A Sinister Plot: Interlude: The Returned
Date of Scene: 25 May 2020
Location: Medical Lab
Synopsis: Armed with new information, the X-Men make more plans.
Cast of Characters: Emma Frost, Alex Summers, James Proudstar, Scott Summers, Jean Grey, Illyana Rasputina, Julio Richter

Emma Frost has posed:
Julian still lies sleeping fitfully in the medical lab, but with the news that Scott and Jean apparently may have clones running around, and the discomfort some of the others have, unsure if the Scott and Jean that they are dealing with are the right ones or not, there is a small conclave in the Medical Bay, to put this issue to rest, at least until Julian is able to fill them in on what he knows of Sinister's location, perhaps, and what has happened to the missing.

Alex Summers has posed:
Alex is leaning near the wall near Julians' bed, arms folded across his chest as he studies Scott and Jean, then shrugs. "Look..." he says, suddenly. "Scott is Scott. It's easy. He remembers stuff we did when we were younger that I'll remember too...Sinister can't copy memories like that, right? So he just needs to tell me something only he and I would remember." Unless Alex is a pod person too. In which case, you're all screwed, but then again, he only RECENTLY showed up with powers fully created....

    Duh duh duuuuuh....

James Proudstar has posed:
Jean Grey has already plucked most of the information from Jimmy's mind, or at least the gist of it, but nevertheless, for the sake of others present, the big Apache is giving the rundown of the information they found at Dani's kidnap site, or at least the information that they initially withheld, and which led to the decision to hide out in a whole other dimension while trying to figure out what was going on. He's seated, at least, and seems...mostly calm. Maybe still a -touch- on the wary side but much of it has faded.

"So Scott and Jean's scent was all over Dani's campsite, appeared and disappeared like the others we found at Berto's ambush site, and Illyana cast a spell that told her that the last things Dani felt before getting grabbed was fear and betrayal." Jimmy shrugs, "So we figured the best play was to stay away and try to get more information, because if someone could get to Jean and mess with her head, they could get pretty much anyone here at the Mansion."

Jimmy looks to Alex when he makes his suggestion, but is silent on his opinion of it. Mostly because he's not as well-read on Sinister as the senior X-folks, having only encountered him personally once, just a few weeks ago.

Scott Summers has posed:
"No, he is a telepath and he might be able to implant memories," offers Scott. He didn't complain about the idea of some genetic testing. Although without Hank around they need to send to readings all the way to Muir Island. It takes a while.

He is annoyed, but accepts the necessity.

"On the positive side, the Shi'ar sensors did managed a partial tracking of the teleport energy signature Sinister used to send Julian back," he doesn't want to speculate why he did send Julian back. It is 99% sure a trap. And one they need to walk in.

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean looks over at James and the others, nodding at that, "Smart move, James. You all did the right thing." She hmms, though she doesn't exactly say the obvious...

Namely that, if she //were// a traitor, she would have gotten them already. Why bother being subtle at that point.

However, she doesn't mention that out loud, considering how high tensions are and how angry she is at what Sinister did. She does, however, give Scott a bit of a wry look, "Knowing there's a trap is the first step in evading it." Currently, she's focusing most of her mental energy on keeping Julian from feeling the pain, her own psychic powers working in conjunction with more mundane medicines in that regard.

Illyana Rasputina has posed:
In this conclave, Illyana Rasputina may be the odd person out. For one, her chilly silence doesn't speak to a very good bedside manner, unless someone needs a surgeon who won't shudder about putting an arrow through the opposite side of the wound or cutting someone entrails open to remove an alien, additional organ, or biochip that Sinister might have left behind. Unfortunately for the telepaths, her usually formidable shielding is forcibly a locked barrier concealing what no doubt might be particularly morbid thoughts. Maybe in doubt who would be had, under the circumstances. The teenaged demon queen beholding one of her cohort in such a vile situation surely isn't thinking happy outcomes, least of all after reading any reports about inflicted cauterization and healing rates.
She stands beside Jimmy, arms crossed over her chest, taking in the state of damage. Or the conversation. Her shuttered expression doesn't change. "We are dealing with teleportation technology. I suspect this last burst signal was traced to a secondary side." If she is wary, welcome to the party. Nothing new there than any other day of her life, Little Miss Paranoid. "We can scry on the other side without stepping through," she adds, blunt as a hammer to the top of a bovine skull.

Julio Richter has posed:
Julio has been restlessly haunting the lower levels for days, and since he was going to be around anyway, he showed up easily a half-hour early for the meeting. He's sitting on one of the empty cots near Julian's, back propped up against the wall, an open textbook on his thighs being dutifully ignored. He's wearing a jacket over a standard training uniform, which he has taken to as his go-to outfit for anything related to the crisis. He hasn't gotten to the point where he feels comfortable with just how tightly it fits, but it still seems better than gym shorts if he wants to be taken seriously.

He listens to the exchange between Alex, Jimmy, Scott, and Jean with a suspicious expression. "If he can make these perfect duplicates with full memories and everything, why didn't he just use them to replace the people he took? If what you're saying is right, we would have never known," he asks. "Either he wanted us chasing after him, or there is some kind of tell."

