Cast of Characters: Jean Grey, Piotr Rasputin

Jean Grey has posed:
Not that there's a lot of classes happening now, with the summer... but the teachers do still need a place to hide from students on occasion. Thus, the Teacher's Lounge. Currently, the only occupant is Jean, the redhead sitting on a couch that looks out towards the balcony. She hmms, sipping a cup of coffee as she looks a bit... pensive, about something. Not that it's been an entirely unknown feeling for her the past few months.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr is another teacher seeking refuge from the children who were staying over the summer. He is in his usuall off-duty uniform, t-shirt and cargo shorts, both showing some paint stains in various colors. He whistles to himself as he goes to the balcony and is startled, giving a jump, as he realizes Jean is there, as the Russian figured he would be the only one here. "Oh, sorry Jean. I did not see you there, though it is timely, as I had heard a rumor recently of some... organization."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean smiles, "Hey Piotr... please, sit down." She taps the spot on the couch next to her, tilting her head as she sees the T-shirt and shorts, stained with paint, "What're you painting?" Sure, she could just /look/, but that's rude. And besides, it's Piotr.

At the mention of 'organization', she gets a bit of a cryptic look, "And you heard some rumors, hmmm? What about, exactly?" She smiles a little, adopting her best enigmatic feline look as she looks curiously at Piotr, waiting for a bit of clarification.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
"Was going to get started on a landscape, the extra hours of sunlight make it a lot easier, also fewer students with questions about Russian literature," Piotr says with a chuckles and takes the offered seat, "Thank you."

Piotr raises a brow at the response to his own question, "That you were gathering others for a team of sorts, and I will I am a bit curious as to what is afoot, especially given recent events with Sinister and Mutant Town." Piotr returns his eyebrow to its usual place, but keeps his tone cordial, "Mostly I was curious about the aims, and depending on that, what is required."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean sighs a bit, looking out at the balcony, "A landscape... that'd be nice to see." She smiles, sun glinting against her auburn hair as she has a bit of trouble looking Piotr in the eyes, for some reason.

"Well, you heard right. I'm looking at forming a team to be more... proactive, about dealing with threats. We're always reacting, Piotr. And how many people have suffered for it, in Genosha, or from Sinister, or now with Mutant Town?" She frowns, "We can't just keep showing up after the damage has been done."

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr Rasputin says, "It is, though not the same as the real thing, but better than a photograph, I believe," Piotr notes. He smiles and gives a nod, though a little concern goes into his voice, "This I do understand, though. Always a step behind," a sigh, "But my first question is how will we identify threats, and will it be under the aegis of our organization?" He then takes a few moments to ponder and says, "Will you all keep to our rules of engagement?""

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean hmms, looking a bit wistful at the thought of Piotr's painting the landscape, then the reality of what she's doing seems to sink in, and she glances over at Piotr, "Intelligence and monitoring, mostly, I've got some people that are interested that can definitely help with that. But as far as rules of engagement..." She pauses, taking a deep breath.

"There's some times that those rules might not apply. It would be nice if they always did, but when you have a clone of me out there, doing things that are, quite frankly, atrocities by any measure..." She trails off, as it's clear that there's really only one way to deal with that threat.

On the bright side, at least she doesn't look happy about that.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr listens quietly and thinks deeply. He waits for Jean to say everything, and then takes a moment longer to process before saying, "I understand the frustration. I do agree that intelligence and monitoring are needed, there is no question there. We cannot rely on others for that, if we can help it."

Another moment, "The clones are something that have been troubling me deeply. I am uncertain if they are people. If they are not people, then arguably there is no moral quandary in killing them, but if they are, then that is a problem." Piotr sighs, "That is what I have been wrestling with, recently, if they are people or not."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean looks at Piotr, her guard lowering a bit since, well... it's Piotr. "Piotr... that clone of mine. Imagine me, with all the things I can do, but without any hint of ethics, or morals. Doing whatever she wanted because she /could/. She mindwiped Roberto, she tortured Gabby, and did so much more to Hank and the others... and quite likely mentally coerced her own 'teammates' for her amusement." She pauses, then takes a deep shuddering breath.

"I don't like it, but someone... something like that? I think there's only one answer." She pauses, and looks over at Piotr, "Though, well, I appreciate you thinking about this too, and saying it." Her lips curve into a faint smile, though she still looks fairly troubled.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr nods, "It is something that I also have considered. Many of us are of immense power, some like yourself, my sister, and others defy even the laws of physics. That sort of power unbound by a code is... terrifying." He hangs his head for a moment, "Fighting the clones was something that certainly bothers me, as I do not know if I could raise my hand against any of you, but that is why I would take a very narrow view of if the clones are not people, lethal force might be merited; however, lethal force being used against people is something that bothers me." The Russian raises his head again, "It is a discussion that needs to be had, though I would ask you what the others think of this?"

