HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAIGE!
Date of Scene: 26 June 2020
Location: Roof - Titan's Tower
Synopsis: No description
Cast of Characters: Heather Danielson, Paige Guthrie, Samuel Morgan, Samuel Guthrie, Kian

Heather Danielson has posed:
It's a party alright! Heather set things up. She got decorations, food, drinks, food, music, food, and food! She announced the pool party with fliers all over the tower, and invited anyone and everyone so as not to exclude anyone. And then the day came. She met Paige and Sam Guthrie at the entrance to the tower already dressed for the pool in her little white string bikini. But with a sarong about her waist for.. well for reasons. But as soon as she saw Paige there, she launched herself at her newest friend with a hug. Okay, she held back so she didn't kill the girl.
"Come on inside!" she announced. And then came a basic tour before leading the two of them to the roof via the elevator, where the Olympic sized pool awaits! Once the doors open, she steps out and gestures, "After you!" she announces, displaying the whole decorated pool party area with HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAIGE! written in decorated letters, and a giant cake custom made for her with multiple layers of flavors, kinda like Husk!

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Paige has to admit: This is probably the most excited she's been for a birthday. She gets to spend her 18th at Titan's Tower! How cool is that!? After a harrowing flight to the Tower, riding on the back of her brother like a rocket, she lands, her legs a bit wobbly from the flight.

There she's greeted by Heather, her new friend, and way more party decorations than she expected. "Wow!" she says, coming in from the street. "This is... you didn't have to go all out like this for me!"

Samuel Morgan has posed:
A friend of one Titan is a friend of all Titans, near enough, and by the time the fliers went around the Tower Sam had already decided to join in on the festivities. It had been explained to him, in great detail, that from time to time he should take a break, and that it was perfectly permissible not to be working, researching, studying, building or otherwise engaged on business all the time. Hence, party time. Or at least, relaxation time to celebrate Paige's 18th.

When Paige and her brother land on the roof, he's putting the final touches on the fireworks launchers, and the laser lights, just waiting for the day to get sufficiently dark and then the whole of Metropolis would know that a birthday is being celebrated over in the Tower.

Like Heather, he's dressed for the heat of the season, in reasonable shorts and a t-shirt that hides most of his scars, but with sleeves just short enough to show off the intricate scorpion tattoo on his right bicep. "Oh hey, welcome!"

When the guest of honor arrives, a German Shepherd barrels straight at her, and comes to an excited halt after running two rings around her, sitting down and presenting a card. It's one of those novelty things that makes it look as if it was drawn by either a toddler or possibly even the dog himself. Inside is the message 'Such Birthday! Great congratulations! Much Wow!' followed by a stylised pawprint and the shaky rendering of the name 'Bear'.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie is walking along beside Paige, and smirks a bit. He know what happens when super teens get together, and if he let Paige, go off to some other dimension or time travel to the 1740s or such on his watch Ma would have his hide. He smiles a bit as it seems Paige has made some friends that seem to think a lot of them. He did not know it was a pool party for sure, so he is in his normal jeans and a T-shirt but not his usually Lila, he is wearing this one. https://i.imgur.com/lLtcrTi.jpg

Heather Danielson has posed:
Out there on the rooftop, Heather drops to one knee and reaches to nuzzle Bear, "So cute!" she offers with a beaming smile. "Whos the cutest puppers ever?!" she asks in her babytalk voice before she looks up and smirks to Sam Guthrie, "Sam, Sam. Sam, Sam." And then she stands and points at big bro's shirt, "Nice." she adds before turning her scantily clad self towards the pool, "And Paige. Stow that crap. You only turn eighteen once, right? Your only job today is to enjoy yourself."
That said, she steps over and turns on the music, which.. is way too loud. Oh, also, it's AC-DC at the moment, starting with Shoot to Thrill, which makes her go into her teen headbanger dance... sure, it looks silly, but it's fun, right?!

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Paige laughs in delight at Bear's antics. She plucks the greeting card from him and "Awww!" Leaning down to give the German Shephard a big ole hug she says, "This the best birthday card ever!" Standing back up she just looks around in amazement at all the work that's been put in.

