Brainiac hates it when a plan comes together
Date of Scene: 11 July 2020
Location: Common Room - Titan's Tower
Synopsis: The Titans celebrate victory with pizza, but console each other after a hard battle.
Cast of Characters: Kara Danvers, Donna Troy, Kate Bishop

Kara Danvers has posed:
The Ironman armor, empty of actual Tony Stark, gently lands Kara down on the roof. She is a bit wobbly still but enough time and distance has been had that she's capable of walking now. Kara rests a hand on the metal armor and says to Tony, "Thank you. I owe you one."

The armor flies away and Supergirl comes down the stairs. She enters the common room and pauses, lifts a finger, then stumble rushes to the bathroom. She slams the door behind her - it doesn't break. There is the sound of one Kara Zor'El being sick in the bathroom.

Donna Troy has posed:
The T-Jet's return is heralded by a ping of warnings on the roof. The retractable section lights up and a computerized voice, sounding distinctly like Marvin the Martian, says 'Oh dear me, the roof is about to retract. I do hope nobody is standing on it.'.

Not that the tower systems rely purely on that - sensors make sure that nobody is actually standing on it before the roof retracts. A few moments later the hum of powerful jets turns into a roar as the plane sweeps in over the Atlantic coast, and hovers a few moments on the downblast before settling neatly into the hangar. In the great main room below, a faint thump of the plane's landing gear coming down can be heard.

It's a few more minutes before there are signs of life from within the jet, but finally the doors open. Sam and Caitlin stay inside, sorting through the collection of gear captured from the heart of Brainiac's ship - some of the equipment needed to restore cities to full size, a bottled city or two of alien origin, perhaps. There's also a visitor or two who need to be seen to, security checked, etc. Donna comes down the ramp, and heads for the elevator shaft down into the main room, flicking her T-Com on.

"All Titans report. Any injuries need evac? Is everyone okay?" Her expression will remain neutral until she's had confirmation on that front - Brainiac has been defeated, the bottled cities and everything needed to restore them recovered, but it's not time to celebrate yet.

Kate Bishop has posed:
Kate, aka Hawkingbird, aka Better Hawkeye, aka Hawklass, etc. got a pick up from the streets of New York before the T-Jet returned to base. She was with some of the others helping save civilians and run interference while the heavier hitters were up in the guts of the ship where it was infinitely more dangerous for those who are soft and breakable. Also no Sam doesn't count since he has tons of armor right.

Kate will walk off after Donna looking pretty beat to shit despite not going up on the ship breaching portion of the invasion. Her sunglasses are cracked and useless but she kept them tucked up into her hair because she didn't ditch them and risk paparazzi snapping her photo with them off. Her armorweaved suit is slashed and her left arm is bloodied, though there is field bandage on it. She likely has bruises on her bruises under that armor, because none of this was direct hits, it was all concussive force and shrapnel.

Worst of all her bow is in her hand snapped in half, so rather, both halves of her bow is in her hand as she wearily follows Donna downstairs. "I .. .think I want to sleep for a week.. then maybe die.. oh and a shower.. I need a shower...." she squints "Is someone throwing up?" good ears and situational awareness Kate.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Hrrrlk. Supergirl hunches over the toilet again. This time, she flushes and sits on the floor for a few more moments. She would love to fly home, put on some PJs and binge watch the new She-Ra.. but alas, the safest place for her to be right now is with allies and friends. She opens the door and leans against the door frame, taps the T-comms in her ear and says, "Supergirl reporting in. Alive. At the tower."

She turns, slams the door shut and returns to the toilet bowl one more time. After washing her face with water and then drinking some water she emerges from the bathroom area looking peekish, like she's come down with a bad cold. Lethargic might be another word for it. She smiles though, "Hey. You look terrible, but in a good way, I mean not a good way, like you beat up some drones and walked away from it good way."

She flops down on a comfy couch and rests her hands on her tummy. This is not the look anyone here has ever seen on Supergirl before. It's not so much 'exhaustion' as it is very unwell.

