Genosha Burns! Investigating Mutant Town
Date of Scene: 24 June 2020
Location: Bushwick <Mutant Town>
Synopsis: The X-men gain permission to get scans from Mutant Town's remains, and get confirmation it is the same as the craters from Genosha. Hope is restored that some mutants might be alive. Plans are made.
Cast of Characters: Lorna Dane, Martinique Wyngarde, Jean Grey, Douglas Ramsey, Henry McCoy, Julio Richter, Robert Marksman, Franklin Richards
Tinyplot: Genosha Burns

Lorna Dane has posed:
The whole of Mutant Town had been swallowed up and spirited away by Brainiac's massive green lit beams and flown away to who knew where. People were understandably upset. Many were displaced. People who hadn't been in town at that time, came home to find giant pit of nothing where their (admittedly run down) homes had once been.

The chaos that had resulted of a large chunk of NYC going missing hadn't been small by any means. And visitation to the area was on lock down. For this reason it had taken longer time for the X-men officially get clearance to investigate.

The government might not be too fond of mutants, but it was a massive issue to have an unsecured alien event take place in the middle of NYC. If a person didn't live there.. the amount of paperwork and hoop jumping to visit was understandably massive. A large ring of cops, barriers, and tents had been erected around the impact zone. And more than a few government funded, questionable, agencies with alphabet soup acronyms crawled over the area.

Never mind that the same thing had occurred on the other side of the planet with Genosha. That was //elsewhere//. This was America. So only now were the X-men granted 'permission' to visit and analyze the area at large. With plenty of caveats that they follow the rules and not get 'pushy'.

Martinique Wyngarde has posed:
Martinique Wyngarde has never been one for following rules. Or obeying cops. Or having a plan. Or being sensible. So, in anger, and without any clear direction, she decides to get into the hole that used to be Mutant Town. Waiting until it's dark, climbing a fire escape of an adjacent building of useful height, then getting onto the roof. With enough height, it's possible to get OVER the cops and into the restricted zone.

Now what? Just look for clues? Look for leftover invaders lurking? Anything to shoot?! Maybe?

Jean Grey has posed:
Marvel Girl (or Jean) is here, leading the X-Men as she was here to, well, supervise and coordinate, more than anything else. "Alright, Hank, we're going to need to figure out what precisely happened here. Douglas, help him if you can, or if you find /anything/ more out of the ordinary than what's here already." She sounds a bit grim, but... well, given the circumstances...

There's probably a pretty good reason that the normally chipper Jean isn't so happy right now. That said, she looks over at Julio, "Let's stick together, we don't know what sort of surprises might be lurking for us around here." Which is a decidedly pleasant thought, all things considered.

Douglas Ramsey has posed:
There is a... round drone hovering with the rest of the arrivals - a perfect sphere, glossy black. An LED smiley face appears on it in gold light up display. "Good evening. I am the Computative Universal Bolstering Engine." Which is to say - C.U.B.E. - again, this drone is a perfect sphere.

"I am a support drone created by Cypher using his brain engrams as a basis for my computing code, to temporarily assist with any essential tasks you might need in the event of his incapacitation or untimely death. My specialties are decryption, communication, rapid processing of data, and... checking..."

"Sassy rejoinders." The smiley face... grins. "I am at your disposal."

Henry McCoy has posed:
Henry was out and moving as soon as they were cleared by the local authorities. There's a nod to Jean, as he crouches low and begins scenting the area. He's on the prowl, so to speak - his instincts already kicking into overdrive. There may still be danger - and there is definitely a lot of anger from the Beast as he starts investigating.

There's a glance over from the feline visage of Henry to the drone. "Cube. Cute. Help me find any residual tech or energy signatures." He half-growls.

Julio Richter has posed:
Julio shows up along with the more official X-men -- inasmuch as any of the X-men could be considered 'official' -- wearing the simple green vest over black training uniform that he settled on during the Sinister abductions. It's not much of a colorful superhero costume, but he's in no state of mind to be either of those things.