Then the music starts and she winces a little at how loud it is. And it's AC/DC, which isn't exactly her type of music, but she's never going to say anything about it for fear of being rude. She makes her way towards Sam (not her brother) and sticks out a hand. "Hi! I'm Paige!" she shouts over the music, introducing herself.

Kian has posed:
Sounds like a *very* large bird coming in for a landing -- but as it turns out, it's a fairly small (or as he would insist on, a perfectly normal sized) birdman.  "I haf see... nnh.  Do not haf wor'd yet," Kían says excitedly.  "Rock from s-pace.  Headin' to Tower.  Los' t-rack of it, was so shock'd to see below me, hap-pen so fas'!  Iss okay, iss no one hur-t?"
Only then does he register the presence of strangers.  He blinks once in confusion, then bows to them, spreading his wings slightly.  "Oh!  /Kié/!"  Sirens aren't going off, so they must be allowed to be here.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"We've met." Sam grins as he's introduced to Sam, and offers the elder Guthrie a glass of iced tea, the drink of choice for such warm weather. "The fundraiser a few months back, with the unfortunate incident. You were with Miss Allegra Caradenza, I believe, I came backstage to make sure you were all okay. Small world, isn't it?"

Bear, for his part, seems to nod when put to the question. Who's the cutest pupper ever? Why, he is of course, and he knows it too, but gives everyone his happy doggy grin regardless, because humans should be happy. So many happy humans!

For his part, Sam shakes the offered hand with a smile, giving a half bow afterwards. "Welcome to our humble abode. And congratulations on completing your eighteenth circumnavigation of the sun." He has to fair shout himself, but it's AC/DC... it has a special place in his heart.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie shakes the hand and says "Would be even more so, but Miss Caradenza had plans she could not get out of." He tells the other taking the glass of tea. He looks around a bit and stops as he hears the bird man's words. He will pull some goggles form his back pocket, and sets the tea down "Which way is it incoming from?" He asks the Birdman.

Heather Danielson has posed:
Dancing about is part of what Heather really loves to do, but after a minute or so she realizes that she's dancing alone and smirks. Then she heads over and grabs a plate full of ribs. Point of order, she cooked these on the grill herself using her Daddy's recipe. So as she comes back over, she has BBQ sauce staining the corners of her mouth, and she doesn't care.
"Food or swim?" She asks Paige as the volume drops a bit.

Paige Guthrie has posed:
"Well, Momma always said that if you eat before you swim you're going to get cramps," Paige explains, letting some of her Kentuckian accent out as she shouts over the music. "But I always thought that was bunk. 'Sides, those ribs look awful good."

She's stopped short from the food table when Kian arrives, and explains there's a meteor headed their way, when she realizes that he's talking about Cannonball's rocket trail shooting across the sky. "Oh!" she says gesturing to the other Guthrie, "No, that was just my brother, Sam. Hi! I'm Paige, by the way." She sticks out her hand at the birdman.

Kian has posed:
Kían accepts that explanation; he's heard weirder.  Just another person with powers, like everyone else on this world that he's met, right?  "Péij," he repeats.  He has much better luck with, "an' Sam."  He gestures towards himself.  "Kían.  Mus' not shake han's.  Con-tac' telepath.  Am tol' Ter-ran-s do not like men-tal touch, yis?"

Samuel Morgan has posed:
There's a short laugh and Sam moves to slap the other Sam on the back, smiling. "Don't worry, he just saw you arriving, like your sister said. If there was anything heading towards the tower..." and here he smiles a bit wider, his eyes glowing a bright blue for a moment "... I'd know. You're standing on top of the most sophisticated radar detection system in the western hemisphere." Not as if it was a secret. "So relax, have fun, there's no danger here."

