Who is Nadia Pym
Date of Scene: 02 July 2020
Location: Empty Room - Avengers Mansion
Synopsis: Pym's daughter is lucky we don't sanction asylum seekers
Cast of Characters: Bobbi Morse, Natasha Romanoff, Nadia Pym-van Dyne

Bobbi Morse has posed:
Agent Bobbi Morse is wearing suit pants and jacket. She has a brief case with her and looks to Agent Romanoff. "Thank you. Are you going to be okay talking about .. these things? She seems very chipper and not entirely socially aware of how much some subjects might hurt other people. If you need to leave and catch a breath at any time, do so. But, I really appreciate your insights on this one." Nadia is right behind that door and Bobbi is ready to play a rather unique game of chess. To trust the Red Room agent or not.. they did it for Natasha because of Clint's recommendation and Bobbi has certainly never regretted it.

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
"I'm fine." Natasha answers with a certain frosty distance in her voice, staring straight ahead at nothing in particular. Truthfully she's not entirely confidant in her ability to handle this objectively. She's not stupid, she didn't think she'd never have to worry about the Red Room ever again; yet after all this time and distance the notion doesn't seem any easier. Part of her feels like she never left.
And as far as reccomendations, go... well. She's grateful to Clint. But in her personal estimation, it was extremely reckless of him not to just shoot her in the head. It worked out. But it wasn't smart, knowing what she knows about herself and that place.
    But that's how it goes.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
After the recent adventure in the ruins of Mutant Town, Nadia finds herself back in a room in the Avengers Mansion for the time being. To say it was difficult to pry her away from the epic scientific challenge before her and helping those people in need would be a vast understatement. Left unchecked it is highly questionable if she would have even taken time to eat or sleep. In the end though after ferrying food and supplies on to the tiny bus for those trapped there she finally relented to being escorted back for the time being, though it was still a half-dragged situation.

In the present on the other side of the door, Nadia is laying on her bed passing the time by reading a book. Something called "Atomic Scaler Distances and Applied Macroscopic Theory", whatever that means, who knows where she managed to get it from either. She's also occasionally scrawling notes into a notebook sitting next to her. You can take the girl out of the lab, but not the desire to solve scientific problems out of the girl.

Bobbi Morse has posed:
"Jarvis open the door thank you," Bobbi says to the mansion. The door opens and Bobbi enters. She smiles to Nadia and places the briefcase down on the table. A thumb print later and it clicks open. From it she takes out a small aerial in a glass vial which she places on the desk. She also takes out a swab from the brief case but the remainder of its contents remain concealed for now.

Telling someone trained to be paranoid that 'I don't play mind games' is one of the greatest mind games of all. Some people are so far gone they can't tell friend from foe. Bobbi offers her hand to Nadia, "Hello again Nadia. I trust you had a fun trip out to the abduction site." She chooses her words very carefully, making judgements based on the reactions she gets. This is not the first time she's had to evaluate a potential enemy agent.. it is however the first time she's had to do it with someone from the Red Room.

"And Agent Romanoff, who I trust you know. This is a formal interview for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division." She's doing things by the book, because it matters for Nadia's future that she gets this right, whether she is truly friend or foe. Having Natasha be the skeptic helps a lot.

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha says nothing as she enters the room, or when she's re-introduced. She merely folds her arms and stands a foot or so away from the table, icey blue eyes locked on Nadia's face. Skeptic is right. This isn't exactly a good-cop bad-cop situation, but... suffice to say, Natasha is more than ready to kill this young lady at a moment's notice. And if Nadia's heard anything about her - or at least the program that made her - back home, she likely knows it.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia dogears the corner of the page she was reading and snaps the book closed when the door opens followed by the entrance of Bobbi and Natasha. She makes a few more notes in the notebook to make sure she doesn't forget and then it too is set aside, "I want to go back, I need to help them." Are the first words out of her mouth. The earnestness is gone but some of the cheeriness seems to have been replaced by a burning drive to tackle the scientific problems before her concerning the bus. When it becomes apparent this is a by the book interview, not that she really expected otherwise, Nadia just nods shaking the offered. "I understand."

She is definitely aware of the Black Widow's presence, how could she not be, and yet solving the affliction of the micro bus seems to be occupying her mind more than her own safety for the moment.