Donna Troy has posed:
Donna stops Kate when she arrives, one hand resting gently on either shoulder. She looks the young woman over from top to toe, her eyes lingering critically on the field dressing for a moment. Finally satisfied, she carefully lifts Kate of the ground, enveloping her in a surprisingly gentle hug before putting her down again.

Reports start to flood in over the coms from the teams scattered around New York. There are injuries aplenty, mostly of the sort Kate has suffered. No casualties. Vorpal is unconscious after straining himself with an unorthodox use of his powers which disabled a small battalion of drones on the East Side, but he's already in the tower. Finally Donna can sigh a sigh of relief.

"Supergirl." Donna tilts her head, looking curiously at the Kryptonian. She raises her voice. "Marvin, main window polarization to minimum please." In response the glass of the giant window clears, and sunlight floods in. "You okay there?" she asks.

Donna sits down on the sofa herself, with a heavy oof. "I'm sorry you weren't assigned with a group of Titans, SG. I didn't like that, but it made sense. You've been with us only a short period of time and are the least trained to work with part of the team, but I knew you'd be okay with the JLA and Avengers guys. And we needed big guns on the frontal assault"

Kate Bishop has posed:
Kate really does appreciate the sentiment and how gentle Donna is being, though there is an intake of breath and a little hissssss from the young woman. Bruises on bruises under the armor there indeed. "Good to see you tooo.." she manages and even puts on a grin, that is more grin than grimace as she hugs Donna back and then is set down.

She continues to follow Donna and mutters "Supergirl is throwing up?" after hearing the checkin over the comm, then well she tracks the other young woman moving to a couch. Donna already asked the question though.

Gods Kate looks at the couch then at the suites then at the couch and back again. "Gods.. I can't even imagine what it was like on the frontal assault or in the ship... it was horrific down in New York..." she sounds a bit shell shocked really. Just kind of standing there staring at the kitchen vaguely now.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara looks to the window and lets out an audible sigh of relief as more sunlight flows in and rests on her skin. She looks a little burnt, a few cuts on her face even now that there's light on the situation. Ever so slowly, those burns are starting to heal up in the light.

She covers her mouth as she coughs a few times. "I'll.. be okay. Worst exposure to.. you know what.. I've ever had." You know what, Kryptonite. She knows Donna knows her cousin well but she's not sure who else knows about the Kryptonian weakness on Earth. "Let's just say Brainiac is a real sore loser."

She smiles again and sits up a touch more on the couch. As weak as a sick human for the moment, Kara is barely Super anything. "How'd your fight go? Mine was.. interesting. I did the thing, we did it in training. I drew all the drones to me. Well, so did Power Girl. It worked, we got the T-jet and Quinjet up to the ship. And then things got real."

Donna Troy has posed:
Everyone reacts in the first minutes after victory in a different way. There are those who need to take a few moments for it all to settle, and those who want to cheer straight away. The hubbub on the T-Com is now limited to those in the latter group, chattering excitedly. A few 'booyah's might be heard.

Donna's normally in the latter category, but this doesn't seem the right time. "Kate?" she says very gently. "Do you think you could go to the fridge and get some drinks for us? And one for yourself of course, I'm sure you need it." Give the shell-shocked girl something to do. "I'll send in an order for pizzas. Lots of pizzas. I'm sure we'll be seeing a bunch more people turn up hungry over the next hour or so."

Donna gives Kara a sympathetic smile. How much she knows about Kryptonian physiology and weaknesses will remain a mystery for now, because she's not going to bring up anything Kara doesn't want to discuss.

"Almost perfectly," She replies. "As soon as the shield were down we went in the back way. Cyborg's work on the Brianiac systems paid off in spades. We smashed up a bunch of drones, hacked the computers, downloaded the code used for regrowing kidnapped and miniaturized cities and grabbed the gear needed to do the job. Well, most of it. There were some of the X-Men there too and they portalled out various bits. We're going to have to co-ordinate with them to get everything restored."

She tilts her head to the side. "We also grabbed a bunch of other bits and pieces, including what seems to be several other cities, possibly with tiny alien people still living in them. We're going to have to think very carefully what to do about that."

