The SHIELD Saturday Special
Date of Scene: 13 June 2020
Location: Food Court: Triskelion
Synopsis: Clint and Daisy are joined by Wanda for the chef's Saturday special at the SHIELD cafeteria.
Cast of Characters: Wanda Maximoff, Clint Barton, Daisy Johnson

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
SHIELD is not outright military, but they are close enough that a lot of the axioms about military life apply. One of those? The cafeteria. Mostly it has the appeal of military food. But there are two days in particular that are treats. Spaghetti Saturday, the head cook is of Italian descent and really does something special with both the marinara and meatballs.

The other special day? Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

So it is that Wanda Maximoff has heard enough about the spaghetti to suggest coming by to meet Clint for lunch. She brings a quinjet upstate, planning a trip up to Canada afterwards to meet with some of Alpha Flight. Her plane touches down and she strides off the plane, wearing civilian clothing. A dark skirt and boots, and a light blouse perfect for the warm summer day.

She strides into the facility, using her Avengers card to identify herself and gain visitor admittance. Wanda uses the card to send Clint a message.

> Just arrived. Heading for the food court.

Clint Barton has posed:
Yeah, SHIELD's spaghetti and meatballs were to die for, so much so Clint had spent a bit of extra time in the gym this morning to 'make room' for them. Not the calorie balance would be close, fortunately, a life of Avengering and training made it easy to keep his superhero body even if he did indulge in the odd carb load here and there.

Hey, when you don't have powers these things matter.

Clint's just stepping out of the gym, when his phone buzzes, he checks the text, smiles and fires one back.

> Meet you there. I'll ping Daisy.

He does just that next, sending off a new text.

> Hey Tremors, Wanda's here if you're still free for lunch.

They'd worked it out earlier, the three of them meeting for lunch since Wanda would be passing through.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Daisy is to military life like an ..., hacktivist is to playing by the rules. Hint: Not great! So it's without surprise that Daisy was all up and ready to take advantage of Spaghetti Saturday. It was one of those days that made it alllll worth it. Granted, it wasn't hard to please her. Win her by the stomach or so they say.

So when the invitation came up for her to join in for lunch she took it gladly. Is there anything better than eating Spaghetti at the court on saturdays? When there's company there is. She had done some work out during the morning, then following up on a few cases she has pending and around the time to go she has taken a shower, got onto some jeans and shirt (casual Saturday!) and started on her way out to meet.

And with only having to dodge Agent Thornton on her way out that undoubtedly wanted for her to check into some more bureaucracy before lunch she finds herself wandering down the hallways, shooting off a message.

> Not sure who that Tremors is, but Quake is ETA 2 minutes!

She arrives at the Court, glancing around in search for the usual suspects.

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda Maximoff's response to Clint is a smiley face emoji. Wanda never used to use emojis but since realizing their Avengers comms were capable of them, she's been exploring the range available. This one has a little Robin Hood hat on and is in the middle of a wink. "Need to see if JARVIS can make the hat purple," she comments to herself as she strides into the food court.

The aroma of the food precedes any actual meal, causing Wanda to pause and inhale a little more deeply. "Perhaps it will live up to the billing," she says to herself quietly in her softly accented English.

She turns to look about, lingering the entrance to the line to the buffet layout. When she sees Daisy arrive, Wanda's face lights up and she flashes the younger woman a smile and waves a greeting to her. When they are near enough to speak, Wanda says, "There you are, was hoping you'd be around. Finally ready to try this spaghetti," Wanda comments.

Clint Barton has posed:
Speaking of emojis, Wanda gets a thumbs up from Clint, even as he smiles at the robin hood hat smiley being sent his way. As for Daisy? She gets a one sticking out it's tongue at her. As the Tremors games continue.

A short time later Clint is strolling into the cafeteria dressed in a fresh set of SHIELD sweats, his security lanyard hanging from his neck. Spotting Wanda and Daisy, the archer waves, his long legs carrying him over to them.

"Hey, good to see you both," he says as he leans in to give Wanda a kiss on the cheek. "We ready to eat?"

