Date of Scene: 17 May 2020
Location: Katz's Deli
Synopsis: Piotr pays off the pool debt and takes Kitty to Katz's Deli for dinner.
Cast of Characters: Piotr Rasputin, Kitty Pryde

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr is a man of his word and as per the terms of the pool wager, scheduled a dinner with Kitty at Katz'. Piotr is in a good mood today, the lull between sessions allows him to actually breathe a little, especially after surviving his first year as a teacher. His biggest problem today is actually deciding what he wants, so many good options, though a couple he knows to avoid . After some careful reading of the menu he went with the strategy of getting the hot pastrami with some fries, a frankfurter, and a soft drink. Like his work, he takes his food selection seriously.

Once he has it ready he is ready to pay the ticket, a moment of panic overtakes Piotr as he thinks he had lost it, only to find it between his hand and the tray holding the food. At the register the large Russian pays, for both if Kitty allows, and finds a seat at a table, fortunately one with a wall to a side, so that they aren't stranded in the middle of the dining room.

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty doesn't get her favorite sandwich, though Piotr might have noticed her staring at the station where it's made. She looks over to him and sighs. "Told my friend Janice I'd come here with her to get our favorite, and we haven't been able to meet up. I've been back in the States nearly three months and still haven't had it!" she complains woefully.

She gets a reuben instead, with fruit and a pickle, and a slice of cheesecake for dessert. As they carry their food over to the table, Kitty glances over at the Meg Ryan table. "Always someone there," she says with a grin. "I have managed to get it twice, though both times it was pretty late at night and not too crowded," she says of the table with the sign identifying it as having been the one in the movie.

"Thanks for this. You really didn't have to, you know," the Jewish girl says with a grin as she takes a seat at the table.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
"That's fair," Piotr says with a nod, "At least it seems like there aren't any bad choices here! Da, things do get messy fast for scheduling, but I hope you are both able to enjoy it soon," he says. The Russian looks around the deli and notes, "I've never been here before, tourists usually clogging up the lines when I am in this part of town.

Piotr looks over when the famous table is referred to and gives a nod, "That does not surprise me, while it was not a big movie in Russia, that scene has had staying power in pop culture." He nods and continues, "And it is not a problem at all, I mean it. It sounded like a good idea," he gives his own grin in response and sits down. Piotr is able to actually fit in his seat here, or at least not having to squeeze his shoulders in to not be in everybody's way, it helps that the tables are made for four.

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty Pryde picks up her sandwich and takes a bite. After swallowing it she says, "Mmm. This is a good one too though." She smiles as she looks across the table at Piotr. "So, been a long time," she says, the girl having been away at college for two years with only rare trips home. And those as likely as not for emergencies where her help was needed.

"I'm still trying to figure out what to do with myself. I don't quite know that I want to go find a job yet. But I also kind of feel like I could use a break from school," she tells him. "Though I wouldn't mind access to some more lab space. The school is great for electronics, but there are some other things I wouldn't getting to experiment with. Which, would probably mean school," she says with a sigh. "What about you, Piotr? Are you planning on sticking with teaching?"

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr's first objective is the pile of fries and the frankfurter, which he seems to enjoy plain. "It has been a long time. Seems like an age," he nods, "But there are plenty of options at least, but for lab space couldn't you work with Hank on some of it." He thinks as he eats, getting the weird ambivalence of eating good food and serious thinking. Once he has finished his bite, Piotr responds, "If you wish to go into the field or dabble here and there before committing to school again, that is a valid option, you can always return to school, the trouble with school in our line of work is that it's scheduling isn't as flexible as we'd like it to be. I somehow was able to juggle it during my studies." A beat, "But if you are not ready for a career quite yet, you could stick around the Institute, you are a great help around there, especially with kids that think they can outsmart your systems, each new class seems to think that, judging by the commentary in the staff room," he snorts.

When the topic shifts back to him, Piotr thinks, finishes his frankfurter and says, "I think I will stick with it for the time being. Most of my classes are electives, so the students in there actually want to be there instead of having to be there like English, math, and so on. I think maybe some day I'd like to just paint, but that can wait. At least at the Institute I am able to multitask, and also help the children find a safe haven."

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Continues eating her sandwich slowly, alternating bites of it with some of the sliced fruit that is her side dish. "Balancing college and Excalibur had its difficulties," Kitty agrees. "One reason I'm rather enjoying not having to focus on classes. And, well, yes there's the labs we have, but there are some things that just are on a scale I'd need to be with those at the cutting edge of the research," she says. "Went back to University of Chicago to help with an incident," she says.

