Date of Scene: 03 July 2020
Location: Penthouse - Kord Co
Synopsis: Elliot has revealed her secret to Ted and been hired t o work at Kord Co. Hijinx await!
Cast of Characters: Ted Kord, Elliot Hayes

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord has tumbled out of bed and gotten dressed quickly in Kord Co casual: cargo pants and a polo shirt. One of the potential new hires has... potential. He makes it his business to meet such people after initial screening. Actually it is his business. He prides himself on promoting from within and rewarding longevity and loyalty. With all that he would rather be rewarding bright talented people for loyalty and longevity. He walks over to his desk and looks at the file spread across his desk. "Elliot Hayes... well let's just give Hayes access to the penthouse elevator and find out what he's about." He sips from a big mug of coffee. A drone flies over and he instructs it. "Identify Elliot Hayes and escort directly to me. Perform standard security sweep. And one of you, get me some waffles. Toast them this time, apply peanut butter and raisins." He settles down to check his email. Kaburagi-sama, flag for later. Exiled Wakandan Prince needs $100K will make me a million dollars. Flag it for later, it's fun to mess with those guys. Men, don't let this happen to you-delete!

Elliot Hayes has posed:
Elliot arrives dressed in interview casual. She's actually done her research on Kord Co- the corporate culture, how people dress at the company, the names of corporate officers--- and forgotten literally everything on her way out the door. She's wearing a short-sleeved, modest dress in a dark blue that sets off her eyes and matches her hair, right at the moment when she stumbles out the door with her messenger bag over her shoulder and a toothbrush sticking out of her mouth because she's ten minutes late getting out onto the road. Still, she's managed to put it away, check the light makeup she's wearing (to hide her freckles and the odd blemish), and even take a deep breath by the time she reaches Kord Co itself.

Elliot presents herself at the receptionist's desk with a beaming smile to exactly... No reception. "Do you have an appointment?"

"Yes."

"With whom? I- err, it's Mr. ..."

"Ma'am, I'm afraid you need to have an appointment. If you have business please wait over there. Your party will collect you shortly. Thank you." They return to their call.

Elliot retreats to the nearby chairs and takes a moment to glance around. There's a drone puttering down to the lobby that immediately attracts those green eyes. She eyes it for a second.

///Instructions: Find Mr. Elliot Hayes.///

///Hi! I'm Elliot Hayes.///

///Identification parameters not met.///

"...Oh, good grief." A few moments later an annoyed and somewhat shellshocked Elliot has convinced the drones retrieving her of her identity, and is plastering on a bright smile as she steps out of the Penthouse elevator. She blinks profusely as she slowly scans her surroundings over, adjusting her bag with a shrug.

The Penthouse. Really?

Ted Kord has posed:
The penthouse, really. A small tv monitor in the elevator plays current news. No elevator music here. The doors open with a chime and the drone standing in front of Elliot floats out and to the side. Mr. Kord is right there, ready to slip the grip, business smile in place... which slowly sags for a long moment before he turns to the drone and then back at Elliot.

"I'm terribly sorry young lady. Excuse me just a moment. Hey, Bobo... this is a girl!" He sweeps his arms vertically taking in her height easily. "A very pretty and well dressed one at that! I programmed you guys for identifying such things. What gives? Go find ELLIOT Hayes. Hint, he is likely wearing trousers."

Ted Kord turns to Elliot and the smile is genuine. "I'mTed Kord. I'm sorry they bothered you! Where were you intending to go? I'll get you an escort." He glares back at the drone which... isn't leaving to comply, just sort of pointing at Elliot like a setter.?

Elliot Hayes has posed:
Elliot's expression goes from shellshocked to stunned. She is starign openly at Mr. Kord for a few long seconds in a manner that suggests his evaluation of her situation must be accurate. Right? The poor thing looks like she's wondered into the wrong world and the way she fidgets slightly as she corrects her skirt can't help but lend some credence to that perception.