And so he meanders to the food table, past Kian. "Ki-ay, Kian. Had a good flight?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie will offer his hand and says "Am used to it, and if your not wanting contact unless you press for it, probably would not make contact" He tells the bird man. He does put the goggles away and runs a hand through his hair, "Yea, sounds like ya saw mah blast field. It is around me and anyone I carry when I fly." He will get his tea back for a sip of it, and says "Not from earth? You related to the Shi'ar?"

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Paige takes her hand back when it's explained to her that Kian's a contact telepath. "Oh! Okay! A lot don't like it if they're unprepared for it," she explains. "Do end up touching a lot where you come from?"

At her brother's question, she nudges him. "Sam! Not all aliens know each other!" she admonishes. She wanders over to where the plates are and gets herself some of that sweet smelling barbeque. "This smells so delicious."

Kian has posed:
"Shiár?  No, I am /Akiár/.  Do not... nnh.  I do not know, hwat Shiár iss," Kían explains.  Certainly he doesn't look like a Shi'ar -- no crest of feathers on his head, just hair in a style best described as 'windblown'. More or less human, scaled down a little, with avian wings.
A little shyly, he gravitates towards the other Sam, and Bear, whom he already knows -- though he kind of keeps Sam between himself and the dog.  That's still a really large animal, as far as the birdman's concerned, even if he is friendly.  "Iss... even't?" he asks, clearly baffled by the music and the decorations and all.  "Iss holy day?  I do not know when Ter-ran-s haf those."

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"My, don't they feed y'all where yer from?" Sam cries in his best Kentuckian which is... not actually half bad, the kind of 'almost there' drawl you get from actually having lived there for a while, but not long enough to have gone fully native. At the same time he's piling ribs up on plates, in preparation to feed the guests. That's pretty much a Titan tradition. "Help yehself to summa dese goodies, an' dontcha be shy 'bout it, hear?"

    Cough.

"Yeah, I can't keep that up anymore. Been years since I was in Lexington." And without looking, he's feeding bits of rib to Bear, who knows his human well enough to know when treats are to be had. Nom nom.

With a smile, he attempts the nigh impossible... to explain the concept of a birthday to Kian. "Not a holy day, or even a holiday. It's a personal thing. Paige was born exactly eighteen years ago, and that's an important milestone in human culture..."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over and says "Hey Ah ment no offence, the Shi'ar empire is huge, and there is all kinds of folks in it. I was thinking maybe they might share some connection. Though I will admit, he looks more like Josh than them." He looks over to Kian "Ah ment no offence, and apologize if I did offend." He looks over to the other Sam "So what had you in Lexington and for a bit of time it sounds like."

Paige Guthrie has posed:
"Not half bad," Paige says, giving Sam (not her brother) a sly smile about his Kentuckian accent. She takes a plate from him and does a little curtsey and lets her Kentucky all hang out, "Why thank you, sir." She takes a bite off the ribs and chews it slowly, savoring the taste. "Mah God. Sam! Sam! You /gotta/ try these ribs. I haven't had ribs this good since Uncle Casey Fourth of July special!"

Then the music switches over to some country. Garth Brook's 'Friends in Low Places' in fact. "Woo!" shouts Paige as the familiar cords start blasting out of the sound system, and she starts singing along, having memorized the lyrics long, long ago.

"Blame it all on my roots, I showed up in boots / and ruined your black tie affair!" She looks around to see if anybody is sharing her enthusiasm.

Heather Danielson has posed:
Okay, so Heather took a few minutes to down a dozen ribs. One might think it's lucky she didn't eat the bones too. She eats like she's a speedster. But she's not. Right? Paige should recall that metabolism issue Heather has that makes so many girls jealous.
Either way, she returns to the group after eating her fill (for now!) and gives a smile, "So, wanna test the cramps thing?" she asks as she reaches and unfastens the sarong about her waist before turning to step over to the pool.

