- Matthew Murdock has posed:
Their chinese takeout in hand, Matt and Ruth enter the building housing Nelson & Murdock's office and head up the stairs. Anyone serendipitous enough to step out into the stair well in time to see a blind man and a young woman wearing a blind fold would have a slightly interesting story to tell.
Upon reaching the office, Matt unlocks the door and allows Ruth to enter before following her inside. Once there, he collapses his walking stick and stuffs it into his coat's inside chest pocket, then makes his way to the folding table that doubles as a place to keep the various baked goods provided by their clientele. "Would you like a glass of water?" he asks Ruth as he places his food down. "I believe the only other thing we can offer is luke warm coffee."
- Ruth Aldine has posed:
Anyone seeing the pair would absolutely be reminded of the phrase 'the blind leading the blind', and while it may be technically accurate in theory, in reality the pair are more than capable of 'seeing' what is needed, when needed. And so, with her box of fried rice in hand, the spoon stuck in a pocket, Ruth walks with Matt to the office.
The *click* of the door is telling, as is the *creak* of the door as it opens, and she is ushered into the room. Her hand is out, reaching for a chair that is there underhand, and she navigates the space easily. There's a soft kick here to check positioning, but all in all, she's got it.
"Water, yes, please," Ruth responds with a quick nod to her head, even if Matt can't see it. It's been trained into her as formality. "Thank you, very kind, yes."
A soft laugh sounds at the self-deprecating offer of coffee, and again, she responds first with a shake of her head, "No, sorry. I don't drink coffee. It's funny, yes, but no. I don't have problems staying awake, no, sorry." Sleeping, on the other hand, where she's not interacting with the world? When all those thoughts appear as dreams from others? Sleep is a hard commodity.
"I am fine, yes, thank you." There is a pause before, "How do you think I can help you, please?" It's a strange way to begin an interview; perhaps it's her way of asking what he would want from a new employee? "I am very good at seeing things, yes, that no cannot be seen. If I do not try, sorry."
- Matthew Murdock has posed:
Modest is a very polite way of describing the offices of Nelson & Murdock. If he were in the business to make money, he might be ashamed of that fact. Foggy was in the beginning, but he came around. That being said, at least they have a service-provided water fountain. In this case not as an extravagance but as a necessity. The plumbing in the building isn't the best and the water in the tap might be more unleathy than the sorry excuse for coffee cooling in the pot.
After pouring a cold glass of water for himself and Ruth, Matt returns to the table and places the drinks down and settles into his chair, digging into the plastic bag for his container of fried rice. How can she help? It's a good question. His rice container open and chopsticks in one hand, he rests his elbows against the table and pauses in thought, pressing his lips together. "How about we start with what types of things you can see." He shovels a bite into his mouth and pauses his chewing long enough to add, "Then we go from there."
- Ruth Aldine has posed:
Ruth leans forward to touch the glass, finding it's location in 'her space', and shifts it slightly to where she can reach it easily. Just little things, really. The *click* of chopsticks, heh.. something she's not even attempted. She doesn't need to be a clairvoyant to know she'd wear more than she'd manage to get into her mouth (and she's not in the habit of using telekinesis to eat!).
Sitting back in her chair, the blindfolded mutant breathes softly out, her words just as, "I can see things, yes please. Near, far.. no. Sorry, anywhere. In a picture." She shakes her head, and shifts in her seat before her hands start work on the small box of fried rice. The spoon is gained from pockets.
"You will get work, yes. Dangerous." There is another pause before, "I am sorry, much pain but success." As if that'll prove her words?
- Matthew Murdock has posed:
"'Much pain but success' sounds like an appropriate slogan for our law office," Matt utters through a genuine smile. Success in terms of winning cases, at least. Not financial success certainly.
She can see things. He isn't completely clear, but he has an idea of what she means. Not just like he can 'see' things, but seeing things in another place. Maybe even another time? The eyes behind the red sunglasses drift from side to side as he ponders her meaning. "I think I get it," he says before taking another bite and savoring it for a moment. "If you don't try, you mentioned." He looks at her quietly before continuing, "Are these images you see random?"
- Ruth Aldine has posed:
There is some discomfort in talking about her abilities; she's been called names, forced to hide, and with her visions, forced to see things that simply cannot be unseen, and still haunt her in dreams. Ruth mumbles something softly, though good hearing can always pick these things up. "For good. Pain for good, yes, please. Must always be good."