Bobbi Morse has posed:
Bobbi nods her head, "Noted. I too am eager to help those people on the bus. Not the least of which is - if we can restore them, we might be able to counter one of Brainiac's weapons." The explanation by Powergirl runs through her head for a moment about Brainiac's supposed origin and she frowns just a touch. It was one of the more chilling warnings of technology gone awry, something humanity is struggling with right now.

"Say Aah, I need to get a sample to test your familiar links," she smiles and holds out the swab to take a sample from her. "Why don't you tell me from the top about your connection to Dr. Pym, and about your mother if you will Nadia." She lifts a finger up and points to the aerial in the glass vial, "And if you will, tell me what that is and what it is doing."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia sits on the edge of the bed and opens her mouth wide so Bobbi can take her sample, the sooner she convinces the agents she is telling the truth the sooner she can hopefully get back to the things she really wants to be doing.

It's a bit like being at the Dentist really as she attempts to recount the information Bobbi asked for while a swab is poking the back of her throat.

"I am his daughter by his first wife Maria Trovaya. She was a political refugee from Hungary but insisted that they should go there on their honeymoon anyway against Hank's protests. There she was abducted by agents of Department X. Hank didn't know she was pregnant at the time, he couldn't have known or I'm sure he would have come for me." There is an earnest fragile emotion as she says that, "She gave birth to me and died not long after, so I never really got to know her outside of pictures. When I was old enough, a man with a red star on his metal arm brought me to the Red Room training facilites from where I was kept before. As I told you before there they began training me to be a weapon, like so many other little girls. They knew the truth about who I was though and when I began showing signs of my father's brilliance they made sure I knew exactly who he was because they wanted me to reverse engineer his research for them. To that end I was also conditioned less than others because they didn't want to do anything to my mind that might interfere with my ability to achieve my father's insights. Of course that backfired spectacularly for them, since I did and then I used that technology to escape."

Once she is finished recounting her story yet again, she peers at the aerial in the test tube, "It is a multispectral exotic particle detector for things like tachyons, n-dimensional gamma ray composites, and even my father's Pym Particles. I've used one before."

Bobbi Morse has posed:
Bobbi puts the sample in to the machine in the briefcase. Connecting via Jarvis back to SHIELD through ultra secure connection. The various samples of Hank Pym they have as a consultant to SHIELD and related organisations plot a steady history of his identity, making it near impossible to pretend to be him. Not even cloning technology can get it right enough to the best of anyones knowledge.

The machine starts to bring up green ticks against the Hank Pym familial in the first degree for each of the samples. The machine also brings up a warning indicating a variant of the Super Soldier Serum in Nadia.

The detector shows NEGATIVE for tachyons but POSITIVE for Pym Particles.

At the very least they can tell the deputy director she hasn't been time traveling. It's time for the harder questions, she supposes. "Tell me about your time in the Red Room, and how your time there changed when they moved you over to science education."

Bobbi doesn't look at Natasha, but that blade like presence doesn't put her at ease, it keeps her slightly on edge.. and now they're talking about the Red Room, the one topic that prevented her from bringing any other agent along to this interview. Even at her level it's need to know and she simply didn't need to know until Nadia turned up.

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha's expression is a blank slate, her voice devoid of emotion or inflection as she notes, "They just... told you everything about yourself, did they?" The incredulity is implied, though not audible evident in her voice.
Though Bobbi's still running the official questioning right now. The topic is not her favorite. Awkwardly it's a topic she has yet to give full complete disclosure on, though she claims she has. There's a number of ways this could go badly, but for now her top priority is sussing out any obvious falsehoods from their young guest.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia takes a breath. She turns her head to look in Natasha's direction for a moment, "They certainly could have lied but there is plenty of evidence that they didn't. A mind capable of rivaling my father's is not something they could just create nor something that would have been readily apparent to them without knowing previously to be looking. It's not like I suddenly started spouting physics equations during hand to hand training one day. I am honestly far more concerned about being in the same room with someone who actually successfully graduated and earned the title of a Black Widow. Which is no small feat. If it is all true, you are one of the most dangerous people alive and not someone the Red Room would ever willingly let go." There is a definite wariness there. Her mind has been pulled back from the scientific problems to laser focus on this interview for a moment.