Kian has posed:
Kían looks genuinely baffled at the apology -- and he takes a little longer than usual to figure out what was being said to him, since he's also never heard a Southern accent of any meaningful strength before.  His language lessons are pretty much plain vanilla "accentless" American English.  But he does finally sort out what Sam the Fireball is saying.  "Nnh, no, is no har-m done, no apology.  I am hap-py to hear iss other people like mine out there."  Yeah, he's definitely never heard of the Shi'ar.
San the Teammate gets a funny look.  "Iss celeb-rate *own* bir't-day?"  He doesn't actually add, 'How odd!' to the statement, but with the confused look on his face, he doesn't really need to.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"Business." Sam grins to Sam, giving the man a wink. It's clear he's not going to talk about it, and is avoiding the topic for the sake of the party. Another plate is stacked up high and held out to the elder Guthrie, even as the music starts to roll and he can't help but join in on a few lines.

~"And I saw the surprise, and the fear in his eyes, when I took his glass of champagne"~ He's even trying to manage the proper accent, with a suitably serious 'don't got no social graces' look on his face. Just a bit longer and he'll start to suggest a karaoke...

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie will sing a bit with Paige making sure she is not singing alone. He does not sing often but he aint gonna live his kid sister hanging. He will take the plate that is offered to him, and says "Thanks." He will tell the other Sam. He looks over to Kian, and says "When you consider someone, friend, family or both, you celebrate their day of both in a way to say your glad they are here and a part of your life. Usually the closer the closer the self friend is the more the celebration is." Yea Sam broke into an old habit there when explaining human culture.

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Paige good naturedly throws an arm around Sam (not her brother) and belts out the chorus with him, "I've got friends in *low* places! / where the whiskey drowns / and the beer chases! my blues away!" She laughs, intoxicated by the sheer silliness of it all.

Heather's suggestion breaks her out of her country moment. "Yes! Let's swim!" She pulls off her t-shirt and shorts, revealing a one piece bathing suit underneath it all and she runs towards the pool and leaps in, curled into a ball. "CANNONBALL!" *SPLOOSH*

Heather Danielson has posed:
Which splashes Heather as she is a bit less enthusiastic... if only because a cannonball is likely to remove one or both pieces of her bikini. Which is something of the style that she'd model these days. But she drops in with a hand holding her top on even after the splash.Nobody could ever accuse her of being shy... just not an exhibitionist in the totality sense of it.
But she comes up from the water, smiling wide as she brushes her blonde locks back with her hands, "Oh man, cool water on a hot day is -so- good."

Kian has posed:
"I un-der's-tan' bir't-day.  My paren's celeb-rate day I was bor'n, days b-rother, sis-ter bor'n.  Iss /their/ day to celeb-rate, not mine.  Iss their...."  He trails off, obviously struggling to find the right word, fails, and tries going at it a different way.  "I do nothin', day I was bor'n.  /c'chal'yw/... nnh.  Paren's do all wor'k.  I am jus' there.  Iss their day, not mine."
He also heads towards the pool, but he does not get in; he just finds a deck chair to sprawl out on.  "I celeb-rate day of /I'takár/, day of Fir's Flight.  *I* do that, not paren's, iss my day."

Samuel Morgan has posed:
    ~"An' I'm oohkay"~

Sam's voice bellows along, grinning from ear to ear when the impromptu sing-a-long ends. But, it seems he draws the line at getting into the pool, despite being dressed for it if he would only take off his shirt. But that doesn't seem to be happening.

Instead he grabs himself an ice tea and sits down by the poolside, feet in the water but no more. "Day of first flight huh? How about day of first swim?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks to Paige and a brow raises as she calls out Cannonball, and he is sorely tempted, but he does not know what Titan tower might consider an attack and better to be safe than sorry. He will move to sit where he can talk with Kian and the others "Ah can see the day of first flight being celebrated, my own was a memorial day, but then Ah did not know Ah could fly when it happened.

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Paige surfaces as well, tossing her head so that her own blonde hair is flung out of her eyes. "It is!" she agrees with Heather, as she treads water in the deep end. She spins around to face her brother, the other Sam, and Kian. "C'mon!" she cajoles. "We can't be the only ones who're going to go swimming!"