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Fine! Emoji war?! While some have but recently adopted the emoji Daisy was born in it, molded by it! (Which probably means she is simply the young one here...!) She sends a reply with a trembling mountain and a red, angry face. But then again she is smirking when she sends those back. Though more and more she was getting certain on who had started this rumor about her nickname being Tremors..

And just in time to look up and face Wanda when she approaches, an instant warm smile on her features. "Hey, Wanda." she closes in to give the other woman a hug if she lets her and then adds, "You will love it. If you don't he takes on all challengers in the kitchen later on." then she leaning in to whisper. "Which mostly means he will put in an extra slice of dessert." a wink following it and then she looking up at Clint's approach.

"We sure are, how have you both been?"

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda Maximoff gladly gives a warm hug back to Daisy. "I like to meddle in the kitchen, but I can't claim to be particularly amazing. So I'm interested to see just what he does with it," Wanda says of the food after greeting Daisy.

Clint's arrival gets a smile that is also warm, but with a depth to it that is noticeable. A brief, tight hug, and a peck back to his cheek given he's at work. "Very ready. I brought a healthy appetite, if in an unhealthy plane. I think it's time it goes through an overhaul," she comments. "Or, whatever it is you call it." She's not exactly the best of mechanics, let alone for airplanes.

Wanda smiles to Daisy and starts to move towards the line, but will let the other two get their food first so she can see what they go for. "Doing well enough. No new crisis that I've heard of. And, one or two seem to have been dealt with," she says. "How about yourself, Daisy?"

Clint Barton has posed:
Yeah, there's no winning an emoji war with a hacker like Daisy. Clint fires back a white flag emoji surrendering the round to the younger agent? for now.

Joining the others, Wanda will find her hug returned in kind along with that little kiss on her cheek before he offers a smile to Daisy and leads the way to the line for the food. "You do alright," Clint says about Wanda's cooking. "When you don't feed it all to your brother and sister I mean," he says giving Wanda a narrowed eyed look, before breaking into a grin. "She gave away our gumbo to her sibs," he explains to Daisy. "Unforgivable really."

He grins to himself as he gets into line, letting Daisy fill Wanda in on the recent SHIELD happenings while he helps himself to a piece of garlic bread while he waits in line for the main course.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Daisy understands that completely, meddling but not being amazing. Or well, in her case being rather less than amazing. She nods sternly. "I have been trying to improve on that end but .., without much success so far. I can do a mean salad already though?" baby steps! But she then is grinning, moving to get in line. Her eyebrows shoot up amusedly at their exchange though. "Well, feeding family is important. And it will only leave you looking more forward to next time Wanda makes it."

And then the inevitable. "Though look at it this way, no need for so many hours in the gym." bit of a tease on her voice but then she is stocking up on the garlic bread, nodding towards Wanda. "These are great, you should get one at least." then a glance towards the menu. "I will be having some pasta carbonara today I think."

A moment is then taken for her to ponder on it's been going on. "Something out on Happy Harbor, but still waiting to hear from the headmistress. Do any of you know Dr. McIntyre?" she inquires, looking over each.

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda Maximoff holds up her hands in a partially comedic, 'what could I do' gesture. "I think it's your fault, the gumbo. Lorna stopped in unexpectedly, and the whole suite smelled like it from how long it had been cooking in the crockpot. What was I going to do, send my only sister away hungry?" Wanda protests in a voice that tries to gain sympathy.

Though she has a soft, playful smile on as she says it. After, her expression gets a little more serious. "Speaking of, she was able to recover the mutants who had been kidnapped," Wanda shares quietly. "It was Mister Sinister."

Wanda leaves it at that, not wanting to spoil the meal with too much of that talk. Plus she only knows generalities about it. "It smells good," she says of the garlic bread, changing topics and getting a slice for herself. She goes for the spaghetti itself, with lots of sauce and meatballs.

Clint Barton has posed:
"Salad huh?" Clint asks Daisy. "Getting into the real complicated stuff, huh?" he teases before nodding in agreement to both the critique of the garlic bread and the choice of the pasta carbonara. "She's not wrong on either count," he says to Wanda.

Turning back to Daisy he shakes his head, "McIntyre? No, haven't heard of her, what's her deal?"

