Synopsis: Mary Bromfield applies for a manager position at the Rise N Grind-- and she gets it!
Cast of Characters: Emma Frost, Mary Bromfield

Emma Frost has posed:
The Rise N Grind is looking for a new manager! Their previous one has decided to move to California, leaving this neato 80s themed coffee shop in the lurch. So what to do? Look for a new one, of course! The owner, Ms. Jane, has been reaching out to those who have left fantastic resumes for her to peruse, and since this particular one has experience at the Coffee Bean, she seems like she might be great! So, Ms. Jane calls and sets up an interview.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary was definitely nervous about the interview... I mean, working at the 'Bean was great, but... well, she was also thinking about the future. And when the opening came up for the Rise N Grind, well, why not? If she could manage to play Den Mother for four foster brothers and go to school and work as a barista and occasional journalist (not to mention being a superhero)... this shouldn't be too bad, right?

So, Mary walked into the shop, dressed rather sharply in an outfit that, well, isn't exactly haute couture but it is a pretty respectable business interview outfit. White shirt, black jacket, and black slacks as she actually has a bit of a heel in her shoes... which, she's not entirely used to, honestly. Really, in her mind she's thinking of this as cosplay. Cosplay as Mary Bromfield, soon to be Rise N Grind manager!

One hopes!

Emma Frost has posed:
Ms. Jane is a character. Big plastic-framed neon pink glasses, poofy greying hair in a big 80s style, neon green leggings and a sweatshirt that says 'RADICAL!' When Mary walks in, she hops up from one of the tables and gives her a great big smile. "YOU must be MARY. I just loved your resume. I am SO SO SO happy to meet you. I'm Jaaaaane, the owner of the Rise N Grind." She offers her hand to shake. "Let's talk!" she gestures towards a table with a pair of zebra-print chairs.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary grins, "Wow, hi, and yes, I'm Mary." She takes the offered hand, shaking it politely, "Glad you liked the resume! I have to say, this place definitely has character." She moves towards the offered table, taking a seat there as she smiles warmly back at Jane, tilting her head slightly as she definitely looks like she likes this place already.

Emma Frost has posed:
"So, MARY." Jane settles into her chair cheerfully. "What is your favorite coffee drink? Everyone has one, and they always make their favorite THE BEST, so I want to know what your BEST is!"

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary grins, "Oh, that's easy, dark chocolate mocha latte, with an extra shot of espresso. I just love the richness of that with the jolt of caffeine, considering my schedule... every little bit helps, you know?" She smiles at Jane, finding the owner's charm very infectious indeed.

Emma Frost has posed:
Jane nods, looking pleased. "How long have you been at the Coffee Bean? What do you like about working in a coffee shop? Tell me everything." She leans forward, absolutely chipper. "And would you like something to drink?"

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary nods, "I started working there when I was sixteen, so it's been two years now, almost three. And well, I love the fact that they've been really flexible with the hours, and the people I meet are just amazing. It's a real variety of people coming through." She smiles, "And sure, I'd love a... well, a dark chocolate mocha latte, honestly." Because she might be thinking she needs to match up with Jane's level of chipper, but she definitely is enjoying the interview.

Emma Frost has posed:
Jane leans over towards the counter, calling towards the barista behind it, "TWO dark chocolate mocha lattes! Pleaseeee?" And she turns back to Mary. "So, tell me why you think you'd be a good fit for a manager. Any experience herding cats, dealing with folks who are grouchy a bit?"

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary grins, "Well, since I'm the oldest of six foster kids in my house, I like to think I'm an expert in the fine art of cat herding. Especially since four of them are little brothers." She smiles, "But yes, I've been the honorary Den Mother in our house since I was fourteen. Trying to make sure things get done with a mix of the carrot and the stick. Mostly the carrot, though, since that tends to produce better results."

She nods, "And grouchy... well, yeah, downtown New Yorkers can get that way before that first shot of coffee, but I've found that just letting them know that things'll get done and they got nothing to worry about helps a lot. Just be genuine, you know? Let them know that you care, and you want to make sure //they// have a great day."

Emma Frost has posed:
"Yeah. A great day! That's what we're about here at the Rise N Grind! Everyone should have a GREAT day!" She bounces in her chair a bit, just as the barista brings over a pair of lattes. Jane... may be on her third or fourth of the day, from the amount of exuberance she's packing. "It's great to have little brothers, and boy, they do need to be herded. That's definitely a point in your favor!" She takes a sip of her drink. "You mentioned flexible hours-- what is your availability?"

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary smiles, "Well, I'm currently working on my journalism degree, but most of my classes are online, so I'm pretty flexible there." She nods, taking her latte and having a careful sip, "But yeah, my brothers are ranging twelve to fifteen, Billy and Freddy actually have a podcast they run, so I've been picking up some streaming information from them." She grins, "But yeah, honestly if I'm not busy I feel like something weird's going on."

Emma Frost has posed:
"That sounds perfect!" Jane gives Mary a big grin. "Okay, so, here's... oh, where did I put it?" She pats her pockets, then brings out a folded piece of paper and hands it over to Mary. "Here's salary offer, and benefits-- they ain't great, but I do what I can for my people." The salary is... actually pretty decent for a coffee house manager, and the benefits aren't terrible.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary blinks, and looks at the salary. Yeah, it might not be /that/ much for a manager, but it's a heck of a lot more than a typical barista for sure. She then grins, looking a bit dumbfounded as she looks over at Jane.

"Wow... um, you mind if I don't pretend to think it over?" She smiles even wider at that, as if thinking about how this is really going to help at home.

Emma Frost has posed:
Jane laughs brightly. "I don't mind at all, sweetie. So you'll take it?" She bounces. "If so, we can talk turkey and get you set up to start as soon as you'd like!"

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary grins, "Definitely, Jane. You have yourself a manager." She smiles cheerfully, "And well, I would like to give the Bean two weeks notice, obviously. Just to be fair to them, but other than that I can start whenever is best for you."

Emma Frost has posed:
"That's great! So thoughtful and considerate." Jane actually seems pleased with this. "I knew you were the one when you walked in. Let's head back to the office and get everything set up, and we'll see you in a couple of weeks!" And with that, she ushers Mary back to do paperwork and get everything squared away.