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean nods, "I think the general consensus is that we don't like the thought of it, but if we have to do it..." She sighs, "So I think the thing is we should try to avoid being placed into a position where we /have/ to do it. Can we be this proactive against threats and still keep to the values we should have?" She gives Piotr a look at that, "Is that possible?"

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr listens, and then nods, "I do take some comfort in that others at least are uncomfortable with it. As opposed to going for guns at the drop of a hat," he gestures towards the main hall, "I do prefer the idea of playing smarter to avoid needing desperate measures, which killing is in my book." He frowns, "But I do believe it is possible to stay to our beliefs and still be proactive. We take the high road, but we keep moving."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean hmms, "Well, I like that idea, if we can balance that somehow." She pauses, then looks over at Piotr, "Care to join in? We could definitely use you... and I could use your help so I don't lose my way." She chuckles softly, "Besides, who else is able to toss you at our opponents?" Her eyes sparkle a bit with amusement as she looks up at Piotr.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
"Da," Piotr says, "I will help. If for no other reason than to make sure you all stay out of trouble!" He gives a grin and a laugh at that, as well as at the throwing joke. "Next time, please not at Blob, that would have been... painful." The Russian chuckles and gives a wide grin, "But, da, how can I help?"

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean chuckles, "Just keep me honest, Piotr. Though I promise, no more throwing you at Blob." She smiles a bit, "It's definitely good to have you along, I honestly... well, I don't like thinking I was going it alone. I mean, there are quite a few with us, but I feel better with having more X-Men along."

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
"That I can do," Piotr nods, "Though I would prefer to keep the children out of it, the alumni are fine, I just am uncertain if the little ones are ready for field work." He shakes his head, "But no matter, who else has signed on? What does Scott think?"

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean hmms, "Right now, Illyana was in, as is James Proudstar. Rahne is interested, as is Julio. Also, Gabby wants in, and while she's pretty young... she's got more experience than most of the others, honestly. Domino and Deadpool are interested, and they have experience." She pauses, "There's also an Amazon that I know, from our mission in the Savage Land. Her name is Artemis, and... well, she has experience, and I trust her."

She then hmms quietly, "I... haven't exactly talked to Scott about this, yet. Considering his reactions to certain things, I haven't wanted to distract him with everything else going on."

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
"I remember Artemis, she was very useful," Piotr nods, "The rest of the group seems feasible, though you know my concerns about Gabby. I would rather her not be put in harm's way, even if she is nigh impossible to kill. I would rather not risk that again," he frowns remembering when he learned first hand about her ability, "But it is not my call and I concede that point."

Piotr nods as Scott is mentioned, "Well, this is why you do ground work, see if it is feasible, and then present it to him. He is sensible and perhaps a more proactive team is what we need. Any others you would recommend mentioning this to?"

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean considers, "Of the top of my head, not really... I mean, I don't want to get too wide with this yet. And I don't want to take away too much from the X-Men for this. But well... Gabby has some things to work out, and I think this is a good way for her to do it. Especially since we'll have some adult supervision, with you around." She gives Piotr a sly wink at that, grinning up at him.

"And yes, I think Scott will come around, once we can prove the concept works and isn't too... morally compromised."

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr listens and nods, focused on the situation, "Maybe, maybe," he says as he thinks and then nods, though he does chuckle at the adult supervision, "It is scary when /I/ am the adult in the room." He affords a brief smile at this, "Perhaps my presence will help secure Scott's blessing."

Jean Grey has posed:
Piotr gets a wry look from Jean at that, "That's adorable that you think so, honestly... that's why I'm glad you're here. It's always a comfort to have you nearby." She grins a little, tilting her head over at Piotr with a curious expression. "I mean, your sister is impossible to get a read on, but you're the opposite of that. In a good way."

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
"Just being optimistic, the more full members advocating for this might help the cause," Piotr says and gives a nod, "Da. I think expression is 'I wear my heart on my shirt'." He is dead certain this is the expression. "Different lives growing up, each went our own ways and are all different."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean chuckles, and looks a bit guilty for a second, then says, "Heart on your sleeve, but yes, you got the right idea. And you do." She hmms, "It's rather refreshing, honestly. Especially for a telepath." She leans back into the sofa, seeming to relax a little in Piotr's presence, much like a cat might when there's a proximate sunbeam.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr's cheeks redden a little in embarrassment, "Oh. I will make a note of that for later. My apologies," he mutters a little bit in Russian. He then looks back up and takes note of the expression, "Is something wrong?" He frowns, "Hopefully my English is not /that/ terrible, or at least I don't think it is?" He shrugs, "Idioms are the worst."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean glances slightly over at Piotr, "No, nothing's wrong at all, Piotr." She grins slightly, "Quite the opposite. I just felt bad for correcting you, is all. You're just so... earnest. Like I said, it's refreshing." And the smile grows a little bit, as she looks relaxed. Perfectly relaxed, though she does keep Piotr in her peripheral vision.