As to the gumbo? "Well, okay but only because you like your family, like some sort of weirdo," Clint teases the Transian woman as he loads up his plate with pasta and thick meaty sauce. "And really, Sinister? What was Baddy McBaddy already taken? Jeeze, these villains and their names," Clint says with a shake of his head. "Glad the kids got back alright. We've had our share of superpowered shenanigans too, some old, supposedly dead Hydra guy is going around giving neo Nazis powers."

Daisy Johnson has posed:
The mention of Sinister makes Daisy turn her nose. Has she heard of the 'gentleman'? Most likely.. But the indication that the kidnapped mutants have been saved makes her smile. "It is good to know they have been saved." but she also lets the issue be. Maybe not all wounds had been healed just yet.

"Morrigan McIntyre. She's the school director of Happy Harbor." she explains quietly. "Think everyone is safe right now, but it's something to follow up on." yet at the mention of the power-stealing neo-nazis she simply frowns.

"Yea, someone trying to pass up as me was on the news a while back, due to that." A brief grumble. She clearly wasn't happy with how it had happened. But there was Italian food to be had so she was slowly getting appeased.

And thinking on happier thoughts she grins, looking at each and asks. "Still having problems with all those asgardians running around the mansion or has that slowed down? I hear they are opening an embassy soon." she sniffs, already able to smell her carbonara being prepared.

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda Maximoff lets out a wince at hearing about the happenings with Hydra. "That..." she says, trailing off and not finishing her thought. Which ran towards her father. Magneto, not the one who raised her. And how he would have wanted to respond to it.

Wanda looks over to Daisy. "Happy Harbor, that's the town on Staten Island?" she asks. Apparently she isn't up on their dealing with enhanced individuals. "I"m not familiar with her. But things have been a little more calm with Asgard. Which..." Wanda trails off. These dinner conversations are full of landmines when one wants to keep the conversation happy. So she doesn't mention Loki. "Which is a nice surprise," she finishes in different fashion than where her thoughts had really been going.

Wanda finishes filling up her plate and gets a drink. "I admit, their way of talking kind of grows on you. Being 'Lady Maximoff' and all," she says, flashing Daisy a grin. "Clint probably just gets called 'knave' though," she shares in a teasing stage whisper.

Clint Barton has posed:
Yep, so many landmines, but it came with the territory as a spy and a superhero. "Well let me know if this McIntyre person needs any help and we'll see what we can do," Clint offers as he finishes piling on spaghetti and goes to get his drink.

"Yeah, the fake-Quake thing was pretty weird," he nods. "Also weird but much happier news, apparently we had Cap's old girlfriend Peggy Carter in the basement since the 80's and she's up and about now, looking like she did, well," he gestures to a picture on the wall of Peggy Carter from around the time she retired as director in the 80's, looking not much older than Wanda or Clint. "So, nice to see the weird is skewing towards good as well."

There's a laugh about the Asgardians, "Yeah, verily, their way of speech be pleasing to mine ear," Clint says with an approximation of the archaic way Thor and his people talk. "Thankfully there has been a whole lot less stomping around from Steve's honour guard lately."

Daisy Johnson has posed:
With a nod Daisy finishes piling up on her carbonara too, picking up her tray to start wandering off to a table. "Yea, there's school there." and considering it's an avenger they are talking with she adds, "It's under SHIELD protection, it's where a lot of powered children are learning at." she explains, then adds in a lower tone. "I am a part-time teacher there too.. It's been..., interesting enough. But enjoying it more than I expected. Even if some of the kids call me Ms. Daisy." another small frown.

She sets the tray on the table and her grin widens at the mention of Peggy. "Yes, I have heard the rumors. Think it'd be too much to approach her an autograph book? I am glad she is around, I need to visit her." she sits down and then can't help herself. She laughs about the 'Lady Maximoff' and the 'knave' titles. "I can imagine. Had my slice of it when I listened to Thor speaking during the disco death ball mission a while back." then a pause. She corrects. "I mean, the attack against the shadow creature over Metropolis."

Clint Barton has posed:
Clint takes his drink and plate by the register paying for him and Wanda by swiping his ID, then he leads the way to grabbing a table.

"Didn't know SHIELD was that deeply involved," Clint admits of the school. "Though I guess it's not a total surprise given the number of agents on hand." He grins though about 'Ms Daisy', "And you complain about me calling you Tremors," he says shaking his head.