Anti-mutant group, if Piotr read the mission reports he'd have heard how a group from the school stopped Purity from releasing the names of mutant students at the university there.

"I'd actually looked at their graduate programs. Though... Piotr, I really like being back around everyone here. As much as I loved Oxford, I think I want to stick around Westchester or at least New York for awhile."

Kitty smiles as Piotr brings up his painting. "I'd love to see you spending more time painting again," she tells him. "You know if you ever needed a subject, I'd be happy to sit for you," she teases.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Fries and the rest of the Frankfurter are consumed as Piotr listens and eventually rubs his chin as he ponders, "I had heard of that, glad you got that stopped. We have a hard enough time out there as it is." He then nods and smiles, "That would be excellent, it'd keep you around here and give you the resources you need. I am a bit biased towards Columbia, but you can't blame me for that," a grin, "What would you want to study? I have no doubt whatever you pursue you will excel at, though."

When the topic shifts to painting, Piotr smiles, "You are always welcome to see my work, and I would be glad to have you sit for me!" and takes a bite of the pastrami. Then the mustard hits. Piotr is quick to try and wash it down with his soda. "I... was not ready for that, but yes, I would be glad to paint you."

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty muses for a moment. "Perhaps Astrophysics. Or... well, probably physics in some capacity at the least," she says after giving it some thought. "Well, it's getting kind of late for me to decide anyway. If I don't commit to continuing school somewhere soon, it'll be too late until the midyear semester. Which is fine, I don't really think I'm in a rush," she says.

Kitty gives a soft grin as Piotr gets a bit too much of the mustard. "Sure, anytime you'd like, just let me know," Kitty says with a smile of being a subject for one of Piotr's paintings. She takes another bite of her rueben, enjoying it immensely from the looks of it.

"So any other plans for the summer? Anywhere you're thinking of going for vacation? Any trips back to Russia anytime soon?" she asks.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
"That would be interesting," Piotr says, and takes another drink to help stop the burning. "Hm, well, at least you would be a competitive candidate for most programs." He makes a little more progress on the pastrami, "But you are right, no need to rush right now. You have plenty of time, in the big picture, to take care of this. A breather might even help?"

"Then it is settled, it shall be done," Piotr says with a nod. Once the topic changes to vacation plans, he says, "I haven't made any plans, yet. Given some thought to maybe visiting Russia again, it actually can be rather nice back home in the summer, though yes, the winters are a bit rough. Grew up not too far from Lake Baikal." He gestures vaguely to the East. "But might look at a road trip or something similar, depends on work, but it might end up being something spontaneous. How about you, big plans?"

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty's Russian is pretty good. There's an accent but not strong enough of one to make her difficult to understand. And she came by the language the old-fashioned way, learning it herself through her friendship with Illyana, and likely in part driven by her girlhood crush on the older Rasputin. Kitty says in Russian, "I'm sure it would be nice to go back home again. There's nothing quite like where you grew up," she says.

She stirs at the sliced fruit in her bowl, moving the bits of honeydew, cantaloupe, grapes and watermelon about. "My own trips back to Deerfield lately haven't been able to be as nostalgic," she says, and Kitty's downcast tone likely enough to clue Piotr in she was probably going home to be with her mother, after Kitty's father was killed on Genosha.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
"Your Russian is rather good!" Piotr remarks with approval in his native tongue. "But yes, it is good, though at some times it is bittersweet, a reminder of what could have been." A few more spicy bites of sandwich later, he listens and gives a little frown, "I understand," a beat, "If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know. Again, I am so sorry." His tone is somber, a change from the earlier mirth.

Kitty Pryde has posed:
"Thanks Piotr," Kitty tells him, pushing a bit more of a grateful smile to her face to give over to him. She was a different girl in those first weeks and months after Genosha. The normal warmth that marked her was replaced with more of a mask that avoided making others deal with what she was feeling inside.

But lately, more of the old Kitty has been emerging. The warmth and friendliness given freely and often to those around her. Kitty takes another bite of her sandwich, glancing over as the table from the movie frees up and three different couples descend on it rapidly to try to grab it.

Kitty lets out a soft laugh. "I bet most of them go back home after and... ah... re-enact the movie," she says with a playful little grin. One of the couples wins out, having grabbed one of the chairs and set down their food already.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr musters a smile to provide some support, "I mean it, you need anything, you give me a call, a text, or anything." He may not be the most observant, but he can pick up on this, the sandwich at least gives him time to think, but the topic shift to The Table (tm). It was as hectic as Kitty mentioned, and fairly humorous. The frostiness melts and he gives a snort of amusement at the scamper.