Heather Danielson has posed:
"I dunno. Sam sure... but not Kian. I'm not sure he's part waterfowl." Heather remarks as she breast strokes her way towards the others. "But Sam and Sam.. the two of you oughta at least get wet, if only for a moment!" she calls out as she gets to water shallow enough to stand up in. "If you don't... I might be forced to splash ya."

Kian has posed:
It's probably a good thing Kían's command of English is limited.  He has some definite things he could say about Teammate Sam's suggestion, and one or two of them might be biophysically problematic.  Fortunately, it's Heather to the rescue; he nods once in her general direction.  "Wing-s get wet, iss bad.  For me."
Instead, he sprawls out comfily on his front, and kicks off his sandals.  Already not wearing a shirt, so that's taken care of.  Reaches for the belt of his kilt... and then remembers that's not a thing done on Earth.  Silly planet.  So he just folds his arms and rests his chin thereon, watching the aquatic frolicking.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"Y'know... if they put it like that." Sam grins and stands, stretching out for a moment. A few seconds later he pats his pockets, makes sure they're empty...

And somersaults into the pool. No effort, no hesitation.

Besides, Heather is right, it's amazing to be able to dive into cool water on a hot day. Sam doesn't come back up until he's swam at least half a length underwater, surfacing with a smile. "Don't know why we don't do that more often."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie will look over to them, and says "Ah just got my ribs, and Ah am in Jeans." He says to them perhaps making excuse, perhaps actually wanting to eat the ribs. He does smirk a bit watching them, though. He aint much older than them, and reminds him of goofing off with his own friends.

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Paige squeals in glee when she's splashed by Sam's (not her brother) dive into the pool. She paddles over to where Kian is sitting. "I can see why you wouldn't want to get your wings wet," she say. "So you get a pass."

To Sam (her brother), however, she scowls. "Okay, I understand wanting to finish your ribs, but I /told/ you there was going to be a pool. You didn't think to bring your bathing suit?"

Heather Danielson has posed:
Grinning, Heather winds up. She leans back in the water.. only to duck her head as Samuel dives in. "See? One Sam has the wisdom to know to give in when two teenaged girls start with the pressure." she states... moving her hand back and forth under the surface of the water... causing quite a wake to build up. I mean she -is- super strong. Right?

Kian has posed:
Upon some reflection, Kían supposes he can see why swimming might be appealing to wingless Terrans, and he grins at Paige.  "Iss how you can feel f-ree movemen', like in f-ligh't, yis?  Hwen you are in water?"
He clambers out of the deck chair, and stretches out at the edge of the shallow end, dangling one arm into the water, resting his head on the other, just watching.  "Mus' feel weir'd, if hyu not use to it."

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Treading water, Sam (henceforth Bean), grins at his brother-in-name. The grin only widens when he can feel the wave action starting. "Fair enough. But it feels like you're going to get wet regardless."

And then a nod to Kian. "Pretty much. I mean... it's the closest we get to actually flying. Unless you can actually fly, I suppose, but that's pretty rare." Even on Earth, with all its myriad superpowers.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks to his sister and says "Alexis was going to bring them before she ended up not being able to make it." He explains and then looks over to Heather "Ah do not think you want to play who can make the biggest splash at the other." a Brow raises but he does move his plate behind him protect the food with his body.

Heather Danielson has posed:
"Oh, it's not about size." states Heather. Then she looks to Paige and wrinkles up her nose, "Why is it always about size with guys?" She asks as she rolls her blue eyes. Then she steps forward and brings her full hundred twenty or so pounds of weight in as she cups her hand and lifts it out of the water, only to aim it.. and a cone of water towards Sam Guthrie... ten tons of force is a lot, but she's holding back.... still.
In the aftermath, she admits, "It's about precision and only hitting the person you -want- to hit." With a sublimely sweet (and smug!) smile on her face.

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Paige has her back turned to Heather, so she is completely oblivious as to what is about to transpire. She grins up at Kian, "I suppose so. There's also something about being in a nice cool pool on a warm summers day. The way the water kind of hugs and cools you is just a really nice way to spend the afternoon." She grins, "I've only flown in airplanes. Or on Sam's back, but that really isn't flying. It's more like rocketing."