Finally, the young woman clears her throat. Good. She's going to answer the businessman's question at long last and depart his penthouse. Then she pauses and states in a voice that cracks slightly before strengthening, "...Elliot Melissa Hayes, sir. I had an interview at 1 O'Clock? I'm sorry I'm late, your drone didn't- err, recognize me. Right away." She offers a weak but somehow incandescent smile that shows off her perfect teeth.

"Am I too late for my appointment...?"

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord regards his drone while mentally kicking himself. An unethical lawyer could have a field day right here, right now. "Go away", he tells it. It does. He turns back to Elliot and starts again, "Please, come in Ms. Hayes. Don't worry about the time... this is New York. These things happen. Please come in." He holds the elevator door for her and gestures to the living area. Elliot Hayes is a name for a 6 foot 4 private eye... not a tiny blonde, he thinks. "I'm sorry for the confusion. Please sit down. I'd just like to ask you a few questions... your background is very impressive." Did that come out right? He was sort of letting her walk ahead of... no it looks fine... that is there's no reaction. OKay now he's sounding stupid to himself. He sits down at his desk facing a modular sofa.

Elliot Hayes has posed:
"Oh, it's fine. I had the same problem in high school, you know? My parents weren't big on... Naming conventions. I love your drone by the way. Its name is Bobo?" Elliot has a slightly lopsided smile wherein she wrinkles her nose very slightly and her whole face lights up. She makes her way over to the couch and slides easily into a seat, letting her messenger bag drop gently to the floor beside her. She folds her hands into her lap and takes a deep breath in a way which might slightly stress the fact she's *not* a 6'4" male detective from a hard-boiled detective film. If the dress didn't already give it away.

"Okay! Questions. Yes. I mean... Absolutely. Go ahead. Ask me anything." Elliot nods once, blonde tresses bouncing slightly with the motion. "That's why I'm here, right?"

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord grabs a stack of index cards. "Okay... you are a professional criminal in Gotham City... which supervillain do you want to work for, i.e. Joker, Penguin, Riddler... like that? Theme criminals! And why?"

Elliot Hayes has posed:
"...What?" Elliot blinks a few times slowly but then she gives a nod. "I would probably pick----" SHe pauses for a second, cocking her head lsightly to the left. Well, the Joker is too- um, crazy. He'd probably throw me off a roof. You know who I always thought was kind cool? Date Dude, err.. I mean. Time of the month---" Elliot glances around and hten her gaze comes to rest on Ted's desk and she pauses for a second. A snap follows. "Calendar Man. Weird schemes based on dates and times? Gives me a real Carmen Sandiego vibe like when I was a kid, right? I am really good at planning things out and schedules. I think we'd really mesh and I'd never have to be late or anything ever again either. Which--- is probably a good thing given what happened today, right?"

here's another wrys mile but Elliot bounces slightly. Clearly, that gaffe hasn't been enough to dampen the blonde's spirits. "I mean, he does plenty of stuff I wouldn't want to be in on but, you know. I'm a villain, right?"

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord chuckles. "I went with Penguin. Plenty of victimless crime. I heard he's a good boss considering... but there is a dress code. Still..." He laughs again at the bouncy smiling reaction. Not to mention the names for Calendar Man. "All right Elliot I... excuse me a second..." He answers a call on his monitor screen and after a second turns the camera away from Elliot. "Hello Booster... I'm interviewing a new hire, make it... the name is Elliot... of about six foot six, heavy set. Yes I think he did play football... linebacker... yeah, bigger guns than yours." To Elliot, he flexes his arm and 'makes a bicep' out of range of the pick up and gives her a thumbs up. "All right... not to worry I think I can deal with this bruiser."

He ends the call before breaking with a "Bwahaha! Sorry, but trust me... it was in your best interests. That was Booster Gold. Okay Elliot... do you have any problems working for a superhero, or with superheroes, metahumans or Mutants? Kord Co may find it the target if supervillains, I am a costumed cut up and Booster Gold is a VP."

