Avenue of Tomorrow Forever
Date of Scene: 01 March 2020
Location: Midtown - New Troy
Synopsis: Carson and Karen chit-chat one night in Metropolis. Obviously the start to a friendship filled with high fives. Or not.
Cast of Characters: Carson Deschain, Karen Starr

Carson Deschain has posed:
Evening in Metropolis, after Luthor's to do about bidding for Presidency. Using the Genosha tragedies as his springboard - the compassion stance. The van was parked out on the north side of town and Carson, dressed up in his third-string mil-surplus outfit, was seated on Planet Herowood.

Irritated was a good word for it. So a few would be muggers were outside couple of the MPD precinct buildings with SD cards bearing amateur Go-Pro footage of their actions and subsequent takedowns.

It felt better. He couldn't get to Luthor for using that to his own ends, so now he was cooling off, out of sight, with a little blue-tooth speaker connected to an MP3 player... Playing Peter Gabriel covering The Beatles.

Karen Starr has posed:
Power Girl has been out of the city, for the day. Part of it, she'd been in New York. The rest, she'd spent outside of the atmosphere, doing only she knows what. By the time she returns, Luthor's bid for president has dropped into the running, and she only catches wind of it as it plays out on a television near a certain someone's van. When the newscast announces it again- on some degree of repeat- there is a loud whoosh, as if a small jet has just passed by the van, rocking it somewhat.

It is in that moment that Power Girl is standing there next to the window, watching the news announce Luthor's presidency.

    "Oh, -wonderful.-"

Carson Deschain has posed:
Looking down at that rush of air from his place on top of the restaurant, Carson blinks behind his goggles. "Oh... Oh hey." She's looking through the window... Did he leave the TV on? What... "Better go check that out."

Still charged, dressed as 'Kinetic', the man grabs his stuff, jamming it into a utility pouch he has hooked onto his belt and stamps down hard - a little extra to what he still has stored. He doesn't fly, he doesn't know how to yet. If he ever will, but much of his stored energy is pumped into the leap, carrying him over and down to the cement where he lands with a light pattering sound as the force of his impact is soaked up into his very cells.

"Wow! I... Hi!" lifting a hand in a weak wave.

Karen Starr has posed:
Having to watch the news at its own pace is always annoying. By the time Carson gets there, Power Girl has folded her arms and is staring, disapprovingly, at the late-breaking story while the opinions of the newscasters- mostly positive they may be- are laid out. For some reason, this blonde isn't buying it.

Her attention doesn't shift to Kinetic, but she recognizes the voice. "Nope." she responds, swiftly, and succinctly. That's... Direct.

Carson Deschain has posed:
"Nope? I. What?" hand dropping to his side, head tilting to one side. "I don't understand? Nope what?" hooking his thumbs into his belt, looking over her shoulder rather than at her, to see what she's looking at. The newscast.

"I was there, I could try to help give the gist of it?" shifting his weight and watching the newscast still, "Or. Well." it's sticking in his craw, curious, "But uh... Nope what?"

Karen Starr has posed:
Bringing one hand up to rest her face in it for a moment, Karen offers an exasperated sigh. "Nope to whatever you were going to ask had I not said Nope." she responds, pinching at the bridge of her nose. "I already get the gist of -this-." she gestures, lightly, at the screen.

"But I don't take too well to amorous declarations over social media." One might get the sense that social media has little to do with it. "You did okay in Genosha."

Carson Deschain has posed:
A blink behind his goggles, "OH! That! I." hand going to be back of his neck, "I thought that'd be funny... s'all. That punch. It took hours to work off that. I just wanted to say thanks for the help and all." looking down at the ground for a moment, Carson takes a moment to gather his thoughts.

"I don't know what you thought I was gonna ask. I was just going to say 'Hi, I didn't expect to bump into you again.' I mean. You're Power Girl. I was surprised to see you is all." the mask shifting as he frowns beneath it.

Karen Starr has posed:
"Uh-huh." Her response is intense in its disbelief. There's even a small eyeroll. "I'm -sure- that's all it was. Watching the story, the piece finally comes to an end and Power Girl turns, re-folding her arms and looking headlong at Kinetic now.

"Same thing everyone else asks." Placing her hands on her hips, then, she rocks her head to one side. "I didn't expect to bump into you, either. You got here from Genosha pretty quickly. The Lantern give you a ride?"

Carson Deschain has posed:
Doing his level best to keep his eye up, respectful, "No. I took a few jumps... Like I said you kinda super-charged me, Ma'am." thumbs back to being hooked in his belt. "Once I hit Madagascar I got on a charter and then I got home." Carson keeps his eyes on hers.

"And I'm not trying to be dense, or a jackass. I don't know what you were Nope-ing to. You don't have to say if it makes you this annoyed." shrugging slightly, "And I did terrible in Genosha. I got blasted by a null ray and had to throw myself into walls to get up enough charge to try and move rocks until you got me back up to snuff. So that was all you, I take no credit."

Karen Starr has posed:
Karen nods along with the man's tale of how he came to be in the US. "Oh, didn't realize you'd have the money for a charter, but good on you, I suppose." She notes the fact that he's keeping his eyes on hers- something she appreciates, but only so much.

"I know you're not trying to be dense. I just don't think there's a better way to explain it, and I don't think I'm going to try. You didn't -die.- That's what's important. That's better than most would've done, and you didn't just run, you stayed to help. That's pretty good."

Carson Deschain has posed:
"Not something I can do again any time soon, believe me. I should've hitched a ride with the Lantern. But I didn't really think. Was still kinda shaken up." a harder tone cutting into his voice, "And now that bastard is capitalizing on the tragedy. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a lab full of mutants. Caged up like labrats."

The cheeks of the mask puff out as he lets out a breath, "I just wanted to do what was moral. I was born with able to do what I did. If I'd run I'd be just as bad as the people who sent the Sentinels." Carson looks down, at the ground, a mnemonic device by the way his head moves - visualizing in the asphalt.

"I suppose you expected me to hit on you, because you're you." head back up, studying her face, expression. "I'm not going to play dumb, you're gorgeous, yes, but look; I just wanted to say thank you for helping out other mutants like me. I shouldn't have posted it in the wording that I did. I didn't think you'd even see it. Shouting into the void, as they say."

Karen Starr has posed:
Karen exhales slowly, somewhere between reluctant silence and a sigh. "Sorry to hear that. You'll have plenty of opportunity here in Metropolis, I'm sure. Just keep working at it and doing what you're doing." At his comment regarding Luthor, Karen frowns. "Stay away from it. Vote if they'll let you." That's all she says on the matter.

"You've got a good head on your shoulders. Don't get turned around." Then, silence. "Listen, all is forgiven. It was cringy, and dumb, but I'm not about to punish you for it. I'm sure you'll do enough of that yourself. Don't need to thakn me for doing what I do. That's not why I do it." She looks up, then, and starts lifting off of the ground.

    "Time's up, though. Gotta go."

Carson Deschain has posed:
"Right. Maybe I'll see you around again, Ma'am. Thanks for giving me a few moments." though despite the pleasant words there's the undertone that he expects they won't. "If we don't. It was good to actually meet and talk with you, and thank's for not talking down to me, despite the 'go get 'em tiger' bit." a bit of a lopsided grin shifting the patterns of the mask.

Carson turns and starts away, to give the appearance that the van wasn't his. He'll have to circle back closer to dawn. Get back to New York before he gets another dumb idea.
