fingers splayed over her eyes to peek between them. "That obvious, huh?" She finally asks with a quiet sigh.

Henry McCoy has posed:
Well, that's not the turn he expected, the man regarding her for a moment. "The nose knows." He says, without out and out revealing her publicly. His smile never fades, never lessens at all. "Your secret is safe with me. I've quite a few friends who have similar secrets, that I keep. It's a dangerous life." He says, genuinely. His fingers fiddle with the bread he has.

"I hope you can trust me, Carrie. I would not want to see you in trouble, not in the least." Hank murmurs. It's clear, he looks nervous here - not for the location, buf for the conversation. The people in the restaurant are blithely going about their business, enjoying their meals and ignoring the odd couple in the corner.

Carrie Kelley has posed:
Carrie Kelley finds herself likewise tearing little bits of the bread off only to drop it back into her plate meant for such. "Ah. I figured I screwed up somehow," she murmurs quietly endeavouring to keep her voice low in spite of the quiet area. When he assures her that the information is safe with him she glances up toward him again still smiling, though looking almost guilty at the same time. "I know. I just... Well. I suppose I've been kicking myself for not considering all the possibilities."

"I guess it is only fair. I know what you do in your spare time after all." Not that it was a secret for him. Still the sentiment is there; she was trying to lighten the mood a bit.

Henry McCoy has posed:
"It wasn't my intention to snoop about as to who those two were, Carrie, I assure you. And I was going to bring it up a bit later - but you are quite perceptive." A wry grin. "I imagine you do a lot of emotive reads on people in the extra-curricular activities you pursue." Hank dances around the subject, after a fashion. "It's not common thing to have to worry over. There was just enough of a baseline scent to know. It is something I am sure you can remedy, or I can help with - seeing as I've stumbled onto it?"

Still in good spirits, Hank grins. "Regardless of any of that, I still was going to invite you out here, Carrie. I like your company, our conversations, and the run we took." A nod. "That all still stands. If you like, I can have that other bit of information scrubbed. I know... people who work with things like that."

Carrie Kelley has posed:
Carrie Kelley considers that first offer thoughtfully with a small dip of her head in agreement. "That would be helpful in the future just in case." Even as she speaks her eyes roam around as if she were admiring the decor. Really she was just ensuring no one wandered too close to hear their quiet conversation at the same time. But then the last? That causes her attention to snap back toward him with a look of surprise, perhaps even shock.

Without thinking much about it she reaches across the table to rest her hand over one of his that worries at his bread to give his wrist a little squeeze. "No, that's all right. That's going a bit far with things. I'm just used to being cautious is all. I don't mind that you know. At least this way I don't feel like I'm lying to you."

Henry McCoy has posed:
His eyes go to her hand when it lights on his. "All right - I just want to make sure you feel safe." He explains, looking back to her face. "And I'll gladly give you tips on scent masking. There might even be some technology that could be incorporated for your friend." Hank nods, offering a grin. "Wouldn't want anyone else stumbling into knowledge like I did."

One of his own hands pats hers on top of his - quick and gentle. "And I don't necessarily see it as lying. It's a method of protecting yourself, as well as others." It's said with understanding. "I've seen too many public folks like myself worried to the bone for the people they have relationships with - friends, family, all that." A nod. "Too may people in danger if you're known."

Carrie Kelley has posed:
A slow drawn deep breath comes at mention of worrying. Apparently even for those with a secret identity that was a thing. At least he understood. That was something she could take some solace in as she finds herself nodding once again. "I'd appreciate the help with that. I'm not above admitting I don't know everything and could use help at times. And you never know when something like that may come in handy in the future."

Her hand withdraws after a moment from the patting to instead run her fingertips through her hair tucking it behind her ear. "Well then. Now that we've established all of that, I suppose we've come to the really important questions." An eyebrow lifts with a teasing smirk before she asks, quietly, "What do you recommend I try here?"

Henry McCoy has posed:
He looks overjoyed at that, nodding emphatically. "We'll work together on it." Hank beams. The relief is quite evident on the man - this could have gone so much worse! It was always tricksy, dealing with these sort of alternate identities - he knew the value of them, without a doubt.