Elliot Hayes has posed:
Elliot nods along eagerly while Ted is on the phone with Booster. She responds by flexing- and showing off that her physique is actually more otned than the man might expect. Clearly, this girl works out a bit in her spare time. None of it makes up for her sheer lack of mass. Hundred or a hundred and ten pounds, soaking wet. And that's because she's been building a bit of body mass at the gym. When the talk turns to superheroes, however, Elliot sobers up slightly.

"Actually, that's... part of what I wanted this job for if I'm being completely honest." The blonde pauses for a second, gauging Ted's reaction as she carefully picks out her word. "I can talk to machines. I mean, and they actually listen to me. Like... That's how I got Bobo to recognize me earlier. It's more like electrical signals like to tell me things, I guess? They're actually kind of chatty. Especially cellphones. BUt, um..." She pauses and smiles sheepishly.

"I haven't really told anyone in particular but- you're the Blue Beetle. Right? I thought it would be a good place for me to work ... with my powers. I'm not hiding them exactly, I just..." The girl shrugs slightly. "I don't know. It helps with my work anyway. If you want that sort of thing."

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord fixes Elliot with a stare, one eyebrow raised. Then without a word he takes a blue glove from his desk and dons it. there is a tiny click as he works some widget inside. He's still dead serious, holding up a finger to indicate she should remain quiet. The change from a few seconds ago is striking. Before her declaration he looked like he'd invite her to jump on the trampoline... and provide shorts most likely. He looks out the window expectantly.

Elliot Hayes has posed:
Elliot's gaze latches onto Ted's and sehe goe scompletely silent just as indicated. She rests her hands on her knees for now, her brow furrowing as she considers the expression o nher prospective employer's face. Slowly, those green eyes follow Teed's to the window and she stares through it silently. Expectantly. If... In a confused way. Expectant of what? That's the question. It's written plainly on the diminutive blonde's face.

Ted Kord has posed:
The electrical signals are there. Something complex and biiiiiig. There is very little noise accompanying the Bug's arrival. It is just there, hovering over the helipad outside, making nary a ripple on the nearby swimming pool. There's a quiet hum of electricity going about its jobs. This is contrast to the huge size, especially when you take the legs into account and you almost have to.

Ted smiles, obviously proud of his work.

Now he finally speaks as he pulls another glove and a blue hood with goggles fixed to it and begins to don them. "Tell the Bug to let down a line. Bug, listen to Elliot." That last is directed out the patio windows at the conveyance.

Elliot Hayes has posed:
Elliot arches a brow at Ted and then turns toward the Bug. She squints slightly and then rolls her eyes. "Yes, I get it. Ted is awesome. I know. Come on. Focus!" She seems to be chdiing theBug gently after some internal conversation, gesturing emphatically with her left hand to emphasize her words. Then the line drops, just like Ted asked. Elliot points at it in case Ted might have missed the action and then nods once, apparently satisfied. "And now we're pals. It's... Very eager. Like a giant puppy.. Beetle. Anyway. Your chariot awaits!"

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord smiles watching the line drop. "Thank you, Bug. Thank you Elliot. I think the interview is over. You can start Monday as an Assistant Electrical Engineer. Would you like a ride? I rarely get to sh the Bug off. I'm proud of it. Everyone else seems to be into exoskeletons and copying Tony Stark." he doesn't wait for an answer but opens the doors and steps out watching the new hire. The Linebacker. Pfft.

Elliot Hayes has posed:
"Sure, I'd love a ride. Thanks!" Elliot's somewhat pensive expression explodes into something bordering on exhilaration at the pronouncement. Finally. Elliot takes a deep breath and then starts toward the window with long, purposeful strides. At least as best she can manage. "I honestly can't wait to see more." Elliot will follow Ted without hesitation, a diminutive ray of unending sunshine.
