Cast of Characters: Clark Kent, Lois Lane

Clark Kent has posed:
"Thank you," Clark says, reaching up to accept the hot tea from Lois's hands, as he moves a little on the couch, drawing the blanket back more to give her plenty of space to slide back in next to him into the warm spot she'd recently vacated.

Clark is dressed simply; just a t-shirt and some comfy long pajama pants, white socks with gray toes and heel. Some things that have lingered at Lois's since the past few days - some comfy things to change into, as the barriers around him wearing things that allow her to see that his body is twin to Superman's has lifted with her knowing his secret!

"Join me," Clark teases her softly, smiling.

Lois Lane has posed:
It's nice to be able to spend some time together where they aren't just working. Lois, too, is comfortable in a pair of comfortable pajama bottoms and one of Clark's t-shirts, which ends up being quite oversized on her (given he already wore a size or two too big). She moves, settling into her already carved out haven settled between him and the blanket, tucking her legs up so she can scoot into a more comfortable position.

She's certainly made herself a spot and she's staying there. "You never have to ask me that twice," she smiles towards him.

Clark Kent has posed:
Clark draws the blanket over her legs and lap since she tucked her legs up, and then leans back to curl an arm around her shoulders, gentle but secure. "I'm not getting this shirt back, am I," Clark asks, with a play of fingers at the edge of one upper shoulder of the t-shirt, a slightly raw edge there from being worn.

"I talked to Ma about this weekend; it looks like we're clear this time," Clark mentions, as it occurs to him. The previous weekend had been called off on account of Ma Kent having a bad cold.

Lois Lane has posed:
Lois grins in his direction. "Not a chance," she replies. "Besides, I'm pretty sure I look better in it." She leans in for an affectionate kiss on his jaw, then settles in fully, leaving him room to drink his tea. "Oh! That's good then, I'm really looking forward to visiting. I'm glad she's feeling better."

It does, however, get her thinking. She rests a hand on his leg as she gets comfortable, her finger tapping lightly against it. It's a thinking gesture. Clark knows it well enough, she does it when she's thinking deeply about something. "Clark," she begins, her tone inquisitive. "Is your cousin Kara from your dad's side or your mom's side?"

Clark Kent has posed:
Clark lifted the tea to drink some, and he coughs into it a little bit ask she asks him that overly perceptive question. It's such a Clark move, really, except that he doesn't actually spill at all. He smiles a little, automatically in the face of being asked something awkward to him, but he allows the smile to drop down.

"Well," Clark says, slowly. "My father's, but...."

Clark can't give over Kara's secret without talking to her, and he has to dodge a little. He's had many years of skilled dodging, though, and he knows what he CAN tell Lois. Not lies, though, not this time.

"The Kents aren't my birth parents," he says, quietly, looking down into his tea, brows lowering some. He isn't embarrassed, there's a sadness in it. "My birth parents died when I was a baby."

Lois Lane has posed:
Lois was aware there was /something/ there, but she didn't know what she was poking for or what to expect, so the mention of birth parents has her sit up a bit. "Oh my god, Clark, I'm so sorry, I didn't know..." She's momentarily unsure of what to do. While on one hand Clark's kept a lot of secrets from her, she would have thought being adopted was something he could have shared as a friend.

"So the Kents adopted you as a baby?" The hand on Clark's leg squeezes gently, a comforting gesture, she hopes.

Clark Kent has posed:
"Yes," Clark answers, though by the way he's talking through this, there's more to it than just that. There's more layers to the secret that are gently being pulled away. "They found me, as an infant," Clark says, slowly, quietly. He holds his tea, looking into it, and then moves to lean forward to put it down on the coffee table. He instead then lays his hand over hers at his leg. "In a crash-landed escape ship. From a destroyed planet."

And there it is. That deeper truth, that he's not, ultimately, from Earth at all, and was an orphan of another type. "Ma and Pa -- they raised me. They're my family, since I can remember."

