Cousin time
Date of Scene: 04 May 2020
Location: Fortress of Solitude
Synopsis: Kara and Clark discuss 'what Lois knows', and secrets.
Cast of Characters: Clark Kent, Kara Danvers

Clark Kent has posed:
The fortress of Solitude is entirely invisible this evening, even to those that may know where it is. The storm in the snow rages outside, obscuring nearly all vision at all. Yet inside it is peaceful, serene.... an oasis.

Laying on his back, Clark is relaxed on an shimmering crystal angled perfectly to allow him to look upwards into the ceiling of the place, and into the images being projected. Places from a world he has no memory of seeing, a lost past, of moving people and green landscape.

Clark isn't Superman presently exactly, but he isn't dressed as Clark: he's wearing a black and gray version of his suit, one that doesn't really fit him and who he is, not really. It makes his eyes all the more blue, against that gray.

Kara Danvers has posed:
"God daaaaaj," comes Kara's voice, echoing from another of the crystalline passageways that make up the Fortress of Solitude. A moment later she emerges carrying a pale blue book with the phrase 'Hej Svenska!' printed in bright yellow on the cover. She clicks her tongue, tapping the page with the point of her finger, "The 'j' is like a 'y'? Feh! Earth languages! <Why do they need so many of them?!>"

The last part of her little tirade is spoken in her fluent Kryptonian, mostly to herself as she claps the book closed. She's wearing the simple t-shirt and jeans that are her 'Kara Danvers' disguise but the glasses have been discarded leaving her hair golden and flowing down.

As she steps into the cavern, her eyes catch her cousin and she smiles faintly to herself before memory catches up with her and the look is replaced with something a little more reprehensive.

"<Sunbathing?>" she asks in Kryptonian, hovering upwards into the air to float over him while peering down curiously, <Bad weather for it.>
'

Clark Kent has posed:
A smile flits onto Clark's face as Kara's voice reaches him. He stops looking upwards: in that he shuts his eyes, listening to her vent with that same softened amusement. Warmth for it, as well. He doesn't have memories of Kryptonian speech being something that brings him 'home', but he does know what it means to his cousin. His speech is Kryptonian.

"<Something that divides them too often.>" Clark observes thoughtfully of her lament of language. He doesn't move from his spot, but he does lift one arm to prop his hand behind his head, drawing fingers slowly against his black hair, and opening his eyes to look at Kara.

"<No - just being sentimental. I'm glad to see you.>" There's a relaxed honesty, a genuine quality to it, that is very Clark, when he's being himself, without any forced alterations to his behavior due to having to appear perfect, or appear mild mannered.

Kara Danvers has posed:
"<I'm a little nervous to see you, truth be told,>" Kara begins with a sigh, clutching the book to her chest and sagging a little in her shoulders, "<I spoke to Lois Lane. I think I may have told her more than she already knew, necessarily. She knows I'm not from America. I told her I'm from ... Sweden.>

The young woman holds out the Swedish language book, as though it were evidence of her crime.

<But I don't know if she really believes that. I'm sorry I'm not quite as used to the whole double life thing. I'm trying to drop the accent but ...> She trails off, unable to find the words and simply shrugging glumly.

Clark Kent has posed:
Nervous? That gets a lift of eyebrows. Clark sits up now, fully, though his manner is nothing but welcoming. Curious, but there isn't judgement there. He looks at her with a focused, thoughtful quality. He gestures with one hand to indicate she can come over and sit by him if she likes: the opposite of pushing her away.

Clark does switch back to English, though. "It takes practice, and it's hard, to have to lie," Clark says, heavily. "I'm... extremely sorry I've put you into a position to ask you to need to lie for me," he adds, with a tension and guilt in his expression. He then releases a breath.

"Lois... knows who I am, now," he begins. "She realized it, during a time when I was forced to use my abilities to help her, and..." He spreads his hands apart. "She knows now. While a relief, it also puts her in a lot of danger. Those that know about us can be used by others to get to us. I did not tell her about who you truly are. She knows that I was... adopted."

Kara Danvers has posed:
"I do not want to put anyone in danger," Kara answers quickly, switching back to her own heavily accented English in turn, "I am learning. The Danvers have put together papers for me. It should stand up to any scrutiny, they say."