"Yeah, it's kinda neat having her back, I'm not a big SHIELD history fanboy like Coulson, but I've heard the stories," he says. "Anyhow, wonder if she and Cap have seen each other yet, must be strange for them each having thought the other was dead for a bit."

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda sets down her plate on the table, moving the tray over elsewhere to feel more like a regular meal than a cafeteria one. "Hmm, I had no idea. I suppose it might help the kids to fit in, having others around like them," she comments.

A napkin goes into her lap and then Wanda is cutting one of the large meatballs and giving it a try. Her expression says enough. "Talk... lived up to," she comments when she's able to speak politely again.

Wanda follows their gaze towards the portrait of Peggy Carter. "Just, hanging around in the basement," she says, obviously amused at not just how that could be the case at SHIELD, but how it doesn't really phase her that much either. "Yes, I suppose that's about as unusual of an 'ex' situation as you can get," she says of Cap and Peggy.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Now that the tray is set and the carbonara is ready it's time to turn to the attack. Which means a good devouring on the food on her plate. Because Saturday Special at the cantina is no joke! And got to take advantage of those budget adjustments every time she can. She mmms and closes her eyes briefly, appreciating the food before finally returning to their conversation.

"I complain about a many number of things, Tremors is just one more! And I am right.., awful name." a bit of a grump but then her focus goes to Wanda. "Unusual, well.." she begins about the Cap and Peggy situation. "In SHIELD the weird and unusual are starting to be referred to as casual friday. It's really been skyrocketting as of late." not that she appears to mind at all. Life of an Agent and all that!

"And .., yea. We are hoping it does help. There really isn't another initiative of the like so far." doesn't seem like she know about the Xs and their mutant school.

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda tries the food, getting a little bite of the spaghetti, making sure to get plenty of sauce on it. Then a nibble of garlic bread. "Mmm," she says with a nod of her head. "This is pretty good," Wanda says with emphasis of confirming what she'd heard. "Not quite what I expected at an organization like this. But then with Steve I always figure you're all eating those... what are they called? The meals sealed in the plastic that last forever, the one with the abbreviation?" she asks.

Her fork twirls in the spaghetti, gathering up strands of the pasta wrapped about the utensil. She watches as Clint checks his phone and then departs with a brief apology. "Ah, so much for having caught everyone at a slow moment," she says with a sigh, watching the archer depart with a lingering gaze and an openly fond smile.

The green eyes swing back to Daisy. "So how did you end up SHIELD, Daisy? Was this kind of career a lifelong goal of yours?" she asks.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"Do you mean .., field rations?" The look on Daisy's face is one that begins to recall what it was to eat those in the past. She makes a face, looks down at her carbonara and back to Wanda. "Why do you need to go and remind me of such terrible memories?" but she then smiles at Wanda, shaking her head a touch. "And I mean, we do a lot of ops, but we aren't solely military. Thankfully. Don't think I'd be able to handle it that way." the hacker says. "I am not really cut for the military lifestyle. Not 100% at least."

A glance is given over to the departing Clint, giving him a finger-wiggling of farewell. "I will take care of her. Must be punishment from the Gods for having brought up the Tremors code again." she winks at him teasingly.

The question about how she ended up here makes Daisy consider. "Well, it all started with a black bag being placed on my head." and then she laughs in that open manner of hers. "Not that I didn't deserve it.." she lowering her tone a bit for the next part. "I had been hacking into SHIELD in search for certain truths, when the offer then came to join I was ..., quite surprised." she looks around. "This was the last place I expected to end up in, but now here I am."

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda smiles as she sees the interaction between Daisy and Clint, having already found the younger woman to be a joy to be around. And she seems to bring out the bright side of Clint as well, which not everyone does in Wanda's experience.

The woman's fork pauses halfway to her lips as Daisy mentions the black bag. "Really?" she asks, confirming it isn't just a joke. Wanda listens as Daisy goes on and gives additional information, which results in a small grin from the Transian woman. "Ah, Daisy, so you got yourself into trouble with them? Well, I suppose if you successfully got through their security, you would probably be exactly the kind they might wish to recruit, once they were sure of your intentions."

