A Day in the Life
Date of Scene: 06 May 2020
Location: Main Foyer
Synopsis: Alex and Emma stop by the X-Mansion to let people know they're going on a trip and chat with Illyana, Marie-Ange, Warren, and James while they're there. Cookies are had.
Cast of Characters: Alex Summers, Emma Frost, Marie-Ange Colbert, Illyana Rasputina, Warren Worthington, James Proudstar

Alex Summers has posed:
It's a normal day at the mansion, as much as normal applies. With Sauron captured, the dinosaur and gorilla transformations reversed and everyone more or less recovering, it might even be considered a peaceful day, for the moment.

With that in mind, Alex has driven out to the school with Emma, mostly to let his brother know he's going to be out of town to celebrate the end of his dissertation (and Emma's first vacation since grade school). And just to check in and make sure nothing has exploded as of yet.

It's always good to make sure.

Alex opens the door for Emma as they arrive. "Mm, if the temps keeping shooting up, we should do an ice cream social thing or something to cool down. Oooh, or those shaved ice stand things. Heh, I should sell Jubilee on that to go with her lemonade stand...."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma steps into the foyer, nodding. "I'm sure her entrepreneurial spirit would appreciate the additional opportunity," she agrees. She glances around, moving into the room and checking to see who else is around. There are a couple of folks she's not really fond of, and the feeling is mutual. "Ice cream social... isn't that a make-your-own sundae kind of thing?"

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
It is a normal day at the mansion, and a fairly normal day for Marie as well. Her daily readings have largely kept her in her room more often than not the last couple days, but there's only so long that a girl can stay cooped up in her room.

Even when that girl is Marie, who's quite comfortable being there.

So, instead, she's been seated on the stairway, palms resting on the pouch currently residing in her lap, just... almost meditating a bit before the sound of the front door opening causes her to startle a bit. "Oh! Monsieur Summers, Mademoiselle Frost!" she chirps, moving quickly to her feet and dropping into a polite curtsey. "It is good to see you both again; what brings you to our humble school today?"

Illyana Rasputina has posed:
What is nice, normal, and 'within spectrum?' No nascent Uriel unleashing the Word of the Almighty in tongues of fire, no prescient robots trying to annihilate those of a given phenotype, and certainly no embarrassment originating from untimely hunts that take down quarry by portal oin the foyer.

Nothing has exploded, but isn't Tabitha roaming around Genosha?

Double sword hilts riding over her shoulder, leather pants and a long t-shirt, this constitutes typical fare for Illyana when not directly hunting anything. Those heavy-duty boots probably intend to curbstomp a passing demon. Keys jangle around her fingertip, that's new. The sound clinks and dances, metal jouncing back and forth. Maybe something calling up her brother, probably not. She swings out from one of the lesser used hallways, leaning against the entrance in anticipation of something. What, that's not easy to be sure.

"Ms. Frost," she notes languidly. "Alex. Good to see you back, da?"

Warren Worthington has posed:
Warren enters from the front entrance wearing a light pink dress shirt and a white silk suit, some expensive designer suit from Italy as he is prone to do. In one hand he carries a box. The other hand is free and he raises that hand and gives a wave. "Hello everyone. And Emma, I see you have decided to come and visit this place once more." He waves the box in one hand. "I have brought presents, and I was going to go to the kitchens with them but since there's so many fine people right here, well..."

He opens the box and in it are several tins of cookies. Four tins of a dozen each to be exact. "I have here cookies from Milk Bar. A dozen cornflake chocolate chip marshmallow cookies, a dozen compost cookies, a dozen confetti cookies and a dozen corn cookies." He steps over to the steps and puts the box down and gestures. "They're all good, so try one of each!"

James Proudstar has posed:
James Proudstar enters from the back of the Mansion, moving across the central space as he catches wind of the gathering in the foyer. A dark brow raises and a bit of a grin touches his features as he speaks, "Someone decide we're having a party?" He's certainly not dressed for one, having clearly been out working on landscaping duties, given that he looks like he's been playing in trees and dirt.