He leans out of the backseat of the car Jean just parked, expression grim at first, but as the police cordon comes into view, he flashes a noticeable sneer at them. Maybe he /should/ invest in a mask, after all. He ducks past Cypher's drone and makes his way toward the edge of the crater, intending to get as close as he can. His boots crunch on gravel-fine rubble along the way.

Robert Marksman has posed:
Robert Marksman has been doing the volunteer medical thing in the area. Seeing to those who normally use the clinic in mutant town, and helping where he can. Hearing rumor about some people going in to investigate has got him curious. So tonight he has brought forth the darkforce to cover him, and decided to see what is what. His own vision better in the darker times than in the bright light, he will look for the visitors, and move to shadow them about 100-200 feet out.

Douglas Ramsey has posed:
"As cute as an advanced drone made using leftover alien computer parts that Cypher found in a closet can be." CUBE says, before the smiley-face turns into a stern :I emoji. "Right you are, Beast. Scanning now." The drone activates, and emits a 360' fan of light from its midsection, as it begins to explore along the edge of the crater.

"Reviewing the data, this looks a lot like what happens when you use a trowel to scoop a plant out of a garden bed without damaging it." The drone muses as it runs another scan. "Meaning there's a 78.6 chance of probablity that this location was removed intact. I'm collecting more data, so that percentage will change..."

Lorna Dane has posed:
The police that continued to monitor the situation allowed those associated with the X-men (who had gone out of their way to acquire permission through appropriate channels). Though that wasn't to say that there weren't scowls associated with their arrive or dirty looks. But they were allowed through. People knew people and well, it was hard to argue when proper procedure had been followed.

Lorna got out of the car along with the assorted others, having been careful to dye her hair black to avoid any questions or uncomfortable attention drawn to their group. It was one thing to allow the X-men near the ruins of Mutant Town. Quite another to allow a woman with questionable ties to mutant 'terrorist' organizations to poke around. Regardless on what her standing was in the international realm of politics. She glanced at the others as she stepped out and made her way over to the massive crater. Her lips pursed together into a thin line. "It looks like the pit where the palace once stood. A little less glassy residue." She murmured, squinting as she squatted down as close to the edge as was mandated to be 'safe'.

No one was entirely sure how structurally sound the edges were, and if it might lead to a further collapse. "How many people would you guess lived in Mutant Town at the time it got snatched?"

Franklin Richards has posed:
The Fantastic Four is here too and were granted permission. Likely with fewer complications than the X-Men. Their arrival is announced by the barely audible hum of one of the team's flying vehicles. Specifically, the chosen member to investigate the disappearance of Mutant Town is Franklin Richards, dressed in his blue and black uniform with an iconic 'F' over his chest. He descends from the spotless Fantasti-car on invisible disks.
He starts a preliminary scan of his own, pulling from his pack a thing that looks vaguely like a tricorder.

Martinique Wyngarde has posed:
Martinique Wyngarde makes her way around, and eventually. Wait. "Lorna?" she calls out, waving, jogging toward the group. "I'm so glad to see you here. I... don't know what to do. I Thought if I just got here I would find something to do about this. But this is way over my head. Just like Hammer Bay." The others she looks at mostly skeptically, recognizing a number of them of course. Weapons flashed under her trenchcoat as she jogs over.

Julio Richter has posed:
As he approaches the rim of the crater, Julio isn't relying on his eyes as much as his vibrational senses, so he mostly misses any dirty looks. He doesn't really expect to feel anyone wandering around in the gap where Bushwick used to be, but a man can hope. He does, however, glance over his shoulder directly at Robert, who might be cloaked in shadow, but whose feet hit the pavement like anybody else's. He's distracted almost immediately by the footfalls of Martinique's much more direct approach, and gives her a confused look, not recognizing her voice. She seems to know Lorna, though, so he thinks no more of it and returns to what he was doing.