Ruth turns her attention briefly to the rice, a spoon, two.. and as she chews, she considers her responses. "If I do not try, sorry yes. It will come, and while it plays, it leaves behind a picture, yes." She nods her head, a single, quick response before, "Yes, random. Sometimes near, sometimes far. Sometimes I can do something, sometimes no. Never. Future, past, now, sorry, yes."
- Matthew Murdock has posed:
Upon asking Ruth about her ability, Matt immediately senses her discomfort. The slight increase in her heartrate, the hardly-discernable production of sweat. He opens his mouth to let her know that she doesn't have to discuss it if she prefers not to, but then he hears her mumbling and waits.
She can see things that are happening right now. Got it. "That's an amazing talent you have, Ruth." He offers the young woman a smile and then takes another bite of his rice. If she's able to let him know when people are in danger, it could save a lot of lives. His own pulse increases at the thought of it, but it seems as if there are some limitations. "I'm sorry for all of the questions. If you would like to not discuss your gifts, we can talk about something else."
He glances at her takeout food, "How's your rice?"
- Ruth Aldine has posed:
"Gifts," Ruth repeats, "Gifts, thank you. Some call it curse, sorry. Both and neither, yes." Her voice lowers, adding, "Strange and different, sorry."
The rice is attended to once more, and after another spoon, Ruth is settling in finally. "I expected questions, yes, thank you. And answers given when they are not to others." She offers a ghost of a smile; something else rarely afforded others. "So you know who I am, please.
"I am starting Columbia, yes, in September. For classes to help."
The rice, though? That is given some thought before, "Cook was sick two days ago. It is not his best and he was very sorry." She.. she didn't have that discussion with him, though? "It is good, yes." There is a pause before, "Your food? The waitress has a new nephew. She was happy, but sad. In China, sorry."
- Matthew Murdock has posed:
Columbia University, Matt's alma mater. The mention of it brings his smile back, "Great school." He digs the chopsticks around in the fried rice idly, recalling his first few weeks on campus and how exciting and overwhelming it all was. "I hope you manage to enjoy the time you spend there," he adds.
He finally takes another bite, quickly chewing and swallowing, "What will be your major?"
When she details the rice cook's health and the waitress's nephew, a brow raises as he glances in her direction. He's beginning to understand how Foggy and Karen feel around him. "Mine is great as always." He looks down and considers the waitress, "I'm sorry to hear about the waitress, though. It must be hard to be away from family. Especially young ones."
- Ruth Aldine has posed:
"It is scary, sorry. All new. Noisy." Ruth considers a moment before she nods at some unspoken words before she begins again, "Criminal justice. Biology. Law, yes. please. To learn why and how."
Canting her head, the younger woman can //see// some flickers of those thoughts of his, the surface bits as her words bring the memories of a younger Matt Murdock. Licking her spoon, she sets it back into her pocket and closes her rice box, saving the rest for later.
"She enjoys your visit, yes. Sorry. Thinks you are handsome." There's that ghost of a smile again, telling tales!
"Now, I am starting Monday, please, yes? Food is good, yes. Even if kidding," which she'll give him. "There is man who is coming to ask you for help," though now, she's shaking her head, her brows creasing under that bit of fabric that obscures her eyes. "Be careful, please, yes. Sorry."
- Matthew Murdock has posed:
Criminal justice, biology, *and* law. "That's an impressive and very demanding schedule," he says, stating the obvious. But he has a feeling she won't have many problems dealing with the course load. Although her mention of the school being noisy does hint at the difficulties she'll face. He understands all too well. "If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know, okay?"
Her mention of him being handsome draws a soft chuckle from the lawyer. "That's incredibly kind of you, thank you." The temperature in his cheeks elevates slightly at the compliment, but her mention at someone coming to ask for his help distracts him. His smile fades and he regards her for a moment. He senses her shift in tone. "I will, thank you." The warning has him curious. The temptation to ask her for more information nearly brings him to do so, but instead he decides to see when the time comes. It will help him better understand her gift. "If this man is on his way here, it might be best if you leave. I don't want you to be in any danger."
- Ruth Aldine has posed:
"Yes, yes I will. You will see me, thank you." Of course he will! Ruthie can't help that cracked smile; he'll understand, one day.
Though now she rises from her seat, her head quirking as she listens to distant voices, or perhaps seeing that distant future. "I will get help, yes," she whispers softly. "He is coming, sorry." Ruth's tones underscore that she's not leaving because she //wants// to, or that it's because of any danger. It's to get help. "Police, yes." Though the one that she needs to get is a little more distant that some of the closer ones. "Be careful, sorry yes. Please. I will be back."
She leaves her water glass behind, untouched, as well as her little box of fried rice. She did promise she will return..
