SHIELD Came From Outer Space
Date of Scene: 26 June 2024
Location: Operations: Triskelion
Synopsis: Introductions are made with Agent Russo and Captain Britain.
Cast of Characters: Natasha Romanoff, Brian Braddock, Camille Russo

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Currently there are various spread out pamphlets throughout the desk, showcasing various organizations that operated off-planet of Earth. Natasha herself looks rather passive at them while some junior agents file in. "This will be a quick briefing on some of the.. More active galactic empires that have interactions with Earth. Much of this information is considered from.. Official sources." By which she meant press releases, ergo sheer bunk.
"So take them with that bias in mind." Much like reading something in the Daily Bugle about that insipid Spider-Man.

Brian Braddock has posed:
STRIKE, or the Special Tactical Reserve for International Key Emergencies, was concerned with terrestrial matters. The Captain Britain Corps focused on omniversal issues. So extra-terrestrial matters were a blind spot for Brian Braddock, one that he sought to rectify, when he joined the junior agents for the briefing.

Today, he wore his uniform, so he was red, white, and blue, the colours of the United Kingdom, but his helmet was currently held under his arm, letting his hair flow free. Either the man had some special power negating the effects of helmet hair, hadn't put it on today, or spent some time in the men's room, fixing it. Only the security cameras could tell.

Setting his helmet down on a nearby counter, he moved to the desk, taking a copy, and began to read through it. As he was, the theme from Game of Thrones began to play, coming from one of his pockets. Reaching down with one hand, he pressed some button in the pocket, and the music stopped.

Camille Russo has posed:
Camille's got embroidery in her hands as she gives the pamphlets a look. "So nothing we can't learn from Wikipedia or a guided tour, basically," she replies, choosing instead to focus on the thread and cloth in her hands. She's got the folder open in front of her, and she's going to listen, but if they're just getting the promo tours she might as well get some work done.

"You want black on black for yours or dark red on black?" The question is aimed at Natasha, and Cam wiggles her thread at the woman as she asks. "It's going on the inside of your gear, so it really doesn't matter, but I like to personalize them a bit once I've gotten to know people some.

She eyes the newcomer with interest. That uniform is not for covert work at all. She wonders if there's a version that is, then considers Steve - no, not touching that subject right now - and gives the man a friendly smile. "Camille," she offers, opting for a wave. "You're the British captain-y gentleman liaising with us, yes?"

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanova would settle back over and give a light nod at the two, "Captain Braddock, do feel free to introduce yourself to Agent Russo and explain your responsibilities." She would go to fold her hands together then while waiting for the two to talk, moving to rearrange the pamphlets in front of her and listening while reviewing data.

Psychological notes on the various major courtly factions within the Shi'Ar royal houses, known deployed Accusers of the Kree Empire, Lantern Corps members known to be on patrol around Earth and surrounding sectors..

Brian Braddock has posed:
Brian would have offered a hand to shake, but since Camille waved to him, he returned the wave in kind, explaining deadpan, "that was my first choice for code names, but it didn't clear the patent office, so I went with the shorter Captain Britain instead. A pleasure to meet you Camille... Russo," adding the surname when Natasha chipped in with it.

"I don't actually hold a military commission, so it would be Mister Braddock, or if we want to stand on ceremony, the Lord Braddock of Maldon, but please, call me Brian. We're all friends here."

Camille Russo has posed:
"Normally I'd shake, but well. Hands're full," Cam replies with a grin. "Nice to meetcha, Brian. See you got plenty of that Captain-y sass. They just download that one to the personality profile? Captain Countryman, must be sassy." She's embroidering while she talks, eyes shifting from Nat to Brian to the door and back down, glancing over the other junior agents in the process but mostly leaving them to mill about. "So, this whole patriotic thing you got goin... you want those for the inside of your gear too, or you have something a little less likely to get you pantsed if you end up in a barracks?"

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Well, not necessarily friends, but Natasha isn't exactly friends with anyone now, is she? Well, maybe Barton but that could also be more tolerant. The two did work well together after all somehow. But Natasha was a creature of habit. And that habit was deeply ingrained cynicism. Her going to review her files and then speak up.

"The current reigning Empress of the Shi'Ar is Lilandra Neramani, whom is on reasonable terms with Earth. Unofficially, we are considered a protectorate of the Shi'Ar on an intergalactic scale."

Brian Braddock has posed:
"Upload," he corrected, "not that I needed it, being English, it's ingrained in my culture." He watched her embroidering, when other agents were taking note of the pamphlets, though in truth, they seemed to regard it with the same level of care that Romanoff had imparted it with.

The facial expression that Brian gave when Natasha declared that the Earth, and by extension, the United Kingdom, was a protectorate of the Shi'ar should have been captured on camera for all time. "So this is what it feels like to have the shoe on the other foot. If only we'd reached Peenemunde ahead of the Americans and the Soviets," he shook his head, "Britain could have had a Ministry of Space. But instead, Operation Paperclip and Osoaviakhim happened."