She leans back in her chair, finally finishing the bite. "There have been a few Avengers who came in under less than ideal situations as well, yet proved their worth," she comments. A little motion of the fork towards herself. "Myself, and Pietro could be counted there I suppose. Not that we fought, but, still. We had our reputation from our father to contend with."

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"Oh, my intentions weren't exactly honorable.." Daisy murmurs, playing with her fork alongside the carbonara for a few moments, nose turning to the side. "But it's amazing how people can change when someone believes in you, isn't it?" the grin returning to her expression and she taking another bite into her mouth. "Now they are my family." the one she never had, but that'd be a story for another occasion.

"And let me tell you, it's been a ride. Though yea, SHIELD. Never a normal day." And not that she seems to mind at all. "Must be similar out there with the Avengers, with all the threats you guys face."

She then listens to Wanda's own introduction to the Avengers along with her brother. "How did you two come to join with the Avengers anyway? Was it during the Battle of New York?" Daisy hadn't really heard the story yet, but then asks further. "But more importantly, what made you stay with them?"

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda continues to eat slowly. She eats much like she talks, taking her time and giving each bite its own moment before moving on, the same as she does with her slow, deliberate way of speaking. "Well, we had found out about how are father was, and had been with him for a time. Through some of those events that gained his reputation. And, deservedly," Wanda says slowly. The regret can be heard in her voice even as she tells the tale.

"And it took us awhile, to get past that... that rush of having a family again. But in the end we saw past what we'd been doing. Knew it wasn't right. And so we left. We knew we needed guidance and direction. And, well you really can't find someone better than Steve Rogers to provide that? Can you?" Wanda tells Daisy.

She pauses to take a long sip from her drink. "They were willing to look beyond our past. The things we had helped our father with," she says slowly. Wanda gestures with a hand and gives a small shrug of her shoulders. "So it wasn't a crisis that brought us to them. Or, only one of our own making."

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Daisy listens attentively, a pause given from eating so her attention is fully on the green-eyed one, arms resting on the table. The turn on her expression to something more reserved shows she has heard the stories, and most likely seen them too, where Wanda's father is related. Not an easy legacy to bear.

"It's always very hard to let go of family.." For some reason she appearing to have gone through a similar experience, perhaps it being the slight bright on her eyes that's telling. But then her smile returns when Steve is mentioned. "Who can resist a gentleman like Steve, mmm?" the smile broadening. "It's one of those small blessings of working on SHIELD, sometimes I cross paths with him around the trisk."

Yet she is all too understanding about 'looking beyond the past'. "SHIELD did the same with me, looking beyond what I had done. It seems to have worked out." She says, "You are a hero and you even got your own line of toys!" a laugh following it as she tries to bring some levity to their tales by mentioning the infamous Avengers miniature toys.

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda Maximoff covers her face partially in embarrassment, though laughing at the mention of the line of toys. "If the proceeds were going to anything other than charity!" she says with a shake of her head. "Well, it has worked out. And... who knows what would have happened, if I'd still been on Genosha at the time," Wanda says slowly. "Pietro and I both."

Her eyes drift away, the mention of the island bringing down the mood slightly, but Wanda tries to push past it, giving Daisy a soft smile as she looks back, and then focusing on her food. Getting another bite of garlic bread.

"Well, you both were certainly right about the cafeteria here. I don't make it here very often, but I will have to see if I can't make sure which day of the week it is from now on," she says with a appreciative nod towards the food.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"Look at it on the bright side, at least your toy didn't have to go back to production because of all the pointy bits!" Unlike a certain Archer's had to! But the man isn't here to defend himself so Daisy leaves it just at that, a small jest, followed by a wink. At least until the island is mentioned, it's disappearance.. It makes Daisy press her lips to a line. "We can't really change the past, can we? Just hope that it helps us in shaping a better future for us and those around us." her tone with some comforting notes to it.

She looks around the room again, then back to Wanda, "We only know the best spots to eat at. I will let the cook know you enjoyed it but next time..." and she points her fork in Wanda's direction. " ... you will be the one choosing where we go eat, mmm?"

And so does the conversation continue throughout their lunch together ...