"So, what exactly is the landscape you're doing again?"

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr sighs, "Thank you. English is still strange at times, I can read it, speak it, think it, but at times I fall flat on my face." He looks over to the balcony and points, "Out there, something different, perhaps hang it in the hallway to show the students, as they will likely never get the view. May do another one in the fall, in the winter, and then next spring." He keeps his gaze focused that way.

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean smiles a bit, "Yeah... that sounds nice, Piotr." She chuckles, "The landscape, not falling on your face. Though don't worry, I'd always catch you before you hit." Absently, she does use her telepathy to make the seasons flicker slowly outside, at least to Piotr's perception and hers... so it rotates slowly through, much like a panorama as it echoes along with Piotr's description. Using his artistic perception to make something real... or rather, the illusion of reality

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
"This is true, it would be shame for floor to be broken," Piotr leans his head forward in a mock fall and says, "Crunch." The Russian watches as the seasons change, and blinks a dozen times or so as he takes more than a moment to figure out what is going on. "That..." He stops to think, "Was unexpected. It is amazing what you can do with your powers." He points out to the view and says with joy, "It will look beautiful on canvas, I believe."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean laughs softly, "Sorry, but the images are so vivid in your mind, Piotr. I didn't mean to intrude, but..." She glances up towards Piotr, and... well, she does place a hand on his arm, if he doesn't object, "I mean, sure my powers are amazing, but the beauty of that scene comes from you. I'm just projecting it. And... well, I can't wait to see it."

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr listens and looks back to Jean, "I take no offense at that," he gestures towards his head, "You did not cross any line, besides, it showed that it is certainly worth pursuing." He nods and warmly says, "Thank you."

Piotr looks over again at the view, "I will send you a print when it is finished, along with the other three. Not sure how I am going to arrange them, yet, but I have a few ideas." He then realizes Jean's hand is on his arm and he blinks, "Oh!" more in surprise than in any other emotion, he had been lost in thought for the last little bit.

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean blinks, blushing a bit, "Oh! Er, sorry, I mean..." She looks a bit sheepish at that, starting to pull her hand back as she looks up at Piotr, "Well, I'm not sorry for that, but I didn't want to make you uncomfortable..." She trails off, her cheeks almost turning as red as her hair. But not quite.

Pretty close, though.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
"Oh," Piotr says and nods his head, "No offense taken. Just unexpected. I was busy thinking about the view out there and the illusion you were projecting." He then notices the redness and blinks a bit, "Are you all right, Jean?" He frowns.

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean mmms, "Ah, well, I'm fine. I mean, you're here, so..." She still is blushing a bit, and she coughs, "Um, Piotr, I was wondering... did you have any plans tomorrow night? Just with, well, everything going on. Well, would you like to go off campus for dinner?" She manages to control her blushing, eventually, as she looks at him, asking the question.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr nods and listens and then the question is asked. He barely thinks for a moment before he says, "That sounds like a good idea, do you have a preference for where or what time? Just somewhere that does not have too much spice." The Russian rubs his chin in thought.

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean smiles, "Well, there's a nice Italian place in Salem Center. We could go there, if you like? I mean, I feel like we /live/ at Harry's sometimes, so I think stretching our horizons is a good thing." She chuckles, then shrugs a little bit, "I mean, garlic isn't spicy, right?"

While it isn't true that Jean's eaten any stars... if they were made of coffee and/or garlic, she might have tried it by now. Phoenix or no Phoenix.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
"Italian is always good, plenty of good options," Piotr notes with a nod, "And, da, Harry's may as well be a part of campus." He chuckles at the garlic, "Nyet, garlic is perfectly acceptable. It is good flavor." He gives a rare grin, breaking the old Russian social norm.

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean mmms, "Well, meet me in the lobby tomorrow evening, say six? We can head out from there." She smiles and places her hand on Piotr's arm again, a gentle touch as she says, "And you should smile more, it's quite lovely, Piotr." With that, she rises to her feet, making her way out of the lounge.

And she does look back towards Piotr a bit, taking in the image of him sitting there as she departs. Her lips curve into a faint smile as she heads back to work, having something to look forward to at least.

Piotr Rasputin has posed:
Piotr nods, "Da, that works. I will see you there." He then gives another brief smile and says, "In Russia we do not smile often, it... is frowned upon." An unintentional pun, but it happens. The Russian then gives another nod as Jean departs and he returns to his painting.