Well, he knows his history. Funny, he doesn't look like a scholar.

Camille Russo has posed:
"Mmmhm, you sure it ain't download, hon?" Camille's accent peeks out a touch where she's grinning over her needlework. "Just stamp different flag colors on y'all at the Cap-factory, make sure you got the right blend of patriotism and and historical know-how, maybe a dash of magic, download Sass dot mp3 to your vocal suite."

Her ankle hooks around the seat next to her, drawing it back from the table. "Have a seat, Lord Britain, you're addin a layer of nerves to the juniors and it's bad for the work I'm doin. Protection spells work better when the vibes are good, man."

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanova would go to fold her hands together, "And for that the American space and weapons research programs thanked you dearly." Oh, she knows all about Operation Paperclip. Later on in life she was part of 'repatriation' for it after all. Letting the two finish up their bantering and settle back.

"Essentially the other large galactic powers are not to interfere with our affairs, or it will annoy the Shi'Ar." In theory.

Brian Braddock has posed:
"? maybe," he admits, as he may had enough sass that the central database needed to download it from him, rather than upload it into him. Despite it looking to be made from cloth, kelvar, padding, and the like, Brian Braddock's costume was in fact magical, a battery that stored a kind of magical energy from Britain and its many domains, both current and former. It was the former that helped him when he had spent time attending Empire State University as an exchange student, with similar energies for his globetrotting across Australia, Africa, and even a little of South America, thanks to the Falkland Islands and Suriname.

Listening to Natasha's comment, he shot her a wry smile, "I'm sure the Soviet Union, and now Russian Federation, feel similarly." When she went back to the actual meeting content, "I'm sure that there is something to be said for all our martial prowess. Having Lords of Order like Doctor Fate, the Sorcerer Supreme, Mister Fantastic, multiple heralds of Galactus, a cadre of Kryptonians, a ridiculously healthy number of Green Lanterns given that there are only 7,200 of them spread across space, I would not envy someone who came to this world, looking for trouble."

Taking a seat, he apologized, "dreadfully sorry Agent Russo, 'twas not my intent."

Camille Russo has posed:
"Cam. Or Camille, if you prefer the formality. I don't much stand on it, but to each their own." She ties off a few knots across the square of cloth and sets it directly in the middle of the pamphlets. "I'm guessin the Asgardians and more local types fall under the Shi'Ar umbrella as well?" Her next piece of cloth is a dull orange, and the red of her embroidery floss makes it look like flames. Her nose wrinkles at the mention of Reed Richards. She's aware of him, mostly by his reputation. "An' you're fine, Brian. Your personal..." her brow wrinkles. "No, that's not quite right. Whatever's goin on with you an' that magic you've got, it's fine. They just get real nervous around Natasha and any of y'all super-types. Long as they get it outta their systems before they're on a mission with one of y'all it'll turn out okay."

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanova would nod, "Yet, but here we are, with all of the attacks going on. As you stated so indirectly, it's a rather big galaxy, and we're a small part of it and everyone else is rathe rspread out. And with the way jump-drives work, by the time someone can get here with anything of use, the crisis is over and we're all dead." SHe would stay in the normal Russian manner.

"So, we be ready as best we can. And that means knowing not only power players on the pan-galactic political state, but adversaries. The Kree and Shi'Ar loathe one another, but the Kree also loathe a great many other species, that loathe them back. If they were not spread into a great many wars of a genocidal nature, they would be an exponentially higher threat."

Brian Braddock has posed:
"Cam it is," though rightfully so, there were times where Brian would stand on ceremony, and times where he would slum it. This was the later. "The Nine Realms are fascinating, from a quantum perspective. Plus, I would kind of like to see Jormungandr, the serpent surrounding the Earth that is so large; it could grasp its own tail."

At Natasha's rather pessimistic outlook, Brian couldn't help but smirk, "how very Russian of you. If regret could be harvested, Russia would be the world's fruit basket."

Nodding his head at the more strategic information, "would you equate this more to the Pax Britannica era of our own world, or the Napoleonic era?"

Camille Russo has posed:
"Non, je ne regrette rien," Camille hums half under her breath as she listens and stitches. The pattern on this specific cloth takes the form of flames, but the strokes of it are made of flowers and tiny runes. "They're interestin stories, for sure," she agrees. "I've always been fond of the idea of livin in the roots of a big ol' tree." Her face does a complicated twist as she thinks back to the recent mission in New Orleans. "Maybe... maybe a little less after seein an old one pulled up by the roots."

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanova would muse, "I'd call it less of that as Pax Britannia implied a general standoff of the great powers with occasional skirmishing along the fringes of things for minor advantages. The great galactic empires all too often seem to go for total warfare. Not something any of us would like our planet to be a part of." And now to the briefing.