When Kitty mentions the table, "Oh, I had not thought of that," Piotr says as he blinks and a bit of redness shows up on his cheeks, though he does manage a laugh at that commentary. "I should not be surprised, though. I mean, it makes sense, I just, had not thought of that."

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty smiles across the table. "Thank you, Piotr. I appreciate it. You've always been there for me," she tells him warmly. Kitty takes another bite of her sandwich, glancing over at the movie table as the couple are grinning and talking excitedly. "I've always liked this place. Not just getting to watch stuff like that, but it's got such a bustle to it," she says, glancing around the busy, iconic New York eatery.

She turns back to Piotr and says, "Thanks again for dinner. Have been meaning to get back out here, even if I haven't been able to make it with my other friend," she tells him. "So are you all set to go with graduation? Are you doing anything special for it? A lot of those graduating were in my class, so it's going to be great to see them going through," Kitty says. She'd started taking college classes at 16, before deciding to go ahead and enroll at Oxford full-time, graduating from Xavier's early.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr nods, "I like it, will have to visit here again at some point." He makes some progress on his sandwich, "It certainly is interesting, and one can almost hide in the crowd, here." He looks around a little more, "Definitely different from rural Russia." The large man is visibly comfortable here, despite kind of sticking out like a sore thumb.

"I got my grades in, so that's the hardest part. More worried about the reception, I made the mistake of volunteering to manage that, but I think it will be fine. Your former classmates will probably be happy to see you!" Piotr nods, "I'll miss the ones that will be leaving us, but I am proud of all of them."

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty nods and says, "It's always tough seeing people move on. I kind of got spared that, being the one who was gone." She stirs at her fruit. "Though was nice having Kurt over there with me for stretches," she says of England.

Kitty glances around the place and grins. "Do you like being able to blend in then?" she asks the big Russian. "For such a big guy, you sure are gentle, Piotr," Kitty comments to him, picking up her sandwich that she's worked her way through pretty well to take another bite.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr Rasputin says, "That I understand, big moves are a bit jarring," Piotr nods, "I have not seen my childhood friends in years. Though, I do have Illy here, so at least I have some ties from home here." He gives a smile, "At times, it is kind of nice to not be the center of attention sometimes, though hiding is rather difficult, especially out in the open, or when I am working."

The large Russian then nods in response to the final question, "My kitten is still a bit of a terror at times, he is lucky that he is adorable, though it has certainly made me order more canvas than I wanted to.""

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty Pryde's face lights up. "You have a kitten? I hadn't heard!" she says. "I'll have to come by and check him out sometime. Introduce him to Lockheed," she says. "A lot of animals, once they get used to him, take a liking. I think it's because he's so warm," she says of the little fire-breathing dragon.

Kitty takes another bite of her sandwich and then asks, "What's his name? And how'd you come by him anyway. Story time!" The young Jewish woman gives him a soft grin as she presses for details.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
"Indeed, his name is Boris," Piotr nods, and pulls out his phone to show pictures of the large striped kitten with radar sized ears and paws, "He is actually very sweet, just his form of play at times is destructive. I am sure Lockheed would like him," he says and ponders, "That might be why, also he is a dragon and that is always interesting to everybody." Piotr sets the phone down and says, "We were at a ramen shop when a door got left open and he climbed up into my lap demanding my food. At that point, Boris claimed me, apparently."

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty leans over to look at the phone. "Aw... so adorable!" Kitty says as she looks at them. "Yes, it does sound like he picked you out," she agrees as the story of the ramen shop comes out. "That's how it happens sometimes I think. Just fate brings you together. Kind of like that with Lockheed and I," she says with a small grin.

Kitty finishes up her sandwich and wipes her lips with her napkin. "Have to bring him back a little slice of roast beef," she says, eyeing the carving station that the deli has over along the wall where people get their food. "I'll definitely drop by to see him later," she says warmly.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr puts the phone back in his pocket, "It does seem to be the way things are. We might not understand why things go a way, but maybe it has a purpose." He finishes up his sandwich and says, "Thank you again for coming out here, and I will make a note to bring Boris for your painting, at worst he will be a little terror." Piotr then comments, "I am sure Lockheed would appreciate that, and be very upset if you didn't bring him any. Boris will not be so fortunate..." he whistles innocently. "But yes, we should meet together soon. I definitely had a lot of fun."
