Secret's Out!
Date of Scene: 07 April 2023
Location: The Coffee Bean
Synopsis: Marie meets Billy, who is able to deduce that she's more than his sister's girl friend (though not before inserting foot in mouth) and then Mary comes to join them!
Cast of Characters: Billy Batson, Marie-Ange Colbert, Mary Bromfield

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson is on spring break. Hs last spring break as a student and his first as an adult!

This does nothing to explain what he is doing at the Coffee Bean late at night. However, it being Billy a good guess would b low funds. As for the coffee shop? He couldn't sleep and not having classes he drifted over where his sister used to work. He had missed her several times -easy when she can fly. It occurred she might say hey to the people she worked with while she was in New York visiting. Also he had edited several bits for his show and couldn't sleep after. So after two magic transformations he was here in his trademark red and yellow sweatshirt. He had a good deal on those 12 for $15. Alone in plain sight he sips a coffee with four sugars.

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
Marie is /also/ on Spring Break; it's pretty magical how these things end up lining up, and with that extra time that has become available to her.... well, it provided a perfect opportunity to visit with Mary and further discuss the plans that they had recently agreed to. While Marie might prefer to have Mary all to herself when it comes to those rare opportunities of, well, so much more time than she usually has, she's not /selfish,/ and when Mary mentioned wanting to catch up with some of her old co-workers, Marie agreed to meet her there!

So she's stepping into the Coffee Bean, dressed in her typical fashion. Black silk blouse, maroon, knee-length skirt with flats, her hair worn loose with a yellow rose-shaped hair clip utilized to keep the red locks out of her eyes. She stops just past the doors, taking a scan of the environment to see if Mary might have been there first... well, no /Mary/, but her gaze does stop on Billy. Staring. He looks familiar... and right now, she's just trying to place it.

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson sends his sister a text explaining where he is and that he would like to see her already! No response. Shazams do go off the grid after all. Sunny recently flew him to the Moon. Literally, no double entendre there. For that matter she might leave her phone somewhere safe. She's practical like that. He takes a big swallow of coffee. When he puts the cup down... a lovely girl with ginger hair and green eyes is... looking at him? At him?

Well that's nice, not that he's interested or available. It merely confirms what he'd heard, once you're off the market, you attract females. One person called it newfound confidence. Another said it left the stink of desperation fade. He lifts the cup to her and... wait... he has seen her somewhere. Green eyed gingers are the rarest humans on the planet. He has seen her!

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
It takes a few moments for it to click. A couple more to remember the /name./

No, not that one.

So, she approaches the boy (no, man now! It's mostly official and everything!) and offers a bit of a demure smile, bowing her head. "Excusez-moi, Monsieur..." The French accent is very notable. "...I do not mean to interrupt your day, but... is your name, perhaps Billy Vasquez?"

It's fortunate that Marie took the extra couple of moments. She almost went with Eugene. She's heard the names more than she's had them pointed out with pictures, after all. But, that first date with Mary years ago was definitely one to remember, so the memories are a little more vivid!

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson is puzzled a moment. "My name is Billy Batson, but the Vasquezes are my foster parents. I feel like we met somewhere. I'm a little foggy. I just came off streaming for six hours. So I'm sorry I can't place you better. Wait! You're a cosplayer? Ren-faire stuff?" He gets a little excited trying to find her name.

Names are important.

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
Marie's not /too/ surprised that Billy has another last name from his parents -- Mary, she knows, was a foster child too and doesn't share their last name. "We have! Well. Almost." Marie replies with a little giggle. Truth was, she'd never /seen/ Billy in the flesh, as the times that she'd visited the house he'd been convienient(?)ly out, or working on the podcast with Freddy. Or at least that was the story she was told!

"Oui!" she nods with excitement of her own. Technically, she's only done it a few times... but it counts! Pausing to dig into her pocket, she withdraws her phone, swipes it open... scrolls through her photographs, and turns the screen towards Billy. On it is a picture of her and Mary at the RenFaire, dressed as characters from Dragon Age. A finger points towards the cosplaying Mary, "...and this is your sister, oui?"

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson's face lights up as the mystery is solved -in part. He looks a little embarrassed and admits. "Yes! I saw you in the same photograph Mary has. Im sorry, I don't think she ever told me your name. I asked but... I don't think you're named 'Put that down you twerp'?" Ok, a little joke there. He gets up to offer Marie-Ange a seat. "Could I get you a coffee if you tell me what name to put on the cup?"

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
Marie might not be the most outgoing person out there... but /this/ is her Mary's brother. That's almost like a part of her extended family! "My name is Marie-Ange Colbert... most just call me Marie, though." Then, a little grin. "...but, to be fair, I believe the English translation /is/ 'put that down you twerp'." she teases gently, moving to take the offered seat. Marie's movements are fluid, graceful, and her sinking into the chair is no different.

