So Is This What Jurassic Park Is Like
Date of Scene: 29 May 2023
Location: Operations: Triskelion
Synopsis: Detective Chimp, Jessica Drew, and Steve Rogers review some of the research footage of the dinosaurs in the Savage Land.
Cast of Characters: Steve Rogers, Detective Chimp, Jessica Drew

Steve Rogers has posed:
Steve Rogers takes a seat in one of the operations rooms that is often used for investigative work, reviewing surveillance footage and the like. He is doing the latter, in a manner of speaking. Steve eyes a remote, taking a little longer to familiarize himself with the buttons than would a millennial. But eventually he gets the right combinations of buttons pressed to start some video playing.

The screen shows a view of the Savage Lands from the SHIELD base there. The tall electric fence is in the foreground, the footage shot from a rooftop camera from the looks of it. Off in the distance are a number of dinosaurs. Some brontosaurus loom above everything. Herds of smaller creatures wander about grazing on the foliage of the mostly flat plains that surround the base. The good line of sight part of why it was chosen for the location.

Steve takes a sip from his coffee mug as he watches the ancient life forms moving across the video screen.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp was told they needed a bit of a detective eye and someone who knows a bit about animals. So Chimp made his way to the base, getting his clearance he has his badge on a lanyard around his neck. He is carrying a cup of coffee with him that may or may not have been doctored up with booze. He looks around the room and says "Heard you needed someone to help look through some footage." He says to the captain.

Jessica Drew has posed:
SHIELD is a big agency with hundreds of operatives stationed at the Trisk, besides the substations worldwide. Not every mission requires the full quota of agents available hence Jessica having missed out on seeing live-action dinos. Instead, she got the rarified air of the Himalayans for an undercover operation requiring her skill set.

Coffee in hand, the tall, dark-haired agent dressed in a tailored black suit slips into a chair at the back of the room. The scene on the screen immediately rivets her attention. Leaning forward, she asks quietly, "Agent Rogers were you on the mission?"

Steve Rogers has posed:
Steve Rogers looks over as Detective Chimp comes in, giving him an easy smile. "Well, trying to study up on the creatures there. Be prepared for if we need to go back in," he tells the simian investigator.

Captain Rogers rises to his feet though when Jessica comes in, his manners still grounded in the 40s. "Agent," he says towards Jessica with a nod of his head in greeting. He'll take a sweat again when she does. "I think there's some audio too, one of the experts," he says as he picks up the remote again. Eyes going over it for a little longer than most before he spots the volume buttons. He hits it, turning on commentary explaining what the nature of various dinosaurs shown are. Though he keeps the volume low enough they can converse.

"There's a spot up ahead where one of the reptile birds... a pterodactyl I think? Dives down after one of the smaller ones," he says, gesturing back at the screen. The attack isn't happening yet, but there are a few of the large avians circling overhead, possibly looking for a meal.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods his head a bit, He finds himself a seat, and looks over at the monitor. He does reach for a headset, and puts it on leaving one ear uncovered so he can hear them, but also hear the audio on the video as well. When you can do the whole Dr. Dolittle it is good to be able to hear the animals. He looks over and nods to Jessica as well, and says "Been a while since I been in the jungle, and this one is a bit more old school than I am remember.

Jessica Drew has posed:
Modern woman that she is, Jess smiled and waved Rogers back into his seat when he stood up, secretly charmed at his old-fashioned gallantry. Chuckling quietly at Detective Chimp's aside, she nods, replying, "Not a jungle girl myself. My most recent wildlife encounters were with yaks. They make nice yarn if you are in to that sort of thing. Dinosaurs," her voice awed, "can't say I've had any experience with them."

Steve Rogers has posed:
Another sip of Steve's coffee is taken as he splits his attention between the large screen, and the two SHIELD agents in the room with him. "They are definitely impressive. Everyone's been talking about a movie from a few years back that made them look true to life. Though this? Something else entirely," Steve comments as he watches a herd of ankylosaurs grow alert and then move as a group, as is having noted a predator in the way.

"Their size is incredible. Speed too. When the convoy had to evacuate, the dirt road was rough enough the trucks couldn't get up to top speed. And the T-Rex was keeping pace with them," he comments.

On the screen, a shape darts down out of the sky and into some bushes. Coming out with a small dinosaur, a goat-sized one, clasped in its talons as it flies off. Other of the big avians start to swarm around it. It might have to fight to keep its meal.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp hmms and says "Well they are almost like seagulls there. They are all trying to claim it is theirs." He tells them listening to the thing and says "I have encountered some things close to dinos but not the legit thing." He admits "So what we hoping to find?"

Jessica Drew has posed:
Eyes fixed on the screen, "You would have missed those, wouldn't you? I was too young to have seen the first one. They weren't showing movie hits in the lab," Jess adds dryly, with a crooked smile.

"Whoa, dino safari!" She glances from Rogers to Detective Chimp, "I'm almost sorry to have missed the Dino drag race. And to think, chickens are direct descendants." Eyebrows raised at Detective Chimp's observation, she cocks her head slightly, interested in the coming answer.

Steve Rogers has posed:
Steve Rogers turns his head to Jessica with a surprised expression, and an eyebrow goes up. "Chickens?" he repeats, as if not sure if she's making a joke or serious. Though her expression seems to make him take it seriously. The topic of conversation for dinner with Lara tonight has likely just been set.

To Detective Chimp, Steve says, "Just reviewing for a better understanding of them. What they are like, what motivates them. Weaknesses and strengths. If the Brood infect any more of them, or if they make it out of the Savage Lands somehow, it will be helpful to be familiar with how to best handle them," he says to the agent.