Like the Genoshan queen, he crouches at the crater's edge, bare hands shuffling past the chunks of pavement to press against the ground. There's no point feeling for a void, like he did when searching for caves where Sinister's goons would hide -- the void is obvious. What he's feeling for instead is anything else: anything unfamiliar, alien, or active in the mineral makeup of the crater.

Henry McCoy has posed:
Couched low, near the very edge of the crater, Hank sniffs about. He's sure Doug's scans will be more fruiful - why did he leave his tools at home? There's a slight growl of frustration, the man at odds with himself. "Did we get clearance to go into the crater, or are we going to rile up the authorities by doing so?" His eyes look to the other people who he arrived with. The newcomers are noted, a nod to Lorna - hard to hide a scent.

"Cypher, please let me know when the scans are complete. I am hoping there was some tech left behind - even though this looks as if it were simply scooped out of the earth."

Robert Marksman has posed:
Robert Marksman will raise a brow at being looked at directly, but he will head towards the group as he has been seen. He does look around the crater with thermal vision looking for hot and cold spots. He will look over to The Beast and say "Dr. McCoy." He tries to make himself sound official and the fact that there is another team here, maybe tonight is the night the hears all got clearance, and he can bluff his way along.

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna blinked in surprise, her focus shifting to the voice that called for her. "Martinique." She glanced once at the various X-men that were there, and bit her lower lip. The woman was very much not on the up and up, and moreover, had ties to the Brotherhood. She didn't want to make it an issue, but she knew it could well be one.

"We just got official clearance to be here." She murmured, her voice low and not meant to carry beyond their group. A glance was spared for Hank. "I think they permitted us full clearance to investigate. They've likely already got their official samples and scans for whatever. We're on our own in terms of safety if we cross the line is my guess. A kind of don't sue us and you can do what you want, I bet." She murmured.

Which is when her focus shifted to Franklin Richards and then well, another man that approached. Seeming to know Beast. She straightened and nodded to both in turn curiously.

Douglas Ramsey has posed:
"Anomalies in temperature and ambient background light indicate the presence of a hidden observer." Cube reports, before it... displays a holographic pop up highlighting various terrain features and then an arrow pointing in Robert's approximate location. The caption on the arrow says 'LOOKIE LOO'.

The drone continues its search. "Scanning for technological, techno-organic, and advanced organic signitures."

Franklin Richards has posed:
"Too many," murmurs Franklin, catching Lorna's inquiry. He is somewhat distracted but not by the scans which ran automatically. Rather, blue eyes, blown wide, stare at the sheer magnitude and destruction of this feat. The readings were for the data-crunchers in his family. He coughs, "To be honest, I don't know. How large was the mutant population in Genosha?"

He watches some of the doctors, the assassin approaching, the blue doctor, and the drone that reminds him a little like H.E.R.B.I.E. "We'd appreciate any samples you find."

Julio Richter has posed:
Ric stands back up, brushing the dust off his hands, and announces, "Nothing special I can feel here." Disappointment laces his voice. "No survivors running around, no rocks from outer space. Just a big fucking hole in the ground." He brushes his hair back from his face with one hand, and a tiny bit of residual concrete dust is transferred, lightening it.

He steps back from the edge and exhales slowly, releasing the seismic energy he had been picking through. He ends up relatively near Lorna and Martinique, although he's too distracted by his own frustration to pay any mind to their private conversation. He simply looks around at the those whose scanners and sniffers and so on haven't already turned up a big blank.

Martinique Wyngarde has posed:
Martinique Wyngarde gets close enough to the group to be seen clearly. She spreads her arms, points to herself, and says "Martinique Wyngarde. I'm sure some of you...." Eyes particularly going to the big, blue, obvious X-Man. "... may not approve of how I operate, but if this keeps happening, there won't be any of us left to care. How do we stop this?"