"In the beginning it was combat training," she looks back to Bobbi, answering her question now, "Hand to hand, weapons, a Black Widow Ops candidate is required to train no less than seven different martial arts to mastery. From the time I could walk I was learning to fight and to sneak, espionage is what the Red Room does afterall. I only mastered five though. Before I could get to the more advanced infiltration classes I was transferred to the Science Class. It was a new program they were creating to enhance their agents even further to move beyond just simple espionage to the power to counter super heroes head on and even topple enemy nations through super science. I was bombarded with research and theories from all kinds of sources, the US government, AIM, HYDRA, even SHIELD. They stole all kinds of top secret research to try and get myself and other gifted children they managed to abduct to reverse engineer it for them. They gave me any equipment I wanted and let me pursue any of my own theories and ideas resulting from reading all of that material, too. But, in particular, as I said they wanted me to try and figure out my father's research that none of the others had been able to crack, it was just too far beyond them." There is no arrogance there, just a matter of fact assessment, "I did what they couldn't but I wasn't going to let them have my father's breakthroughs, so I took everything and escaped."

Bobbi Morse has posed:
Bobbi listens for a while and asks, "If you met Hank Pym, what then? are you hoping to forge a happy family unit. Is the Red Room sending agents after you to bring you back? Do you seek asylum? Where do you see this going Nadia.. you've come a long way you must have put some thought in to this."

Her eyes turn to Natasha now and she raises an eyebrow. The breadth of performance between Mutant Town's excitement. The coy excitement of her arriving and today's mixture of factual and impassioned responses has her curious. This is the oddest strategy she's ever seen an enemy agent take to get close to a target.

"What guarantees are we to have that you aren't a full graduate of the Red Room, here to assassinate someone, gain our trust, steal our secrets." It's not said in an accusing tone, more another line of enquiry. How she accepts the question and responds to it is just as important as the words she chooses.

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha's eyes seem imperceptly harder for a moment as Nadia speaks, softly retorting, "I'm more concerned with a surviving Red Room candidate marching right up to a Black Widow's door. That's a pretty remarkable coincidence." summing up a lot of her doubts in as many words.
Granted, she left the Red Room enough reason to think she was dead, or perhaps abducted, but Nadia doesn't need to know that. Lord knows she's been involved with enough high profile incidents before getting Tony's mask that her old alma matter possibly could have sussed out her current status.
Natasha's composure is generally legendary, but there is a deep dark well of anger and resentment that this whole situation keeps tossing stones into.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia shrugs lightly, "Honestly, if I knew you were here I wouldn't have showed up." she says simply, "I don't want to trust you anymore than you probably trust me and for all of the same reasons. But if I can't move beyond that then it's like I never escaped. We can't be prisoners of the Red Room forever."

She listens to Bobbi's new line of questioning, "Yes, I came looking for my father because he is my father and I want to be his daughter, I want to be worthy of the legacy I've inherited from him. I want to give him a hug. That's why I traveled halfway around the world seeking him. I would be very surprised if there are not agents after me. I do seek Ausylum, I want to be a Yankiedoodle like my father." She must have learned that word /somewhere/ if not how to use it correctly or that nobody really ever says that. "I want to be like you Dr. Barbara Morse. It took me awhile to figure it out since you were never Bobbi on your research papers or expedition reports. You have been my hero ever since I read about your work on Project: Goliath and recreating the Super Soldier Serum, your adventures in the Savage Land. I thought to myself that is who I want to be. My father is great, a brilliant scientist, but you, you're a Lady Science ADVENTURER and one of my biggest inspirations that kept me going during my darkest times in the Red Room. That's what I want, to be my father's daughter, to be a Lady Scientist Adventurer, and to /help/ people like the people still trapped on that bus with this mind of mine so then maybe I can be worthy of being my father's daughter and he'll love me." It is a wild ride of emotions, at times empassioned, earnest, and even almost pleading. This is a girl who has never had a father, who has never really known love, but whose head has been filled with ideals, the ideal of a man, the ideal of a role model, and she clings to them fiercely.

In the end she sighs, "When dealing with the Red Room there are no guarantees, there aren't, if I said otherwise I'd be lying. I can only ask you to take a chance and let me help people. The rest is up to you."

Bobbi Morse has posed:
Bobbi lifts an eyebrow at the mention of her name expanded out like that. It goes on cheques, on official documents and on her scientific research papers. No one at SHIELD would ever used it, she hates it. The look on her face makes that quite clear as she clears her throat, "Please, Bobbi. I know usually that is short for Roberta, which is even worse than Barbara. Bobbi is a-okay just fine thank you very much."