Kate Bishop has posed:
Kate blinkss belatedly realizing Kara was commenting about her appearance most likely. She just shakes her head. She probably doesn't have a concussion right. Donna did give her a solid looking over. "The fight down below was crazy.. it was both better and way worse than the simulation I built for the Danger room.. I am so glad I am alive still." she admits.

She just got tossed about like a ragdoll. She will be super cheery later for sure but maybe she is a bit shell shocked and mildly concussed.

She blinks at Donna "Oh.. right.. yeah.. drinks..." she heads into the kitchen and starts to root around in the fridge. She grabs a Hi-Ball energy drink for herself, no calories but lots of caffiene and shit. "What do you guys want... and Donna.. all the meat.. all of it.. on the pizza.. tons.. and enough so when BB gets here I still can gorge myself like a python okay?"

She listens while she grabs the drinks people call out and then brings all three with a set of extras each craddled in her arms. She is still holding her broken bow too. She sets all of it down on the coffee table and picks up the hi-ball once more opening it finally and drinking.

Still hasn't sat.

Kara Danvers has posed:
"I touched down on the bridge of Brainiac's ship first. Most of the rest of the fliers followed quickly after. The Avengers were right behind in their quinjet. Ironman got to work hacking Brainiac.. but he, he had." She gets a rather pained expression on her face. She presses her lips together and a tear falls from her eye.

"It was a long time ago but for me it was still only a year ago that my home world was destroyed. I thought I understand what happened.. but now I think, may be Brainiac had something to do with it. He had one of our cities in a bottle, the missing city of Kandor. The Green Lantern managed to rescue it before the ship went down."

"This has left me with a lot of .. unanswered questions. Brainiac had these giant drones. I cut one in half with my heat vision to save Iron man. We sort of pinballed Brainiac between all of us fast enough, strong enough to beat him down. When he'd lost though, that's when he poisoned the room. I was standing right in front of it.. bam, took the blast real hard."

She accepts the drink from Kate and says, "Thank you. I'm honestly very confused and ... discombobulated right now. I think this is a good place for me to be. It's not ever day you may be came face to face with the creature who possibly destroyed your home."

Donna Troy has posed:
Donna watches Kate carefully for a few moments, then stands and gives her a gentle push towards the sofa. "Kate. Sit down. Try to relax a bit, and enjoy your drink, okay? It's over. We won. It may take some time for the notion to settle into your head that you just helped to save the world, but don't try to rush it, okay?" Her lips curl up into a smile.

"I'll just be a moment," she says, and makes for the stairs up to the dorm hall. Her voice carries back down into the common room. "He had a few really weird drones where we were too. One with lots of arms, one with a big glowing head. Some kind of brute-drone which was hellishly strong, but it couldn't cope with a foot of Amazonian steel through its robot hamstrings."

Her voice grows fainter, but she keeps talking - probably out of earshot of Kate for the moment, but knowing that Kara will still hear her. "That must have been a shock for you, SG. We've downloaded a lot of data from Brainiac's computers, and we'll go over it thoroughly to see if there's any answers in that for you. I'm glad to hear the Lantern managed to rescue your city."

Donna returns to the top of the spiral stairs, grinning. "Kate? This wasn't how I intended to give this to you, but I kind of think now's the time after all." She's holding something long and thin, wrapped in a bundle of paper and cotton sheeting. She descends the staircase with it, and holds it out to Kate.

Kate Bishop has posed:
"This is definitely a safe place.." Kate seems to believe that. She takes another drink of her energy drink and is trying to process everything that Supergirl just talked about. It takes a moment to grok that Donna is talking to her and told her to sit down. "I.. oh.." she looks at the couch. "Okay but if I bleed on it you get to explain it to Vic..." she moves settling down onto the couch now and just sort of sprawls clutching her energy drink as she sits there near Kara. She doesn't hear everything that Donna said as she heads up to the living quarters and all, no super hearing just darn good hearing, unlike Old Man Hawkeye.