She shakes her head a little, closing her eyes: "Do not be sorry. I understand why we have to do this. As you say, Lois, the humans who adopted you, your friends at the Daily Planet - all are at risk if your enemies learn about your secret."

"I will get better at it," there's a look of resolution in her face, her shoulders square and her mouth becomes a determined line, "I promise." Before sheepishly adding, "Even if it means probably I do not talk about myself so much around Lois, yes?"

Clark Kent has posed:
"Lois knows about me," Clark repeats, finally, as if mostly to himself. Since she didn't come over, Clark stands to cross to her, to attempt to set his hands gently on her shoulders, fingers curling over the edges of them, smile warm but lightly saddened. "If you want to tell her your secret, you can. It's not /my/ place to give away that."

Clark flushes, but says firmly, "I love Lois. I hope to be with her for a long time. Perhaps I should have told her years ago. She has supported me. If you want to tell her of your own secret, it is your choice."

With a rueful smile, he adds, "She is very good at unearthing truth, though, so I'd say talking about yourself if you don't want her to know is dangerous," he chuckles softly.

Kara Danvers has posed:
"I would like to," the young Kryptonian nods her head vigorously, a beaming smile overtaking the determined grimace, "I would like to very much. I like Lois. I always make sure that if I burn one of the coffees, I give it to someone else and not her."

That may account for the burnt coffee Clark has had to endure from time to time.

"If you are okay with it, I will tell Lois. The DEO says I am to keep it a secret but ... what they do not know will not hurt them, I think. Besides, she is going to work it out anyway. She may be interested to hear about Krypton, and what you were like as a little baby, and your mother and father ... "

Clark Kent has posed:
Clark is often reserved, but generally doesn't hold that in too tight of a grip around Kara. There's a relief to the family connection of his 'young' cousin's presence. He tries not to show self-doubt in front of her very often, and he doesn't show it now for long. He tries to be strong and set a good example for her.

"I am okay with it: with you telling Lois. And you can talk about me," Clark says, with a slight arch of brow. And then a smile. "I trust that you'll do the right thing, Kara."

"Including giving me the burned coffee to spill by 'accident'," Clark includes, with a deadpan that doesn't hold up, because he chuckles and narrows his eyes at her in mock disapproval.

Kara Danvers has posed:
"I tried to reheat it with my heat vision," Kara explains sheepishly, "A man was falling off a scaffold in the Hypersector and I went to catch him, but the police stopped me to ask questions and it went cold. I am still working on getting the temperatures right when I use it."

"I like to think of it as practice for when Superman comes back," she adds, because she's confident that will happen even if it's not a thing she's personally seen, "'Oh my coffee, it is burned. I need to go shake my fist at the intern!' Then you are not there when Superman needs to be in order to stop whatever great beast is attacking Metropolis. Very devious plan, yes?"

She wrinkles her nose in a grin, turning the book around and spinning in place to regard the Fortress around her.

"I will do the right thing. I have a very good example to follow."

Clark Kent has posed:
Clark looks at her with a growing awareness, and then chuckles. "I will have two brilliant women in my corner to cover for me now, won't I?" Clark observes, as if finding it a little bit crazy to think about. Clearly in a good way, though. "I'm glad to not be alone anymore."

Clark looks up and around as Kara spins, seeming to take on a little bit of her happiness into his own smile. It's infectious in a way: something they share... influencing others to feel better, and be their better selves.

Kara Danvers has posed:
"Oh, you were never alone, Kal-El," Kara tells him, clicking her tongue and waving a finger at him with mock reproachfulness, "I was always here - floating in circles around the sun!"

She laughs at that, looking skyward as though the pod she arrived in weren't already secured somewhere in the Fortress of Solitude.

"You have Me. You have Lois. But most importantly ... " She leans in, and taps the spot on black and grey suit he wears right over the heart.

"You have all of Krypton. Right here."

A pause, then a sudden look of horror crosses her face.

"<Great Rao! I'm meant to be cooking meat loaf! HaveAGoodRestCousinIWillSeeYouSoon!>"

The last part is spat out in a hyper-fast string of words as she quickly darts into another room at speeds uncomfortably close to the speed of light to change into her Supergirl outfit. At the same incredible speeds she pats him on the shoulder, waves, and disappears out into the blizzard in a red and blue blur ...