Lois Lane has posed:
Ooookay. So that was not an expected part of things. Lois blinks a few times as she looks back over at him. "I... sort of just assumed it was something where you just manifested your powers one day like a lot of heroes out there." Which wasn't a bad theory, all things considered. "That's why you're Kal." Her hand under his turns upward so she can lace her fingers with his instead.

It's not the most shocking of things he could have said. After all, if there were Asgardians there could certainly be whatever Clark was. Her fingers squeeze his. "You came a long way just to end up here," she says.

Clark Kent has posed:
Clark nods his head to her. "That's why Kal," Clark agrees. His tone is heavy, a distance not from her, but in thinking of this past, and of the loss inside it. This planet and people and parents he'd never met, not in the flesh, not to where he has a memory of it.

"I did realize I had powers as a young teen," Clark agrees, rueful. "But the answer wasn't what I expected either. Not at all." Clark smiles at her sideways, eyes sad. "I'd like to have been just like you. Belong here. This is my home, but..." Clarks sighs softly. "I'm one of the last of my kind, as far as I know." He looks at her fingers, rubbing his thumb gently over the backs of them. Entirely human, to look at him.

Lois Lane has posed:
"You're wrong, though," Lois asserts, gently. "You /do/ belong. Like you said, this is your home. I understand that you're different, but it doesn't make you /different/. You're doing everything here that I am, Clark. You get up every day, you have your coffee, you go to work, you earn a paycheck, you come home, sometimes you have dinner with your amazing and talented girlfriend..." She smiles wryly at him.

"That's what most people do. They live lives like that. So do you. Just because you've got a side gig doesn't make you belong any less." She squeezes his fingers again. "And I know it must be hard to know there's a part of yourself that no one can relate to. That doesn't invalidate everything else. Just means you've got to figure that into the big picture of who you are and not forget the rest of it. Clark Kent /and/ Superman."

Clark Kent has posed:
Clark lowers his head while bringing her fingers up to kiss them, and turn her hand some, to kiss her wrist too, and invite her to touch his face, while he looks at her with his bright blue eyes. "I know that I'm not human, when it comes down to it," Clark says, heavily, but smiles at her all the same, gaze warmed now, with faith, hope. There are few that can project hope like Superman, even if there's bits of doubt in his heart. He will still hope, and forever be the optimist.

"But that you accept me, love me, makes me hope that it doesn't matter," Clark says, kissing her fingers again, and then leaning to kiss her cheek close to her nose.

Lois Lane has posed:
Lois takes advantage of the closeness, her hand stroking his face with a gentle touch. The optimism that he radiates is not hard to see and she cherishes it. She cherishes so much about him. "You're right, it doesn't matter. It matters only as much as you want it to. It's still a part of you... just as I would encourage someone here to embrace their culture or heritage, it's not something you should forget, but also not something to let consume you."

She presses a kiss to his cheek in reply. "Being different isn't always bad, Clark Kent. You wouldn't love me the same way if I followed the path everyone else follows instead of blazing my own instead. Different can be fun. Exciting."

Clark Kent has posed:
"Sometime I'll tell you more, or show you some pieces of it," Clark promises her, drawing his other hand in, to stroke her hair in return, look her in the eyes, and smile at her. The directness, compared to Clark's years of shyness, is still probably a surprise. A good surprise, a positive change, to get used to as their new normal.

"But for now I like just being us. Different or not," he says, with a real smile, the hope in his eyes turning more solid, as he offers a kiss to her nose, and sighs softly.

Lois Lane has posed:
"Whatever you're comfortable with, Clark," Lois says with a smile, the affection and the comfort he seems to have with her certainly being new, but something very much welcomed. Their new normal is exciting and more fulfilling than she could have hoped for or expected.

"I do like being us. I like /this/," she agrees. Their level of comfort increased, the familiar banter and way they were before with an added level of affection and love. A chance she almost missed. She brushes her fingers over his cheek. "Something else on your mind?"

Clark Kent has posed:
"Right now? Only you," Clark says, tilting his head to her fingers as they brush his cheek, smiling at her, and settling in, to rest with her there in their comfortable nest.