Instead she picks up the thread that as far as she is aware Donna left off. "Did anyone have any idea.. I mean.. that is much.... I am sure we will find answers though." she trails off "The ones on the ground looked a lot like the ones from DC.. no really weird super drones like you guys are describing. The big difference is he definitely enhanced the hell out of them... laser eyes still but now they had pyrokinesis.. what is ice-kinesis called.. I saw one causing spikes of earth to shoot up.. another was able to sort of go all transformers on cars and a city bus before it was put down." she shakes her head.

"Thankfully they all just kind of fell dead when the ship hit the Atlantic because the cleanup operation would have been hellish on this one I think..."

When Donna comes back with something wrapped up like that she just blinks up at her and says in the most endearingly confused way. "It isn't my birthday?" but she sets her empty energy drink down and reaches to take it.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara nods her head to Donna as she returns, her vision looking through the wrapping. It's harmless, it's about to be opened anyway and surprises just aren't her thing lately. She lifts an eyebrow and takes in a deep breath, wiping the tear away. "Oh yes I was fighting those on the ground and in the air Kate. They were mean - one tried to freeze me, another uppercut me. One tried to spear me.. nasty things."

"So.. The Hulk is awesome. So kind and friendly and encouraging, supportive. Also.. Ironman, surprisingly caring too. I think, perhaps, they were surprised by the number of us.. non-humans turning up to help defend this planet. Brainiac believes Humanity has destroyed this world already.. but, I see humanity is changing, evolving, this planet is growing not dying. Power Girl was amazing, Captain Danvers was amazing. Heck, everyone was amazing. We should have called ourselves the Amazing Squad."

The wounds are almost completely gone as she slowly rises from the couch and walks over to stand with her back to the window, arms spread out a little as she soaks it up. "I'm sorry to surprise you like that Kate, I know most people assume I'm completely invulnerable, but I have my weaknesses, like everybody."

Donna Troy has posed:
"Cryokinesis, Kate." Donna gives a broad smile. "From the Greek /kruos/, for cold." Of course she'd know that. "Yes, it was what we expected. Brainiac used what he'd learned from the captured mutants to give his drone army an upgrade." She grins wide at the pair of them. "Wasn't enough though, was it?"

"I think they were probably surprised by the human element too, Supergirl. We may be a flawed species, but it's a mistake to judge us by the worst the planet has to offer. Brianiac is not the first extra-terrestrial vistor to make that mistake. There are many of us who will stand up and fight for this planet, powered and otherwise. Titans, Avengers, Justice League, X-Men and many others. It seems that the bolas rounds we came up with helped too - I doubt Brainiac was expecting conventional forces to make any impact on his drones after the battle in DC, but let's not forget that there were police and soldiers out there today doing their bit, fighting drones, and often winning."

Donna sits down next to Kate, with a grin and glint in her eyes. "Sometimes birthdays come early. Today's one of those days. I didn't wrap it properly, you'll just have to settle with the packaging in came in for shipping. You'll find it's got a recurve you won't be used to, it may be heavier than you like and the draw weight is... may need a little tuning down for you. Caitlin has experience with working on these materials, I'm sure she can help you hybridize it into something closer to what you're used to working with."

Kate Bishop has posed:
Kate looks up from the wrapped object and looks at Kara as she moves over to the window and spreads her arms. "We do rock here on earth." a bit of the usual sass and smile there as she watches the other woman recovering. "Also I mean you guys are all really tough but I don't assume anyone is invulnerable. You definitely don't need to be sorry about it. At least we all made it alive and the bad guy is stopped cold right?"

"Did we cities back.. the one from your planet was snagged by the Green Lantern you said but what about Mutant Town and Genosha.. I think it was two cities in Genosha right?" she looks between the other two for confirmation now.