"I would like that very much, please -- if my memory serves, this shop makes a wonderful cafe au lait?"

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson snorts a little at the joke and it is more fluid than graceful. "Hehheh. Surely -one coffee ole! aw lay! AU LAIT." He gets it right finally. He's pretty sure she's just too polite to wince at his pronunciation. He heads over to the counter to make the order. Once away he texts <<Imin your bases. Stealing yur grrlfriend!>> He snaps a quick photo of the Bean with Marie. That shuld get a rise unless she's rescuing a runaway train in which case... she'll kill him.

Worth it!

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
Not only does she not wince -- the effort he's clearly putting into pronouncing the words of her language /properly/ makes her smile a bit wider, instead, and even clap a little. "Tres bien, Monsieur Billy!" she replies cheerfully, and then waits patiently as he goes to get it. Meanwhile, she's on her own phone... peeking through her messages just to make sure she didn't end up getting the time wrong, or getting a text about a delay, or anything like that.

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson looks at the phone. Nothing. Oh well. he gets the coffee and brings it to Marie. "So tell me what Mary said about me... I want to deny it and get that out of the way." He sits next to her and returns to his coffee. "Mary and I hav an interesting relationship. She usually doesn't want me near her friends. Uhm, do you know Julie by any chance?"

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
Nothing on her phone, either! Marie doesn't fret, though. Most girls she'd worry about. Mary? Mary she knows can handle herself. Plus, the cards would've likely indicated some sort of disaster, given that their lives are reasonably entwined at this point. "Hmmm, what has she told me about you..." she trails off for a moment as she takes and sips from the coffee, lips curving into a smile. "Well, she had mentioned that you and Monsieur Freddy were experts at setting traps for young men who would attempt to win her heart, but that you would love me. Also, that you were a famous... ah... what is the word... peapod host?" Podcast, Marie. "I cannot imagine why she would not wish for you to be around her friends. You seem like a most pleasant young man."

Though, she does side-eye Billy a bit. She tends to trust Mary's judgement. As the conversation shifts to Julie, though, a light blue colors her cheeks. "Julie... Power, you speak of?" she asks for clarification. Despite Julie being as out as a super as one gets, she's not going to reference the rainbows first. Once she gets confirmation? She nods. "Oui, I do. We dated for a time... she is a very kind young woman." Another sip of the coffee, and a little grin. "It seems we... run circles similarly," run in similar circles, "Monsieur Billy. It is a surprise that we have not met before today!"

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson takes a sip of coffee. The comment about running in similar circles is shoved to the side for a moment.

She dated Julie. Mary has a lot of nice gay friends...

He recalls the Ren faire photo again. "Yes, we looked after her after that Peter guy messed her up... no guy was going to get past us..."

Come to think of it, guys stopped trying after a while, leaving her to go out with her friends till college.

Holy. Freaking. Moley.

He chokes a little on his coffee. Then he sets the cup down and does the mother of all facepalms.

He looks up after a moment. This was like finding out that beast man in Island of Lost Souls is Bela Lugosi and realizing it was staring you in the face. Nothing wrong with Bela Lugosi or the movie just realizing... He says, "I been stupid and for a while. I'm glad I never said anything to make Mary uncomfortable. I just realized." He then remembers the text about stealing her 'grrlfriend'.

"Mary is going to kill me." He facepalms again. He can just stay Shazam -forever. Nah, she has the magic word too.

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
"Ugh. /Peter./" Marie makes a face. The photographer's name is mud in the French girl's book. Doubly so since she'd accidentally given the wrong advice to Mary out of a reading. "You were good brothers to care for her so... she is lucky to have a family who loves her." Marie knows a thing or two about that. Of course, she has her own version of a foster family, at the school. Friends count!

Then Billy almost chokes. Chalk one up for the Wisdom of Solo Man. Which Marie doesn't have in quite the levels that Billy does, because she's left looking a mix of bewildered and concerned. "Are you okay, Billy?" The 'Monsieur' is dropped for urgency. Then confusion follows. "Why would you claim to be stupid -- and why would she kill you? You have done nothing to wrong her that I know of..."

Nope, Marie hasn't put the dots together herself about /what/ Billy just realized.

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson wipes his mouth with a napkin. "I... just realized... I'm sitting here with my sister's latest girlfriend, that she HAS girlfriends. I mean... after Peter... well I thought she just gave up dating to study more because guys stopped coming around and... now I connected the dots and realized ow clueless I was. And before all this I sent this to Mary for a joke..." He shows her the text message.