Steve's blue eyes go back over to Jessica. "It definitely a memorable experience. I was on a motorcycle dodging around in front of it trying to slow it from getting to the trucks. While Logan Howlett, someone who had been one of the Howling Commandos back in the day, was clinging to its back stabbing it. And Natasha shooting it with a sniper rifle."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp hmms and nods his head a bit to this and says "Well, I would imagine we will find very similar to other large animals. The herbivores are probably much like Elephants and Rhinos, but the Predators maybe a bit different. I mean their behavior towards large prey will probably be the same, but when it comes to people and smaller animals, I am not sure."

Jessica Drew has posed:
"Stabbing them? Who does he think he is? A Spider?" Jess quips. "I used to favor the smaller ones till I found out the chickens and ostriches are fairly direct descendants of Tyrannosaurus rex. Think about having those eggs over easy," smiling smugly at the thought. "Breakfast for ten."

Steve Rogers has posed:
Steve Rogers can't help but give a warm chuckle. "I think he probably would go with a wolverine over a spider," he comments of his old war buddy Logan. "But yes that would definitely make a meal. I didn't know that they laid egg, either," he comments. "Which is the kind of useful information that I'm hoping to pick up. Knowing that they might be reacting to their eggs being in the area and feeling threatened? That kind of information can save lives in a place like that," Steve comments.

He takes another sip of his coffee. "Most of them didn't seem to mind our presence," Steve agrees with Detective Chimp. "But the carnivores did. Even some of the small ones. There was one, about the size... well, a very large dog. Or maybe a wolf. But reptilian. It had crest that flares out, and it spit a toxic substance. An agent got surprised by one. He's not going to lose his vision, but it was a near thing for awhile, I believe," Steve shares.

On the screen the dinosaurs all seem to be getting a little skittish. In the distance, a large predator comes over a hill. It's bigger than a T-Rex, but with a longer snout. The voice dubs it an allosaurus and begins going into what is known about its hunting and behavior.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp will point out the behavior where the others are sensing the larger one coming "They know the big guy is coming, some of them probably were hoping the new thing might be easier for it to eat." He hmms and nods his head a bit and says "Were there any extra large mammals there as well?"

Jessica Drew has posed:
"Ooooh, of course. That Logan."

The camera focuses on the newly arriving dinosaur, eliciting a long, low exclamation from Jessica. "Whoaaaaa, it looks like you alerted every predator in the area. This ought to get fun."

She nods acknowledging Detective Chimp's observation.

"Yes, eggs. Theropods were egg layers."

Steve Rogers has posed:
Steve motions to the camera. "This is actually just the view from the base out over the plains. The road we were on, which led to a crumbling old bridge. Which, incidentally, crumbled... is off that way," He says motioning to one side of the screen. "There are definitely some big cats, sabretooth ones. Large aggressive... ah... gorillas," Steve says, hoping he's not saying something offensive for Detective Chimp. "A number of the normal predators you might find in regular jungles, thought the dinosaurs seem the top level predators," he says.

The large meat-eating-a-saurus stalks along, the other creatures mostly giving it room. The brontosaurus stand their ground though, moving together, and after considering them, the allosaurus moves on.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp hmms and nods his head a bit to this and says "Ok so large but not giant, no giant sloths, no king kong, nothing like that?" He pulls a flask from his jacket and tops off his coffee, offering it to Jess first figuring she is more likely than cap, but he gets offered it as well.

Jessica Drew has posed:
"I haven't been read the briefing on this mission. What or who was behind all of these dinosaurs being on the scene? They look like they are thriving."

"Hah!" Jess exclaims before Rogers can answer. "Herding instincts and size keep them safe. Smart lizards."

Jess shakes her head, smiling at the offer, reaching for the lidded cup she had posed on the floor next to her chair, then, raises it in a salute to the Detective. "Thanks. Not during the day. Sensitive metabolism."

Steve Rogers has posed:
Steve Rogers hesitates at confirming the query from Detective Chimp. "I don't know that we can say for sure. I don't believe we've really explored more than a small section of the Savage Lands. And there are places there that predate mankind according to Lara. By millions of years possibly."

Steve takes another sip of his own coffee and then looks to Jessica. "Apparently someone, aliens of some type, set up the area long ago. Experimentation quite likely, but I don't think we really have our heads around exactly what they were doing there," he explains to her. "The whole area is like some kind of... land that time forgot," he explains to her. "And the Brood had landed there and were infesting the creatures."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp hmmms and nods his head a bit to this and says "I would like to go the next time there is an expedition, see if I could find out any information from the locals, and see what they have to say."

Jessica Drew has posed:
"The Brood," Jess muses, half to herself. "You used the past tense, Captain. That sounds positive. Did we get any help from the Shi'ar on that?"

Steve Rogers has posed:
Steve starts to answer Jessica. Then pauses in hesitation. "Here, let me point you to the relevant reports. I was literally in and out of the situation going back and forth between Antarctica and New York. So if I try to convey it I think I might get some of it wrong unintentionally," he tells her.

Steve works the computer, not his favorite thing, but basics like email he'd managed well enough. He finds the right report and flags it for Jessica to be able to review at her leisure.

Finished with that, he takes another sip from his coffee mug. To Detective Chimp, Steve says, "Well, we have a permanent base down there now. So could always volunteer for a rotation through it. Though hopefully the worst of the situation there is resolved now. Which would mean, more time for research. I imagine I'm going to be back frequently enough with Lara."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp hmms and nods his head a bit to this and is quiet for a bit not thinking and listening.

Jessica Drew has posed:
"Thanks for that. If I see Erickson, maybe he can give me the down low. He's always up on their whereabouts." Rising, coffee cup in her hand, she looks from Rogers to the Detective. "I need to get back to the office. Thanks for sharing the screening, Captain. Good to see you, Detective Chimp."
