The Hustle Is Forever
Date of Scene: 21 May 2020
Location: The Triskelion: Courtyard
Synopsis: Jamie Madrox appears outside the Triskellion looking to invite himself onto the roster. He encounters Natasha Romanoff. She is not receptive.
Cast of Characters: Jamie Madrox, Natasha Romanoff

Jamie Madrox has posed:
It's late morning outside the Triskelion. In fact, it's late morning everywhere in this and adjacent timezones. There's a motorcycle parked just off the main road that leads to the fenced off area and Jamie's sitting on it, eating a Milky Way bar with one hand while holding up a pair of binoculars to his eyes with the other.

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
A fairly nondescript and practical car in dark colors rolls into view from outside the Triskelion, in no particular hurry. It slows to a stop a short ways in front of the closed gate and idles there for several seconds with the motor still running, before the driver's side window rolls down. Out pops an elbow in a dark green jacket, followed shortly by the red haired head of a young woman with an oddly difficult to read expression on her face.
"... This isn't a good place to loiter, friend." She says in a soft, but very even. controlled voice.

Jamie Madrox has posed:
Jamie lowers the binoculars and finishes chewing before answering. "Actually, it's the perfect place to loiter if you want to get a good look at SHIELD's headquarters." he points out. "I googled for a virtual tour but couldn't find one." Go figure. "You work there I guess?"

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Agent Natasha Romanoff absorbs this quietly, letting it hang in the air for a very long feeling second before she replies, "I see." She lifts one finger and says "One second." before she disappears back into the car.
The engine to her car shuts off, and Natasha opens the driver side door and steps outside after securing a pistol behind her under her jacket. She shuts the door and leans her backside against it, crossing her arms and looking at Jamie evenly.
She seemingly decides not to directly answer the question directed at her, instead saying, "... SHIELD isn't big on tours, to my understanding. And they get paranoid fairly quickly." She then repeats, "This isn't a good place to loiter."

Jamie Madrox has posed:
Letting go of the binoculars so they dangle from the strap around his neck, Jamie reaches into his jacket pocket - slowly - and pulls out another chocolate bar. "Want a... Snickers?" he had to look to see which one he grabbed. "The recruitment page on the website was very boring. It could have been for any corporation. I want to see what its agents look like coming and going. Do they laugh, smile, look like they enjoy working here? Pretend to be James Bond?"

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha's weight pushes off of the car so she's standing straight so her hand can go behind her and reach for her gun, racing Jamie to the draw of... a... candy bar?
Natasha releases her gun without having drawn in and sighs softly, her brow knitting faintly with irritation in the first sign of an expression on her face. Still, the Agent - having many more years of experience under her belt than most could guess - refuses to let herself be distracted by the arrogance of their visitor, and just asks, "... You're not going to leave, are you?"

Jamie Madrox has posed:
"Well, I wasn't planning on camping out here." Jamie tells Natasha. "I got stuff to do. But I did want to see some agents. Maybe ask some questions. There's a diner not far from here. Why don't I buy you a cup of coffee? Say yes and you get me to leave now."

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha sighs very softly. "Can't. Appoinments to keep." she re-folds her arms and says, "So here's the deal. Shield doesn't really take many applicants. They generally find you. If you're something special, they'll find you... sooner or later. But if that's not fast enough, and you want their attention *now*..." Natasha inclines her body slightly towards the gate, "... quickest way, is to climb that fence. You're guaranteed... *some* kind of conversation."
Natasha looks back to Jamie and says, "It won't be your best foot forward, though. And if you waste their time..." Natasha's eyes narrow very slightly, "... You are likely to lose a great deal of yours." Natasha seems to become oddly relaxed, then, and says, "It's your call. I'd make it quickly, though, security's only going to tolerate so much more loitering."

Jamie Madrox has posed:
"It's not electrified?" Jamie asks, eyeing the fence. "That seems kinda lax for a spy agency. He takes the last bite of his Milky Way and chews as he considers the idea. "Actually, there's a quicker way." he decides, getting off the bike. "Hit me." Pause. "Not too hard." Tensing his abs, he pats them and spreads his arms with a bit of a smile.

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha quirks one eyebrow, and finds herself in a new place on the spectrum of distrust, somewhere between being asked to step into a bear trap, and being asked to show someone your feet. Softly but firmly she says "I'm not going to do that."

Jamie Madrox has posed:
"Disappointing." Jamie says, heaving a sigh as he drops his arms back to his side. "I don't think I'm going to climb the fence and get arrested. That could get my PI license yanked. How about a donut and coffee? I passed a donut place too. No?" He reaches for his pants pocket but then pauses. "Don't shoot me. It's my wallet." he says and then pulls it out to get a business card to offer. "You're going to run my tags anyway so you might as well have this."

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha stares at the offered hand very quietly for a long moment, just barely moving enough to put the card within arms reach before reaching out and taking the card between two fingers. She holds it up so she can skim it while looking over its edge at Jamie, and says, "Madrox. Got it. I'm sure someone will be in touch for... one thing or another."
Natasha opens the door of her car. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Madrox." She says softly as she drops into the driver's seat and shuts the door. "I hope you move your bike before someone shoots you."

Jamie Madrox has posed:
"I hope so too. I hate getting shot." Jamie answers. "Nice meeting you whoever you are." Since he's still got the Snickers, he opens the wrapper and takes a bite, intending to watch Natasha drive off. But then he'll head out. Like I said, he wasn't planning on camping here.