Alex Summers has posed:
"Apparently we're having a cookie party..." Alex says amusedly, reaching over to snag one of the offered cookies from Warren's box as he munche son i. "Though I'm not against it, it's a good day for celebration." He grins. "I finished my dissertation, it's defended and turned in, and allll done."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma kisses Alex on the cheek lightly, looking pleased. "Hey, Warren," she greets him. She gives Marie-Ange a warm smile as well. "Marie, Illyana, James." She reaches for a cookie of her own. "Mm. Alex wanted to let Scott know we're heading to Aruba on Friday night. So he doesn't think I've kidnapped his little brother for some nefarious plot."

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
Marie slowly looks around as people seem to be popping right out of the woodwork -- though, in /this/ school, doing so literally would not be out of the question for some of the students. At least the gathered bunch include some of those that she knows better than some of the others, so this clearly isn't the dark time ahead. "A day for celebration, oui. After what we have suffered, this would be nice, non?" she asks, making her way down the stairs to collect one of the offered cookies, after a brief consultation with the cards. "Merci, Monsieur Worthington." There's a dainty little bite taken, her free hand raising to wave towards Illyana and Jimmy as she chews.

Once she swallows, she adds, "Though I would caution against too much celebration. The cards have suggested dark times lie ahead once more, though tonight..." ...tonight actually seems pretty hopeful.

Illyana Rasputina has posed:
Warren Worthington comes bearing gifts, and the Russian's response is illuminated such: "Are you Greek?" Literally just that, painted with a deadpan accommodation that gives a fatalistic cast to Illyana's humour. Her lidded gaze measures those who come and go from the safety of her shadowy overlook, though the slow uncoiling of her smirk is rather like a cat deciding to rise from a perch overlooking the window, march midway through the hall, and sit facing away from everyone. Her brows slip slightly upward a notch, pinned thus. "A dissertation. This is the thing done in university? An argument on a point they must prove wrong or decide they like it?" And this, everyone, is how a questionably whatever-year-old parses whatever those crazy people call adult life.

Marie-Ange's declaration brings an upnod; fellow redhead is a smart one, after all, and she distinguishes herself by seaking up. "One day, maybe soon, I shall ask you to read?"

Warren Worthington has posed:
"Oh, Aruba! That sounds lovely, I'm sure the two of you will have plenty of -fun- on your little holiday." Warren grins at Alex and Emma and gives Alex one of those 'attaboy' nods. "Congratulations on getting your dissertation finished, that's a huge accomplishment." He takes a cookie and starts to munch on it as he looks over at the others, Illy in particular. "Greek? Not that I know of. I mean, I've been compared to Adonis before, does that count?" Marie-Ange gets a nod in return for her thanks, and Jimmy? "Have a cookie or three, Jimmy. Looks like you've been working hard today."

James Proudstar has posed:
Jimmy pulls off the work gloves he had been wearing and tucks them into his belt for now, carefully reaching to pluck up a single cookie. Not because he doesn't like cookies or not because he couldn't eat a whole lot more, but because he tries not to eat his weight class when it comes to surprise communal food around here.

"Aruba for nefarious plans, got it. I'll make sure to tell Scott." He deadpans, though there's at least a glimmer of humor on his face that makes it clear he's joking.

Alex Summers has posed:
"I don't think we have anything more nefarious than sleeping in as late as we want." Alex notes dryly, sliding an arm around Emma absently then nodding to Illyanna. "That's right. You write a paper on a subject that you can add to in your field - mine was a study of meteorites and studying material composition - then you have to defend it to a committee of professors in your or associated fields, that are responsible for helping you work out the theory. Then after the defense, they approve it then it's a matter of paperwork and getting everything turned in to make it official so you can graduate." He shrugs. "Which is mostly just a lot of work later on to make sure you've addressed every question from teh committee in a way that at least shows you considered it, even fi you don't agree."