Then well her focus shifts back to the packaging in her lap, she starts to unwrap it while Donna talks. The unwrapping speeds up as she listens too. Holy crap it is one of >those bows< she thinks as she works on revealing what Donna brought her. "Caitlin wants to modify it?" she asks then carefully lifts up one of the Amazonian Bows. From literal Themyscira. She cradles it in her hands and looks it over slowly, turning it and hefting it. "But.. it is beautiful..." she says very softly.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara's hands lower and rest on her hips, casting an iconic shadow across the room. She grins at the bow and says, "I have been calling it the Wonderbow. Well, in my head anyway. It looks amazing." Yeah, keeping secrets from Kara can be difficult sometimes. At least she keeps it to herself. "I am excited to see you using it, you're amazing with the bow already. This is going to be great." She has a bit more pep to her voice again and when she steps away from the window she has more color to her face.

She takes a long breath in and out again. "Thank you. Thank you both for listening and being here. I think I didn't realise how much I might need the Titans, but now that we've faced a truely grotesque peril, I value you all even more than before. I couldn't focus on what was happening in the streets, or other parts of the ship - I was so focused on Brainiac. I gave him every chance to stop what he was doing, but he refused." She shakes her head and folds her arms, "Sometimes violence can't be helped. I wish we could have arrested him instead - but... well, I'm glad he's done."

Donna Troy has posed:
"It's yours now Kate," Donna says with smile and a shrug. "You can hang it on the wall if that's what you want to do with it. But our view is that something being useful does not mean it should not also be beautiful. I recommend you ask Caitlin to rework it for you. She can peel the layers down and rebond it into a shape that better suits you. We compound a combination of woods, horn, bone and sinew. Perhaps replacing the wood with carbon fibre to lighten it and reducing some of the horn to cut he draw weight down will make it better for you, and I'm sure it will still be beautiful. Moreover, it will be truly /yours/. It is always best for a bow to be made for she who carries it."

Donna nods her head to Kara, looking a touch relieved that color has returned to the Kryptonian's cheeks. "Any solution that doesn't involve violence is the best solution, but when such a solution cannot be found - we make sure we're rather good at doing the violence." She breaks into a grin - she just can't help it. Honestly Donna /loves/ a fight, and she just got to do plenty of that.

"Stick with us Supergirl, and you will always have a home here, amongst friends who will give you any support they can. It feels good to be a valued part of something bigger than yourself, doesn't it?"

Donna takes a long swig of her drink, thirsty from the battle, and checks her T-com to see how much time has passed since the pizza order was put in. Only a few minutes. She's hungry and impatient. "Not sure exactly what we've got Kate, we're still inventorying everything we recovered. The X-Men grabbed a bunch of stuff via portal, and I think they may have Mutant Town and Genosha, and possibly part of the equipment we need. But we got everything that wasn't nailed down and a few things that were. It shouldn't take more than a few days before we can restore the cities."

Kate Bishop has posed:
Kate turns it over some more in her hands. She contemplates standing to draw back on it... and thinks better of it for the moment. "Wonderbow. That is great..." she grins at Kara and then looks back down to the bow in her hand there. "I definitely don't want to just hang it up on the wall and not use it. This is something .. she needs to be used." she strokes the finish of the bow feeling it slowly with her fingertips.

She listens to Donna describe what Caitlin should do with the bow and materials. "I know you are right Troia but gods I wince at the thought of cutting or shaving or changing this beauty.. I will do it because.. damn you are right but this is so good." she looks like she may cry but she is made a bit tougher than that so far there. She clears her throat and just clutches the bow quietly while Donna is talking to Kara about arresting Brainiac and nonviolent solutions.

She finally gets it together enough to set the bow down. "I wonder what people are going to do with the cities not from earth... I mean..." she just rails off. Holy shit. A city full of people like Kara and Powergirl and Superman. That could be really good or really devasting if they were not good people. I mean they would be a city full of .. super poeple.

Kate just gets this distant look for a moment as she runs through the tactical and logistical issues that have just potentially cropped up.

"Uh.. so what horn and bone is in this... minotaur?" she is mostly kidding to change that subject as fast as possible.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara nods to Donna and smiles broadly with a small nod, "It really does." Of course, this isn't the only team she's a part of. The DEO stake a strong claim on her time, then of course there's her secret identity and university, then just generally being a symbol of hope for the people, helping where she can. She wonders a little just how much of this she can handle at once. Why can't they all just roll in to one thing.. secret identities can be such a pain sometimes.