When she mentions the most important questions, he laughs - an earnest belly laugh. "I love the chicken amalfatino - chicken breasts topped with prosciutto, fresh mozzerella, red wine and demi glaze. I usually go for penne in bolognase sauce, as well." A chuckle. "I love my protiens, no denying that." He motions to the other options as well. "They have a good variety of seafood and pasta dishes too. Have any favorites?"

Carrie Kelley has posed:
Carrie Kelley grins at the description of the dish with a little whistle. "That sounds rather decadent and rich," she admits while glancing to the menu at hand to regard it thoughtfully. She's smiling still at least looking far more relaxed than when she came in. Not quite wound as tight as if she were expecting a hatchet to drop. "Mushroom risotto is a favorite of mine. Though ... I could go for some protein too." After much consideration she flips the menu shut with a grin.

"I think I'll try the chicken amalfatino you mentioned. Since I'm being so indecisive and you were so kind as to let me choose for us last time."

Henry McCoy has posed:
The Beast offers a grin. "I think you'll really enjoy it." He motions the waiter in, ordering for the both of them. A smile and a nod from the man, before he hurries off to put the order in. "Mushroom risotto? I'll have to try it. Is it a speciality somewhere you frequent? Or did you mean here?" He peers back over the menu with a grin, before setting it aside.

Indeed, all the tension seems to have slipped from Hank. Now it's back to being friends - perhaps with a bit of a shared secret between the two, but friends! "I imagine with all this fine dining, I am going to have to step up my workout to stay in shape. Need to be able to keep up with you."

Carrie Kelley has posed:
"Oh no, it's... It's a dish that Alfred makes on occasion. He's British but he does know how to cook rather well surprisingly," Carrie admits with a laugh. "He's the Wayne butler, but really he's more like family. I'm sure it's made plenty of places though. Risotto is rather common after all," she points out with a shake of her head. "I just meant it was a dish I enjoyed. I can always bring you some, sometime," she offers with a grin.

"Oh, I don't know, I think you can manage to keep up. The hardest part is finding time to take naps," she adds with a little wink as if sharing a big secret. She did seem to be up at all hours. "The rest sort of takes care of itself."

Henry McCoy has posed:
An oh from the blue furry man, and a grin. "I would love some - not in too small a part because it means I get to hang out with you." A wink from Hank. "The Wayne butler... it sounds like a foundation, more than a position. Like, he has gravitas from that alone." A grin. "Even better that he's like family, it means he gets to take care of you and the family." A nod.

"Napping... I am all too familiar with trying to wedge sleep into my schedule. With all the research going on, it makes it tough. I just want to fix things, so people can have a semblance of a normal life."

Carrie Kelley has posed:
"He's..." Here Carrie pauses, faltering on what to say about Alfred as she smiles fondly. There was certainly no small affection for the man and clearly she wasn't just using the phrase 'he's like family' so much as really meaning it. "He's more of a grandfather to be honest, but he takes his duties seriously."

Her hands spread over the table in a small shrug as she laughs. "See, we have even more in common now. Running, eating, helping people and napping. I'd say that's a good basis for friendship."

Henry McCoy has posed:
He nods, understanding what she means. "Words are hard to describe a relationship as strong as that." Henry offers over. "It is a wonderful thing to have, I am glad you have such a loving rolemodel." A smile. "He sounds like a great man." He breaks a bit off of his bread, dipping it in the olive oil on his plate.

"Indeed, plenty in common." He sits up straighter. "And a fascination for the sciences, even if they are different fields within the sciences." A wink.

Carrie Kelley has posed:
Carrie Kelley grins with warm amusement at that. "Well I do have to be rather diverse in my knowledge. Computer sciences, psychology..." Here she lets her voice drop just a smidge to add, "Forensics." A little bit of her own bread is popped into her mouth after that remark. Thankfully this corner was rather suitable for hushed conversations without garnering too much specialition as to why. Even if they were an unusual looking pair.