Emma Frost has posed:
"Sleeping in, lazing on the beach, drinks with tiny umbrellas," Emma says with a grin. "That is my evil plan, at least." She takes a second cookie, then glances to Marie-Ange. "Dark times?" she asks with a lifted brow.

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
"I am at your service whenever you desire, Mademoiselle Illyana." Marie assures her, lips curving into a fond smile. Seeking her prescience is a great way to get on the French girl's good side, and their adventures on the battlefield certainly didn't hurt that in the slightest. Taking another bite of her cookie, she listens to what Alex has to say, and claps as best she can with about half a cookie still in one hand. "Congratulations, then! That seems like quite the trial, but you have bested it!" a bright smile -- though, it fades a bit towards Emma. "Oui. My personal readings have suggested isolation lies ahead... though, that may simply be the end of the school year approaching. It is hard to say for certain, at this point."

...definite sadness in her voice at /that/ comment. She really needs to go talk to the Professor ASAP. "But, today is not a day for sorrow, oui? We must celebrate Monsieur Summers' triumph!"

Illyana Rasputina has posed:
Considering Illyana has yet to claim a cookie, she can forfeit hers. A bit of an inclination of her head when Jimmy is off grabbing one makes silently plain her purpose, giving tacit permission for him to swipe another if Warren doesn't smack him in the face with a well-placed wing. "I do not mind." Eyes traced in arctic shadows barely claim the hue of blue, and they drown behind a sheet of blonde hair swept from behind her ear. "Meteorites. You are an astronomer? Or geology?" she asks Alex, not disinterested in the others, but typically laconic on a good day. Whether today is a good day or a normal one, let it be left to speculation as an idle curl fo her mouth deepens a little. Her opinions on Aruba buttoned down other than a languid shoulder-roll, up until Emma speaks freely of sleeping in. "But why would you want to?"

Piotr is in the building, somewhere. This question is singularly terrible to answer and the wise would run, now. She nods dryly to Marie-Ange about the tarot reading. "Da, we should talk then. James, eat the cookie."

Warren Worthington has posed:
"Meteorites eh?" Warren asks while munching down on his cookie. "Maybe I should hire you to create some new space mining firm for Worthington Industries since I've heard that's going to be one of the big future industries. Space mining. Which reminds me of this video game, EVE Online. Some guy got me to try it. I did some space mining before I got my ass beat by other people being space pirates. That sucked."

He finishes off his cookie and then looks at Marie-Ange. "Oh hey, I have been meaning to ask you, can I get a reading some day soon? I'm really curious to see what the cards have to say about my future."

James Proudstar has posed:
Jimmy glances at Illyana, perhaps smirks just a tiny bit, and does take a second cookie. He only eats the one, though after finishing it notes, "Pretty good. Thanks Warren." He does give Illyana a bit of a befuddled look at her lack of sleeping in. Not that he's ordinarily anything but an early riser, but he does enjoy sleeping in every once in a while, at least.

Alex Summers has posed:
"Geophyics, related to geology. I study more formation of the earth than the rocks themselves though. Volcanism, meteorite impacts, that sort of thing." Alex explains. "More how things got how they are, than analyzing rocks and minerals over time." He frown a little at Marie-Ange. "Well...if you know isolation is in the cards...can you maybe alter that, go out and see if anyone is doing stuff for spring break, maybe find some people to hang out at? Join a camping thing, stuff like that?"

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma stage whispers, "He likes space rocks," in that playful 'I humor him' tone. Though the cheeky grin she shoots Alex indicates that she's teasing. She looks at Warren. "Space mining? Space pirates? Please. Like Alex wants to float around in a space suit carving up Mars or whatever." Yes, this is really not a topic she's versed in.

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
"You know where my room is, oui?" is asked of Illyana -- it's an easy place to find her, afterall. Then Warren gets another bright smile, and another cookie is seized. "Gladly, Monsieur Worthington; my gift is available to everyone here at their pleasure. Simply seek me out when you are ready, and I will be glad to." ...then to Alex, she shakes her head again. "Non -- the cards... they tell me of what /will/ be. They serve as warning to prepare for that which cannot be changed." ...which, right now, she suspects means that she's going to end up back in France after this grade year ends.