"I'm glad she found someone as nice as you."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary comes into the shop, wearing a rather nondescript jacket and a baseball cap as she grins slightly, spotting Billy and Marie sitting together. She walks over towards the table, perhaps not *immediately* recognizable... until she takes off the ballcap and shakes her hair loose, "Hey you two... how's it going?" She smiles warmly and takes a seat, leaning over and kissing Marie on the cheek, right at the corner of her lips. "Sorry, was working on a story so I didn't respond right away, Billy."

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
Marie's eyes go wide, first. Then they narrow. Watching Billy. Evaluating him. Openly judging. Back at the convent, if she had realized she had liked girls /then/ there would have been much more punishment than just for liking the tarot cards...

...but when she doesn't see hate, or disgust, she relaxes and smiles wider. "Well. There /was/ one after the photographer," Bart, "...but after she and he broke up, and Julie and I did the same... we found comfort together." She replies, blushing red at the compliment. "I strive to be worthy of your sister's love every day, Monsieur Billy. She is the most wonderful person I have ever met."

Then, her eyes light up. Followed by the rest of her face, the redhead practically bouncing in her seat. "Mon amour!" she greets openly, returning the kiss in kind, before she sets the coffee down to stand and hug her girlfriend. "Me? I am tres bien! You? Sit. Speak with your brother, oui? He has been lovely. I will bring you your favorite." Family is important, afterall.

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson slides over close to Mary. e gives her a big hug. Glomp!

"I'm happy for you. She's... Holy Moley, she is fricking adorable. I'm sorry I was kind of clueless. You know the whole Shazam thing, it's been crazy the last few years. I hope I never made you uncomfortable or said something stupid... besdes the D&D stuff -I meant all of that. Oh... does she know you're Thunderbolt? Is it okay to talk? Because, I have a girlfriend now who knows but I didn't tell her about our other halves."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary grins and ruffles Billy's hair, "It's okay, the past few years have been a little crazy, that's true enough." She returns the hug tightly, "And you never made me feel uncomfortable, but after Peter and Bart, and talking with Marie... it made me realize that I wasn't really into guys." She chuckles, "And Marie is just... an angel. Did she tell you we're moving in together? Since my current roommate is leaving at the end of the semester, after all... figured I would carpe the diem." Her eyes twinkle a bit, "Freddy gets a pass on helping the move, but you don't Billy."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary then nods, "And yeah, she knows about my being Thunderbolt. It's one of the first things I told her when we realized how we felt. I didn't tell her about you or the others, though. That wouldn't be right."

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson flails a little. "I need help moving in myself. I moved into the apartment over Mrs. Dawson's garage next to victor and Rosa. And to repeat the question, does she know about Thunderbolt? Good to keep this stuff straight."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary grins at Billy, "She knows about me. She doesn't know about you or the rest of the fam." She nods slightly, "But well, I'm sure we can help you get moved in if you need it. Always nice to have extra hands, right?"

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson nods. "Well, let me see if Sunny can help out, that's my girl. I'll borrow Victor's van... hey Julie is back in town, she can help. I did a podcast with her did you see it? I also told her about my crush and how I loved her writing. We decided to be buds." Billy finishes his coffee.

"Well if you vet her, I can introduce her to Lightning Boy whenever you want."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary smiles, "Look, I trust Marie with... well, everything. It's just some things aren't my story to tell, you know?" She nods, "I heard the 'cast, it was really nice. You've gotten really good at interviewing folks and putting them at ease, Billy."

A slight grin, as she looks wryly at Billy, "Don't let it get to your head, though." With that, she gives him a wink.

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
After a little while, up near the counter can be heard a fit of giggling. This is followed shortly by Marie's return to the table, setting down a cup in front of Mary that features her name... and a stylized heart. Because Marie asked to borrow the marker.

"I hope I did not keep you both waiting too long..." That's Marie. Always polite.

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson winks back. "I'm not. I'm doing all right and I think I found my profession. I may take some night school courses on journalism and writing. Try to polish my style a little. Or at least get some of those 'For Dummies...' books. Hey if you want to do an interview... I mean you are my sister. Hey I could ask you all about Shazam!"

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary smiles, "Not at all, Billy and I were just catching up a bit." She takes the cup, then laughs softly as she sees the heart on there, "Oh, Marie, that's so sweet." She grins and kisses Marie lightly on the cheek, then gives a mock-glare to the barista currently working as she clearly knows them.

Well, more glaring at the giggling anyway, as they all wave to Mary and giggle more. Mary rolls her eyes a little bit, then grins back at the table.

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson goes to get up. "Ok well, I think you two need some couple time. I gotta fly." Yeah a quick zip to Iceland would probably get him ready for bed. Iceland always relaxed him.

"Marie, you are an angel and my sister is in good hands with you. Don't let her be too bossy. And you... I am right next door from victor and Rosa and up a flight of stairs. Try it!" He goes on his way.