"Why didn't we order pickup and send Wally to get the pizza?" She'd offer to fly to get it, but she's not so sure she's up to that yet, not after such a big dose of kryptonite. She was standing right in front of it when it was exposed and that was after having been burned and electrocuted and exhausting herself with heat vision.

A whimsical smile and shrugs, it's what speedsters are good at right? She offers her arm to both Donna and Kate.

At the discussion of non-Earth cities Kara says, "I wish to take Kandor to the fortress of solitude until we understand this technology property. I suppose, it would help to know how big the city might be if restored. If it can be restored, then I will ask Captain Danvers for help finding a world to settle them on. Unlike the cities from Earth, the other cities are now a.. " she gulps, "one of a kind. I must talk to my cousin about it."

Donna Troy has posed:
Donna laughs at Kate's suggestion that it the bow might be constructed from Minotaur. "Don't be silly, Kate. The horn is from a creature called a bonasus, sort of a maned bull. You don't want to know about them, they're disgusting. The bone is from hippogriffs and the sinew from unicorns." Is she kidding? She might not be.

"If Wally's finished clearup in the Bronx in time, he may intercept the pizza on the way here," she says. "But Giorgio's knows us well and is close by, they won't take long to get it here, don't worry. Food soon." She grins and gives Supergirl a quick hug.

"We'll work on the recovered technology and get the Earth cities restored. Then we'll figure out what to do with the others. From the looks of it, Kandor is probably not the only alien city we've recovered. We'll have to identify where they should be, and find a way to restore them all safely - for both them, and our own planet."

Kate Bishop has posed:
"That is a really good point... why didn't we ask Wally to get us all the pizzas he can carry back and forth from the place..." she looks amused reaching to pick the bow up again. Trying to see if she can pick out some of the layering. As she listens to Kara talk about the course of action for the city that was recovered by the Green Lantern. "That seems wise." she finally notes looking up to Kara with a smile.

Then her attention bounced to Troia and she blinks. "Wait what.... " she was following along with Donna until the whole business about hippogriffs and unicorns, the whole maned bull sounded reasonable but the other two. Holy shit what.

She stares eyes narrow at Donna and then notes "Are you shitting me Troia?" which may or may not be an expression that Troia knows.

The whole business about restoring planets is not top of mind right now, neither is pizza she is desperate for.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara returns the hug and smiles warmly. "I think I might have to stay here tonight, if that's okay." Where she goes, who knows? she has another life. May be she lives in the fortress of solitude, but probably not. "You know all those weak spots moved right?," she comments off hand to Donna as she too starts to feel a super need for pizza.

She looks down over her suit and nods her head, "This worked well. I think it looks like I mean business and it held up to heat rays and explosions. I do believe I've gotten the hang of making my suits. Buuuut... I'm going to be happy to be back in my normal colors. This isn't the image I want to project to the world on a day to day basis."

Donna Troy has posed:
"That depended on the design, Supergirl. The rounds we made up to target that weak point on the back of the neck worked out well on the regular models." Donna pulls out her T-Com and starts tapping out a message as she talks. "The upgraded ones... well there were a bunch of different designs. Caitlin and I quickly found they all shared one particular weakness though. Turns out none of them were particularly well equipped to being smashed to pieces with extreme prejudice." She looks up and winks at Kara, and pockets her T-Com again.

"Of course I'm not shitting you Kate," Donna says with a smile. Apparently she is aware of the expression - she has spent a good few years in America now. "The bonasus though? It probably would be. Look it up some time, I did tell you those creatures were disgusting. "

Donna leans back with a knowing smirk. The bonasus is indeed a foul creature, and you don't ever want to stand behind one when it's running away. "Supergirl, you can stay here tonight and any other night you like. There's a room for you here if you want it, and... "

She's interrupted by a ping on her T-Com. "Either that will be a response from Tony Stark telling us we forgot to bring back some vital piece of gear, or..." she studies the message for a moment before smiling wide at the others.

    "The pizzas are here."