Henry McCoy has posed:
The Beast pauses when addressed by Robert. Yellow eyes go up and down the other man, nodding. "I am assuming you're here to find out what happened as well?" He grumbles. "And you are?" He wonders, audibly. Too many indeed, he nods to Franklin's comment in agreement. Once the comments from Lorna are heard, he drops down into the crater - not at all fearful of the depth. Cats don't fall hard, generally.

At the introduction from Martinique, there's a growl from the bottom of the crater. "If you're hear to cause problems, just go. If you're here to help, I don't care about your affiliation."

Robert Marksman has posed:
Robert Marksman says, "You can call me Darksight, I have read some of you papers and followed your work with the Avengers. Yes, I was hoping to help find out what has happened to the people here. Many of them are my patients, and their family that are left as well." He gives a bit of a lead on who he is that might be traceable in the future. "I have a few abilities that allow me to check for some things that normal sensors might and some that they would not."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna glanced toward Franklin. "We had two cities, Carrion Cove and Hammer Bay. We had sixteen million people. Humans and mutants both. There were these--" She gestured to the hole that was Bushwick. "All over the place. The Palace. The main streets.. It was all over the place. We thought it was from the giant Sentinels. We couldn't pick up anything strange about them. It was all glass.." She trailed off, pursing her lips.

"I dunno why it isn't here. But if it's as that broadcast said? Then it means people are alive. I don't know how many, Doug.. er Cube? Can you give me a guesstimate on how many percentage wise might have survived what happened in Genosha?" Her eyebrows furrowed sharply together.

As Hank jumped and called back to Martinique's words, she glanced back, and arched a brow upward. Robert and Ric were both spared a glance. "Thanks for trying to pick up something. It's what we found before. It's good to know there weren't Sentinels here though."

Douglas Ramsey has posed:
"Analyzing..." The Drone says. "That depends on variables that aren't currently available based on intent. If the intent was to preserve Mutants for living study, probability is high - the harvest of urbanscapes indicates this may be a possibility. If the intent was to procure biological specimens for genetic harvesting... probability is lower. Genetic samples deemed undesirable may be discarded - more data is required."

A frowny-face emoji appears on CUBE's spherical display.

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean nods, "At the moment, Ms. Wyngarde, we have bigger fish to fry. Or cyborgs, as the case may be." A bit of grim humor there, as she looks over at Hank, sending him a bit of a reproving look. Mainly because she wants to make sure everyone is on the same page.

"Have you found out anything, Ms. Wyngarde? I admit that it's... well, in a way it's gratifying to know /what/ exactly has been doing this. At least in a general sense." She hmms, and looks over at Lorna, then nods towards Franklin, recognizing him from the Fantastic Four attire. "And please, if you find anything... we're definitely all on the same page, here."

Martinique Wyngarde has posed:
Martinique Wyngarde shakes her head first to Hank, and then to Jean, as she makes her way over to stand near Lorna. "I'm here to help mutants, as a whole. That includes you. But... I don't know anything. Except that this has to stop, and I'd like to help if I can. But it sounds like you're... checking, and don't know where to go yet." She then sighs, disappointed that there may be nothing to shoot.

Julio Richter has posed:
Ric raises an eyebrow at Martinique's announcement of her identity. He draws a quick breath as though he's about to say something, but instead his brows furrow, and he remains silent a moment longer. He's very obviously drawing a total blank on the name. "Are you also a pop star?" he finally asks. Last time this happened, it was a pop star.

Still, that doesn't stop him from joining the conversation. "Space," he says, pointing upward illustratively. "Space is where we need to go. It's just very high, is all." He rolls one shoulder and continues, "I was more hoping to find something that would help us when we got there. Something he left behind, maybe, or some sign of a weakness?" He shrugs over at Lorna. "No such luck."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna crouched back down, sighing softly as Cube analyzed and delivered the news that it was hard to say how many had survived what had happened in Genosha. The death toll had been in the millions previously, with only a few thousand left behind to survive. People //had// died. The Sentinels had seen to that.. But now? There was a chance, however small it might be.. that they were still alive. Her father might be still alive.

It was a slim hope, but something.