Illyana Rasputina has posed:
A smirk for a smirk. Illyana wordlessly raises her hand in a muted farewell. "Da, I do. Good night, I think. Time to hunt." With that said in the driest of tones, she ghosts away when the conversation turns elsewhere. Perhaps the easiest outcome, slipping in shadows.

Warren Worthington has posed:
"Oh I got you, Alex. That makes a lot more sense." Warren nods, and gives Emma a quick, amused look. "I wouldn't ask him to go charging off in a suit to mine with a pick axe or something, no it's about planning for the future when we have space craft to go and use laser beams and other gadgets to collect rocks for processing elsewhere." He watches Illy head off, then nods to Jimmy. "Glad you like them, Jimmy. I always love the cookies and cakes at this place." And then to Marie. "Oh awesome. I look forward to that, I look forward to hearing what the cards have to say. Hopefully only good things!"

James Proudstar has posed:
"Well, I'm gonna head up and clean off. Thanks again Warren, and if I don't see you, have a fun time on your trip, you two." He offers to Alex and Emma, and then with a brief smile for Marie-Ange, "And I'm sure I'll see you around, Marie-Ange." And with his excuses made, Jimmy heads up the stairs towards his room.

Alex Summers has posed:
Alex hmmms at Marie-Ange. "That's...disconcerting from the perspective of free choice, but okay. I wonder if that means you fix futures in place by using your powers, or if you just see what can't be avoided." He smirks at WArren. "Sure, or water, metals, oil, whatever. Geophysics is mostly about scanning the ground noninvasively to find things. Artifacts too. It's why archeology was my minor, the two fields compliment each other."

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
There's a wave to Illyana as she departs, and a slow nod towards Warren, "We can hope, to be certain. The cards, and any reader worth her ability, are honest before they are kind. Reading them inaccurately, even for the sake of sparing one's feelings, can lead to disaster. I would not purposefully do this to anyone." ...she can attest to that personally, having gotten bowled over a bit by an ex-girlfriend's enthusiasm and mis-interpreting what the cards meant. Speaking of which... "I do hope so, Monsieur Proudstar. Be safe, oui?"

Then to Alex? There's a quick shake of her head; "I... do not wield such power. I bear witness to fate's decisions, I do not make them for her, nor would I wish to." A pause and she adds, "But, sometimes, fate changes her mind." ...which is why she's sometimes wrong with her initial readings, she's decided! It's the only way that makes sense. "I should get going, though. Monsieur, Mademoiselle, be well on your trip... and merci beaucoup once more for the kind gift, Monsieur Worthington." A demure bow of her head, and Marie makes her way towards one of the foyer's many exits.

Warren Worthington has posed:
Warren stares at Marie-Ange for a moment and then nods, "I guess that all makes sense, but I still look forward to seeing what they say." He waves to her and Jimmy as they both depart. "I guess I should be heading on as well. Take these cookies to the kitchens so more of the students can enjoy them." He grins and looks to Alex and Emma. "Congratulations again, Alex. I hope you and Emma have an enjoyable vacation. Drink in the time you have together in that peaceful bliss. Time always moves so fast." He takes up the tins of cookies and gives them a little wave. "You all take care."

Alex Summers has posed:
"Take care Marie!" Alex offers as she heads off, privately resolving to just see about this whole 'can't change the future thing'. Surely he can at least invite her out with people for dinner and chats or something. There's got to be other X-students sticking around for the summer, right?

"Thanks." Alex says to Warren, nodding. "We're looking forward to the down time honestly....after the Genosha thing and the gorillas vs. dinosaurs, a little time to ourselves on a beach sounds like heaven, honestly. Good chance to recharge, you know? See you around!" he adds, waving to Warren as he heads off..
