Betsy plans with Lorna
Date of Scene: 12 June 2020
Location: Sion - Nightclub
Synopsis: Charity plans proceed
Cast of Characters: Betsy Braddock, Lorna Dane

Betsy Braddock has posed:
The workmen have all left for the day - the weekend, in fact. So it's only Betsy inside those mirrored doors of that Midtown building. She's sent a request for Lorna to come meet her, so she will stay here until she knows one way or the other.

She is perched on a stool at the bar, facing the door from behind the bar, with a laptop open, and paperwork spread out in front of her atop the black laquered bartop. Purple hair is in a thick braid falling down over one shoulder, resting against the simple black of her blouse that's tucked into dark jeans. Heels are hooked into the footrest of the stool, as she focuses on reading a truly boring, very long winded, piece of paperwork. All she needs is some rimless glasses, and she'd look like accountant Betsy!

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna had received Betsy's message to meet, and given that there was technically a no-solo command still out for the X-men and members of the school.. she cheated by asking Clarice to give her a teleport there. She stepped out of the purple rimmed portal and right into the entryway of the club in one smooth step.

Technically she wasn't alone at any point.

The green haired woman smiled faintly as she glanced around, not only with her eyes but also with her magnetic senses and made her way toward Betsy. She wore a simple pair of slacks and a dress-shirt, clearly she'd been busy earlier that day.. Otherwise Lorna tended to dress down if she could help it.

"I hope I didn't make you wait too long. I got caught up dealing with business regarding moving soil and what not."

Betsy Braddock has posed:
Betsy may have been flouting that rule. A lot. Though she always had someone come with her to the club, and then to go back to the mansion with her, when it's work time, she's pretty much alone. Though she's working, and inside, so she's got to be safe, right?

Violet eyes lift at the portal, the mental sense of another arriving. She smiles at the sight of Lorna, setting the papers aside, tidying them into a neat pile. "Not at all. I'm pouring over everything to make sure I've got everything in line." She slides off the stool, rising to her full height. "Care for a drink, before we get to business?"

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna approached the table where Betsy was working, her hands shoved into the pockets of her slacks and she glanced around once more before her gaze settled on the purple haired woman in front of her. "Just water is fine, I've got another meeting to go to after this." She smiled, "Who knew trying to rebuild a nation would be so time consuming?" She half joked, but only partly. After all.. she was still trying to balance her duties in Genosha with being an member of the X-men.

"Did you design everything here?"

Betsy Braddock has posed:
Betsy will laugh, amusement lightening her eyes. She will get a couple of bottles of water out of a fridge concealed beneath the bar. "I do not envy you the nation building. Business building is enough of a pain."

She will offer a bottle over to Lorna, before she lifts her gaze, looking over the club. There's a quiet little smile, a look of pride. "I did. All out of my head."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna murmured a thank-you as Betsy grabbed a bottle of water and handed it to her. She cracked it open, taking a sip and glancing around. "Looks nice. Better decorating job than I could do. It's definitely not my thing." She'd mostly let her dad do whatever he wanted in terms of decor in the royal Palace.. she hadn't argued much. Which is how she'd ended up with an oversized crystal chandelier for a few years..

She shook herself from the memory, and returned her focus to Betsy. "Businesses are tricky, not completely different from a nation.. I suppose.. in some ways at least."

Betsy Braddock has posed:
"I think balancing the economy is harder than a nightclub's books." Betsy says with warmth, cracking the top off of her bottle to sip at water. "You'll have to see the VIP lounge, when everything is all said and done."

The model takes a lean. "Speaking of all said and done. I want to have a charity event evening, to benefit the rebuilding of Genosha." That explains why Betsy invited Lorna here, at least.

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna shrugged nce, "I don't need to run the economy, that's why you have a minister of finance that's good at their job. Delegating jobs is the best thing for a country.. likewise a business. No one gets anything done if you try to micromanage: neither a country or a business.." She mused, and smiled as she sipped at her drink setting it down.

"I'm sure it'll be something to see when it's done." She added regarding the VIP area. Though as Betsy continued onward to speak of why she'd been invited, Lorna nodded once.

"That's very generous of you."

Betsy Braddock has posed:
"Which is why I did not climb ladders, or try to put in the plumbing." There's a grin, as Betsy looks over the first floor of the club again. "But it is coming together beautifully. Still have some barware to order, and interviews to conduct, but that's the job of the boss."

She looks at Lorna, violet eyes serious. "It's not generous. It's the least I can do. Boost the signal among people who ignore things, and make it obvious that Sion is a mutant friendly business. I'm trying to hire as many mutants and metas as I can."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna arched a brow upward, leaning back into her seat with a roll of her shoulders. "You mean you didn't try to levitate things with your brain like everyone else we know?" She teased, and then shrugged once in consideration as she glanced around the place again. As Betsy spoke of it being 'the least she could do', the Genoshan Queen tilted her head to the side.

"I won't refuse the donations, I'm not in a position to do so. But are you sure you want to do that so soon after opening up?"

Betsy Braddock has posed:
"Well, I may have kept an eye on some things, or steadied things when they were up on a ladder." Betsy says with a hint of mischief. "But I'm trying very hard to not use my powers. After all, I'm hiring the experts for the expertise."

She will just meet Lorna's gaze. "I thought about doing it opening night, but there's going to be madness. I want the charity event to run smooth, when everyone is settled into roles." She shrugs. "I can't say this place is mutant friendly, if I'm not willing to put my money where my mouth is."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna exhaled a breath of partial amusement and shrugged again as she sipped at her water. "If you say so." She murmured, and glanced upward again, as if looking for some sign that the experts did in fact do their jobs as expected.. and considering nothing was amiss at a glance.. it must be so.