She heaved a sigh. "Thank you Cube.." She grimaced, looking down to where Hank was. "Got anything?" She called, and glanced back to Martinique and Jean, nodding at the two before her focus returned to Franklin.

"So what's the story you've got? Anything we've missed?" She had briefly run into him when she'd been at Xavier's and he had been there. It was some time ago, but it was hard to forget people with ties to the 'Fantastic Four'.

She paused as Ric spoke though. "SHIELD took one of the Wild Sentinels that attacked here a month or so ago. And we haven't had much luck with those remains in Genosha.. Now that we know this.. alien.. hrm.. whatever.. sent them.."

Franklin Richards has posed:
"Right. It'll be good to compare findings with the stuff stated in the Genosha reports," Franklin says, launching a white robotic sphere covered in lenses for photographic documentation while his scans complete. Dropping onto the debris with a soft crunch, his lips twist into a frown. He's used to cold reads, but that doesn't make Cube's take on the situation any less difficult to hear.

He places a hand on Lorna's shoulder. It's a fleeting touch, but he doesn't have to be a telepath to know that the circumstances are causing the gathered varying degrees of grief. "It's always possible some survived and can be rescued." A small, hopeful smile.

Then, his attention goes back to the scanning device. "I don't know. The signatures left from the...retrieval device match the reports that we have from Genosha. Which is to say, there isn't a whole lot. At the very least, it'll help us create some sort of defense to Brainiac's blast."

Henry McCoy has posed:
The growl from the Beast is filled with frustration. "No. Nothing. No real scents to hone in on. No real traces I can find." It's clear his frustration is with himself! The beast lifts a girder, tossing it to the side in anger. Much more than he'd normally be able to heave, for those who know him.

"Cypher. You are the one with the scanner. Anything and everything, please." It's definitely pleading - his science escaping him at the time.

Julio Richter has posed:
Julio grimaces when Lorna tells him that there was tech recovered, but it went to SHIELD. "Bien. That's..." He takes a breath, huffing it out on the exhale, and -- in his version of being diplomatic -- continues, "Then I guess we can hope that a human spy agency is going to do the right thing for all mutants with their broken genocide robot." This is diplomatic in the sense that the words themselves are more neutral than he might like. This is not diplomatic in the sense that every accented syllable drips with Julio's disdain for SHIELD, the government, human benevolence, and the general proposition that good things might occasionally happen to mutants without being wrested from the universe by force.

Robert Marksman has posed:
Robert Marksman looks to them and says "Cybernetics, not just robotics? Cyber is my specialty, I might be able to tell something from that. Has anyone checked to see if there is anything missing in the form of energy or radiation in this area that is present in the surrounding area? I mean if this threat is trying to hide itself, maybe it can be followed by the lack of a trail, maybe it cleans up after itself too well.

Douglas Ramsey has posed:
"As you say." The drone says, before it levitates into the center of the crater. "Beginning a broad multrispectrum scan of the crater now." There is a thoughtful pause.

"Please do not look directly at your CUBE while it is running this broad scan. Technology in this drone was taken from leftover Shi'ar computer parts Cypher found in a storage room and his own experiments replicating Technarchic techno-organic adaptable circuitry. We are still unsure if observing visible energy patterns created by your CUBE will cause Techno-organic necrosis." Another pause. "Probability is low. Better to not take any risks."

Then the drone begins to glow, as it emits weblike patterns of light, scanning the crater.

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna offered Franklin a faint hint of a smile. "Something is better than nothing. And if we can save Mutant Town and those that were thought to be dead in Gneosha? Even a few? Yeah.. I'll count that as a win. Now only if we can figure out what to do ... so we can //do// that." She muttered, and shook her head as she glanced to Jean, Hank's frustration, and Ric' as well as the various others gathered about.

A glance was spared for the stranger with Robert, but he didn't seem to be invasive.