Then there's a FWOOSH as water goes sailing and absolutely /drenches/ her brother. She laughs lightly at his misfortune, paddling back to clear the way for any retaliation.

Kian has posed:
"It woul' haf be *very* hot to make me wan' to get in water," Kían says with a small smile.  "Iss a lake on my home land.  Haf not go fur-ther than this deep."  He holds his hands maybe 5 centimeters apart.  "Iss pret-ty to look at, hwen sun go down.  An' -- /kya/!!"
He instinctively flinches away from Heather's waterbomb, even if it's not aimed at him.  "/c'Rhys'yw/...."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie will glow orange for a brief moment before the water hits him more out of instinct than anything. The water is not a real attack and while the blast field may blunt it some, he still gets soaked. He reaches behind him and pulls his wet ribs out looking at the dead panned, and then looks over to Kian "You may want to get behind something." He gives the bird man warning and looks at the pool and judges it's depth and then he is blasting up into the air above it. So hat meteor is saw again, but going upward.

Heather Danielson has posed:
"Did you hear what I said about precision?!" Heather calls out. "No splashin' Kian! That's against the rules!" But.. Heather herself just ducks under the surface. Far easier to avoid being splashed when you are UNDER the water.

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Paige watches as her brother gets up, gets himself aloft and careens towards the pool. She quickly swims to the edge and yells, "GRAB SOMETHING!" and clings for her dear life. Clearly this isn't the first time she's experienced Cannonballs cannonball.

Kian has posed:
"/Ki-ái/!"  Kían takes the warning, but not the advice.  He doesn't get behind cover, he gets off the roof entirely, at enough of a distance that if he gets splashed all the way out here there's going to be structural damage done to the Tower.
So, the rules will be followed.  Kían is too far away to be splashed.
    He hopes.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie does not blast into the pool no it would be to easy to accidently blast through the pool. He gets himself up to a silly height but not one he will break anything and then cuts the blast field and lets gravity take it's force "Cannonbal." He will hollar out as the young man lets gravity take over.

Heather Danielson has posed:
Under the water, Heather just uses her arms to hold herself under. When the splash hits.. she gets shoved about and slams into the side of the pool. This knocks air out of her lungs.. and she surges to the surface which is a lot lower. Her eyes rove about the rooftop, at her bluetooth speaker that is now wet. "Do you remember what I Said about precision?" She asks as she folds her arms under her bustline.... and lifts a brow.

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Paige is lifted up and into the edge of the pool, having been nearly thrown up and over. "Ow," she says, gasping and laughing. She lifts herself up and over to sit on the edge. "Sam likes showing off for the girls," she teases.

Kian has posed:
Once the flood waters have receded, Kian spirals back down to the rooftop.  He takes a moment to find, and then collect his sandals -- one got washed inconveniently under a deck chair, and both are soaked.  Well, they'll dry.  "Iss im-p'res-sive," he comments dryly (no pun intended), "or iss s'cary.  I am not sure which it is more...."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over to Heather and says "You soaked my ribs, shock and awe was called for in retaliation not percision." He smirks a bit, and will whipe his blond hair out of his eyes and moves to lift himself to the side of the pool, pulling his shirt off and tossing it to one of the chairs so it can dry and starts removing his work boots and socks. He has a few scars but you can tell he has ben doing the hero and training thing for years.

Heather Danielson has posed:
"Sure, but.. did you have to soak -all- of the ribs?" asks Heather as she shoves through the rest of the water and levers herself up and out. She approaches the grill which is... well wet. Then looks to Sam. "Seriously, I think you got the whole roof."

Heather Danielson has posed:
In frustration, but also for fun.. Heather tries to keep the angry look on her face. But she fails. Her mouth quirks up in a grin as she turns and pretends to be angry as she says, "Just for that mister, you're going down!" And then a lunging tackle is made that uses her strength to lift, but not to harm Sam.. but she -does- leap into the pool, tackling him into the water to begin more shenanigans. Shenanigans that won't stop any time soon.