"I appreciate the gesture all the same, and I'm sure the refugees will too. We're working on getting some means of farming up and running so people can have something fresh to eat rather than MRE's or other shipped in goods. It'll be a while, but the funds will help support that."

Betsy Braddock has posed:
Betsy laughs as Lorna glances upward. Indeed, everything appears to be finished and in a pristine state. There's another swallow of water, a glance towards the stairs. "I mean, if I can't try to help mutant refugees, what is the point of having socialite status at all?" That tone is self-mocking, as she leans back on both elbows against the bar. "I thought about trying to see if I could get some designers together, have a little fashion show in here in support of Genosha, as well. Wanted your input on all of this before I try to start organizing and making still /more/ lists, and planning invitations."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna blinked once, in consideration of all the plans that Betsy had to help support Genosha via various business ventures. She wasn't expecting it, not multiple fundraisers that is. She smiled and set the water bottle down on the table as she reached up to drag her hand through her hair.

"If you want to do all of that, and I'm more than happy to accept whatever it is you plan. It's not as if I've much time in terms of planning events to drum up support these days." She murmured, and a faint twist of her lips followed.

"I don't have a whole lot of input to offer, other than to offer my support and happily accept whatever you want to donate."

Betsy Braddock has posed:
There's a flash of a smile from the model. "Trust me, give the rich fashion freaks a reason to fight over something, and they'll empty their wallets. I'm going to see if I can enlist some of my pretty friends and maybe even sweet talk a designer or two to do something custom we can auction off."

"Well, I've been going to social events and charity things pretty much my whole life. Might as well turn all those hours of being bored into something useful."

"Well, I will ask you to approve the invitation and the press release I'll be doing. And I'll probably have to ask you to make at least a cameo that night. I'll get you some designer dress, so you can be your most stunning self."

There's a faint sigh. "Honestly? I thought others would be stepping up before now, and doing more. Sion was just a daydream, but if I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it right."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna shrugged once, "I'm new to all of it. My father didn't exactly open Genosha up to the international community, so I never really interacted with 'high society'-" She used her fingers to make air quotes, "Before Genosha fell. And before that I was a nobody. So." She heaved a sigh, "Deep end of the pool and all of that. I don't really know the ins and outs of who to invite or not." She looked sheepish there.

"And I can make an appearance at least, beyond that I can't make any promises. Again.. I never seem to have much time to myself." She bit back the urge to wrinkle her nose at that, and shifted in her seat to refold her legs in the opposite direction in a kind of fidgety motion.

"And a lot of people have donated. Many of whom I don't know to this day. We had several fundraisers I wasn't even aware of happen, but hey.. we could use it all."

Betsy Braddock has posed:
"Trust me, you're not missing much. Boring food, often the same boring people, boring conversations.." Betsy waves a hand as if to brush it all away. "Well, if you need someone to help you navigate high society gatherings, or plan something, you know where to find me." There's a flash of a smile at that. "And you need to find time for yourself. You'll run yourself right into burnout, and then what?" It's serious, but not stern.

There's a nod. "I would hope so."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna smiled lightly at that, "I'll take boring now and then after everything that's happened in the last few months." She joked but there was still pain in her eyes as she spoke. She grabbed the water bottle again, opening it up and taking another sip. She fell silent, considering.

"But yeah, that's something you only get out of reflection, isn't it?" She sighed and passed the bottle between her hands. "And I am taking time for myself.. sort of. The Professor makes me attend therapy these days. Where he pointedly makes sure I make time for myself.. So." She shrugged again. "I'm trying."

Betsy Braddock has posed:
"Trust me, I know all about things you see in hindsight." Betsy says, her own expression troubled. But then she will shake it away and offer Lorna a bright smile. "Things can only get better from here, right?"

"Well, when you want some truly posh time for yourself, let me know. I'll get us in at this super plush spa. You'll feel like a million bucks, after. My treat."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna wordlessly shrugged at Betsy's words regarding things being better from there. It felt too easy to jinx, and there was always some crisis or the alike to deal with out there. That was their world, the world of the X-men and allies. She smiled after a moment and nodded though at the offer for a girls day. "Sure, that sounds lovely.. I can work on my schedule to make sure that we get time for something like that."

Her cell phone chimed and she sighed, pulling it out of her pocket and glancing at it once before she put it back. "Might be a while though."

Betsy Braddock has posed:
Betsy will smile at the sigh, finishing her water. "More nation building business? Do you need an escort? I'm not exactly dressed professionally, but if you need me to get you somewhere, I will."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna shook her head as she sighed, "I've just got more paperwork they want me to deal with. Nothing major, but I'll be getting Clarice to port me over there. Technically I'm not breaking Scott's rules about going out on my own." She arched a brow at Betsy and her very much being alone in the rather large building.

"Try to stay safe regardless. Stryker and his Purifiers have been out and about in force again."

Betsy Braddock has posed:
Betsy will arch an eyebrow back. "Hey, someone comes here to drop me off and pick me up. Most of the day this place is crawling with other people. This is the first quiet I've had all day." There's a chuckle. "I'll be safe. Promise. I'll catch up with you soon, okay?"

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna nodded as she got up, "Uh huh. That doesn't mean they won't try something, just stay aware of your surroundings and everything. We don't need our people getting targeted by a bunch of religious zealots." She murmured, and made to go, taking out her phone and shooting her bodyguard, and friend, a text message to get a portal back to the island proper.