A pause as she glanced to Jean and raised a brow in question, wondering if the telepathic woman picked up anything off from the man. Before she'd continue to speak. "Well it's been a month at least, and while some SHIELD agents did offer to help in Genosha.. I'm not holding out hope." She paused, and pursed her lips together.

"But if Brainiac.. whatever he is was able to order the Sentinels into attacking us... or whatever. That has to be left behind somewhere, right? Trask has to have a mainframe somewhere." She kept her voice low. "Even if he's 'shut down'." She used air quotes there. Which is when Cube spoke and she winced, turning around to pointedly turn her gaze away. She wasn't going to argue with the alien based tech thing.

Henry McCoy has posed:
After kicking around some other rubble, Hank climbs his way back to the surface - claws digging into the concrete with little effort. Vaulting over the lip of the crater, he moves to stand nearer to the other X-Men, perhaps a bit protectively. A hand comes up to shield his eyes from the scanning of CUBE.

"I'm not getting much here. I can't think straight about the... technical ramifications of this scenario." He grumbles.

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean nods over towards Hank, "That's perfectly understandable, but if this Brainiac needs the mutant DNA intact..." She hmms, "It might be that they are, in fact, alive somewhere. If so, we need to find a way to get to them."

She pauses, then continues, "If nothing else, we'll need to figure something out to take the fight to this creature." She looks over at Lorna and nods, "If he's using Sentinel technology, we'll need to figure out where they were based out of and manufactured. Any lead there would be pretty helpful, and it's definitely a start."

Martinique Wyngarde has posed:
Martinique Wyngarde looks to Hank, to Jean, to Lorna. "I'm no use with science. But... when it's time to fight back. I want to help. Whoever's on the right side, I want to help." She pulls out a handgun from inside her coat, and holds it, looking at it. "It's all I can do." Then holstering the weapon, she bows to Lorna, and takes off.

Franklin Richards has posed:
"That's a good point," Franklin closes his eyes and turns away slightly when Cube flashes everyone. But he continues, "How many factories did he have operational? They may not be on the public record, but I can check our database for their locations. Dad's got enough satellites that a thing like that couldn't go unnoticed. Unless Brainiac is building the Sentinels elsewhere, we can probably pinpoint the location where these attackers came from. Whatever use that'll be."

Julio Richter has posed:
Julio gives the drone a perplexed look as it gets bashful about its scans and starts nervously jabbering about alien technologies and exotic spectra -- or at least, that's how he's interpreting it. Still, with a roll of his eyes, he obligingly turns away, giving the shy sphere its privacy.

Lorna's speculation catches his attention once he does, and he scratches at his scruffy chin thoughtfully. "If you can get us a list of old Sentinel sites, I can look for caves, underground bases -- that sort of stuff," he tells Franklin. Then, with a shrug and the only real smile he's worn tonight: "Or just bring the buildings down completely."

Douglas Ramsey has posed:
Cube finishes its scan, the light show ending as abruptly as it began. "Scan complete. It is now safe to look."

"It will take some time to fully examine all collected data. Results will be made available for your review on completed analysis, Beast. Also, my battery is at twenty-five percent. I take a standard iPhone charger."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna nodded, "We have records on where Trask kept his facilities, back when they were running things off the factory line. Supposedly he's been shut down. We know that Brainiac hit the Satellites and security systems in Genosha. We just don't have any of them left. Here? He left traces. Not much but now we know what we're looking for. I think if we can get our hands something he's touched.. we'll figure out something. Yeah?" She nodded to Martinique, a faint smile on her expression as she glanced to the others gathered.

"Like Jean said, there's a good chance people might be alive. And that's something we didn't think before. We can figure this out." She wanted to turn and look to Cube, but refrained. Rictor earned a nodded.

"Agreed." As Cube spoke, she glanced to it and exhaled a breath. "Right, let's get out of here before the cops and government officials start getting antsy with us."

Julio Richter has posed:
Hunched over, Julio squeezes his hands into fists and glowers sidelong at the cops in question. "Dios, I wish they would."