At the mention of her highly classified papers she shifts in her seat just a little bit uncomfortably. "Lady Science Adventurer?," she asks with amusement. Thoughts of the Savage Land disturb her train of thought for a moment and she puts the detector back in the suitcase, locking it shut. She half stands and then peers at Nadia, then stands the whole way. "I will let my superiors know of your request for asylum Nadia. As for Dr. Pym, well that will be his decision when we get ahold of him." She looks to Natasha and then says to Nadia, "I will get back to you soon with more information Nadia. Please enjoy the hospitality of the Avengers until then." She stands and Jarvis opens the door as she walks out of the room.

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha says nothing more inside the room, her gaze lingering on Nadia only a moment before she turns to leave the room with Bobbi with no parting words.
Outside the room, once the door is shut and they're a few steps away, Natasha just says: "We should shoot her."

Bobbi Morse has posed:
Bobbi walks quietly down the hallway until Natasha speaks. She stops and turns to her. "Like we should have shot you?," she asks. Her expression slightly perplexed by Nadia. She is clearly of Pym stock, definitely has had access to lots of classified materials and probably was trained in the Red Room. There's a lot about her story that seems plausible. That's what bothers Bobbi. When she goes under cover, she uses as much of the truth as possible to conceal what it is she's really doing, who she really is. But, even the greatest actors in the world suffer their lies against expert gaze and artificial intelligent anaylsis. The super computers back at SHIELD are already processing the footage.

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha doesn't miss a beat, "Exactly like you should have shot me. Nice people don't walk out of the Red Room. Sweethearts break early. She shows up with a sad story and hero-worship for multiple Avengers and Shield assets?"
    Clearly she is... incredulous.

Bobbi Morse has posed:
Bobbi knew this conversation was coming. She is well aware the other Avengers will be listening and many of them cringing. "And yet Clint still stuck his neck out for you." Clint: her friend really put himself out there for Natasha, so much so he ended up being put on a 'may be he's compromised' list. "I'm sure the analysis team will determine she believes every word she said. That doesn't mean she isn't dangerous, I agree with you there. It also doesn't mean she's not genuine. My goodness the girl has a bigger ego than Simmons did at her age. She could be the stereotypical super scientist psychopath - all the more reason to keep her under a watchful eye. Not to mention, while Hank is ...who knows where... we may need her help."

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha looks at Bobbi very coldly for a very long moment as Clint is brought up - that matter being... particularly personal for her - and then looks away as Bobbi continues, stepping away, folding her arms and putting her back to Bobbi. She's going to have to do something about the security here; the fewer people who know to be curious about her and the Red Room the better... but that ship may have already sailed. It was a good ride, having everyone think she was just a Russian defector.
"I don't want her to touch anything. I don't want her to talk to anyone. If it's not related to fixing this problem, I don't want her to have so much as a wheel to run on."
Which is as close as Natasha is comfortable relenting that she won't shoot the kid.

Bobbi Morse has posed:
Bobbi watches her step away and is surprised she didn't put a hole in a wall. Bobbi is not one to push buttons unless she needs to. She swaps hands with the briefcase and stays silent for a moment. "It'll be in the first paragraph of my report I promise."

She starts to walk again. This isn't her home and it isn't her place of work. The Avengers are given their space because that's the way Fury wanted it. "I'll find some place to put her outside of this mansion too." Though, in the back of her mind she's wondering if Hill will assign Natasha to the kid just because of the animosity and distrust. That might not go down well.

"I'll be asking Coulson to move the bus project to The Hangar at JFK. It has the space and there's nothing classified there that she'll set her eyes and ears on. Any further recommendations are appreciated." The last thing Natasha wants to hear is "you did a good job in there," even if Bobbi would mean it sincerely. "I'll.. see you around."

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Walls are being punched internally, and it's hard to get contractors to fix those. But Natasha deals. That's what she does. What she always appears to do, anyway. "... Right." Is her only acknowledgement of Bobbi's plans, meeting them without protest, and unable to muster enthusiasm; a pattern that emerges when Bobbi's farewell is met with a soft, "... Right."
Natasha Romanoff is not known for all friends she makes. In fairness, when she's really super nice and sweet to somebody, it usually means she's going to kill them.
