Just a Chat
Date of Scene: 21 June 2020
Location: The Robin's Roost - Chelsea
Synopsis: It was supposed to be showing off a hero base, but instead, there's talk of fantastically bad ideas, like Tim trying to date Rose and Conner wanting to slow that trainwreck in progress.
Cast of Characters: Tim Drake, Conner Kent

Tim Drake has posed:
Tim is working on his motorcycle in the lowest level of the Roost, by that, mostly he's working with the new computer system he's installing. He had shot an open ended 'feel free to come by' text to Conner. He's laying under the bike, with cables plugged into his laptop nearby, which has a few progress bars displayed on it in various levels of progress. He's in cargo shorts, black sneakers, and a black and red colorblocked tank top.

Conner Kent has posed:
Conner knows better than coming to Gotham without a good reason. Even if he has not seen Batman in over a year. So casual visits to Tim's den had yet to happen. Actually, they have yet to happen, since he came with a purpose today. A rather weird one.

Jeans and a black t-shirt. No big red S for Gotham. He even took the Hyperloop to have more time to think. Not that the extra thinking time has given him any great idea or insight. "Hey Tim, what are you up to down there?" He says as greeting.

Tim Drake has posed:
"Some upgrades to my bike," Tim peers up, sliding out from under the motorcycle and getting to his feet. He's not surprised at Conner's arrival, he actually looks pretty pleased to see him. "Nothing important. So, uh... what do you think of the place?" He gestures around. "I can show you around." He is blissfully unaware that Conner is aware of... yesterday. Ahem.

Conner Kent has posed:
"This place seems huge," comments Conner, "large enough for a for a small army. Or bat-army. Are you the only one using it?" He waits for Tim to be back from under the bike and then nods. "Sure, show me. Although I actually came to talk to you about something else. See, Rose messaged me at four in the morning. She wanted to tell me about the party last night. She had never done something like that and I am not sure what she really wanted." He sighs, "pretty sure she is not the kind to have asked for permission to go to a date to anyone in her whole life. But this time she almost sounded as if she was."

Tim Drake has posed:
"Yeah, just me here, but maybe we'll repurpose it for all of us--" Tim begins to respond and then. Oh.

Yeahhhh. That. Tim rubs the back of his neck sheepishly. "Uh, yeah. I probably... should have texted you or something about that. So. Uh. I asked Rose out?" That's belated. "Wait, she asked you about it?" There's a 'better Conner than Cassie' floating through his head at that, but still. "I mean. Yeah. The party. Oof." He leans on the bike's seat and looks a bit distracted.

Conner Kent has posed:
Conner handwaves it. "You don't need to tell me who are you dating, man," replies the taller boy. "Neither does she, and it is really weird she did. She and I have been... ah, closer than we should. Because she is the way she is. Complicated."

"Apparently she also tossed your little brother into the pool," adds Conner. "I got the impression he deserved it. Not that I even know you had a younger brother," he snickers.

Tim Drake has posed:
Tim snorts. "I mean, if you knew him, you'd understand why I don't claim him. Also... he's kind of new." He grimaces. "It's complicated. Actually, pretty much my entire family falls under that whole 'complicated' banner. But yeah. Damian was being an ass." He sighs. "But yeah. I know I don't have to tell you, but-- we're friends, and this may complicate things with the group, and I probably should have said something before swallowing my foot to the knee."

Conner Kent has posed:
Everything about Rose is complicated. And perhaps Conner should have also asked Tim for advice. But now he knows Tim is attracted to the white-haired hot-mess of a girl, maybe not. "We are just a group of friends nowadays," points out Conner. "When was the last time we went together to fight criminals? I can't remember. Oh... Cassie is going to kill you. Well, not kill-kill. But you know what I mean."

Tim Drake has posed:
"Yeah. Cassie is going to string me up with Wonder Woman's lasso, which she will borrow specifically for this purpose, and interrogate me until I'm blue in the face." Tim sighs again. "I know. And that... just a group of friends thing, that's actually kind of why I texted you to come over. I think we //should// be more than that, go back to fighting criminals. I know everything's been distracting us, but we could do good here." He waves around the lower floor of the Roost. "'s why I put this together. I just hadn't really.. had the time or felt up to showing it off."

Conner Kent has posed:
Ah, that explains the superbase feel. It is bigger than the cave and more high-tech than the mountain refuge. But it is in Gotham. Yuck.

Then again Tim and Rose are in Gotham, and the rest can fly or run super-fast. Well, those of the gang he has seen in the last year.

"I am not that distracted. College is not too bad. Well, the studies, I mean," he will have to reduce his party time, but to be honest he prefers to hang out with his old friends. And punching super-villains beats frat parties. "Count me in."

"Now, back to Rose... man, I didn't even know you were into her."

Tim Drake has posed:
"I mean, you weren't supposed to. No one was, really." Tim shrugs, looking a bit uncomfortable. "I mean... I actually didn't even plan to ask her out. Just... Dick and Steph were gunning for it hard. I guess I wasn't as good at hiding it as I thought I was. And..." He laughs slightly, mostly at himself. "And then I stepped in it, I guess. I don't regret it, exactly. But... she's Rose. I can never really tell with her what she's thinking. And yeah, Cassie is gonna kill me, and I figured you and Bart would never let me hear the end of it-- all of that assuming Rose herself didn't toss me off a building for even being dumb enough to ask." He bends over to scoop up his laptop as it finishes installing the new programs. "So, I mean... yeah, wasn't trying to let anyone know."