Scott Summers has posed:
"I don't think it is a perfect duplicate, clones often have strange genetic flaws, at least if speed-grown. Dr. McCoy can give you the details when he is back. I admit I got lost halfway his explanation," offers Scott, pacing around the room.

"The area of origin is fairly large, I want Cerebro swaps of the area. Not just for our people, but also for known mutant signatures. Like those of the Marauders," because maybe the Marauders leave whatever area Sinister has shielded. Hey, maybe they go out for drinks, or groceries. Maybe.

"And since Mr. Richter has decided he is part of this operation," adds Scott with an amused glance to the younger man. "I am going to break protocol and invite him to use his abilities. It is unlikely Sinister knows about him, since he just joined the school. And even more unlikely he knows Richter can sense underground constructions."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean pauses, then concentrates a moment while the others are talking. She would normally seek out consent for this, but time is of the essence... and she's pretty sure Julian would agree in any event.

She dives into Julian's memories, seeking out information about what he might know. About Sinister. About the other captives. What plans might be brewing by this madman...

To say she looks troubled is an understatement, but she takes a deep breath because... well, someone has to do it.

Alex Summers has posed:
Alex rubs his face, looking very tired for a moment. "Shit. So we can't even be sure what he remembers is what he remembers or something?" It's definitely contribuing to paranoia, this situation. "...okay. Well. I'm gonna assume we're all who we're supposed to be, because otherwise that way lies madness. So we need to see if he can tell us or show Jean or something, anything, about where the others are. Or how we can get to them. If they're using a teleportation thing, maybe we can find someone who can teleport us to him."

James Proudstar has posed:
Jimmy glances between the various parties, grinning slightly at Scott's comment to Julio, but it fades back to a thoughtful expression, "Maybe he either thinks there's no way we'll find 'em until he's done. Or he just doesn't care." As noted, he's hardly a Sinister expert, but he's gleaned enough to realize the guy is powerful and resourceful on a level few of the X-Men's traditional foes reach.

"You all right, Jean?" Jimmy glances towards the redhead, picking up on her discomfort, which is a point in her favor as far as being the genuine article.

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean murmurs, softly, "No... I'm pretty far from okay, James." She's concentrating, and murmurs, "It looks like... he's torturing Julian, the others... trying to get secondary mutations to manifest?" She frowns darkly, "He's using Magistrate tech to keep the captives from using powers. He's..."

She pauses, then shakes her head, as some things are best left unsaid, "Julian killed a clone of Scott. And Jea... my clone." She stops, growing pale as she shudders, "She... went through and destroyed Roberto's memories. One by one. And she... loved it."

A pause, and then she says, "She tortured Gabby until she passed out, she..." The railing of the medical bed that Julian is on suddenly twists, the metal grinding as someone is agitated enough that her telekinesis is expressing itself in a rather unsubtle manner. Then Jean opens her eyes and looks at the others, a cold, hard determination there as she states, simply.

"He has to be stopped. Permanently."

Illyana Rasputina has posed:
"He was tortured. Even I see his anger," the Russian answers that question. She doesn't offer more, putting her hand against the wall and leaning in rather unbothered. Midnight wrapped in the daytime gold, that's Illyana. She gives Alex an odd look. "Do you want to see Fomalhaut b's Dagon? Maybe Hypatia around Iota Draconis?" Dead serious, those aren't random Greek or German words. "Transporting you is what I do."

Julio Richter has posed:
Julio drops his gaze to the textbook, looking a touch guilty, when he's called out for essentially stowing away down here. Then, the book slides away and his jaw goes slack at Scott's invitation to action. In a moment, his wallflower guardedness evaporates, giving way to grave determination. He shuts his mouth, pushes himself away from the wall, and gets to his feet. "Uh... yes. Absolutamente," he answers Scott. He glances over to the bed where Julian is resting and affirms solidly, "Tell me where I can help and I'm there."

He turns to look at Jean with a flat expression as she reports what she has gleaned from the unconscious boy's memories. He hadn't been imagining something that bad -- or at least, he hadn't wanted to. But at least it sounds like he'll have a chance to strike back. If there's a roof over these torturers, he would consider it quite an honor to be asked to drop it on them.

Scott Summers has posed:
"I need two X-Men to go hunting with Richter. Take mini-cerebros, image inducers and stay in constant communication with the person on monitor duty. James, Illyana. I will send Rogue to rotate with you," commands Scott. "It is fairly large area, but we can find plans of the buildings in the towns and villages so we can know if underground constructions are legitimate or not." That will be Kitty's homework for the weekend.

Julio Richter has posed:
"Believe me, the last thing I'm going to do is take any chances I don't have to," Ric assures Scott. "We don't have to go over it inch by inch, just drop me in a few places. Until we start, I'll practice listening over the largest areas I can."

Illyana Rasputina has posed:
"I will. I can transport them in and out, or defend him," says lllyana dryly, nodding to Julio. "It would be good to give you cover. Practice like we did in the dungeon. I can bring you a potion."

James Proudstar has posed:
In a weird sort of way Scott sending them away from the Mansion actually builds a little more cred towards his identity. "All right. We might grab a couple others, just in case we bump into someone that doesn't like us looking, but Rogue and I are a lotta good cover either way, and Illyana can have us out of trouble in a flash." Though none of those three are particularly inclined towards running from trouble, are they?