Conner Kent has posed:
"Rose won't defenestrate you," Conner is pretty sure of that, at least she won't in the physical sense. "But I don't think she can conceive a normal relationship either. I mean..." he is not sure how to explain it. "Tim, you are smarter than me, so tell me if this has a name. You know Rose has a lot of issues. She fights, and kills people, for money. She is mercurial, unpredictable, and sometimes full of anger."

Tim Drake has posed:
"She's a ten on both the hot and dangerous sides of the hot-dangerous scale. Yes. I'm painfully aware." Tim winces. "Let's add to this the fact that her dad is also a psychopath-- so, yeah, that's //a thing//. Believe me, Conner, I've gone over all the reasons that dating Rose is a horribly bad idea that's likely to end in my dismemberment."

Conner Kent has posed:
"It is not that," Conner shakes his head, then leans back against a wall, trying to think. "I don't think there is going to be any kind of physical violence. And if all you want is sleep with her because she is really hot, then I think none of you will be hurt. At most it will just be... awkward for you, I think." And he thinks so because it is obviously awkward for him NOW. And usually it would be funny to see Tim being awkward for once. But not when Rose is there too. "Problem is if you want more than that. That is going to get really difficult for you an maybe for her."

Tim Drake has posed:
Tim looks a touch discomfited. "Well... I mean." This is not something very easy to openly discuss with anyone, really, though Tim has been flippant about sex and relationships in the past verbally... truth was, he wasn't exactly Dick here. Closest he has had to a relationship was a cluster of a mess that never actually... was a thing, really.

"I don't //do// just sleep with, Conner." Admittedly, he hasn't actually slept with anyone at this point, not that he is admitting //that// out loud. "I get other people can divorce sex from everything, but that's not me."

Conner Kent has posed:
"Thought so," confirms Conner, offering Tim a faint grin. "Well, I think that one is going to be a point of contention between you two. So, I don't know what to tell you, man," he admits. "Usually you are the one that knows what to do, Tim. But I think this time you are as clueless as me."

Tim Drake has posed:
"Probably," Tim admits faintly. He is the smart one, after all. "I hadn't actually expected to talk about sex with her for awhile, except Damian was being an ass and--" Tim cuts himself off, sighing. "I've really screwed up here, haven't I? Dammit. Problem is?" He shuts the laptop, moving over to a workbench and placing it there. "I //like// her. Genuinely. Totally confused by her, honestly more than a little afraid of her, but I like her." He grimaces. "Which means I am entirely screwed here."

Conner Kent has posed:
"I get that," admits Conner, stepping away and pacing. "Pretty much the same for me. I talk with her quite a bit, y'know? I try to understand what goes through her head, and help her dealing with whatever crazy she got from her dad. But I don't think I can really understand her." He sighs, "she is hot, she is smart, she can be very fun to have around, and sometimes it feels she is reaching and asking for help, but she can't even voice for what or how. And when I step forward, she closes up. It has been like this since I met her. With month-long breaks in which she just vanishes."

Tim Drake has posed:
Tim is quiet for a bit, considering it. "Well. I guess I have that to look forward to. Guess I will just wait for her to come back if she vanishes. She always has, right? I don't know." Tim blows out a long breath, ruffling the dark hank of hair falling in his eyes. "I don't expect she's gonna be healed of her damage overnight. Or even quickly. But... I do want to help her find normal. For whatever that is worth for us, I guess. We aren't exactly normal. But you know what I mean. She is hot, and she is smart, and she is... something else. And I feel like a total clown standing here talking about it."

Conner Kent has posed:
"So far she has always been back," agrees Conner. Which is obvious, of course. "I kind of dread the day I'll hear she is in Blackgate for murder, though. Maybe put there by Batman himself."

They are not exactly normal, and Conner folds his arms across his chest. Because if he was normal, maybe Rose would be more normal too. Tim is more normal, and smarter, and maybe he has a chance. Which means he has to stand out of the way, and that stings a little. He would have not accepted it two years ago. He can accept it now. "Hey. We have to talk about it. It is better if I tell you this stuff and you don't have to find out the hard way."

Tim Drake has posed:
"I think there's good in her," Tim says, leaning back on the workstation. "I think with our influence--yours, mine, Cass, Bart... maybe others? We can find that spark and nurture it and show her a better path." He grins a bit. "She's a great ally to have. And I know she has her problems, but as people who care for her-- isn't that what we're supposed to do? Help with those?" Yes, rescuing kittens from trees and all.

Conner Kent has posed:
"I agree with you," replies Conner with a grin. "Which is why I keep trying, I guess," or maybe it is his (their) hormones talking. Or kitten-rescue instincts. Lets go with that. "Okay, enough serious talk. Show me the place and then we can go looking for food. Or some crime to punch." It is all the same fun times, if done with a friend.
